Christian pro-life posters in Glasgow criticised

One parent reported on Monday that four or five posters promoting 40 Days for Life had been placed close to Our Lady of the Annunciation Primary School in the south of the city.

The Back Off campaign, which supports the right of women to terminate their pregnancies, said the leaflets “smack of desperation”.

A spokesperson told the Daily Record: “If the aim is to target the parents of young children on the basis that they will oppose abortion it is also misjudged.

“Those who campaign against abortion often do not understand that the women who have abortions are already mothers, or will often go on to have children later in life.”

The Back Off initiative is managed by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, one of the country’s largest abortion providers.

The posters encouraged people to support vigils held by 40 Days for Life and to “help save lives in Glasgow”.

Glasgow City Council told the newspaper the posters, which were fixed to lampposts along an alleyway, were unauthorised and would be removed.

Last week, 40 Days for Life demonstrators were accused by hospital bosses of being “incredibly intimidating” during a vigil outside the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

Premium All-Electric Self-Driving Sedan to Be Launched in Geneva

Facebook/VolkswagenPromotional image for ID Vizzion

Volkswagen is set to launch its ID Vizzion fully electric, self-driving luxury car at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

The car manufacturer has revealed a teaser image for the upcoming premium sedan, which looks to be a comeback version of its 2016 flagship Phaeton.

The upcoming Vizzion that stretches 201 inches from bumper to bumper would possibly be a long, low-slung sedan with a rakish roofline, based on early sketches. Its front end features thin headlights and the back-lit emblem, similar to that of other ID concepts like Buzz and Crozz.

Vizzion is the fourth introduction into the ID family, which features all-electric concepts. It will be fully autonomous and is being classed as premium.

It will have a total system power of 302 bhp, which can reach a top speed of 111 mph. Its 111 kWh lithium-ion batteries would allow it to go 413 miles on a single charge, taking into account the energy recovered from the regenerative braking system. Since it is an autonomous vehicle though, its AI should be able to minimize the energy used on brakes. Twin electric motors will power its four wheels.

With no stirring wheel, pedal, or any visible control, its spacious and clean interiors allow for four passengers to comfortably enjoy the ride, while a so-called “digital chauffeur” takes them to their destination.

Passengers can communicate with the car’s “virtual host” through voice prompt and gesture control. All the passengers’ habits are also stored so the digital assistant would know what kinds of comfort and entertainment should be offered.

The ID…

Why are Rabbits and Eggs Associated with the Christian Celebration?

REUTERS/Arnd Wiegmann/FilesGiant gold-wrapped Easter bunnies are placed in front of the plant of Switzerland’s chocolate producer Lindt & Spruengli AG in Kilchberg near Zurich March 17, 2009.

While Easter is a Christian celebration, some of the things associated with it have been a part of pagan customs that had long existed even before the holiday was first observed.

Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Christ after His crucifixion and death on Good Friday. As the holy event is based on the first Sunday after the first full moon of the spring equinox, its date changes every year. This 2018, Easter Sunday falls on the first day of April, coinciding with April Fool’s Day.

Although Easter is considered as the most important Christian holiday, as it commemorates Jesus’ victory over death, it is believed that the celebration has its pagan origins. Supposedly, while the holiday is also known as Resurrection Sunday, the name Easter is derived from the Celtic goddess Eastre, the goddess of fertility and spring. As Easter was honored by the pagans in her rabbit symbol, the animal eventually became a symbol of the Christian Easter celebrations.

The reason why Easter has some pagan elements is said to have started from the attempts of second-century…

Four suspected uses of chemical weapons in Syria this year, says Christian MP

Alistair Burt said the increasing use risked going against “a century of a united response by the world against them”.

The Commons exchanges also saw Labour backbencher John Woodcock say shadow foreign secretary Emily Thornberry was “not fit to stand at that despatch box” after she warned many foreign parties were now acting like the Assad regime.

Responding to a question from Mr Woodcock, Foreign Office minister Mr Burt said: “He is right to express concern and anger about not only the use of chemical weapons but the increasing use.

“We think there’s been, perhaps, four occasions since the turn of this year.

“And if chemical weapons come back into the norm of use in war, it goes against a century of a united response by the world against them.”

He told MPs at Foreign Office questions the Government would continue to work at the United Nations “in order to ensure that the international convention on chemical weapons once again becomes properly effective”.

Earlier, Ms Thornberry condemned Turkey for its “disgraceful assault on Afrin”, later adding: “The truth is that the Turkish assault is part of a broader pattern where too many foreign parties engaged in the Syrian civil war are now acting just like the Assad regime itself without any regard for international law.”

Labour’s Mr Woodcock (Barrow and Furness) could be heard saying: “You can’t say that.”

Ms Thornberry…

New Update to Fix Pump Shotgun Reload Time

Epic Games“Fortnite” continues to grow at an alarming rate, and the developers are getting ready to scale appropriately.

A major update is arriving to “Fortnite” later this week and will greatly affect close-quarters combat. The update, called 3.0.0, will fix the way pump shotguns work.

According to game developer Epic Games, it has received feedback from users that many players are able to exploit this weapon, which was originally designed to have a long reload time to balance out its high damage.

However, some players are able to do away with the reload time by simply switching weapons back and forth. Epic Games says this is against the layout of the survival video game and should be prevented. The upcoming patch would do just that.

In an official announcement, Epic Games noted that it takes user feedback seriously and uses them as the basis for any game development. “The Pump Shotgun’s high damage is balanced by its long reload time, and bypassing that weakness makes the weapon stronger than intended,” the gaming company wrote.

With the release of the new patch, this will no longer be allowed. “If you fire the Pump Shotgun and quickly switch weapons, the next time it’s selected it will be forced to pump before firing again,” it added. Patch 3.0.0 would only be applicable for the pump shotgun but, depending on more fan feedback, the same adjustment could also be made on other weapons.

The new update is expected to arrive less than a week after patch 2.5.0 was released for PC, Play Station 4, and Xbox One. This was another notable update that brought huge changes and additions to the…

Nuclear weapons provide illusion of security, argues senior bishop

The Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt Rev Stephen Cottrell, also questioned whether people felt safe with “Donald Trump’s finger upon the button”.

Highlighting the ban on cluster bombs, he argued the case for outlawing nuclear arsenals was even more compelling.

The bishop made his comments as peers debated the UN treaty to ban nuclear weapons, supported by 122 states last year.

The meeting in New York was boycotted by all nuclear-armed nations, including the UK.

However, former Navy chief Lord West of Spithead, who had responsibility for the UK’s submarine-based deterrent, felt the treaty was a mistake and “virtue signalling on a grand scale”.

The Lords debate on the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons came ahead of a UN high-level conference on nuclear disarmament, due to be held in May.

The bishop told peers: “The truth is that these weapons of mass destruction are also weapons of mass deception.

“They provide the illusion of security while actually making the world less secure than ever.

“North Korea now joins the nuclear club, who will be next?

“Do we really feel safe with Donald Trump’s finger upon the button?”

He added: “We all patted ourselves on the back a few years ago when we banned cluster bombs. Well the moral arguments about nuclear weapons are just as compelling if not more so.

“For to use a nuclear weapon is suicide as well as genocide.”

He urged the…

It Will Be the Lightest and Longest BMW 3

REUTERS/Michaela RehleA BMW logo is pictured before the annual news conference of German premium automaker BMW in Munich March 19, 2014.

A next-generation BMW 3 was spotted testing on the road ahead of its expected launch at the 2018 Paris Motor Show in October.

According to reports, the G20 BMW 3 series will be based on the company’s new CLAR platform, a lightweight, scalable architecture that also serves as the foundation of the BMW 7 and 5 series. This means it would be a very lightweight sedan, about 40 to 100 kilograms lighter than the F30-gen car.

Considering BMW added its latest technology onto this new car, its lightweight built is viewed as impressive.

The G20 is also expected to be the longest ever in the BMW 3 series, even though it only sports a marginal increase in the wheelbase and total length. This, along with the interior overhaul, should improve the space in the rear seats as well as the volume of the trunk.

The cabin will also sport a much different look compared to the F30 as it follows BMW’s new design language. The interior features a new color scheme, dashboard, iDrive controller, shift lever, electric parking brake, and digital gauge cluster. Its touchscreen system is positioned higher and larger for better interface.

Its chassis will be slightly configured relative to the outgoing model, and will sport a 49/51 weight distribution. Power distribution across all wheels will be supported by active steering, adaptive suspension, and mechanical torque.

The G20 will also be the first in the BMW 3 series to sport laser headlights, like the BMW i8 and BMW 7 Series. Although…

800 Christian families flee city after blasphemy claim triggers riots

Local church leader, Bishop Emmanuel Masih told World Watch Monitor – an organisation which reports on cases of Christians facing pressure for their faith – that 800 families have left Lahore since Monday when an angry mob burned tyres and partially blocked a major road.

The unrest broke out after local Christian man, Patras Masih, was accused of posting offensive material on Facebook last month.

His uncle, Arif Masih told World Watch Monitor: “People had started gathering around 7am, while I heard about what was happening around 11.30am, when things had started getting worse.

“I live only few streets away and rushed to the place where people were gathering, while Patras and his father had already fled from home.”

Relatives of the 20-year-old bank cleaner say they are unaware of what has happened to Mr Masih since they turned him in to police.

World Watch Monitor

During a press conference at the police in Shahdara district on Tuesday evening, Muslim and Christian church leaders urged families to return to the city and to live in peace with Muslim neighbours.

Police sub-inspector Haji Munir, who is leading the investigation in Mr Masih told World Watch Monitor: “Patras is still under investigation but soon will be sent to jail.”
