When three different publishers announced last year they would all produce books about President Trump’s faith, some wags took to social media to say, wow, those are going to be short books.
But just because Trump has not made a habit of spending much time in church doesn’t mean there isn’t much to say about him and faith.
In time for Thursday’s National Prayer Breakfast (Feb. 8), two of those books are now available and the other, “The Faith of Donald J. Trump,” is available for preorder before its Feb. 13 release date. Together they offer 700 pages on the 45th president and religion — his own, his staunchest supporters’ and the role faith played in his election.

From the outset, the authors of “The Faith of Donald J. Trump: A Spiritual Biography” make clear they don’t intend to answer the question of whether Trump is a Christian or any of its evangelical variations — whether he is “born again” or “headed for heaven.” Instead, they write, they are mostly concerned with understanding and explaining the president’s worldview.

The Church of England is facing as many as 3,300 potential sex abuse cases in the form of concerns and allegations, as revealed by the Church’s lead bishop on safeguarding issues.
The Times reported on Thursday that Peter Hancock, bishop of Bath and Wells, shared the latest figures, which concern sex abuse against children and vulnerable adults reaching up to 2016, during a three-day meeting of the General Synod in London.
Hancock did not make it clear whether all the complaints are new or a combination with longstanding ones, but even if a fraction of them are upheld, the CofE might be forced into paying millions of dollars in compensation fees.
The figures he shared revealed that 18 percent of the 3,300 cases involve Church officers, most likely to be members of clergy, while others accused in the church setting include lay individuals and other churchgoers.

According to a survey published by children’s charity Place2Be, hundreds of school leaders say they have had difficulties helping their students with mental health.
The research showed that while 84 per cent of secondary schools and 56 per cent of primary schools offered some form of counselling services for students, almost half said that a lack of local services and knowing what support is appropriate hindered their provision of support.
Christian secondary school teacher from London, Ekaete Olowu, said schools need to work harder on the issue.
She told Premier News Hour: “It’s part of your job as an educator to care for the entire wellbeing of a child. It’s not just the academic subject you’re teaching them.
“We need to do it on a holistic level. Especially because [children] spend so much time at school, we can often become almost parent number two if not the main adult they go to if they have an issue.”
Nine in ten respondents reported that funding issues limited the provision of mental health support at their schools. Mental health services are funded by 93 per cent of schools who responded to the survey.
Olowu said a lack of time is also a factor for teachers.
“Unless you have a genuine care to want to help that child, if can be difficult if somebody comes to you and you’ve got lessons to plan and you’ve got books to mark,” she said.

Retail chain Target has already been widely criticized for its transgender bathroom policy, but now Walgreens stores are following in Target’s footsteps.
The Christian Post reports that Walgreens is now allowing individuals to use the restroom that corresponds to their gender identity instead of with their biological sex.
“All individuals have a right to use restroom facilities that correspond to the individual’s gender identity, regardless of the individual’s sex assigned at birth,” states the new directive.
“Walgreens family of companies subscribes to a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression/presentation,” it continues.
The new policy was put into practice after an incident occurred last summer in which a woman who was dressed like a man was told she had to use the men’s restroom. The woman, who does not identify as transgender, complained about the incident and said she was humiliated by it.
Walgreens has been ranked as one of the most LGBT-friendly places to work.
Although the policy has been praised by the ACLU and LGBT rights groups, others have expressed concern that the policy may increase incidents of assault and harassment by men who may abuse it.

The United States is experiencing an increase in influenza infections this winter compared with recent years, leading many churches and dioceses to take extra precautions amid reports of hundreds of Americans dying of flu-related complications, including more than 50 children.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta has estimated that nearly 15,000 people have been hospitalized since October, which is double the number last flu season.
Congregations across the denominational spectrum are giving advice and warnings to their members and are even changing certain aspects of their rituals and ceremonies.

US officials reported that El Shafee Elsheikh was thought to be part of the terrorist organisation’s brutal executions gang known as “the Beatles”.
Fellow cell member Alexanda Kotey was also captured with Elsheikh last month.
Their capture was first reported by the New York Times, who reported that American officials had wanted to keep the news secret.
Along with Mohammed Emwazi – the killer nicknamed Jihadi John – and Aine Davis, they are thought to have been part of the group named after the famous ’60s band because of their English accents.
The four Londoners were linked to a string of hostage murders in Iraq and Syria during the bloody Islamist uprising.
Bethany Haines, whose father David was killed in 2014 after being held captive for 18 months, said she hoped the pair’s detention could bring some closure for relatives of those murdered.
She told ITV’s Good Morning Britain: “I got a call late last night to say that they had been captured and the first thought was relief, finally to know that the people that were involved in my dad’s murder have been caught and will sort of serve some justice.”
Asked what she would like to see happen now, she replied: “In my opinion, they shouldn’t be breathing but that’s not really a realistic kind of expectation. I think that they should be locked up with the key thrown away and never to be released.”

A recently released documentary, titled “The God Who Speaks,” seeks to fill a void on apologetics movies, according to its director.
Released by the conservative group the American Family Association’s American Family Studios on Feb. 1, “The God Who Speaks” interviews several scholars and apologists arguing in favor of the trustworthiness of the Bible.
M.D. Perkins, the director who also co-produced the project, told The Christian Post on Thursday that he believed his film was one of the few examples of an evangelical apologetics documentary on this issue.
“It’s distinct in that it’s a documentary. It’s a visual film. I really haven’t seen any films, any film documentaries that have tried to tackle this topic particularly from the evangelical Christian point of view,” explained Perkins.
