People with Acne More Prone to Depression, Study Reveals

Reuters/File PhotoAccording to a recent study, people with acne are more prone to depression.

While acne is a beauty problem, a new research has revealed that people with the skin condition are also at a higher risk for depression, especially during the first year after it appears.

The correlation between acne and depression has been revealed by a research that monitored 134,427 men and women with acne and 1,731,608 without the condition. Though most of those involved in the study were between the ages of 7 and 50 at the onset, most were below the age of 19.

Most of the people with acne that were involved in the study were females, younger, non-smokers and of higher socioeconomic status, who were less likely to be alcohol drinkers or be obese.

After monitoring the subjects for 15 years, it was revealed that 18.5 percent of those with acne are at a risk of developing major depression while 12 percent of those without acne are at a risk to the mental health issue.

The research, which was published in British Journal of Dermatology, has also revealed that the increased risk for depression continued for the first five years since the first diagnosis. However, the risk was at its highest during the first year, with a record of 63 percent increased risk of depression among people with acne.

Despite the results of the 15-year study, though, scientists have yet to establish a reason for the connection.

“It appears that acne is a lot more than just skin deep. It can have a substantial impact on overall mental health,” said Isabelle A. Vallerand, lead author of the study and an epidemiologist at the…

No, El Shaddai Does Not Mean ‘God With Breasts’ .

(Unsplash/IV Horton)

As LifeSite News reported, earlier this month, “The Episcopal church in the Diocese of Washington, D.C., passed a resolution … to stop using masculine pronouns for God in future updates to its Book of Common Prayer.

“The resolution to stop using ‘gendered language for God’ was passed quickly by delegates to the Diocese’s 123rd Convention.”

To be sure, this is not the first group to move in the direction of “gender-inclusive” language when it comes to the deity.

Christian charity celebrates release of almost 300 child soldiers

Mark Nonkes from World Vision attended the ceremony where the children were set free and said it’s the largest release of child soldiers ever in the country.

He told Premier: “That moment was just absolute jubilation. The children were excited, their families were excited, and the community was excited. Everyone was very happy that these children were released from their duties in the armed fighting.”

The charity said although the release is a major victory, many of the children have been active in fighting, and some have experienced sexual and gender-based violence.

“They’ve been through literal hell,” Nonkes said.

“We’ve talked to children who have been forced to shoot family members. We’ve talked to children who have been sexually assaulted. Almost all of them were abducted, some at school, some on their way to a garden. They’ve witnessed the worst humanity has.”

World Vision

Fifteen-year-old Victor is among the children released. He was abducted and forced to be an informant for an armed group for more than a year.

“They told me to go near the road and if I heard the sound of a car coming, I went and reported it,” he explained. “Then they would come and take the car. They would shoot at it [and] they would burn it. The people inside the cars would sometimes escape and run. Other times they would be killed.”

Apple’s Flagship Macbook May Debut This March

Reuters/Beck DiefenbachA guest points to a MacBook Pro during an Apple media event in Cupertino, California, U.S.

The Macbook Pro 2018, Apple’s most powerful laptop to date could debut this coming March bringing a whole new world of innovation straight from Cupertino. That being said, it definitely has a lot to live up to given the company’s reputation as well as expectations by fans.

Considering the rumors that the next generation of Macs will feature even more custom processors than their predecessors alongside the recent improvements to the MacOS, the Apple flagship laptop could certainly meet professional demands and expectations.

Add to that the length of time Apple had to improve this particular product line, and the prospect of the end-product impressing fans becomes a near absolute possibility. So what can fans expect from the platform this time?

To start with, there’s not much information regarding the Macbook Pro 2018 at the moment, particularly its hardware. Still, fans can probably expect Apple to double down on its co-processor strategy this year.

Fans can also expect a longer battery life, something that the 2016 iteration wasn’t able to offer. This power boost can also be expected to spread across all models thanks to the arrival of Intel processors with AMD graphics onboard.

The new model will most likely include more ports after the less-than-warm reaction to the decision to move to solely Thunderbolt 3 ports. Fans can probably expect a new version of Apple’s MagSafe power adaptor to be added being one of the features that received an overwhelmingly positive reception…

Prime Minister questioned over worldwide Christian persecution

Michelle Donelan, MP for Chippenham, asked the Prime Minister if part of the international aid budget should be earmarked for Christians suffering persecution.

Speaking during Premier Minister’s Questions about the ‘horrific persecution’ many Christians face, she said: “We need to take action and send a signal to other nations.”

The Prime Minister answered: “We are working with governments, the international community and the United Nations to support the rights of minorities and to ensure our aid does reach those in need. But we will of course further explore what more support we can give to ‘knock’ the persecution of religious minorities.”

Theresa May also spoke of a meeting she had recently had with an Iraqi Christian leader: “I was pleased, a matter of weeks ago, to meet Father Daniel from Nineveh who talked about the very real persecution that his congregation were suffering and had suffered in the past.

“He presented me with a Bible which was burnt, which had been rescued, when a church had been set on fire.”

The exchange in PMQs comes after the publication of the World Watch List – an in-depth report, which ranks the 50 countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

The data from the report comes from information provided by Open Doors and independent experts.

Bitcoin Prices Surge After Reports Suggest Cryptocurrency Market Cap Could Hit $1 Trillion This Year

REUTERS/Benoit Tessier/IllustrationA Bitcoin (virtual currency) coin is seen in an illustration picture taken at La Maison du Bitcoin in Paris, France, June 23, 2017.

After losing more than half its value since November, Bitcoin has shown signs of life. The cryptocurrency has risen 6.2 percent reaching $8,176 on Wednesday after falling as low as $5,920 at one point on Tuesday.

The rise in value can be attributed to the recent reports that the cryptocurrency market cap could hit $1 trillion this year. After being battered by a bear market, this bit of positive news was likely enough to spur investor confidence in digital currencies once more.

Among the major beneficiaries of this hypothetical rise is, of course, Bitcoin. Experts project that the top cryptocurrency by market capitalization could reach a value of $50,000 in 2018.

“Increasing regulatory recognition of cryptocurrency exchanges, the entrance of institutional capital and major technology developments will contribute to the market’s rebound and push cryptocurrency prices to all new highs this year,” Thomas Glucksmann, head of APAC business development at cryptocurrency exchange Gatecoin, told CNBC by email on Tuesday. “There is no reason why we couldn’t see bitcoin pushing $50,000 by December.”

Among the technology Glucksmann mentioned in his statement is the so-called Lightning Network used by Bitcoin. The network’s main function is to boost the very slow transaction speeds using the cryptocurrency which has been the reason for many merchants to drop it as a mode of payment.

The release of another cryptocurrency-backed…

televangelist suggests Christians avoid flu jab and ‘inoculate yourself with the word of God’

Gloria Copeland runs a charismatic ministry with her husband Kenneth Copeland in America and released a video online where she told her viewers that Jesus bore all our sufferings on the cross.

In the video she said: “Listen partner, we don’t have a flu season… we’ve already had our shot, he bore our sicknesses and carried our diseases.

“By his stripes we were healed.”

She then went on to pray for people who already have symptoms of the flu: “Jesus himself gave us the flu shot – he redeemed us from the curse of flu,” she added.

Copeland also said that if her viewers tell themselves they won’t get the flu, they won’t get it.

“Just keep saying that ‘I’ll never have the flu’… inoculate yourself with the word of God.”

53 children in the US have died from the flu as of the end of January and 80 per cent of those children hadn’t had a flu jab according to the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.

Gloria Copeland has been a religious advisor to president Donald Trump but Politico reported that Johnnie Moore, the unofficial spokesman for Trump’s evangelical advisory council, said the council did not support Copeland’s position.

“We don’t agree with that statement,” he said. “I don’t know a single person in the White House who would agree with that.”

Google to Launch Next Smartphone in October

REUTERS/Stephen Lam/File PhotoGoogle’s Pixel 2 phone is displayed during a launch event in San Francisco, California, U.S. on October 4, 2017.

While the Google Pixel 2 was only dropped in the market late last year, there are now several speculations on its successor, the Google Pixel 3. Apart from the rumors claiming that the next Pixel phone will come in three variants, it is also speculated that the upcoming smartphone will be released in October this year.

Observers can’t help but point out that Google has been consistent with the release dates of its Pixel phones. To recall, the first ever Pixel phone was launched on Oct. 4, 2016 and dropped in the market 21 days later. The Pixel 2, on the other hand, was revealed on Oct. 4, 2017, and hit the store shelves on October 29. Because of the said dates, pundits now believe that Pixel 3 will be revealed on October 4 this year as well, and its actual release in the market can be expected within the same month, too.

Meanwhile, apart from the speculations on the release date of Pixel 3, rumors claiming that the upcoming smartphone from Google will come in three variants have been loud as well. Allegedly, the variants will be set apart from one another in terms of their performance and price, with the first variant to mirror the Nexus handsets and become the brand’s lowest priced handset.

The second variant, on the other hand, is said to be Google’s version of Apple’s current top-tier phone, the iPhone X. Hence, this Pixel 3 variant is suspected to boast similar features to those of the iPhone X, including a bezel-less display and a facial…
