A 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Canning Town, east London on Wednesday evening.

Police believe he may have been the victim of what they’re describing as a ‘sustained and possibly targeted attack’.

He’s the third teenager to die as a result of knife crime in the capital so far in 2018.

Michael Smith, CEO of the Christian group Word 4 Weapons tells Premier youngsters need scripture to stay on the straight and narrow.

In 2017, there were 80 fatal stabbings in London.

The latest killing comes as both the Mayor of London and Scotland Yard face mounting pressure to bring the city’s knife crime problem under control.

Theresa May drew an angry response from Sadiq Khan earlier this month when she suggested that the surge in deaths came after Labour took charge of the capital.

Mr Khan, who succeeded Conservative Boris Johnson to the role, wrote on Twitter: “The PM simply can’t be allowed to get away with misleading information.

“Knife crime is rising across Britain – not just London – & started going up well before May 2016. 8 years of Tory cuts to police & preventative services must urgently be reversed.”

As London Fashion Week approaches, statistics suggest the average man spends £115 a month on clothes and the average woman £81. 

The average UK adult spends over £1000 a year on clothes. 

Speaking on whether Christians should follow fashion, Simon Ward, who is a Christian and ran London Fashion Week for 30 years, told Premier: “I normally just give a quick guided tour of the Bible and say ‘look, in the beginning God created seasons’ – so don’t argue about the seasons.”

“He created infinite variety – He was the first fashion designer, He ran up leather togs for Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and so on. It goes all the way through the Bible, the sort of imagery of fashion. The first Christian in Europe was Lydia who was in the fashion industry in Phillippi so I think the idea that God and the fashion industry have nothing to do with each other ain’t right.”

But Simon Ward added that it can’t be allowed to take over: “Clearly if you’re spending the food budget just so you can get the latest pair of jeans that’s not good stewardship of your resources.”

According to religious freedom charity Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW), authorities targeted Sudanese Evangelical Presbyterian Church (SEPC) in El Haj Yousif, Khartoum North.

Witnesses reported that at least three police trucks arrived at the church without notice moments after the service had ended, and security personnel started to clear and confiscate property before demolishing the church.  Agents took items such as chairs, bibles and musical instruments. 

CSW said the SEPC in El Haj Yousif was one of 25 churches earmarked for demolition in an official order signed in June 2016, and its leaders joined a legal challenge to prevent the government from confiscating and destroying their place of worship.

 The church has stated that it is the legal owner of the property and land, and has used the building as a place of worship since 1989.

In May 2017, authorities demolished the last remaining church in the Soba Aradi district of Khartoum State, which had also been listed in the June 2016 order.

Christian Solidarity Worldwide’s Chief Executive Mervyn Thomas said it’s a deeply concerning situation.
