Christian zoo hits back at professor’s criticism

Alice Roberts, a University of Birmingham professor, broadcaster and author criticised the zoo in comments on Twitter on Sunday.

Anthony Bush, one of the owners of Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, told Premier she has criticised the zoo before but he doesn’t know why she does it.

“Alice Roberts has had a go at us before”, he said.

“I like Alice Roberts. She lives in our parish. She sends her child to our church school and yet she seems to have a go at me for some reason. It’s sort of a slight mystery as to what she’s got against us.”

Noah’s Ark Zoo has won numerous awards including The national ‘Quality Badge’ from the Learning Outside the Classroom Scheme and the Gold Award in the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

The zoo prides itself on being “a unique hands-on zoo” that celebrates “the wonders of creation”.

Its website states: “Did life arise naturally or supernaturally? Can undirected, random processes result in complex life forms or is there evidence to support the notion of a Creator? Can we reconcile our knowledge of evolution and a belief…

Anne Graham Lotz Reveals ‘Unique’ Way God Urged Her to Rest After Death of Father Billy Graham

(Screencap: Anne Graham Lotz/Facebook)Anne Graham Lotz speaking in a Facebook video posted on July 6, 2016.

Anne Graham Lotz said that after the death of her father, famed evangelist Billy Graham, and the busyness surrounding his funeral, God urged her to rest and take time to process what had taken place.

In a recent blog post, the founder of AnGeL Ministries shared how, following the death of John the Baptist, Jesus invited His disciples to come away by themselves and get some rest.

“He knew how difficult it was to minister to others while their own hearts were breaking,” she said. “I, too, have heard the Lord whisper that same invitation to me in a unique way following my father’s move to Heaven and the swirl of events that were triggered by it.”

The 69-year-old Lotz recounted the flurry of events that took place following her father’s passing on Feb. 21, including extensive meet-and-greets, a processional through the nation’s capitol, a private dinner at the White House, and a funeral service in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“To say I was beyond exhaustion physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually, would not come close to describing my state of being,” she said. “But the Lord knew I was poised to plunge into frantic activity in order to catch up on two weeks of…

Pope praised on fifth papal anniversary for ‘making Catholicism interesting’

While the Vatican’s Secretary of State praised him for a papal term marked by “joy”, Catholic figures in the UK hailed the 81-year-old as a reformer who has improved perceptions.

Catholic journalist Austen Ivereigh said Francis has made the Church’s governing body more open and dynamic, while placing a greater emphasis on pastoral care.

Setting out another change during the Argentinian’s papacy, he added: “He’s introduced a free-wheeling news conference on the papal plane coming back from his trips.

“In his first big foreign trip in July 2013, he stood in front of the world’s media for an hour and a half – and they literally asked him anything they wanted – and of course that generated a huge amount of headlines.

“There’s no question that he’s fascinated the world, he’s fascinated the news media; that’s really his single greatest accomplishment, to make the Church exciting, dynamic and interesting in many ways to the world outside the Church.”

Issuing his own tribute to Francis, Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said: “I would like to say that the fundamental characteristic of this Pontificate is precisely joy, a joy that does not arise evidently from carelessness, but from the fact of knowing that one is loved by the Lord.”

Paul Vallely, who wrote a biography about Pope Francis, credited the Catholic…

Billy Graham Embargoed Docs on Relationship With Barack Obama Until His Death; Now Set to Go Public

(PHOTO: WIKIMEDIA COMMONS/THE WHITE HOUSE)Former U.S. President Barack Obama visits Rev. Billy Graham in his home in North Carolina in 2010.

Billy Graham’s embargoed archival collections, which are said to detail his personal relationships with former presidents, including Barack Obama, and other major figures, like Pope John II, are now set to go public following his death.

The Billy Graham Center Archives at Wheaton College announced on Friday that two new collections of archives on Graham’s ministry are set to go public on March 19. In accordance to the late evangelist’s wish, they had been embargoed until his death.

“These collections are a treasure house for anyone interested in Rev. Graham, American evangelicalism, or global Christianity, among many other possible subjects,” said archivist Bob Shuster. “People will benefit from Rev. Graham’s generosity in making them available for many years to come.”

While Collection 580 includes documents such as letters, sermons, reports, memoranda, transcripts, clippings, manuscripts, and other materials on evangelicalism kept by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Collection 685 includes photos, notes, and phone conversations of notable figures the North Carolina evangelist corresponded with.

“Most of these notebooks…

Christian family stabbed to death in Iraq

Dr Hisham Shafiq al-Maskuni, 61, a radiologist at a nuns’ hospital, his wife Dr Shaza Malik Dinno, a gynaecologist at the same hospital, and her elderly mother, Khairiyah Dawood Abada, were stabbed by four men last Thursday who then stole money and some items from the house.

According to World Watch Monitor, the bodies were discovered by neighbours the next morning, after noticing through the open door Mr al-Maskuni’s body in the corridor. The police later found his wife’s body in the kitchen and her mother’s on the second floor.

Attacks on Iraq’s Christian community have forced thousands to flee from their homes, particularly in the capital. The significant loss of the Christian populace in the city led to eight churches closing their doors after nearly seven years of low to no attendance.

A spokesperson for Iraq’s Interior Ministry announced over the weekend that the suspects had been arrested.

While the motivation behind the murders remains unknown, a local source told World Watch Monitor the incident has increased fears among Iraqi Christians.

Fr Biyos Qasha of Baghdad Maryos Church echoed this fear and told Iraqi news agency Rudaw: “This (attack) means that there is no place for Christians. We are seen as a lamb to be killed at any time.”

He also shared his concern that “these are the signs of a start of a (new) plan to force the Christian population from their homes and out of the country”.

This is the…

Christian Family Stabbed at Home by Armed Group in Baghdad

Christian Family Stabbed at Home by Armed Group in Baghdad

International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that on March 9, 2018, a Christian family of three living in Baghdad was found dead in their home. An investigation showed that they had been stabbed to death the previous day by an armed group and their valuables were stolen. The victims are Dr. Hisham Shafiq al-Maskuni, his wife Shaza Malik, and his elderly mother Khairiya Dawood.

This is not an isolated tragedy. Attacks on Iraq’s Christian community have forced thousands from their homes. In particular, attacks on Christians in Baghdad have led so many to flee over the years that last summer eight churches closed their doors

A doctor who worked in the same hospital as Dr. Hisham Shafiq told ICC in tears, “I cannot believe that he passed away in such a terrible way… I once heard Hisham say how people in his neighborhood are giving him hard times because they are trying to take his house and buy it. (I think) probably the killer was trying to threaten him and when Hisham recognized who he is, the killer decided to kill him and the rest of the family.”

This is the second attack against Christians in three weeks; both occurred within the same neighborhood of Baghdad. A spokesperson for Iraq’s Interior Ministry says that the individuals responsible for the deaths of Dr. Hisham Shafiq and his family were arrested on the evening of March 10.

Father Biyos Qasha of Baghdad…

Churches should open their doors to the homeless

In an interview with Canterbury Christ Church University, Most Rev Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury said communities cannot just rely on local councils to address homelessness as they are constantly suffering from budget cuts.

He told students: “The churches should be open for this. [Deciding] which churches [should be open] is a case of which are most suitable for the occasion.

“There’s a nationwide scheme…where churches get together in groups of seven, and each church will take one night a week.”

He also said that shelter is not enough, but churches should also ensure rough sleepers are fed and are kept in a warm and safe place.

“You’ve got to meet the need in a way that gives dignity to the people you are meeting the need for, and gives them security,” he said.

Archbishop Justin’s comments come after Canterbury City suffered a recent £2 million cut in its budget.

He added that he would support opening Canterbury Cathedral to the homeless.

Rachael Denhollander Exposes Sovereign Grace Ministries’ Cover-up of Abuse

Rachael Denhollander Exposes Sovereign Grace Ministries’ Cover-up of Abuse

Rachael Denhollander, the first woman to publicly accuse the USA Gymnastics doctor of sexual abuse, is now helping uncover child sexual abuse in the Sovereign Grace Churches.

Denhollander, a 33-year-old lawyer, has been speaking about the case and calling for justice.

Her comments come after the church network Sovereign Grace Churches was sued for a “pattern of sexual and spiritual abuse” within the network. The suit said that families were ostracized for not helping cover up the abuse and policies at the network discouraged filing police reports about the abuse.

The lawsuit was eventually dismissed in 2014, but a former youth leader was then convicted in a separate case of abusing three boys.

The church network changed its name to Sovereign Grace, relocated headquarters and replaced some of its leadership.

Following the publicity Denhollander has stirred, the former president of Sovereign Grace Churches said he would not appear at a major upcoming church conference.

“Given the recent, renewed controversy surrounding Sovereign Grace Churches and me individually, I have decided to withdraw from the 2018 T4G conference,” said C.J. Mahaney in a statement, adding that “No one should interpret my withdrawal as an acknowledgment of guilt.”

Meanwhile, the church has released statements, saying Denhollander is “mistaken” and the allegations…
