‘The Middle’ Co-Stars Patricia Heaton & Jen Ray Visit Refugees in Uganda With World Vision

After wrapping up the series finale of the ABC show “The Middle,” actresses Patricia Heaton and Jen Ray traveled with the evangelical humanitarian aid agency World Vision to serve South Sudanese refugees in Uganda.

On Saturday, Heaton, an outspoken Christian conservative, posted a video on her Facebook page showing her reading prayers that fans sent for her to encourage a 14-year-old refugee child named Victor.

Heaton, who plays the character Frankie Heck on “The Middle,” recently visited with Victor during the trip with World Vision.

Victor is now the caretaker of his three siblings after having to flee South Sudan in 2016 without his parents when violence broke out in their area. Since December of 2013, brutal conflict in South Sudan has driven nearly four million people from their homes.

According to the agency, Victor and his siblings lost contact with their parents when the fighting occured and Victor was forced to take on the role no older brother ever wants to take on.

Without their parents, Victor and the siblings walked for over two weeks and were forced to eat anything they could get their hands on as they sought safety. Thanks to help from World Vision, Victor and his siblings are now being aided by a foster family and have returned to school.

Earlier this month, Heaton posted a request to her Facebook page seeking prayers for Victor and his siblings.

“Send a prayer for Victor below, and I will read them to him IN PERSON this week!” Heaton wrote on in an April 10 Facebook post.

In the video posted Saturday, Heaton read several of the 700 prayers she…

Christian Association Urges Nigerian President to Ignore British PM May’s Calls to Embrace LGBT Rights

The Christian Association of Nigeria has urged Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, a Muslim, to ignore calls from British Prime Minister Theresa May to embrace LGBT rights and laws that decriminalize same-sex activity.

Same-sex marriage and same-sex relationships are illegal in Nigeria, which is roughly split in half between its Christian and Muslim populations.

Last week, May, a Christian and a vicar’s daughter who has embraced gay marriage in the U.K., said that she has “deep regrets” over the criminalization of gay relations in former British colonies, which includes Nigeria.

“As the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister I deeply regret both the fact that such laws were introduced and the legacy of discrimination, violence and death that persists today,” May said while speaking at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

“As a family of nations we must respect one another’s cultures and traditions but we must do so in a manner consistent with our common value of equality — a value that is clearly stated in the Commonwealth Charter,” she added, as reported by Sky News.

“Nobody should face discrimination or persecution because of who they are or who they love and the UK stands ready to help any Commonwealth member wanting to reform outdated legislation that makes such discrimination possible.”

Her comments were in response to LGBT groups asking the U.K. to apologize for anti-gay legislation that still remains in place in several Commonwealth countries.

Justin Welby congratulates William and Kate on birth of baby boy

Justin Welby tweeted: “Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the safe delivery of their baby, a brother for Prince George and Princess Charlotte. May God bless them and all of their children with love, happiness and health.”

The birth has left the royal family and the Middletons “delighted”, Kensington Palace has said.

Mother and baby are “both doing well” after the infant prince was born at 11.01am, weighing 8lb 7oz.

The baby’s sex was a surprise to William and Kate, who chose not to find out what they were having.

Prime Minister Theresa May led the messages of support for the couple, saying: “My warmest congratulations to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their baby boy.

“I wish them great happiness for the future.”

The new prince of Cambridge is fifth in line to the throne and a younger sibling to Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

He was born more than five hours after the duchess was driven to the private maternity wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, central London. She arrived before 6am, in the early stages of labour, with the duke by her side.

A huge media presence soon gathered outside the private Lindo Wing in anticipation of the birth, the same unit where George and Charlotte were born and their father the duke.

Peer defends Syria trip and reveals support for Assad

Christian Baroness Cox joined other members of the House of Lords and church leaders to hold meetings with the Assad regime.

Tory MP Nigel Evans said at the time it “defied logic” that the group visited the country just a week after dozens were suspected killed by chemical weapons in Douma.

However, Lady Cox told Premier she questioned whether there had been a chemical weapons attack at all.

Condemning the UK’s participation in air strikes, the crossbench member of the House of Lords said: “Everyone is…deeply, deeply angered by the use of missiles by the UK, the US and by France really for three reasons – one, it was illegal.

“There was no mandate and Syria is not about to attack our country, so there’s no legal justification and also the timing. They actually sent the missiles the day before the chemical weapons investigators were due to investigate.”

“There’s also a lot of concern about the British government’s continuing commitment to so-called regime change. There is no moderate armed opposition left so any regime change would just open up the situation to another Iraq, another Libya – that’s the last thing they want.”

Lady Cox’s visit earlier this month included a meeting with the Grand Mufti of Syria, who has been accused by Amnesty International of authorising the mass hangings of prisoners in the country’s Saydnaya jail.

The peer said she was not aware of…

GQ Magazine Includes the Bible on List of Books ‘You Don’t Have to Read’

GQ Magazine Includes the Bible on List of Books ‘You Don’t Have to Read’

GQ Magazine is under fire for publishing an article titled “21 Books You Don’t Have to Read,” which list included the Bible.

The GQ editors who compiled the article wrote, “We’ve been told all our lives that we can only call ourselves well-read once we’ve read the Great Books. We tried…But a few pages into Bleak House, we realized that not all the Great Books have aged well. Some are racist and some are sexist, but most are just really, really boring. So we—and a group of un-boring writers—give you permission to strike these books from the canon.”

Some of the classic books that the GQ editors suggest are overrated and not worth reading include The Catcher in the Rye, The Old Man and the Sea, The Lord of the Rings, and the Bible.

The editors claim that the Bible “is repetitive, self-contradictory, sententious, foolish, and even at times ill-intentioned.”

Several pastors and Christian leaders responded to the GQ article, including Hillsong pastor Brian Houston who tweeted, “Wow. What a way for GQ to show this irrelevance. The bible is way more hip than GQ.”

Relevant Magazine writer Jesse Carey also noted that, regardless if someone is a Christian or not, suggesting we stop reading the Bible shows a lack of understanding of how “The Bible has helped shape western philosophy and provided the basis for many of modern history’s most pivotal…

Megachurch Pastor Les Hughey Admits ‘Sinning’ After 4 Women Accuse Him of Back Rubs, Sex

(Screenshot: YouTube/Highlands Church)Les Hughey, the founder of Highlands Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, delivers a sermon on February 18, 2018.

Les Hughey, the founder of Highlands Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, has been placed on leave as the megachurch investigates accusations recently made by four women who say that he took sexual advantage of them when they were teenagers.

Hughey responded to the accusations, published in The Modesto Bee, on Saturday by admitting that inappropriate relationships did take place in the past, but insisted that they were of a consensual nature.

“Over 40 years ago, as a church intern in California, I sinned and harmed the most important relationships in my life. I was unfaithful to my God, my wife, and the ministry, and was rightly removed from that church. I engaged in consensual relations with fellow college-aged staff,” began Hughey’s confession.

“With God’s help, my wife’s forgiveness, and discipline and counseling from church authority, I sincerely repented and we put our lives back in order. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to undo what happened, so I instead accept and live with the consequences, even now so many years later.

“My family and the authority over me at my church are aware of this history. I thank God for his forgiveness…

Authorities Search for Suspect Who Killed 4 in Nashville Waffle House Shooting

Authorities Search for Suspect Who Killed 4 in Nashville Waffle House Shooting

The city of Nashville, Tennessee is on high alert Monday as authorities search for a suspect who opened fire in a Waffle House restaurant on Sunday, killing four people.

Fox News reports that the 29-year-old suspect shot two people in the Waffle House parking lot before entering the establishment with his AR-15 rifle. It was a Waffle House customer who bravely wrestled the weapon away from the suspect, who then fled.

Those killed in the shooting have been identified as 29-year-old restaurant worker Taurean C. Sanderlin, and restaurant customers Joe R. Perez, 20, Akilah Dasilva, 23, and DeEbony Groves, 21. Four other people were wounded, one of whom is in critical condition.

The man who wrestled the weapon away from the suspect, preventing further loss of life, is being hailed as a hero. Twenty-nine-year-old James Shaw, Jr. deflected the praise and said he was just trying to stay alive.

The suspect has not yet been apprehended, and it is thought he has “mental issues.” He reportedly opened fire at the Waffle House wearing nothing but a green jacket.

He’s on foot,” said Nashville Police chief Steve Anderson. “Unless he’s been picked up by a car, he would be fairly close. We don’t want to alarm people, but certainly, everybody should take precautions. It could be he’s in an unoccupied house. We want everybody to be concerned. Neighbors should check on each…

Two priests murdered in Mexico in same week

Fr Rubén Alcántara Díaz, 50, judicial vicar at the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, was stabbed to death last Wednesday evening, just minutes before the 7pm Mass he was due to celebrate.

On Friday, Fr Juan Miguel Contrera Garcia, 33, was shot dead by a group of armed assailants in his parish in the State of Jalisco.

The attack reportedly took place immediately after he had celebrated Mass.

According to the Catholic Multimedia Center, at least four priests have been slain in Mexico this year, and 23 have been murdered since 2012.

Responding to the latest deaths, Cardinal José Francisco Robles Ortega, Archbishop of Guadalajara said in a statement: “We make an urgent call to build a culture of peace and reconciliation. These lamentable events call all of us to a much deeper and sincere conversion.

“It is time to look honestly at our culture and society, and to ask ourselves why we have lost respect for life and for the sacred.”

The cardinal also called on the authorities to investigate the crimes and not allow it to go unpunished.

Youth, Schools and Violence: What Can Churches Do?

(Photo: Reuters/Jonathan Drake)A family sits around one of 17 crosses at a memorial for the victims of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, February 16, 2018.

Read Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4 of The Christian Post’s series on youth and school violence.

Churches must make every effort to become “safe spaces” for teens and young adults to open up about issues, pastors say, to counter the raft of increased violence in the nation’s schools and elsewhere.

“The Church has failed this generation. The Church has become known for judgment and not being a safe place to open up. So if you have questions, doubts, angst or fears, you take those to school or to your friends because you feel belittled or judged at church,” Nick Hall, founder of PULSE, a student-led prayer and evangelism movement, told The Christian Post. “We go wrong when we don’t lead with Jesus. Jesus welcomes our questions, fears and doubts.”

“The Church should be the most welcoming place on earth. If you’re hurting or broken or a mess you shouldn’t have to fake it there. Too often churches are full of people faking it, while inside, things are falling apart.”

The Washington Post is collecting data on violence in schools. As of March this year, more than 187,000 students in about 170…

Magazine names Bible on list of classics that don’t have to be read

In a piece by the editors of the magazine, the Holy book is said to be “rated very highly by all the people who supposedly live by it but who in actuality have not read it”.

They go on to claim: “Those who have read it know there are some good parts, but overall it is certainly not the finest thing that man has ever produced.

“It is repetitive, self-contradictory, sententious, foolish, and even at times ill-intentioned.”

The editors offered Agota Kristof’s The Notebook as an alternative to reading the Bible “if the thing you heard was good about the Bible was the nasty bits”.

The editors have been criticized for including the Bible on its list.

Fox News religion contributor Fr Jonathan Morris said they “took 21 books they think should be digitally burned…which doesn’t sound like a very hip thing”.

He added that the editors “throw out a lot of the best books of Western Civilization”.

The list also included The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho which the magazine said “somehow, even at 208 pages…is 207 pages too long” and included Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain as the author “was a racist”.
