Pastor and 3 others stabbed at Texas home church service

Police were called to the residence in Corpus Christi on Wednesday evening and found the pastor with a chest wound.

Lt Jay Clement told local reporters that a band member was stabbed in the neck and two other people were injured trying to get the suspect away from the pastor.

The pastor and band member have been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

While it is not clear what the motive behind the attack was, Clement told The Corpus Christi Caller-Times that a witness said the suspect – who has been arrested, was a parishioner.

The group had been meeting at the home each day as part of a “40-day pledge”.

How God Delivered John Bevere From His Pornography Addiction

Before he ever became a Christian, John Bevere struggled with an addiction to pornography. When he began following Jesus, he thought it would go away—but it didn’t. He even tried getting a respected preacher to pray the addiction away, but that too failed. For years, Bevere grieved his sin but couldn’t get free. Then God showed him he’d been grieving for the wrong reasons. He shares his testimony in this video.

Gloria Copeland: Jesus “redeemed us from the curse of the flu”

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland are two of the most visible televangelists in the world. They served on Donald Trump’s campaign advisory board; according to their website, they have offices in the US, Canada, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Ukraine, and Latin America.

They are back in the news today because of a video Gloria posted to Facebook last week. After praying for people with the flu, she said:

“Jesus himself gave us the flu shot. He redeemed us from the curse of flu. And we receive it and we take it and we are healed by his stripes. Amen? You know the Bible says he himself bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases and by his stripes we were healed. When we were healed we are healed. So get on the word, stay on the word, and if you say, ‘Well, I don’t have any symptoms of the flu,’ well great, that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Just keep saying that: ‘I’ll never have the flu. I’ll never have the flu.’ Put words. Inoculate yourself with the word of God.”

ABC News headlined, “Trump adviser says ignore flu shots and ‘inoculate yourself with the word of God.’” Newsweek characterized her statement: “Trump’s evangelical adviser says Jesus invented the flu shot and will stop you from getting sick.”

To be fair, Gloria Copeland never stated specifically in the video that we should ignore flu shots. And she certainly didn’t claim that Jesus “invented the flu shot” in a medical sense. But she did encourage viewers to “keep saying that I’ll never have the flu,” claiming that “by [Jesus’] stripes we were healed.”

What the Bible means by what it says

I am typically reticent to criticize fellow Christians in public. Jesus taught us that “all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). The culture lambasts believers so disparagingly these days that we need to encourage and support each other when we can.

My response to Gloria Copeland’s video is…

Kanye West’s Pentecostal Pastor Beautifully Tells Church Why It Matters to Befriend Sinners

Rich Wilkerson Jr. is the pastor of VOUS Church in Miami, Florida, but many know him best as the pastor who married Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Some have used that as a smear against him. But Wilkerson believes befriending the lost—even if they never change—is a massive part of Christ’s call for every believer. He explains why in this moving video.

Justin Welby rebukes Trump’s criticism of NHS

Mr Trump’s recent Twitter outburst against the British health system described it as “going broke and not working”.

Defending the NHS and its “challenges”, Archbishop Justin tweeted: “Public health is a universal good.

“Its absence is a danger to all. Whatever its challenges, the NHS is an expression of our deep concern for the common good and the solidarity of society.

“It reflects God’s love and care for the sick. Like millions, I thank God for the NHS.”

On Tuesday, Downing Street backed Health and Social Care Secretary Jeremy Hunt in an extraordinary Twitter row with the president.

Downing Street said the Prime Minister was “proud” of the NHS and its funding was “at a record high”.

PA

Mr Hunt hit back by attacking the US system which leaves millions without adequate health cover.

The US president said “thousands of people are marching” in the UK because of concerns about the state of the NHS.

Mr Trump made the attack as he targeted Democrats pushing for a…

SpaceX Falcon Heavy Successfully Launches, Tesla Car Overshoots Mars Orbit

SpaceXFalcon Heavy’s liftoff from the Kennedy Space Station in Florida

On Feb. 6, Tuesday, Elon Musk’s SpaceX successfully launched Falcon Heavy megarocket after being delayed for four years. It came with a red Tesla roadster that provided a surreal footage of space, although it overshot its destination — Mars’ orbit.

After a lot of preparation for the launch, Musk still could not help but be surprised that it actually happened, with only a couple of minor hiccups.

Talking to reporters after the successful launch, the 46-year-old business magnate revealed that he did not really believe it would work out this time. “Crazy things can come true,” he said. “When I see the rocket lift up, I see a thousand things that could not work, and it’s amazing when they do.”

Musk explained that he has seen rockets blow up for so many reasons, and has imagined the same for his Falcon Heavy, before it even left the pad at Kennedy Space Center. “But fortunately, that’s not what happened,” he told reporters.

The first stage of the launch went exactly as planned. The two Falcon 9 side boosters detached and landed smoothly back on Earth after successfully boosting the middle rocket into orbit. The center “core” booster, however, was not able to land on its drone ship. Falling at 300 miles per hour, it took out two of the drone ship’s engines and hit the water instead.

“That sounds like some pretty fun footage, so if the cameras didn’t get blown up as well, then we’ll put that out for a blooper reel,” Musk joked.

People down on Earth got a special treat from Starman, the mannequin that flew with the red Tesla…

Vue Cinemas pulls curtain down on Christian ex-gay film premiere

Producers who hired a theatre at the Vue cinema on Piccadilly tonight have been informed by bosses the event is being scrapped over fears it contradicts their “values”.

Six hundred people signed a petition urging the cinema chain to cancel the private showing of ‘Voices of the Silenced’, which 125 guests had been due to attend.

The gay news website PinkNews accused the Core Issues Trust, the group which made the film, of advocating for a “gay ‘cure'”.

Dr Mike Davidson from the Trust told Premier: “We are not saying that folk identify as gay are sick.

“What we are about are the rights and freedoms that people need to have respected when they want to move out of unwanted homosexual or other sexual practises – and that’s what the film does.”

Core Issues Trust

‘Voices of the Silenced: Experts, Evidences and Ideologies’ features the testimonies of15 people from eight countries who have moved away from homosexual activity.

The Christian Legal Centre, which is supporting the Core Issues Trust’s screening, says it is considering filing an injunction at the High Court, as well as taking action against Vue Cinemas under the 2010 Equality Act.

CEO, Andrea Minichiello Williams said: “Ironically, the actions of PinkNews and Vue cinema illustrate the point of the film. The Voices of the Silenced are, in fact, being silenced.”

Nine Reasons I’m Hopeful for Church Revitalization and Replanting in North America

SUBSCRIBE TODAY: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play

A church revitalization movement is sweeping across North America, and I’m encouraged about the hopeful direction in which many churches are moving. Today we cover nine reasons for this encouragement.

Today’s Listener Question:

FROM ARTHUR

Jonathan sometimes jokingly refers to you as the Church Mortician, but you also often call yourself an obnoxious optimist. So let’s hear about some of the positivity. What about church revitalization and replanting gives you hope for the future of the church in North America?

Episode Highlights:

  • Perfunctory and routine prayer is not a good example of corporate prayer.
  • The more we get into routines in the church, the less we focus outward.
  • A church about me, myself, and I is not really a church at all.
  • Until there is a rekindling of evangelism, there will be a dearth of healthy churches.
  • Good theology results in works and obedience.

The nine reasons I’m hopeful are:

  1. A new wave of corporate prayer.
  2. A rekindling of evangelism.
  3. A balance between theological and practical.
  4. The waning of worship wars.
  5. A heightened emphasis on church revitalization.
  6. A surge of re-birthed churches.
  7. A renewal of meaningful membership.
  8. A concerted focus on impacting the community.
  9. Balanced views of numbers.

Resources mentioned in this episode include:

Revitalize & Replant is sponsored by the North American Mission Board and ChurchReplanters.com. More than 10% of churches in North America are at…
