The US Department of Education has announced that they will not be investigating complaints brought by transgender students who claim they were not allowed to use the bathroom of their choice in public schools.

Department of Education spokeswoman Liz Hill outlined the new policy and said it will specifically apply to transgender students who complain about bathroom laws, although other transgender complaints may still be reviewed, reports TheHill.com.

“Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex, not gender identity,” said Hill.

Sarah Warbelow, the Legal Director of the Human Rights Campaign, condemned the new policy:

“The department’s failure to act conflicts with the law in multiple jurisdictions, including federal circuits, and further emboldens those who seek to discriminate against transgender students. Once again, Secretary DeVos proves she is not interested in protecting transgender students and instead is choosing to advance the dangerous Trump-Pence anti-LGBTQ agenda.”

The Trump administration has changed other transgender policies as well. They previously announced an end to the Obama administration’s guidance which stated that public school transgender students could use the bathroom that corresponded to their gender identity.

International Mission Board President David Platt said he would be stepping down from his post at the mission agency. 

Platt asked the IMB trustees to start looking for a successor. 

The search for a new president will start immediately but Platt will stay on as president until the new leader is in place.

A presidential search committee will be made up of IMB trustees selected by trustee chairman Dr. Rick Dunbar, a member of First Baptist Church Madison, Mississippi.

“I am more passionate today than I have ever been about getting the gospel to the nations, and I want to spend what little time I have left on this earth with urgency toward that end,” he said in his announcement. “This passion is what drove me to become IMB president, and I have sought to honor Him and you in this role over the last four years.”

Platt said he loves the IMB community and will always be willing to help the mission agency.

“I love this IMB family, and I want to encourage you continually with God’s Word, I want to mobilize limitless missionaries to join you, and I want to work with you overseas in any ways I can help you,” he said. “In short, I want to do anything I can to see missions succeed across and beyond the IMB and the SBC for the glory of God.”

President of the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board, David Platt, announced Monday that he intends to step down from the role as soon as the trustees of the organization find someone to replace him.

The announcement comes just four months after IMB trustees gave him permission to test a new role as teaching pastor at McLean Bible Church in Virginia while leading the organization. The trustees were expected to review the arrangement to determine if it was viable this month.

Platt explained in an announcement to IMB staff that after discussions with trustees in recent weeks, he made the decision that the arrangement wasn’t viable.

Ten days after suffering a stroke, televangelist Pat Robertson returned to TV and thanked God for turning what could have been a “crippling illness” into a “miraculous healing.”

On Monday, Robertson, the 87-year-old founder of the Christian Broadcasting Network, appeared on “The 700 Club” for the first time since suffering an embolic stroke on Feb. 2.

“I’m back,” he said. “I’m back on television!”

Robertson revealed that his daughter-in-law noticed he was having trouble speaking and keeping his balance and alerted medical professionals.

“You know, I had a stroke and I wasn’t even aware of it,” he said.

After being transferred to the hospital, the televangelist immediately received a clot-busting medication, called tissue plasminogen activator. According to CBN, within minutes of receiving tPA, Robertson was awake and responsive and able to move all of his limbs.

“It was a miracle,” he said. “It was amazing … For every minute that you have a stroke without being treated, you lose two million cells in your brain. So mine was just starting … it’s terrible.”
