Greg Laurie Tells Christian Woman in Long-Term Relationship With Nonbeliever: ‘Break Up With Him!’

(Screenshot: Facebook/Greg Laurie)Pastor Greg Laurie answering the question “Should a Christian be in a relationship with a non believer?” in a Facebook video published on April 6, 2018.

Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship in California recently advised a Christian woman who’s in a long-term relationship with a nonbeliever that she should break up with him.

“Someone wrote to me recently and asked about the relationship with the guy she’s been involved in for four years. She says he’s not into God, he’s not into religion, and he’s dragging her down spiritually,” Laurie said in a Facebook video posted on Friday.

“What should she do? Ready for the answer? Break up with him!” he said.

“The Bible says, ‘Don’t be unequally yoked together with nonbelievers, for what friendship does light have with darkness?'” he added, referring to 2 Corinthians 6:14.

“Look, sometimes believers can pull nonbelievers up, but more often nonbelievers pull believers down. When you’re getting into a relationship with someone, look for someone that loves the Lord. Let me take it a step further, look for someone that loves the Lord even more than you do. So look for a Godly man, or a Godly girl,” the pastor urged.

Most Pastors Say Their Churches Never Discipline Members for Sinful Misconduct, Survey Finds

(PHOTO: PIXABAY)

Protestant churches in the United States rarely reprimand their members for misconduct as a survey indicates that more than half of pastors say they don’t know of an instance in which their church has disciplined a member.

LifeWay Research unveiled a new poll Thursday in which over 1,000 Protestant senior pastors, ministers and priests were interviewed about their church’s handling of formal discipline. The responses were weighed by region to reflect population. The sampling size includes a 3.2-percentage-point margin of error.

When asked over the phone when the last time their church formally disciplined a member, 55 percent of pastors said that “a member has not been formally disciplined since I came as pastor nor prior as far as I know.”

Only 3 percent of pastors said that discipline was issued within the last month and 5 percent said that their churches disciplined members within the last six months. Meanwhile, 8 percent of pastors said their churches had disciplined members in the last year and 5 percent said that members had been punished in the last two years.

ERLC Scholar Tells Christians ‘Freedom’ Shouldn’t Be Their Main Political Value

(PHOTO: STAND UP FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM)Christians hold a Stand Up for Religious Freedom rally in Miami, Florida.

Southern Baptist scholar and author Jonathan Leeman is encouraging Christians to “rethink” the way they engage in the public square and urging them not to lift up certain gifts from God, such as the gift of freedom, higher than God Himself.

Leeman, a research fellow at the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and editorial director for the Christian ministry 9Marks, released his new book Tuesday, How the Nations Rage: Rethinking Faith and Politics in a Divided Age.

In an interview with The Christian Post, Leeman said the book aims to help Christians who are confused about how their faith should impact how they think politically during a time when the majority of political engagement on both sides of the political aisle has seemingly turned into an us-versus-them battle.

“My fear is that many Christians go into the public square with utopian hopes,” Leeman told CP on Wednesday.

Leeman, who previously served as an elder at Capitol Hill Baptist Church before he recently planted a new church in a Maryland suburb of Washington, D.C., explained that he has met many Christians who have migrated to Washington with those “utopian hopes.”

“I do think Christians can go overboard in imposing more than the Bible authorizes them to impose,” Leeman contended.

One source of confusion for many Christians, Leeman said, is the fact that so many American principles — such as freedom and justice — “overlap with…

How Should We Respond When a Leader Implodes?Eric Geiger

I was at lunch with a friend recently, processing the news of another fallen leader. While perhaps we are only more aware of the number of leaders falling because of our constant connectedness via social media and online news, it sure feels like an epidemic at times. Regardless of whether or not the reality of leaders falling is more…

Polish politicians see salaries cut and bonuses handed to Christian charity

The head of Poland’s ruling party Jaroslaw Kaczynski announced the measures after an opinion poll showed a 12-point drop in support for his right-wing Law and Justice party.

It came after media reported on the bonuses government ministers received last year.

The prime minister at the time, who awarded the bonuses, fuelled the uproar by insisting that the ministers “deserved these bonuses”.

Law and Justice won power in 2015 partly by criticising the previous government for what the party said was extravagant spending.

Law and Justice leader Mr Kaczynski said the party has taken note of the public reaction. He also recalled he had previously said that “you don’t go into politics for money”.

“Clearly, the people remember these words, and this is why they reacted this way to the bonuses and expect a far-going frugality in public life,” he said.

He said the money from the bonuses, which ran into tens of thousands of zlotys, would be donated to a Catholic Church charity.

In a further move, the earnings of politicians at all levels of government will be reduced under a planned law Mr Kaczynski said he hoped would take effect before summer.

The announcement comes as Poland’s political parties start preparing for local elections in autumn.

Law and Justice spokeswoman Beata Mazurek said the moves are expected to silence criticism levelled by the opposition.

Facebook apologises for blocking Christian school’s crucifix ad

Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio posted a series of ads to Facebook to promote its online theology, catechetics and evangelisation programs on Good Friday.

However, Steubenville’s web communications director Tom Crowe reported on the school’s blog that one of the ads, which pictured Jesus on the cross, was rejected.

Facebook’s reason for blocking the ad stated: “Your image, video thumbnail or video can’t contain shocking, sensational, or excessively violent content.”

Franciscan University of Steubenville

The blog post continued: “The San Damiano Cross. Jesus in glory, reigning from his cruciform throne. This is what the monitors at Facebook consider excessively violent, sensational, and shocking.

“And indeed, the Crucifixion of Christ was all of those things. It was the most sensational action in history: man executed his God.

“It was shocking, yes: God deigned to take on flesh and was “obedient unto death, even death on a cross.”

Crowe told Fox News he doesn’t know why only the one clearly depicting the San Damiano Cross was blocked.

“It may have been the algorithm or a low level staffer who has something against Christianity,” he added.

Facebook has recently apologised for rejecting the – and admitted that it made a mistake. It has since officially approved the ad.

A Facebook spokesperson told Fox News: “Our team processes millions of ads each…

Families gather at church to learn of Canadian hockey team bus crash victims, survivors

Canadian police said a crash between a lorry and a bus carrying a junior hockey team in western Canada has left multiple people dead and others seriously injured.

The bus was carrying the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League to the town of Nipawin for a play-off game. It collided with a transporter truck.

“There have been multiple fatalities – our whole community is in shock,” said Kevin Garinger, president of the Humboldt Broncos of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have not released how many people died or were injured in the crash.

Mr Garinger said parents from across western Canada are rushing to the scene as they struggle to cope with the tragedy.

“It’s a horrible accident, my God,” said Darren Opp, president of the Nipawin Hawks hockey team. “It’s very, very bad.”

Mr Opp said the truck hit the side of the players’ bus, adding that the coaching staff and players from the Hawks are waiting to help.

“They are sitting in the church just waiting to hear any good news,” he said. “There’s uncles and moms and dads waiting to hear whether their sons and nephews are OK.”

Pastor Jordan Gadsby at the Apostolic Church in Nipawin said more than a hundred people gathered at the church. “Some of them are waiting to hear if their kids are alive.”

Mr Gadsby said they know there are multiple fatalities, but they have not…
