Iraqi Forces Capture 5 Top ISIS Leaders in Cross-Border Raid

Iraqi forces in coordination with U.S.-backed Syrian forces have captured five senior Islamic State group leaders, the U.S.-led coalition said Thursday in a statement.

The arrest was a “significant blow to Daesh,” coalition spokesman Army Col. Ryan Dillon said, using the Arabic acronym for the extremist group.

A Pentagon spokesman, Marine Maj. Adrian J.T. Rankine-Galloway, said the U.S. credited Iraqi security forces with the militants’ capture “on the Iraq-Syria border.”

“These arrests are a significant blow to ISIS as we continue to remove its leadership and fighters from the battlefield,” Rankine-Galloway said.

IS fighters no longer control significant pockets of territory inside Iraq, but do maintain a grip inside Syria along Iraq’s border.

The U.S. -led coalition supported Iraqi ground forces and Syrian fighters known as the Syrian Democratic Forces in the more than three-year war against IS.

After Iraqi forces retook the Iraqi city of Mosul from IS last summer, Syrian forces on the other side of the border claimed a series of swift victories, but the campaign was stalled recently when Turkey launched a cross-border raid into Syria’s north.

Earlier this month the coalition announced a drive to clear the final pockets of IS territory inside Syria.

U.S. President Donald Trump tweeted about the anti-IS raid Thursday, saying those arrested were the “five most wanted” IS “leaders.” It was unclear what criteria, if any, Trump was using to describe the IS operatives as the “five most wanted.”

A U.S. national security official said there were no…

Tim Farron pulls out of Christian Northern Men’s Convention, citing concerns over publicity material

The Christian politician, who resigned as Liberal Democrat leader last year following controversy over his views on sexuality, also said he was “saddened” by publicity circulated by the Northern Men’s Convention.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “I agreed many months ago to attend a church-organised event but just today I’ve seen promotional material for it which contains things I’m deeply concerned and saddened by.

“As a result, I have withdrawn from the event.”

The Westmorland and Lonsdale MP was due to appear alongside Christian speaker Rupert Bentley-Taylor during the event at Holy Trinity Platt Church on Saturday.

In the welcome section of the conference’s website, organisers warn that “assaults on orthodox Christian teaching, and morality, especially in the area of sexuality, seem to have increased at an alarming rate”.

They continue: “The leadership from those in authority in the denominations who should be the guardians of Biblical truth has been muted to say the least and even in Bible-teaching churches many appear to be wavering under the onslaught of the gay lobby.”

Suggesting that Christians are being increasingly marginalised, they also said believers “fear… standing up and speaking out” about their faith.

Hamas Leader in Gaza Gives Support for Protesters to Breach Israel Fence

A senior Hamas official signalled support Thursday for thousands of Palestinians to breach the border fence from Gaza into Israel at protests to coincide with next week’s US embassy move to Jerusalem.

In his first major briefing to international media since becoming Gaza head of the Islamist group in 2017, Yahya Sinwar implied he would like to see thousands of Palestinians crossing into Israel as part of more than a month of protests.

Asked what he wanted to see from protests on Monday and Tuesday, Sinwar pointed out Israel has never specifically defined its borders.

“What’s the problem with hundreds of thousands breaking through a fence that is not a border?”

Sinwar said he hoped Israel would not shoot at what he called “peaceful” protests.

Fifty-two Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire since protests and clashes began on March 30 calling for Palestinian refugees to be able to return to their former homes in what is now Israel.

The majority of those killed were shot during protests and clashes near the border.

No Israelis have been hurt, though protesters have thrown stones and rolled burning tyres towards soldiers along the border.

Israel says there have also been infiltration attempts.

Sinwar said the lack of Israelis hurt was evidence the protests were peaceful.

But he warned the protests risked spiralling out of control, blaming Israel for imposing a blockade on the strip and its two million residents since Hamas took control in 2007.

Israel says the restrictions are necessary to restrict Hamas, with whom it has fought three wars since 2008.

You are the Builder of Your Home (Part 1) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: You are the Builder of Your Home (1)

Dear Reader,

Greetings in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ. By the special grace of God, all through this month, I shall be discussing on You are the Builder of your Home. This week, I shall be discussing one of such vital keys, which is wisdom.

Wisdom:

Wisdom is hearing the sayings of our Lord Jesus Christ and doing them. It is the correct application of knowledge. It demands that you take correct steps in line with all you will learn from God this month concerning your home. Only then, can you begin to reap the fruits of a sweet and a successful home. The Bible says: Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock (Matthew 7:24). The place of wisdom in building a successful home cannot be overemphasized. The Word of God says: Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding (Proverbs 4:7).

Wisdom is the principal thing on which all other things rest. A home is meant to be built for it to be successful. The Bible says: Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established (Proverbs 24:3). Therefore, to build a successful home, wisdom is required. A wise man said, “Courtship brings out the best, marriage brings out the rest.” That is why you need the God-given wisdom to know your spouse, adapt to him or her, and bring out the best that God has designed for your home.

Accept your responsibilities: You are the builder of your home. Stop wishing! Work on making your home a success and you will reap the fruits of your labour! Expectation is the mother of manifestation. What do you expect your home to be? Success or failure, stressful or stress-free, full of troubles or peace? Then, get down to work.

If you expect success in your home, then apply the wisdom of God. Be a doer of the Word! Do whatever He tells you to do. This is wisdom. When you do your part, God is committed to making your home a success. He can never fail. The Bible instructs all husbands to dwell with their wives according to knowledge (1 Peter 3:7). Understand her nature. When a man understands the nature of his wife and works according to that understanding, problems are less likely to arise in that home. Realise that she is a wife, mother, and homemaker all at once, and these place demands on her. Be considerate towards her and be available to minister to her needs. Don’t wait for her to play her part first. Live by example. Wives are not to be treated as slaves or inferior human beings, rather they should be held in respect. This is the wisdom of God! Men who beat their wives exhibit folly and sin against God.

God has placed the building of the house into your hands. The Bible says: Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands (Proverbs 14:1). Don’t operate in foolishness. Don’t pluck down your home, operate in the wisdom of God. Abide with God’s instructions. They are not grievous. Even if you happen to be married to a man whose level of understanding is lower than yours; remember Abigail. Through her wisdom and understanding, she saved her home even though she had a foolish husband.

Identify your husband’s weaknesses and help him to work on them. Learn to appreciate his good points, point out his mistakes in a kind and loving manner. This is God’s wisdom. Embrace it! If you abide by God’s instruction, it will make your home precious before God and before men. Here is the testimony of a sister who wisely applied God’s Word as she was taught and obtained a positive result.

As husband and wife, you are the builders of your home. Marriage can be likened to a physical house. Houses in the physical don’t just happen, they are consciously built. You don’t just wake up one day and see a physical house grow up somewhere. It takes conscious effort and input to make it happen. In the same manner, and even much more, a good marriage doesn’t just happen, it is consciously made to happen. The Word of God says, Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established (Proverbs 24:3).

You have the duty to build it the way you want it to be. Stop shifting your responsibilities to God! As my husband would always say, “Any faith that makes God absolutely responsible for the happenings of your life is an irresponsible faith”. The act of building is your responsibility. You must fulfill your own part for God to fulfill His own.

Look at this sister’s testimony:

“My husband did not attend any programme throughout the Breakthrough Seminar. I did not know what was wrong, but I put it in prayers. When the Bishop asked us to write a list of what we don’t want again, I said my husband must come back and give his life fully to Christ. He used to attend services before, but all of a sudden, he stopped participating in the prayer we hold at home.

I knew I am more than conquerors. I said, ‘You this devil, you must get out of this home, there is no room for you here’. I believed God to grant all my desire. The following Sunday my husband came to church; and since then, he’s the one that wakes us all up for prayers!

-Okorie, T.

I see God giving you your own testimony!

You need wisdom to build your home and God is the source of that wisdom. If, peradventure, you are not born again and you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, then say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through [email protected], 07026385437 OR 08141320204.

Our Daily Bread (ODB) Devotional 11 May 2018 – Persevering with Peace

Topic: Persevering with Peace [Our Daily Bread 11 Friday May, 2018]

Read: Psalm 3, Bible in a Year: 2 Kings 13–14; John 2

I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. Psalm 3:5

As I continue trusting God through my struggles with chronic pain, even the simplest setback can feel like a fierce enemy attacker. Problem One jabs me from the right. Problem Two shoves me from behind. Problem Three punches me square in the nose. During these times, when my strength wanes and immediate relief evades me, running and hiding can seem like a good idea. But since I can’t escape my pain, change my circumstances, or ignore my emotions, I’m learning slowly to rely on God to carry me through.

When I need encouragement, comfort, and courage, I prayerfully read through the songs of the psalmists, who honestly bring their situations to God. In one of my favorite psalms, King David flees from Absalom, his son who wanted to kill him and take his kingdom. Though David lamented his painful situation (Psalm 3:1–2), he trusted God’s protection and expected Him to answer his prayers (vv. 3–4). The king didn’t lose sleep worrying or fearing what could happen, because he trusted God to sustain and save him (vv. 5–8).

Physical and emotional pain can often feel like aggressive adversaries. We may be tempted to give up or wish we could escape when we’re weary and can’t see the end of our current battle. But, like David, we can learn to trust that God will hold us up and help us rest in His constant and loving presence.

Prayer: Lord, thanks for giving us rest in the peace of Your constant presence and assuring us of the victory You’ve already won.

God offers us peace as He holds us up and carries us through every trial.

Insight:

In addition to the Psalms, the New Testament has a lot to say about perseverance through trials. The book of Acts tells the account of the apostle Peter who was preparing to stand trial after being unjustly imprisoned by King Herod for eight days. Undoubtedly he would be executed. But Peter didn’t lose any sleep over his impending death. In fact “the night before Peter was to be placed on trial, he was asleep” (Acts 12:6 nlt). Peter experienced peace—peace that can come only through trusting God—because the church was earnestly praying for him (vv. 5, 12).

The apostle Paul wrote about tranquility in his letter to the Philippians: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6–7).

When we can’t sleep because we’re troubled by the trials of life, instead of counting sheep we can talk to our Good Shepherd. Jesus promised, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you” (John 14:27).

What worries keep you awake at night? Ask God to help you find the peace you need. K. T. Sim

Kenneth & Gloria Copeland Devotional 11 May 2018 – Never Fall

Topic: Never Fall [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Friday May 11, 2018]

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed. – 2 Timothy 2:15

A lot of people have been playing games when it comes to the Word. They claim to be faith people in public. But, in private, they never open the Bible at all. Then, when a time of trouble comes and they try to stand on the Word, they fall flat on their spiritual faces.

Well, the time for playing games is over. It’s time for us to realize that real faith involves action. James 2:20 says faith without works [or corresponding action] is dead.

If you want the kind of faith that will keep you on your feet when others are falling around you, you need to take some action where the Word is concerned.

First, you need to study. You can study the Word in many ways. Not only can you read it, you can dig deeply into it with concordances, Greek/Hebrew dictionaries and other study guides. What’s more, if you have a media player, you can walk around half the day listening to teaching. It’s only one way of study, but it is a powerful one.

The second thing you need to do is go where the Word is being preached. When Romans 10:17 says “faith cometh by hearing,” it’s talking about the preached Word.

Whenever I start feeling surrounded by problems and I’m having trouble hearing from God, I drop everything and find some place where I can hear the Word preached. I’ve received more answers from God that way than I can count. Even though the preacher may not have been preaching about anything even remotely connected with the issue I was struggling with, some word of Scripture would suddenly start my thoughts in a certain direction. Then I’d realize, That’s the answer to that problem I’ve been dealing with for the past six weeks!

Third, you need to start confessing the Word you’ve heard. Find the promise of God that covers your situation and then declare it out loud as if it had already come to pass in your life.

Get serious about the Word of God. Study it. Go hear it preached. Confess it. Become such a diligent workman that the devil himself will look at you with fear and say, “There’s one believer who’s not playing games anymore.”

TREM Devotional 11 May 2018 by Dr. Mike Okonkwo – The Portrait Of A Builder

Topic: The Portrait Of A Builder [TREM Devotional Friday May 11, 2018]

“For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost and of faith: and much people was added unto the Lord.” Acts 11:24

I was told recently about a leader who was sent on relief duty when the incumbent went on vacation. He got there and disorganized everything. The incumbent resumed and started crying because his labour over the years had been destroyed within a space of three weeks. Such a person who was sent on a relief assignment is not a builder. You must be careful in assigning someone to a leadership role in any organisation, particularly the church.

The kingdom of God is not about sentiments. When it comes to the kingdom of God, you cannot afford to be partial in judgement. As a leader, you must learn to stand for the truth. If you cannot stand for something, then you will fall for anything and that is not leadership. A leader must be one who is firmly rooted in what he believes.

It is very important but many people do not understand this, particularly in the church. When it comes to kingdom agenda, put sentiments and emotions out of the way. This does not mean you should be nasty. As a leader, you must learn to correct in love. Understand that Jesus paid the supreme price for the church, so you must not allow God’s work to be destroyed because of sentiments.

The Head Pastor is not going to be in the ushering or music department, there should be trusted hands there that can be trusted. In the book of Acts, the apostles looked for who to send. Guess who they sent. A builder of family name; Barnabas. In other words, they were saying to Barnabas: “Barnabas we can trust you.” Can you be trusted with a divine assignment?

If an assignment is committed to your hands and you don’t leave it better than you met it, you are a failure. When it comes to the things of God, it should be from glory to glory.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 11 May 2018 Devotional — Step Out and Find Out

Topic: Step Out and Find Out [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Friday May 11, 2018]

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion]. — Proverbs 27:17

The only way we ever fulfill God’s plan for our lives and live life to the fullest is to take many, many steps of faith. Stepping into the unknown can leave us feeling a bit frightened and insecure. Because of these fearful feelings, many people never step out, therefore, they never find out what they are capable of.

Prompt obedience to the will of God is vital for the growth of God’s kingdom as well as for us personally. We must learn to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Many people miss the will of God for their lives because they “would rather be safe than sorry.” Had I tried to be safe, I never would have sown the seeds of obedience that have produced good fruit for God’s kingdom and my own personal life.

We need to be discerning and led by the Spirit, not by our own thoughts or emotions or by other people’s advice. When we decide to step out, we should do all we can to make sure we are obeying God’s voice and responding in faith to Him.

When Dave and I step out to do something we believe God is leading us to do, we do so little by little, watching to see how God responds. If He blesses our actions, then we know that we are in His will and we take another step. Don’t be afraid to “step out,” because it is the only way you will “find out” what God wants you to do.

Prayer Starter: Father, help me to boldly step out and do what You have put in my heart to do…even when I feel afraid. I know You are always with me to guide, protect, and even redirect if need be. Help me to always put my trust in You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Saudi Tests Siren After Yemen Rebels Fire New Missiles

Saudi Arabia said Thursday it tested a new siren system for the capital Riyadh and oil-rich Eastern Province, the day after Yemeni rebels fired three ballistic missiles at the kingdom.

The Saudi civil defence posted a video on its official site of the alarm system being tested.

It said in a statement the system was designed to “face risks of all kinds” and alert the population “in case of emergency”.

Yemen’s Iran-allied Huthi rebels have in recent months ramped up missile attacks against neighbouring Saudi Arabia, which leads a military coalition against them.

The Shiite insurgents announced they had fired two ballistic missiles at Riyadh and a third at the southern city of Jizan near the border, on Wednesday alone.

A spokesman for the Saudi-led coalition said the kingdom’s air defences intercepted all three, in statements carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency.

MFM Mountain Top Life Daily Devotional Friday, 11 May 2018 – You Are Dead

TOPIC: You Are Dead (Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries Friday, 11 May 2018)

FIRE SCRIPTURE: Romans 6:1-15

MEMORY VERSE:

“For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.” – Colossians 3:3

The MESSAGE:

When people hear the word “death”, they get startled because it is a very scary topic. But the type of death we are going to discuss today is good; it is not physical death. Our Lord Jesus said that before a seed could yield fruit it would have to enter into the ground and die first.

Many Christians are struggling with sin because they don’t realise that they are already dead to sin. The Bible says in Romans 6:2, “God forbid. How shall we, that are dead in sin, live any longer therein?” Once we realise this fact, a light bulb effect is triggered immediately in our consciousness and the nature of the old man is gone completely. So when the devil comes next time to tempt you with besetting sin, you usually fall for, be it addictions, drugs, casual sins etc, remind him that you are dead and that he attended your funeral service the day you were baptised (Romans 6:3). Therefore, you cannot respond to your old nature but instead arise to the newness of life in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:4).

When you resist the devil, he will flee from you (James 4:7). When the devil keeps on coming at you, trying to seduce you to commit one sin or the other, resist him and he will flee from you. The fact remains that you are not just dead but you are also buried through baptism. Therefore yield yourselves unto God as those who are alive from the dead and your members as instrument of righteousness unto God and it shall be well with your soul.

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
A DEAD MAN CANNOT BREATHE, HE CANNOT WALK AND CANNOT TALK. WHEN WE DIE TO SIN THE SAME THING HAPPENS; WE CAN NO LONGER LIVE A LIFE OF SIN.

PROPHETIC WORD:
Today, sin shall no longer have dominion over you. Every contrary spirit struggling to cage your soul is judged.

PRAYER POINTS:

MORNING
1. I confess that I am dead and my life is hid in Christ and Christ Jesus in God, in the name of Jesus.
2. Every unyielding area of my life, become dead and buried in Christ Jesus, in the name of Jesus.
3. As from today, sin shall not reign in my mortal body because I am dead and buried in Christ Jesus, in the name of Jesus.

EVENING
4. Holy Spirit of God, empower me to bear fruits of righteousness unto God, in the name of Jesus.
5. I resist the devil in every area of my life, in the name of Jesus.
6. Let the liberty of the Spirit in Christ Jesus overshadow my life, in the name of Jesus.
