A husband and wife visited an orphanage where they hoped to adopt a child. In an interview with the boy they wanted, they told him in glowing terms about the many things they could give him. To their amazement the little fellow said, “If you have nothing to offer except a good home, clothes, toys, and the other things that most kids have—why, I would just as soon stay here.” “What on earth could you want besides those things?” the woman asked. “I just want someone to love me,” replied the little boy. There you have it! Even a little boy knows that “man shall not live by bread alone.” Our deeper yearnings and longings can be met only by a renewed fellowship with the One in whose image we were created, God.

Topic: Take Time to Listen [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Saturday May 5, 2018]

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. – James 1:5

When you’re facing a problem, the very first thing you should ask God for is wisdom. Not money. Not power. Not even healing. But wisdom.

God’s wisdom is the key that will unlock every door in your life. It will turn your every failure into success. So, stop wasting your prayer power begging God for things you think you need and spend some time instead listening to what He has to say about your situation.

If you’ve never tried that before, practically speaking, here’s what you need to do:

First: Lay out the entire problem before the Lord, not because He doesn’t know what you’re going through, but because laying it out helps you. It helps you see things from a more objective point of view.

I remember when I used to take my problems to my father, A.W. Copeland. Somehow, when I was explaining them to him, they began to look different to me. I’d get a new perspective, and as I talked, he’d point out areas I hadn’t considered yet. Explaining your problems to God, point by point, will help you accomplish the same thing.

Second: Listen for the Spirit of God to advise you. Pay particular attention to what He says through the written Word. Most likely, the care of your problem has choked the Word of God right out of your heart (Mark 4:18-19). If so, you need to get the Bible and begin to put that Word back in again. Then the Holy Spirit will begin to speak to you through it.

As you’re listening, be sure to remain teachable. Be ready to accept rebuke if necessary. Be very honest with God. Look for ways in which you’ve been wrong and confess them to Him. It’s all right. Those sins won’t come as any surprise to Him. He already knows about them. Confession just gives you the opportunity to get rid of them.

Third: Act on the wisdom God gives you. Let go of your own methods and put His methods into operation. Be obedient. If you don’t, that glorious wisdom won’t do you any good at all.

As you pray today, set aside your own ideas and start seeking the wisdom of God. It’s the only thing that can permanently solve the problems you’ve been facing. It’s truly the most precious gift God has to give.

Seek wisdom.

Topic: Treat Everyone With Courtesy [TREM Devotional Saturday May 5, 2018]

“Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out.” Colossians 4:6 MSG

One of the statements we make during our confession is: “I treat everyone that comes in contact with me with courtesy, I let the light of God shine through me because I am an extension of God to my world.” The question is, how many of us truly act on these words? How do you treat people at work, at school, at the stores, even in the church and at home? Are you someone who speaks to people nicely, or are you someone that’s very rude, who gets upset at every little thing. Now don’t misunderstand me, there will be occasions for you to be upset, but the Bible tells us that in your anger, do not sin. We must understand that we are the only Bible some people will ever read, and so we must ensure that our actions are in line with the scriptures. We must learn to live by the popular acronym WWJD (what would Jesus do?).

Our text clearly states how God expects us to relate to people as believers. The word “gracious” there means kind, pleasant, courteous, polite. God expects these when people describe how we relate to them, these would be the adjectives used. This is because the goal is not to bring down anyone, but rather to lift them up. People should leave better after you have met with them. Even when you are correcting, correct in love, always have the goal in mind.

Child of God these are the things that set us apart as believers, if not, we are just the same as everyone else. Refrain from using abusive words, in fact, they should not be found in your vocabulary. If you find yourself in a high tempered situation where no good words come to mind, take a walk, just a little moment to breathe and cool off. 1Peter 2:17 tells us to “Honour all men…” It cuts across everyone, no exceptions. This is what it means to be the light of the world and the salt of the earth.

Thought For The Day: Correct character can be corrupted by bad association.

Environment is a major determinant of the growth of every living thing, be it plant or animal, man or beast. The right environment, therefore, is a prerequisite for a favourable outcome of life.

God has made it clear to us in His Word that a person’s environment affects his attainment in life; the world we live in affects the life that we live (1 Corinthians 15:33). This means, the input you receive into your life from your environment affects the output of your life.

One major aspect of your environment is the people you associate with, the friends you keep, the people you give your ears to. You know, what your eyes see affect how far you can go in life.

Some time ago, I heard a story of a goat that grew among dogs. Suddenly, this goat began to behave like dogs. The goat would run out to welcome its owner wagging its tail exactly the way dogs do because it grew up in the midst of dogs. The goat also began to eat faeces like dogs. What happened? The environment it lived in corrupted its destiny.

Beloved, the lesson from this is; association affects behaviour. Disconnect from friends who hinder you from fulfilling your destiny. Your environment affects your attainment.

My counsel is, change your environment or association now if it is a hindrance to your destiny.

Remember this: Correct character can be corrupted by bad association.

1. Disconnect from every association, environment or job that will limit your destiny.
2. Company with the right association for destiny fulfilment.

Prayer: O Lord, I ask for the grace to disconnect from any wrong association, environment or job that can limit my destiny. Connect me to the right association and environment for destiny fulfilment, Lord in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Sin Betrays [DCLM Daily Manna Saturday May 5, 2018]

Text: Genesis 42:21-38 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us” (Genesis 42:21).

MESSAGE:

The little boy who helped himself with the ice cream not meant for him wiped his mouth clean and even rinsed it with water. He did all these so that no one will know he is the culprit. But when called to defend himself, he was sure his interrogators would be floored. Alas, a stain of ice-cream drop betrayed him. When he was confronted with the stain, he became speechless. His sin found him out.

Joseph’s brethren had lived with the guilt of the sale of their brother, over the years, thinking they would never see him again. After purchasing some grains, Joseph directed that their money be put into their sacks as a benevolent gesture. This was misunderstood by his brothers who interpreted it as God’s judgment. And right in the presence of Joseph, they started to blame one another. “We are guilty concerning our brother… behold, also his blood is required”. While the blame-game was on, Joseph pleasantly listened, having spoken to them through an interpreter. They never knew he understood them.

Sin not confessed and repented of is a reproach and a destructive cankerworm. Sinners may hide it for as long as they wish, yet the sin will definitely find the person out (Numbers 32:23). The earlier sin is acknowledged, confessed and repented of, the better and safer. No one can hide sin forever no matter the effort to silence the conscience. Sin easily unmasks its perpetrator. There is no hiding place for sinners who are impenitent. All committed sins are open scandals before God. Ensure you make your way right with God today by repenting of your sins.

Thought For The Day: Sin and its consequences are never minimised by the passage of time.

1 In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the seed of the Medes, which was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans;

2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.

3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:

4 And I prayed unto the LORD my God, and made my confession, and said, O Lord, the great and dreadful God, keeping the covenant and mercy to them that love him, and to them that keep his commandments;

MESSAGE:

In yesterday’s devotional, we considered the signs through which the need for revival can be identified. Today, we will be reflecting on how to experience revival. In today’s memory verse, the benevolent God clearly spells out the actions that are required to bring down revival from heaven. We must first acknowledge God’s love and His willingness to ignite the fire of revival conveyed through this verse of Scripture. The expression “my people, who are called by my name” was beautifully used by God to reveal His faithfulness and determination to identify with His children in all circumstances. Even though He hates sin, He loves His people so much that He cannot deny them, even in their fallen and backslidden state. Because He paid the ultimate price of shedding His precious blood to purchase and redeem us from destruction, He will always stand by us, whatever it takes. All He requires of us when we err is repentance and a commitment to live holy. He is always willing to ignite His fresh fire in our hearts. What a loving Father we have!

God’s willingness to ignite the fire of revival as soon as we fulfill the necessary conditions is a wonderful blessing to His children. This makes bringing down revival easy. To complete the process of obtaining revival, those who have been chosen to be God’s people must cease from living a life of sin, turn away from their desires in life to his word. Only then will He grant revival from heaven. The specific phrases and words used in 2 Chronicles 7:14, such as “humble themselves”, “pray”, “seek His face”, “turn from their wicked ways”, all clearly describe the different aspects of heartfelt repentance and prayer required to bring down revival. The Lord said He would send revival (healing their land) only after the two steps of repentance and prayers have been observed. This healing includes physical and spiritual healing, deliverance from drought and pestilence, as well as the return of captives and exiles to their rightful place of rest. Note that revival is not complete without the restoration of God’s people to their true place of fellowship and relationship with God. You can bring down revival when you engage in prayers of penitence as Daniel did in Daniel 9:4-6. Revival comes when instead of blaming God for your errors, you admit your mistakes and wrongdoings, and express a willingness to change (Daniel 9:7-8, James 1:13-15). Revival will only come when we persist in the place of prayer, asking God for mercy. He will always honor His word and send His revival.

Prayer Point: Heavenly Father, please turn the hearts of Your children who are asleep or backslidden to genuinely seek your face for revival in Jesus’ Name.
