Gay Olympian: Mike Pence is a ‘Bad Fit’ to Represent U.S. in South Korea

Gus Kenworthy, an openly gay freeskier representing the U.S. in the Winter Olympics, says that Vice President Mike Pence is a “bad fit” to lead the U.S. delegation to South Korea later this month.

“(Pence) seems like such a strange choice,” he told Ellen DeGeneres on her show.

“To have somebody leading the delegation that’s directly attacked the LGBTQ community, and a Cabinet in general that just sorts of stands against us and has tried to do things to set us back, it just seems like a bad fit,” he added.

The Trump administration has been criticized for what the LGBTQ community calls “anti-LGBTQ policies.” Trump has tried to block transgender people from enlisting in the military, and the Justice Department reversed a policy that protected transgender employees.

Pence, the former governor of Indiana, signed a religious freedom law while in the governor’s office that the LGBTQ community criticized. As a congressman, he supported a constitutional amendment that defined marriage has between a man and a woman.

“I feel like the Olympics is all about inclusion and people coming together, and it seems like it’s not really doing that,” Kenworthy said.

Kenworthy is the second U.S. Olympian to criticize Pence. Earlier this year, openly gay figure skater Adam Rippon said he would not go to the White House if he were invited.

He said Pence…

People Want Pastor’s Family Dead, Church Burned Down for Inviting Teen Girls to Discuss Gay Thoughts

(Screenshot: YouTube/We Are Metro)Pastor Jeremy Schossau of Metro City Church in Michigan talks about the backlash against his church on February 5, 2018.

A Michigan pastor whose church recently invited teen girls for a discussion over LGBT thoughts has said that the backlash has hit extreme levels, with online users threatening to kill his family and burn his church down.

Metro City Church, a non-denominational independent Christian church, directed The Christian Post to a YouTube video published by head Pastor Jeremy Schossau on Monday, where he reacts to the accusations that his ministry is trying to force teenagers into “conversion therapy.”

Schossau says in the video that the church has been targeted by “unbelievable hate, vulgarity; filled with stuff that I just can’t understand or believe.”

The pastor said that people have “threatened to kill me and my family, to burn my house down, burn our church down,” describing the developments as “absolutely crazy.”

The controversy stems from Metro City Church announcing earlier this month in a now-deleted Facebook post that it will be hosting an Unashamed Identity Workshop, made for “girls only (by birth), 12-16 years old, for those struggling with the thoughts that they are trans, bi, gay or other. It doesn’t have to be…

Open Heavens 8th February 2018: Thursday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye — Now That You Are Saved II

Open Heavens 8th February 2018: Thursday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye — Now That You Are Saved II

Topic: Now That You Are Saved II [Open Heavens 8 Thursday February 2018]

Memorise: “And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”Colossians 3:10

Read: Colossians 1:7-10 (KJV)

7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.

8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

Bible in One Year: Exodus 33-34, Romans 11:25-12:8

MESSAGE

Yesterday we started reflecting on what we need to do after we are saved (2 Peter 1:5-8). We looked at adding virtue to our faith because faith without virtue is incomplete. We saw virtue as the practical demonstration of our faith. Today we want to look at knowledge as an accompaniment of virtue. Do you know that knowledge is the companion of virtue, and that without knowledge virtue can become misguided? This is the reason why Romans 14:16 says,

“Let not then your good be evil spoken of:”

How can your virtuous act become evil in the sight of God and men? When you fail to add knowledge to your virtue, you will not be guiltless in the presence of your observers. For example, although it is virtuous to be of help to your neighbor, particularly those of the household of faith, stealing to help a brother or sister who is in need is “assistance” without knowledge. In like manner, “helping” a woman become pregnant because her husband has low sperm count is misplaced “help” that will lead to hell fire.

In addition, we must make temperance a necessary companion of our faith and knowledge. Temperance is simply defined as restraint or self-control. Why should temperance be added to knowledge before it can be profitable? The number one reason is that the exercise of knowledge without restraint may lead to an abuse of the faith and be a cause for others to stumble. Speaking about this in 1 Corinthians 8:10-12, the Holy Spirit says,

“10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol’s temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; 11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.”

When we exercise knowledge in such a way that the weak in spirit are discouraged and backslide, such knowledge is destructive. It was the application of temperance that prevented the Lord Jesus Christ from calling down fire upon those who resisted His entering into their village, after two of His disciples suggested it and even though He knew He could do so (Luke 9:51-56). May the Lord add to your faith, the necessary virtue, knowledge and temperance in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, please cause me to grow in grace, knowledge and self-restraint for profitable Christian living in Jesus’ Name.

Hymn 15: Nearer My God To Thee.

Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee;
E’ en though it be a cross
That raiseth me,
Still all my song shall be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee.

2. Though, like a wanderer
The sun gone down,
Darkness comes over me,
My rest a stone;
Yet in my dreams I’d be
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee.

3. There let me see the sight,
An open heaven;
All that thou sendest me,
In mercy given;
Angles to beckon me
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer, my God, to Thee
Nearer to Thee

4. Then, with my walking thoughts
Bright with Thy praise,
Out of my stony griefs
Bethel I’ll raise,
So by my woes to be
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee

Flatimes’ Notice Board: Please do not prolong your salvation if you have not repented. Many are going home daily and tomorrow maybe too late.

Rachael Denhollander Accuses Sovereign Grace Ministries of Covering Up Sexual Assault Claims

Rachael Denhollander Accuses Sovereign Grace Ministries of Covering Up Sexual Assault Claims

Former U.S. gymnast Rachael Denhollander has accused Sovereign Grace Ministries (SGM) of covering up accusations of sexual abuse by U.S. Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.

As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported, Denhollander gave a nearly 40-minute long testimony in court against Nassar. Although she presented him with the Gospel and extended forgiveness, she also called on Judge Rosemarie Aquilina to give him justice for his crimes.

Nassar was sentenced to between 40 and 175 years in prison. But Denhollander’s brave stand for the truth didn’t end in that courtroom, just like it didn’t begin there.

In her testimony, she made reference to the cost of speaking about the abuse she suffered. She noted that it put strain on her relationship with her church and other Christian people. Now, she has spoken out against Sovereign Grace Ministries and its former leader C. J. Mahaney.

“Rather than engaging with the mountains of evidence that I brought, because this situation was one of the most well-documented cases of institutional cover-up I have ever seen, ever, there was a complete refusal to engage with the evidence,” Denhollander told Christianity Today.

She further alleged that a lawsuit against SGM was dismissed not because there wasn’t evidence for its claims but because the statute of limitations had passed.

In response to…

Church Investors threaten businesses over lack of female board members

The Church Investors Group (CIG), which is made up of 61 members including the pension fund for the Church of England and the Methodist Church, warned they would vote against board nominations where women account for less than 33 per cent of board members in the forthcoming annual meeting season.

Representative Stephen Beer, chief investment officer at the Central Finance Board of the Methodist Church, told Premier why the group was making threats.

“It’s the right thing to do because for individuals…made equally in the sight of God, with equal worth – it’s right that they have the same opportunities,” he said.

The church group isn’t the only organisation which has turned its attention towards improving gender diversity.

Tesco, which the group’s members have invested in, is facing the UK’s largest ever equal pay claim – with a bill potentially running to £4bn.

The supermarket giant is being taken to court by a group of mostly female shop assistants who have claimed male warehouse workers are earning more for doing a similar job.

However, Tesco on Wednesday insisted its wages are fair and said it works hard to ensure all staff are paid “fairly and equally”.

Reflecting on The Church of England ordaining its first ever female bishop in 2015, Beer said its important for churches to also promote gender equality.

“Whatever…

Alleged Microsoft Mobile Device to Have Three Screen Modes

REUTERS/Morris Mac Matzen/FilesA Microsoft representative shows a smartphone with Windows 10 operating system at the CeBIT trade fair in Hanover in this file photo from March 15, 2015. Rumors claim that the next mobile device from Microsoft is the Surface Phone.

The long-rumored Surface Phone may boast of three modes as far as its supposed foldable screen is concerned.

Rumors about the Surface Phone have been around for more than two years now, but Microsoft has yet to officially confirm its existence. While many thought that the mythical device is nothing more than just a figment of the imagination, especially after it was reported that the Redmond-based tech giant would cease its Windows Phone, the leak of the latest patent Microsoft has filed for and has been awarded has bolstered the beliefs of the many that the Surface Phone may be real after all.

While the latest leaked patent application once again shows that the still to be officially revealed device will be a foldable one, which is nothing new as this was reported more than a year ago based on another leaked patent, it has revealed one new feature: The live hinge that will make the device appear seamless even if its two screens are unfolded.

Because of the live hinge feature, the Surface Phone will have three modes as far as its two screens are concerned: Close, with none of its screens exposed; 180 degrees with both of its screens open and functioning; and third, 360 degrees open with one screen on each side of the device.

“Mobile phone displays have increased in size to the point where they can now consume almost an entire front…

Intimate New Worship Song Highlights Romans 8 Truth

Cory Asbury wants to remind Christians of God’s unfailing love. His new song, “You Won’t Let Go,” is a simple but powerful reminder of Romans 8:38-39: “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, neither angels nor principalities nor powers, neither things present nor things to come, neither height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

What is Ash Wednesday and Why Faithfuls Observe It?

REUTERS/Pepe MarinA local resident, playing the role of Jesus Christ, carries his cross during a Via Crucis representation on Good Friday in Cuevas del Campo, Spain.

While lovers are looking forward to celebrating Valentine’s Day on February 14, Christians, especially devout Catholics, will be observing the first day of the Lenten season that day, Ash Wednesday.

Ash Wednesday marks the first day of the Lenten season. As the season is based on the date of the Easter, which, on the other hand, is based on or around the time of the first moon of vernal equinox (first day of Spring), the date of Ash Wednesday and other important dates of the Lenten season change every year. Hence, this year, Ash Wednesday will be observed on February 14 while it fell on March 1 last year.

According to Biblical scholar and Priest Lauren F. Winner, the observance of Ash Wednesday began in the 11th Century. The day is an important part of the Christian calendar as it signals the beginning of the season of fasting, repentance, prayer, and self-control, the Lenten Season.

“You see that in the book Daniel in the nine chapter there’s a line about associating fasting with ashes, so ashes are associated with penance, which is the dominant theme of Lent,” Winner said.

While many Christians observe…
