Topic: Hunger and Thirst for Peace [Joyce Meyer’s Devotional Tuesday May 1, 2018]

…For you [and only You] I wait [expectantly] all the day long. — Psalm 25:5

When Jesus sent out the disciples two by two to preach and heal, He told them to go into each city, find in it a suitable house in which to stay, and to say to the people, “Peace be unto you.” He went on to say that if they were accepted, they should stay there and minister. But if they were not accepted, they were to leave, shaking the very dust of that place off their feet (see Matthew 10:11-15).

I used to wonder why Jesus said that. Then the Lord revealed to me that if the disciples remained in a house or city that was in strife, they could not do any real work there. Do you know why? Because strife grieves the Holy Spirit. When peace leaves, the Holy Spirit leaves, and He is the one who does the real work.

When you picture Jesus going about ministering to others, how do you see Him? Certainly not with the hurry-up attitude we often have. Don’t you instead get an image of Him ministering in quiet, tranquil peace? That is a trait you and I need to develop. As ambassadors for Christ, we need to be more like our Master. If we want to do anything for our Lord and Savior, we need to learn to hunger and thirst for peace.

Prayer Starter: Father, thank You for Your peace. Please reveal any areas of my life where I am allowing strife to creep in. Help me to become a “maker and maintainer of peace” everywhere I go (see Matthew 5:9). In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Topic: Reward For Faithfulness [DCLM Daily Manna Tuesday May 1, 2018]

Text: Mark 10:28-38 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee” (Mark 10:28).

MESSAGE:

Reward is always expected for any labour done. Workers engaged by any organisation are expected to earn wages monthly or weekly as the case may be. The kingdom of God is no exception.

In our text, Peter asked the Lord what would be the benefits of those who had forsaken all to follow Him. In response, the Lord said, such people who left all to follow Him will receive a hundred fold here and hereafter. And as their journey to Jerusalem continued, He told them what would happen to Him. It made His disciples sorrowful, wondering how all these things would affect them. In the midst of it all came James and John requesting for a special positions in the coming Kingdom.

As we look at the world today and efforts being made in many areas of life, no doubt, many have excelled in science, sports, academics and so on. These great strides have lifted mankind from base status to modernity and turned the world into a global village. However, it is worthy of note that these achievements, rewards, fame and accolades will all end on earth.

The services rendered to God by His children are “profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come” (1 Timothy 4:8). As we heed the call not to labour for the meat which perishes, but for that which endures unto eternal life, we need to examine the content of our daily labours. Our secular works are good and profitable to us on earth but must not constitute hindrance towards the work of the Kingdom. Like the house of Stephanas that addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints, every believer should strive to do something significant for Christ and His kingdom. God will reward our labour of love.

Scripture: Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16.

Thought For The Day: You exist as a representative of the Kingdom of God in character, conduct and action at the workplace.

Today is International Workers’ Day! On a day like this, it is necessary to learn the wisdom behind success at the workplace.

Now, it is important to know that, as a Christian, you exist as a representative of the Kingdom of God in character, conduct and action at the workplace; you exist as a light-bearer and a road-pointer for the ungodly at the place of work. This is why it is very critical to understand God’s wisdom for the workplace in order to show unbelievers the way to quality, excellent and exemplary service.

Now, what is God’s wisdom at the workplace?

1. Be an asset, not a concern

At your workplace, make up your mind to be a blessing and not a burden; refuse to be a welfare employee. To be an asset means, being a difference-maker and a change agent. As an employee, let your arrival signal change.

2. Be Faithful, Reliable, Dependable and Trustworthy

Just as Potiphar left everything in Joseph’s hand and nothing missed (Genesis 39:1-5), let the heart of your boss rest because you are in charge. Let everything under your custody be safe. Let there be no story where money is involved. If you cannot be trusted, you cannot be entrusted.

3. Be a Solution-Provider, Not a Money-Monger

Do not be a money-hungry employee, be a problem-solver. Identify the problems around you and solve them. Never let your boss notice any challenge before you especially in your unit; you render yourself ineffective and inefficient in that place if that becomes the situation.

Beloved, my counsel is, decide to be a change agent at your place of work. Do more than you are paid to do and after a short while, you will have a change of level in income.

Remember this: You exist as a representative of the Kingdom of God in character, conduct and action at the work place.

Assignments:
1. Identify the problems in your workplace and provide solutions.
2. Go the extra mile; do more than is expected of you at your place of work.

Prayer: O Lord, give me the grace to be a solution provider at my place of work. I receive Your Help to go the extra mile Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

“But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.” Psalm 3:3

No matter what they have said about you, no matter how many weapons that had been fashioned against you, no matter how impossible it is, I announce to you that you are coming out. There is hope for you! The book of Job 14:7 declares: “For there is hope of a tree if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease”. (KJV) You are going to bounce back. You can’t serve God and lose. When you decided to serve God and made a choice to receive Christ into your heart, you automatically stepped into the arena of victory. Beloved, you are now in the arena of victory! No more defeat for you. The devil can try but he cannot succeed.

I am so excited to be a child of God! It is the greatest thing that can ever happen to anyone in this life. I have no regret! Being a Spirit-filled and sanctified child of God is the greatest thing. As believers, we are the greatest asset on earth. Without us on earth, this world will dissipate. Know, therefore, that you are important.

If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things have passed away, all things have become new. You have been sanctified. You are holy! You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a peculiar person, a holy nation, set aside, to show forth the praises of him who has brought us out of darkness into his marvellous light. That devil is a liar. You will manifest! It is not over for you! I don’t care how low you are, I don’t care how tough it is, you shall be celebrated. Because you are standing in the arena of victory, evil shall bow before you. What has been pursuing you is now turning around. You will not die prematurely. You will not be disappointed. The enemy will not violate you. You will fulfil destiny.

Topic: Waiting in Anticipation [Our Daily Bread 1 Tuesday May, 2018]

Read: Psalm 130:1–6, Bible in a Year: 1 Kings 10–11; Luke 21:20–38

I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning. Psalm 130:6

Every May Day (May 1) in Oxford, England, an early morning crowd gathers to welcome spring. At 6:00, the Magdalen College Choir sings from the top of Magdalen Tower. Thousands wait in anticipation for the dark night to be broken by song and the ringing of bells.

Like the revelers, I often wait. I wait for answers to prayers or guidance from the Lord. Although I don’t know the exact time my wait will end, I’m learning to wait expectantly. In Psalm 130 the psalmist writes of being in deep distress facing a situation that feels like the blackest of nights. In the midst of his troubles, he chooses to trust God and stay alert like a guard on duty charged with announcing daybreak. “I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning” (v. 6).

The anticipation of God’s faithfulness breaking through the darkness gives the psalmist hope to endure even in the midst of his suffering. Based on the promises of God found throughout Scripture, that hope allows him to keep waiting even though he has not yet seen the first rays of light.

Be encouraged if you are in the middle of a dark night. The dawn is coming—either in this life or in heaven! In the meantime, don’t give up hope but keep watching for the deliverance of the Lord. He will be faithful.

Prayer: Please bring light to my darkness. Open my eyes to see You at work and to trust You. I’m grateful that You are faithful, Father.

God can be trusted in the light and in the dark.

Insight:

In Psalm 130:5–6 the word wait(s) appears five times. In the Lord’s development of our personal faith, He often delays an answer to prayer to deepen our trust in Him. At times this can be perplexing. Asking for His intervention for a wayward child or for healing of a painful illness often carries a sense of urgency. We pray, “Lord, I need your help now!” But “waiting on the Lord” takes discipline and develops a perseverance in our faith that only steadfastness can yield. Abram waited years for Isaac, the child of promise, to finally be given to him. And this was through Sarah’s unlikely conception when she was advanced in years and beyond the age of childbearing. Yet God’s sovereign hand was orchestrating these events. Abram waited on God in prayer, and eventually God granted him offspring too numerous to count (Genesis 12; 16:10; 17:1–19).

Topic: Break Through the Wall [Kenneth & Gloria Copeland, Tuesday May 1, 2018]

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. – Philippians 4:13

You’re running the race set before you, moving full-speed ahead with God’s blessing overtaking you at every step. Then suddenly, wham! You hit the wall. It may be a wall of sickness or financial trouble, of spiritual failure or family problems. But, regardless of the form it takes, the effect of “the wall” is always the same. It stops you cold.

The question is, once you hit a wall like that, what will you do? You’ll be tempted to quit, to turn back in defeat. But don’t do it. Because God will enable you to break through that wall and keep right on going.

I’m not going to tell you it’s easy. The truth is, it’s tough. But you have to push on through the tough times if you’re ever going to have a breakthrough.

Ask any athlete. He’ll tell you that! Because if he’s a winner, he’s been there. He’s pushed his body to what seems to be the maximum. His side has hurt. His lungs have ached. He’s had cramps in his legs and thighs. And just when he felt like he couldn’t go on, he’s heard some coach yell, “Come on! Move it!”

Athletes call that “hitting the wall.” It’s a time when the body says, “That’s it. That’s all I can do. I can’t go any farther. I can’t go any faster. I quit.”

But the seasoned athlete knows that “the wall” isn’t the end. It’s a signal that he’s on the verge of a breakthrough. If he’ll toughen up and push himself a little more, he’ll get a second wind. Suddenly, he’ll go faster than before. He’ll reach a level of excellence he couldn’t have reached any other way.

When you feel the worst, when failure is breathing down your neck, press in to the Word as never before. You may meditate on a particular scripture for days and even weeks sometimes, trying to get a revelation of it, seemingly without success. Then suddenly, like the dawn of the morning, light will come pouring in. You’ll see the way to break through. All you have to do is punch one little hole in that wall of problems, dig one tiny hole in it with your faith and with the Word of God.

Then keep tearing away at that hole. Don’t quit! And, before long, the forces of God will come bursting through, demolishing every obstacle in their path!

Once that happens you’ll never be the same again. You’ll be hooked. It will only take one breakthrough like that to make a never-dying, never-quitting champion out of you.
