DCLM Daily Manna 27 May, 2018 by Pastor Kumuyi – Little But Precious

Topic: Little But Precious [DCLM Daily Manna Sunday May 27, 2018]

Text: Matthew 18:1-14 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish” (Matthew 18:14).

MESSAGE:

Children are the world’s most valuable resources and its best hope for the future. God places a high premium on them and Jesus emphasised their worth in the courts of God in His earthly ministry. He wants all His followers to accord children the same benevolence. In our passage, Jesus warns us to be mindful of the children not to harm them. We must give up what can deal a blow in the life of children no matter how important the thing may be to us. No doubt, children are like wet cement; whatever falls on them will make an impression. In everything we do to our children, we make deposits in their memory banks. So, the children are like living messages we are sending to a time we will not see.

Although God wants us to be mindful of the way we treat our children, it does not imply that we should over indulge them. However, in correcting them, we raise our words and not our voice. Remember, it is rain that grows flowers, not thunderstorm. We should understand each child’s uniqueness and endowment and carefully nurture him or her accordingly.

Always remember that our children are not things to be moulded, but people to be unfolded. Speak words that build their faith, encourage, soothe their pains, clear their confusion, strengthen their determination and build the love of God and their neighbours in them. We should be living examples to these children, because they are great imitators. So, give them great things to imitate. Love them, no matter what. The kids who need the most love will never ask for it or will ask for it in the most unloving way. We must always be there for them.

Thought For The Day: Our children are the only possessions we can take to heaven, if we train them in the Christlike way.

Open Heavens 27th May 2018 Sunday Daily Devotional – Grace I

Topic: Grace I [Open Heavens 27th May 2018, Sunday]

Memorise: Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. – Proverbs 3:34

Read: Genesis 6:1-8 (KJV)

1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,

2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

4 There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Bible in One Year: 1 Kings 3-4, Jude 1

MESSAGE:

Grace is commonly used in the Bible to describe the demonstration of God’s goodwill towards mankind, embodied in the person of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the effects of that goodwill on human lives. Throughout the Bible, God showed Himself gracious in His dealings with mankind. In the Old Testament, the grace of God is spoken of in relation to three overlapping terms, which are goodness, love and mercy. Each time the word “grace” is used in the Bible, it connotes God’s goodness, love and mercy towards humanity. I pray that God will be gracious to you, and that you will continue to enjoy His grace throughout your life in Jesus’ Name.

God’s grace was responsible for Noah’s appointment into the special assignment that led to his entire family surviving the flood (Genesis 6:8). However, Psalm 145:9 says:

“The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.”

Although the application of God’s grace can be selective like in Noah’s case, it is available to all the works of God. Everything that God created, both living and non-living things, enjoy God’s grace. God upholds those who are falling and lifts up those who are bowed down by His grace. He opens His hands to supply all creatures their food and sustenance, thereby satisfying the desire of every living thing. God by His love and mercy provides for plants and animals alike, ensuring that whatever they need is made available within their reach. After pondering the goodness of the Lord, the Psalmist in psalm 145 declared that God is near to all those who call upon Him, and He meets all their needs by His grace. While speaking on the grace of God in several passages of the Bible, the Holy Spirit demonstrates that this grace is universal in nature. The Holy Spirit speaks about God’s providence in caring for His creatures, His help for the needy, His love and compassion for the oppressed and His concern for the sickly and the weak. All these are demonstrations of God’s grace; anyone who is thoughtful will find abundant evidence of the steadfast love of the Lord demonstrated throughout the whole universe. That is why Psalm 150:6 says,

“Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.”

God, by His grace, has counted us worthy to be chosen from amongst the people of the world as His on special people, redeemed by the precious Blood of His Son, thereby making us His own special possession (1 Peter 2:9). Obviously, God has not treated us according to what our evil deeds deserve. Our continued existence testifies to His redeeming grace, and this same grace provides a basis for our status as children of the Most High God. Let somebody shout halleluyah!

Prayer Point: Father, please do not let Your grace go to waste in my life in Jesus’ Name.

Hymn 13: Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise.

1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible, hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.

3. To all, life Thou givest, to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish—but naught changeth Thee.

4. Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render; oh, help us to see
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.

5. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible, hid from our eyes,
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

Questions Surround Fate of 10 Orphaned Children After Deaths of Pastors in Cuba Plane Crash

As Cuba and its Christian community continue to process the shock of the plane crash near La Haban last Friday, where 111 people lost their lives, one of the main priorities for the Church is determining what happens to the children who’ve been orphaned by the tragedy.

Pastor Bill Devlin of Infinity Bible Church in New York, who is also the president of REDEEM and co-chair of Right to Worship NYC, told The Christian Post in a phone interview from Cuba on Wednesday that 10 children have lost both their parents from the Church of the Nazarene.

Devlin, who said he flew to Cuba to “represent the American church” and show the Church of the Nazarene that it’s not forgotten, told CP that the children are all between the ages of 8 and 17.

He noted that there are “daily meetings and discussions” going on about them, with the church looking to figure out “what families are going to take care of them,” whether it be other pastors, or family members.

He explained that the 10 couples from the church, who died when the Boeing passenger jet crashed shortly after takeoff from Havana on its way to Holguin, were attending a general conference on marriage in the capital.

Devlin noted that the church ordains both women and men as pastors, and in many cases, for instance, where the husband served as pastor, the wife would have a role as a secretary or treasurer, and vice versa.

The Church of the Nazarene released the names of the 10 couples who died on Cubana Flight 972, which included Cuba East District’s Nazarene Missions International president, secretary, and treasurer.

Famed Ivan the Terrible Painting Vandalized at Moscow Gallery

Police in Russia have arrested a man on charges of vandalizing a famous painting by renowned Russian artist Ilya Repin in Moscow.

Russian news reports said the man claimed he drank 100 grams (about 3.5 ounces) of vodka in the cafe of the Tretyakov Gallery shortly before he allegedly attacked the painting with a metal stanchion on Friday night.

The painting — titled “Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan on November 16, 1581,” depicts Russia’s first czar cradling his dying son after striking him in a fit of rage. Media reports say the suspect said he damaged the painting because he thinks it is historically inaccurate.

Russian media say Repin’s 1885 canvas received several holes, but the faces of the czar and his son were undamaged.

5 Dead, 30 Missing After Powerful Cyclone Strikes Oman & Yemen

A cyclone more powerful than any previously recorded in southern Oman slammed into the Gulf country and neighboring Yemen on Saturday, deluging a major city with nearly three years’ worth of rainfall in single day. The storm killed at least five people while more than 30 remain missing, officials said.

Cyclone Mekunu caused flash flooding that tore away whole roadways and submerged others in Salalah, Oman’s third-largest city, stranding drivers. Strong winds knocked over street lights and tore away roofing.

Rushing waters from the rain and storm surges flooded typically dry creek beds. The holiday destination’s now-empty tourist beaches were littered with debris and foam from the churning Arabian Sea.

Three people, including a 12-year-old girl, died in Oman, and another two bodies were recovered from the Yemeni island of Socotra. More than 30 people were still missing in Socotra, including Yemeni, Indian and Sudanese nationals.

Yemeni officials also reported damage in the country’s far east, along the border with Oman. Rageh Bakrit, the governor of al-Mahra province, said on his official Twitter account late Friday that strong winds had blown down houses and taken out communication lines and water services. He said there were no fatalities in the province.

India’s Meteorological Department said the storm packed maximum sustained winds of 170-180 kilometers (105-111 miles) per hour with gusts of up to 200 kph (124 mph). It called the cyclone “extremely severe.”

Portions of Salalah, home to some 200,000 people, lost power as the cyclone made landfall.

Branches and…

North and South Korean Leaders Hold Surprise 2nd Summit

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in met for the second time in a month on Saturday, holding a surprise summit at a border truce village to discuss Kim’s potential meeting with President Donald Trump, Moon’s office said.

Kim and Moon met hours after South Korea expressed relief over revived talks for a summit between Trump and Kim following a whirlwind 24 hours that saw Trump cancel the highly anticipated meeting before saying it’s potentially back on.

The quickly arranged meeting seemed to demonstrate Kim’s urgency to secure a summit with Trump, which may provide his best shot at saving his economy from crushing sanctions and win security assurances in a region surrounded by enemies, analysts say.

It remains unclear whether Kim would ever agree to fully abandon his nuclear arsenal in return. Moon has insisted Kim can be persuaded to abandon his nuclear facilities, materials and bombs in a verifiable and irreversible way in exchange for credible security and economic guarantees.

Moon, who brokered the summit between Washington and Pyongyang, likely used Saturday’s meeting to confirm Kim’s willingness to enter nuclear negotiations with Trump and clarify what steps Kim has in mind in the process of denuclearization, said Hong Min, a senior analyst at Seoul’s Korea Institute for National Unification.

North and South Korean leaders meet again

“While Washington and Pyongyang have expressed their hopes for a summit through published statements, Moon has to step up as the mediator because the surest way to set the meeting in stone would…

Utah Man Held Hostage in Venezuela Released

A Utah man jailed in Venezuela on weapons charges nearly two years ago was released Saturday after a U.S. senator pressed for his freedom in a surprise meeting with President Nicolas Maduro.

“We are grateful to all who participated in this miracle,” Joshua Holt’s family said in a statement.

President Donald Trump said Holt and his family were expected at the White House on Saturday evening.

“Good news about the release of the American hostage from Venezuela. … The great people of Utah will be very happy!” Trump said in a tweet.

The 26-year-old Holt traveled to Venezuela in June 2016 to marry a woman he met online while he was looking for Spanish-speaking Mormons to improve his Spanish.

His release came after Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with Maduro on Friday — the outcome of months of secret, backchannel talks about Holt between one of the senator’s aides and close allies of the Venezuelan president.

Holt’s release looked unlikely a week ago, when he appeared in a clandestinely shot video railing against the Maduro government and saying his life was threatened in a prison riot. In retaliation, socialist party boss Diosdado Cabello, a powerful ally of Maduro, said on state television that Holt was the CIA’s top spy in Latin America.

It’s not clear if Holt’s release portends a thawing of relations between the two normally hostile governments. The Trump administration has threatened crippling oil sanctions on Venezuela for Maduro’s decision to go forward with presidential elections last week…

Ireland Votes to Repeal Abortion Ban

Abortion rights activists proclaimed victory for Irish women Saturday as referendum results indicated voters in largely Roman Catholic Ireland overwhelmingly backed repealing a 1983 constitutional ban on abortions.

Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, speaking Saturday after exit polls suggested voters chose to liberalize Ireland’s strict abortion laws by a margin of more than two to one, called the result the culmination of a “quiet revolution.”

“The people have spoken,” said Varadkar, a medical doctor who campaigned for repeal in Friday’s historic referendum. “The people have said that we want a modern constitution for a modern country, that we trust women and we respect them to make the right decision and the right choices about their health care.”

Varadkar said the large margin of victory will give his government a greater mandate when drafting abortion legislation that will be submitted for parliamentary approval in a matter of months.

Voters were asked whether they wanted to keep or repeal the Eighth Amendment to Ireland’s Constitution, which requires authorities to treat a fetus and its mother as equals under the law. It outlawed all abortions until 2014, when the procedure started being allowed in rare cases when a woman’s life was in danger.

Campaigners who have fought for more than three decades to remove the Eighth Amendment abortion ban from Ireland’s Constitution hailed the referendum vote as a major breakthrough for the largely Catholic nation.

“This is a monumental day for women in Ireland,” said Orla O’Connor, co-director of the Together for Yes…

Questions Surround Fate of 10 Orphaned Children After Deaths of Pastors

China orders crackdown on religious statues

The directive from the United Front Work Department mainly targets followers of Buddhism and Taoism, two of China’s five officially recognised religions.

“The meeting required all localities to take up the regulation of large outdoor religious statues as their top priority in preventing the further commercialisation of Buddhism and Toaism,” the directive said.

Thousands of Buddhist and Taoist temples and shrines, along with mosques and churches, were damaged or destroyed under communism, especially during the violent 1966-76 Cultural Revolution.

Although many have been restored and reopened since then, new regulations and a bureaucratic overhaul earlier this year have put the day-to-day running of religious affairs directly under the officially atheistic party.

That has been accompanied by a renewed campaign promoting atheism and loyalty to the party, along with a push to study the works of one of communism’s founding fathers, Karl Marx, who famously wrote that religion “is the opium of the people”.

The anti-religion drive overlaps with campaigns to promote patriotism and party loyalty, oppose separatism among ethnic minorities and fight Western liberal values.
