Trump raises Christian persecution in Nigeria with its president

In their private meeting and in front of the press yesterday, Trump briefly raised the issue of the captured school girls in Nigeria and the killings of Christians in the country.

In a press conference in the sunny rose garden outside the White House, President Donald Trump said in front of President Muhammadu Buhari: “We are deeply concerned by religious violence in Nigeria including the burning of churches and the killing and persecution of Christians.

“It’s a horrible story and we encourage Nigeria and the Federal State of local leaders to do everything in their power to immediately secure the affected communities and to protect the innocent civilians of all faiths – including Muslims and including Christians.”

There has been violence between Christians and Muslim Fulani herdsmen for years, especially in Benue State in Nigeria. Last week, several Christians were attacked during mass at St Ignatius’ Church and two priests were killed.

You can hear the interview with Father Moses Iorapu from Benue state about the murders in his diocese here:

In a meeting earlier in the day, President Trump and President Buhari spoke about terrorism and trade and the US President added: “Also, we’ve had very serious problems with Christians who have been murdered, killed in Nigeria.

We’re going to be working on that problem, and working on that problem very, very hard, because we…

Discovery of Ancient Israelite City Supports Biblical Account of King David

Discovery of Ancient Israelite City Supports Biblical Account of King David

A new archaeological discovery is helping to confirm the biblical record that presents King David as an historical figure in ancient Israel.

Some archaeologists and experts have doubted the biblical account because they have not been able to find any evidence of civilization dating back to the time when David is supposed to have ruled, according to the Bible: “no fortifications, public works or signs of statehood.”

“Until 25 years ago no one doubted that King David was a historical figure,”  adds Professor Avraham Faust, director of the archaeological dig. “In the last 25 years or so, however, David’s historicity, and especially the size of his kingdom, are hotly debated“.

That is no longer true, however, after this recent discovery.

“The new discovery at Tel ‘Eton, located in the Judean Shephelah to the east of the Hebron hills, seems to suggest that the highland kingdom controlled larger areas than some scholars believe”, Faust continued, as reported by Breaking Israel News.

The city discovered has been identified as the biblical city of Eglon, a Canaanite city which fought against Israel.

Professor Faust explained the significance of the discovery in greater detail:

“We, of course, did not find any artifacts that said ‘King David’ or King Solomon’ but we discovered at the site signs of a social transformation the region…

Anglican Gay Marriage Debate Heats Up Over ‘Procreation’ vs ‘Gift of Children’ Wording at Weddings

(Photo: Toby Melville/Reuters)Gay rights campaigners protest in the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral in Canterbury during the Anglican Primates meeting in January 2016.

The internal debates in the Church of England over whether gay marriage should be embraced continues to intensify, with opposing letters seeking to advise The Episcopal Church in the U.S. over whether it should use the phrase “gift of children” instead of “procreation” in its marriage service.

Although CofE Secretary General William Nye pushed back against TEC’s plans to change the wording to its marriage services, as many as 300 liberal-minded members recently published an open letter backing the plan.

Nye’s letter is dated October 2017 but only emerged to the public earlier in April, and is included in a series of documents posted online by TEC’s General Convention website.

It acknowledges that there is “division of opinion” regarding gay relationships in the Anglican communion, but points out that the CofE’s official position is that “sexual activity outside marriage between a man and a woman is contrary to God’s will.”

Nye goes on to criticize TEC for seeking to use the phrase “the gift of children” in its marriage services, arguing that it’s deliberately ambiguous and erases the “procreative function of…

Winning Your Unbelieving Spouse To Christ (Part 4) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Winning Your Unbelieving Spouse To Christ (4)

Dear Reader,

I am sure that you have been receiving some helpful truths on how to get your spouse saved. Continuous practice of what you have received will further guarantee a quick testimony for you in Jesus’ name! This week, I will be teaching on one virtue that is very helpful in getting your spouse saved. It is one virtue that looks so insignificant that many believers find very hard to use. This virtue is PATIENCE.

Patience, is the human ability to accept delay, annoyance or suffering without complaining. It is also the ability to keep doing something that requires a lot of effort. Patience is a must when it comes to the salvation of your spouse. Many who are faced with the challenges of being married to their unsaved spouses always seek quick ways of quitting the marriage. Rather than staying in it to work out these challenges, they opt for ways to put an end to the marriage. If this is the situation with you, I would like you to know that this is not the solution.

Praying, fasting and living a Christian life that speaks will demand your patience, as your unsaved spouse may try to frustrate your efforts by constantly doing those things that may upset you and is against your Christian faith. Your unsaved spouse’s contrary actions to what you are praying for, is not of his or her will. Remember, he or she has not seen the light and can be considered one that has been blinded and is still under the influence of the prince of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4). Patience, while praying, fasting and living a life that speaks is needful when an instant miracle does not happen the way you expect it to. Hebrews 10:35-39 says: Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

Remember, that when you too were unsaved, you might have done worse things in foolishness, but God still found joy in accepting you as His child. He forgave you and redeemed you so that you could do the same, especially towards your unsaved spouse. It may take some time for him or her to come around to accepting Jesus with you, but patience will help you not to give up just too quickly. Your faith will be tried as written in James 1:3-4 which says: Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. But when patience is in place, you will always find yourself strengthened instead of fainting at such times. Learn to exercise more patience with your spouse who is an unbeliever. Do not see him or her as the person responsible for all those negative actions, rather see the devil as the sole culprit and address the situation that way when you are before the Lord.

Instead of talking back, nagging, shouting, insulting or giving in all together, remember, that it is the voice of the devil that is controlling your spouse and not your spouse. When you see it this way, you will seek ways to protect your unsaved spouse and direct your anger back at the devil accordingly. Also, you meditate on all the testimonies that you have read so far, which had the working of patience attached to them. The people involved, carefully and patiently acted on the Word of God that they had received.

Here is another testimony that will further build your faith: “I give thanks to God for quelling the war in my home between my husband and I. I kept praying for God to touch my husband’s heart, so that we could both be attending church services together. I remembered God’s Word; I believed it and kept appropriating it to myself. On Tuesday, when another fight was to start, I left the house for my mother’s house. On returning home in the evening, my husband said he wanted to talk to me. He said he wanted to give his life to Christ. This morning, to the glory of God, my husband is here in church with me.”

I tell you once again, there is nothing that is too much for God to do. But for Him to fulfill His part, you have to fulfill your part effectively. Can you imagine a situation whereby you could have led your spouse patiently unto salvation, you opted to walk out on your marriage and much later by some other miraculous means your spouse becomes a believer! You may also just be the vessel God wants to use to get the message of salvation across to him or her. You will not fail in Jesus’ name! You will make it! So, don’t give up!

The act of being patient can only be easy when God becomes your stronghold. It is quite impossible to be patient by your own power and might. Zechariah 4:6 says: …Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts. God’s Word in Colossians 1:11 also says: Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness. Holding unto Him will give you an access to that power. However, if you have not yet accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you too can do so, and become a child of God. If you are not born again and you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour, then say this prayer in faith: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.

Congratulations! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now born again and a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name! Call or write to share your testimonies with me through [email protected], 07026385437 OR 08141320204.

‘We Do Not Submit to Abuse’

(Screenshot: TheGospelCoalition.org)Bible teacher and author Beth Moore speaks during a panel discussion at the MLK 50 Conference in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 2018.

Evangelist Beth Moore, founder of Living Proof Ministries, has slammed Christian church culture that she says “demonizes” divorce as the worst sin even as wives are being abused by their husbands.

Moore’s comments come in the midst of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary President Paige Patterson seeking to clarify past comments of his that many say appeared to support women staying with abusive husbands rather than separating.

Moore, who has been speaking out on several issues related to abuse of women in the Church, wrote several posted on Twitter over the weekend criticizing the way some churches have handled questions of spousal abuse.

“I’m pro marriage. Nearly 40 years of ups and downs to back that up. But when we as a church culture demonize divorce as the worst possible outcome — the sin of all sins — we truly have no clue on this ever loving earth what some people are enduring. We do not submit to abuse. NO,” the 60-year-old evangelist declared on Saturday.

In a later tweet she said that she’s “dealt with sexism in my church culture for 60 years.”

“Had to accept certain degrees of it…

Deadly caterpillars have invaded London

London is a world-class city. Its history and pageantry are combined with its status as a global financial center. It’s not surprising that more than forty-two million tourists are expected to visit the city this year.

But if you’re planning a visit this summer, avoid the caterpillars.

A particular breed (technically the larval stage of the oak processionary moth) has been deemed toxic by authorities at the UK’s Forestry Commission. The caterpillar’s sixty-two thousand hairs seem to trigger severe allergic reactions in humans. They can cause skin rash, difficulty in breathing, and even death by anaphylactic shock.

Here’s my question: if you have no plans to visit London, what about this story caused you to read it?

A second item in the news: doctors have identified five habits that could help you live a decade longer.

A new study names the five: never smoke, maintain a healthy body-mass index, keep up moderate to vigorous exercise, don’t drink too much alcohol, and eat a healthy diet. Adhering to these five lifestyle factors at age fifty, compared with not adhering to any of them, was associated with fourteen additional years of life for women and 12.2 added years for men.

Once again, what about this story caused you to read it?

What’s wrong with fear

I recently read Hans Rosling’s Factfulness: Ten Reasons We’re Wrong About the World–and Why Things Are Better Than You Think. Bill Gates calls it “one of the most important books I’ve ever read.” I can see why.

One reason we’re “wrong about the world,” according to Rosling, is that we’re afraid of it. He notes that fears of physical harm, captivity, and contamination by invisible substances that can poison or infect us are “hard-wired deep in our brains.”

In our media-saturated day, one very effective way for a news outlet to get our attention is to tell us stories that stoke such fears. Stories on declining malaria rates or mild weather won’t get past our…

Christian peer heckled for referring to ‘good Muslims’ during Lords question

Lord Pearson of Rannoch, whos is part of the UKIP Party, tabled a question asking for the Government to outline what assessment it has made of the future growth of the Muslim population in England and the impact on the relationship between Sharia law and domestic law.

Home Office minister Baroness Williams of Trafford said no assessment of current or future growth of any faith population has been made, adding Sharia law has no jurisdiction in England and Wales.

Lord Pearson criticised the answer before adding: “Good Muslims must follow Muhammad’s example and impose Sharia law on their hosts when they are…”

Labour peers sat nearby interrupted Lord Pearson with shouts of “rubbish” and “nonsense”, before he continued: “When they are strong enough to do so.

“Because several of our local authorities will soon be Muslim-majority and because anger is already rising among our kafir working-class at the Islamification of their communities.

“So first can I again ask the Government whether they will require all teaching in our mosques and madrasas to be in English?

“And second, can I yet again ask them to foster open national debate about Islam to include our Muslim friends so we can all understand with what we may be dealing in a few years time?”

One Labour peer could be heard saying: “Could you sit somewhere else for your next question?”

Lady Williams replied: “I think the…

Cardinal Pell to face trial over historical sexual assault allegations

Magistrate Belinda Wallington dismissed some of the charges that had been heard in the four-week preliminary hearing in Melbourne, but decided the prosecution’s case against Pell was strong enough to warrant a trial by jury.

When she asked the cardinal how he pleaded, he said in a firm voice: “Not guilty.”

Lawyers for Australia’s highest-ranking Catholic had argued the accusations were untrue and should be dismissed.

Pell, Pope Francis’ former finance minister, was charged last June with sexually abusing multiple people in his Australian home state of Victoria.

The details of the allegations against the 76-year-old have yet to be released to the public, although police have described the charges as “historical” sexual assault offences.

His alleged victims testified in the first two weeks of the preliminary hearing via a video link from a remote location to a room closed to the media and public.

His lawyer Robert Richter told Wallington in his final submissions two weeks ago that the complainants might have testified against one of the church’s most powerful men to punish him for failing to act against abuse by clerics.

But prosecutor Mark Gibson told the magistrate there was no evidence to back Richter’s theory that Pell had been targeted over the church’s failings.
