Andrew Wommack’s Devotional 7 April 2018 – The Power Of God’s Word

Topic: The Power Of God’s Word [Andrew Wommack Saturday April 7, 2018]

Luke 8:11, “Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.”

Text: Luke 8:11-15

It is through the reading of the Word and the enlightenment of the Holy Spirit that Christ in His fullness is known. What a privilege it is today to have God’s Word in our own language. Six hundred years ago there was no English translation of the whole Bible. Thanks to the efforts of John Wycliffe (1384) and William Tyndale (1523), today we are able to read and understand the writings of the apostles for ourselves. Men gave their lives to bring us God’s Word. We should take advantage of this wonderful privilege.

The piece of armor known as the “sword of the Spirit” is the only piece of armor that has the ability to cut, wound, and hurt our enemy, the devil. It’s not the Bible lying on your coffee table that makes the enemy flee, but it is the Word of God hidden in your heart, activated by the power of the Holy Spirit, and spoken in an appropriate situation. It’s similar to what is spoken when Jesus said in John 6:63, that “…the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life.” The Word by itself doesn’t make us free. It is the Word we know and speak that will deliver us (Jn. 8:32).

Why is the Word so effective? It’s because it is the WORD of God. It has authority, because it is indeed the WORD of God. God’s Word supersedes all authority of the church, of reason, of intellect, and even of Satan himself.

It is the Holy Spirit that wields this Word as it is spoken in faith. Speaking God’s Word in faith brings the Holy Spirit into action. In Luke 4, when Jesus was tempted of the devil for forty days, it was the Word of God, that Jesus used to defeat the enemy in the time of His temptation. Jesus constantly met His temptation by quoting from God’s Word as He repeatedly stated the phrase, “It is written.” Likewise, the Christian soldier must avail himself of God’s Word by placing it in his heart, so that the Holy Spirit may bring it forth at the appropriate time to accomplish a complete and total victory. It’s yours!

Billy Graham’s Devotional 7 April 2018 – What Makes Christianity Different?

Topic: What Makes Christianity Different? [Billy Graham’s Devotional Saturday April 7, 2018]

He is not here, but is risen. — Luke 24:6

Something distinguishes Christianity from all the religions of the world. Not only does it carry the truth of the redemption, by the death of our Savior for our sins on the cross, but it carries the fact that Christ rose again. Only the Christian faith claims that its Leader died and rose again and is alive at this moment. Many gravestones carry the inscription, “Here lies . . . ,” but on Christ’s tomb are emblazoned the words, “He is not here.” Christianity has no shrines to visit, no dusty remains to venerate, no tombs at which to worship. Many good men have lived, and still live, in the memory of those who knew them, but there is only one Man who conquered death-Jesus Christ-and He will live forever.

Prayer for the day: The account of Your resurrection never ceases to bring me joy, Lord Jesus.

Canadian Anglican Dean & 2 Doctors Facilitate Assisted Suicide of Elderly Couple Who Wanted to Die Together

A Canadian Anglican dean, together with two physicians, approved, facilitated, and oversaw an assisted suicide last week of an elderly couple who had requested to die at the same time.

Andrew Asbil, the Anglican dean of Toronto and rector of St. James Cathedral, was present and in total support of George and Shirley Brickenden’s decision to end their lives together, which occurred last Tuesday, according to several reports.

A lengthy April 1 article in the Globe and Mail captured their death as the final moment in a long love affair. The story recounted their initial engagement, decades of marriage, and deep affection for each other, mentioning how neither one was nervous about dying. The Brickendens are not the first couple to receive physician-assisted suicide simultaneously but were reportedly the first to speak about it publicly.

Asbil told the publication he had “no hesitation” regarding the couple’s desire that their funeral take place at the Anglican cathedral.

The Brickendens were in their 90s and had been married for 73 years. In addition to being supported by the Anglican dean, their family members also backed their decision and held “going away” festivities to mark the couple’s upcoming death.

Writing in LifeNews Tuesday, bioethics attorney Wesley Smith observed how times have changed.

“There was a time when the joint suicides of elderly people — technically, these were homicides — were deemed to be tragic, and families wracked their hearts wondering what could have been done to save them,” Smith said, adding that “[t]his is how the…

Baptist Association Becomes First in SBC to Expel Church for ‘UnChristian’ Racist Attitudes

(Photo: Facebook/Raleigh White Baptist Church)Raleigh White Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia

On the eve of the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, a Baptist association in Georgia held a historic vote to expel a longtime member church because of the alleged racist attitudes and actions of its members.

On Tuesday, the 53-church Mallory Baptist Association’s Executive Committee held a special meeting to address accusations of “unChristian attitudes” and “racially motivated” acts allegedly committed by members of Raleigh White Baptist Church in Albany.

The committee voted to strip the church, which has been a member of the association since the 1940s, of its membership.

“The reason for this action involved the church’s un-Christian attitudes and acts toward another associational church,” a statement from the executive committee states. “These attitudes and acts were racially motivated. Thus they do not reflect the values and mission of the Mallary Baptist Association.”

The Southern Baptist Convention’s Executive Committee on Tuesday named attorney D. August “Augie” Boto as its interim president following the retirement of former president Frank Page last month due to an “inappropriate relationship.”

Boto, who previously served as the entity’s lawyer and executive vice president, was named interim president following a meeting of executive committee officers in Nashville, Tennessee, reports SBC’s official news service Baptist Press.

According to committee chairman Stephen Rummage, senior pastor of Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Florida, Boto has over 20 years of service to the SBC.

Boto served for three years as a member of the committee during the 1990s and then was selected to serve as the committee’s vice president for convention policy and staff counsel in 1998. Boto began serving as executive vice president and general counsel of the executive committee in 2007.

Boto, a father of three, also serves as a Sunday School teacher and a Bible study leader at Forest Hills Baptist Church in Nashville.

“The officers have confidence that Augie will provide stability in leadership for the Executive Committee during this interim period as the EC begins its search for a new…

Pastor who lost son to knife crime pleads with churches to take action as murder rate spikes

An emergency meeting was held at Scotland Yard, with police and MPs forced to address the sudden increase in violent crime across London.

More than 50 people have been killed since the start of the year, 35 of them were knifed.  Another 6 people, including a 13-year-old boy were stabbed on Thursday.

Pastor Lorraine Jones told Premier it feels “terrible” to hear about all the killings.

“My relationship with God keeps me strong, but hearing of another stabbing or shooting, or even an attack, it brings back memories of when Dewayne was stabbed,” she said.

“He was on the life support machine for two days, so I have the experience of praying and believing he will come through and them him finally dying.”

Members of the public take part in an Anti Knife/Gun rally by Hackney Central Station in east London following the fatal stabbing of 18 year old Israel Ogunsola on Wednesday

Impassioned demonstrators from local churches and community groups called for unity at a rally in Hackney Central station on Thursday, close to where Israel Ogunsola, 18, was stabbed to death on Wednesday evening.

Jones said churches must take action to prevent violent crimes, and also be there to help families impacted by such tragedies.

She said: “Unfortunately we do have a tendency to keep in our comfort zone within the…

Open Heavens 7 April 2018 Saturday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Wonders Of Divine Blessings II

Topic: Wonders Of Divine Blessings II [Open Heavens 7 April 2018, Saturday]

Memorise: “Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.”Psalm 23:5 (Scroll down for Open Heavens Hymn)

Read: 1 kings 17:4-6 (KJV)

4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

Bible in One Year: Joshua 8-9, 1 Thessalonians 1-2.

MESSAGE:

Believe it or not, some people are afraid of blessings! Some prefer to be “average” rather than to be super-rich, because they believe wealth will either cause them to backslide or make them vulnerable to spiritual and physical attacks. These are wrong mindsets. Many years ago, while pondering on Psalm 23:5, I wondered why the ‘waste’ of blessings by pouring more into a cup that is already full. I heard the Lord say to me, “It is for Me to show My extraordinary sufficiency.” Hallelujah! One of the wonders of divine blessings is that God can use anything or anyone to make His provision available to you if you are His candidate for divine blessings. In 1 Kings 17:4-6, God sent ravens to bring food to Elijah twice a day. One of the astonishing part of this story is that ravens are known as flesh eaters. The question then is: how come they did not eat up the meat before getting to Elijah? It would have been understandable if sheep were the couriers in this regard. The truth of the matter is that when a person is divinely blessed, both the forces of heaven and earth will combine to assist the fellow. This was the case of the children of Israel in the wilderness. The wind brought them quails to eat and the rock produced water for them to drink (Psalm 195:40-42). I have often taught my children in church that whenever they embark on a venture and they realise that they always have to struggle so much to make ends meet, they should check back with God to know whether He is in that venture.

Matthew 17:24-27 offers a classical example of divine blessing. To pay their taxes, the Lord instructed Peter to go and catch a fish, open its mouth and pick a coin from it, the value of which would be sufficient to offset their tax bill. My firm belief is that there is a river near you with a fish inside it holding the right amount of money that you need in its mouth. This fish is just waiting to be caught by you. The ‘fish’ may be that fellow yearning for salvation, or that person who needs spiritual help so much. When you win him or her to Christ, everything you need may already be there in their hands, and the Lord will just move them to release it to you. As I studied the wealth of Solomon, I asked myself where his wealth came from. Then I saw in 2 Chronicles 9:13-14 that his wealth came from all the kings of Arabia and from the governors of other lands. Even the Queen of Sheba joyfully brought her wealth to him (1 Kings 10:1-10). Such is the wonder of divine blessings. I decree upon you today: you will be divinely blessed, and your days of struggling to make ends meet are over in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, You said I should continue to ask until my joy is full, and so I ask in Jesus’ Name that You divinely bless me until poverty becomes alien to me permanently.

After Controversy, Mark Driscoll to Re-Enter Publishing World With ‘Spirit Filled Jesus’

(Screenshot: YouTube)Pastor Mark Driscoll (L) and his wife Grace (R) promote his new book Spirit-Filled Jesus set for release in October 2018.

Nearly five years since publishing his last book, A Call to Resurgence: Will Christianity Have a Funeral or a Future?, controversial Pastor Mark Driscoll will return to the publishing world with a new book 30 years in the making called, Spirit-Filled Jesus.

Driscoll, who currently serves as senior pastor at The Trinity Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, was forced to step down in 2014 from his very successful but now defunct Mars Hill Church in Seattle due to allegations of bullying and plagiarism.

He was accused of plagiarizing the 2000 book written by theologian Peter Jones, called Gospel Truth, Pagan Lies: Can You Tell the Difference? Mars Hill also reportedly spent some $200,000 to land one of Driscoll’s books on The New York Times best-seller list.

Driscoll has wept and apologized over his past missteps and now wants to share lessons from the life-changing journey he has been on with the Holy Spirit.

“I have been on a journey with the Holy Spirit that has given me a life-changing new perspective: submitting to the Spirit has changed my marriage, how I raise my children and even how I minister to others,” said Driscoll in a…
