Late last month, internationally renowned Christian speaker and author Ken Ham of Answers in Genesis was uninvited from speaking at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO). Today, UCO President Don Betz has invited the AiG president to give his talk “Genesis and the State of the Culture” on the Edmond campus.  

Although campus activists put enormous pressure on the student body president to cancel the lecture at UCO’s Constitution Hall, President Betz has decided to restore Ham’s lecture for March 5. Joining Ham at the free 3 p.m. presentation will be Dr. Georgia Purdom from the AiG faculty; she holds a PhD in molecular genetics from Ohio State University. Dr. Purdom will speak on “Genetics and the Bible.” 

Ham declared, “I’m thrilled my talk at UCO is back on again. UCO officials have definitely heard from many concerned state legislators, several local residents, and alumni about the denial of our right to free speech.

“Furthermore, by moving my talk from the evening to the afternoon, we now have the opportunity to reach even more UCO students during the school day. UCO is a commuter campus, and many of its students might not have been able to attend in the evening.”

Joy Behar of The View is under fire for criticizing Vice President Mike Pence and comparing his Christian faith to a mental illness.

Behar and her co-hosts were discussing former White House staffer Omarosa Manigault’s comments that Pence says he talks to Jesus and believes Jesus speaks to him.

Although most Christians speak in similar language, especially when referring to the Bible, Behar and her co-hosts seemed to take Pence’s comments out of context.

“It’s one thing to talk to Jesus. It’s another thing when Jesus talks to you… that’s called mental illness,” stated Behar.

The blowpoint against Behar’s comment was swift.

Fox News conservative commentator Todd Starnes wrote an editorial decrying The View’s “religious intolerance.”

It’s “understandable that a Christophobe like Behar be dumbfounded by such a concept,” wrote Starnes.

He continued: “Well, if hearing the voice God means that a Christian is mentally insane – then add my name to that list. Because – just like Vice President Pence — I too — have heard the voice of God.”

Gearing up with pads and helmets at both the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, Team USA hockey player Gigi Marvin girded herself with her favorite Bible verse, too.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,” Proverbs 3 reads. “(I)n all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

With two Olympic silver medals, Marvin hopes her pucks will go straight, too — straight into the goal for a team gold medal.

Marvin, who is 30, remembers watching the USA women’s ice hockey team at the 1998 Nagano Olympics and dreaming about making the team.

“My parents also helped me understand at a young age that God had given me this amazing talent to play hockey,” she told FCA magazine, published by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. “It was so natural for me, and it was evident it was a gift from Him.”

Marvin played hockey for the University of Minnesota and went to both the 2010 Vancouver and 2014 Sochi games, where the Team USA women took hockey silvers. She plays forward for the team in Pyeongchang.
