Topic: The Cleansing Power of Christ [Billy Graham’s Daily Tuesday February 6th, 2018]

For if the blood of bulls and of goats . . . sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh; how much more shall the blood of Christ, . . . purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? — Hebrews 9:13,14

To have a guilty conscience is an experience. Psychologists may define it as a guilt complex and may seek to rationalize away the sense of guilt; but once this has been awakened through the application of the law of God, no explanation will quiet the insistent voice of conscience.

Many a criminal has finally given himself over to the authorities because the accusations of a guilty conscience were worse than prison bars. The Bible teaches that Christ cleanses the conscience. To have a guilty conscience cleansed and to be free from its constant accusation is an experience, but it is not the cleansing of the conscience that saves you; it is faith in Christ that saves, and a cleansed conscience is the result of having come into the right relationship with God.

Prayer for the day: I stand in awe of the magnitude of Your forgiveness, Father.

Kentucky Congregation Votes Unanimously to Dismiss Pastor Accused of Financial Abuse

After months of internal squabbling and court battles, members of the Southern Acres Christian Church in Lexington, Kentucky, unanimously voted to remove their leader, Pastor Cameron McDonald, who has been accused of financial impropriety and abuse of power.

Southern Acres member Chance Staley, who was at one point blocked from attending his own church for speaking out against the abuse, told the Herald Leader that nearly 200 members of the church voted in agreement to give McDonald the boot.

A WKYT report said the members who voted to remove McDonald on Sunday, however, were “disfellowshipped” by the pastor and their resolution has no legal authority to make him step down.

Staley insisted that the will of the congregation will stand.

“The people have spoken,” he said. “Democracy has really gotten to play out here. I think it’s a very important lesson that you have to stand up to injustice.”

The vote came after two Southern Acres Christian Church members alleged in a lawsuit last November that McDonald mismanaged church funds. Concerned church members James Keogh and Chad Martin filed the lawsuit to prevent McDonald and his wife, Erica, from spending…

Ronnie Gorton, Pastor of The Awakening Church, Becomes Suicidal After Rape Accusations

Ronnie Gorton, a married father and lead pastor of The Awakening Church in Atoka, Tennessee, has been taken in for a psychiatric evaluation after he allegedly threatened to take his life over accusations that he raped two underage boys.

Tipton County investigators told WMCActionNews5 that a 17-year-old boy came forward last week to allege that Gorton, 39, who has been married to his wife Rhonda for 15 years, sexually assaulted, molested, and raped him on multiple occasions. The Atoka Police Department also reported receiving a similar charge from a 20-year-old man who alleged that Gorton sexually assaulted him when he was underage.

Tipton County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Billy Daugherty told The Leader that the latest instance of alleged assault by the preacher took place on Jan. 31 and the case is a multijurisdictional investigation.

“There’s an allegation in the county and an allegation in Atoka,” Daugherty said. “But there’s nothing to indicate anything took place at the church.”

Elon Musk Sells $10 Million Worth Of Flamethrowers in Four Days

The Boring CompanyThe Boring Company has sold all 20,000 units of its “World’s safest flamethrower.”

One man can only take a joke so far unless, of course, that man is Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. The billionaire entrepreneur’s venture, The Boring Company, recently sold $10 million worth of flamethrowers in four days as part of a marketing stunt to sell more hats. Yes, it’s that weird.

“Guaranteed to liven up any party!” was Musk’s tagline for the sale which raised millions for his for his high-speed tunnel boring venture. While initially treated as a joke, a post of Musk showcasing the flamethrower kicked-off a massive buying frenzy as customers began pre-ordering the product.

Musk started the marketing stunt to sell 50,000 Boring Company hats. However, it appears that people were more interested in quirky weapons than simple hats. Musk was quick to bank on the silliness of the product saying that the product was “sentient,” its safe word is “cryptocurrency,” and it “comes with a free blockchain.”

“When the zombie apocalypse happens, you’ll be glad you bought a flamethrower,” he tweeted last Saturday. “Works against hordes of the undead or your money back!”

The flamethrower is set to be delivered this spring and comes with a free fire extinguisher. However, buyers also need to agree to certain conditions to conform to regulations set by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This interested in getting their own flamethrowers can still pre-order it at The Boring Company’s official website for $500.

    NFL Star Benjamin Watson and ethicist Russell Moore have spoken out about the “hopelessness” and “exhaustion” that black and white Christians sometimes seem to be experiencing in the struggle to improve race relations in America.

    Speaking in a video for the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, the Baltimore Ravens tight end said America is “at a very pivotal point in our culture,” with race being brought to the forefront over the last several years.

    “As believers, as Americans, as people who care about our brothers and sisters, it’s important to engage with each other from a biblical perspective,” Watson said, calling for “honest and intentional conversations on an issue that may be hard to talk about sometimes.”

    Moore, who is ERLC president, said, “One of the things I’ve noticed is sometimes when I’m talking to black Christians, and white Christians, anybody, is that sometimes there is a sense of hopelessness or exhaustion,” with people asking themselves “is there really any way where we can move forward?”

    Elon Musk To Give Batteries To Thousands Of Homes in South Australia

    Elon Musk’s mission to fix South Australia’s energy crisis is far from over as Tesla is set to give away batteries and solar panels to thousands of homes in the state. This is all thanks to a new power policy being pushed by the state’s Labor Party spearheaded by Premier Jay Weatherill.

    Weatherhill, with the help of Musk, has promised to give “free” solar panels and Tesla batteries to 50,000 homes in the state. The Labor premiere unveiled the deal last week which he expects will secure the party’s victory in the March state elections.

    Of course, the project isn’t going to be absolutely free and be paid with a $2 million taxpayer-funded grant and $30 million loans to Tesla. The power generated by the solar panels and the batteries will also not be owned directly by the households but may be sold back to them via a retailer.

    Tesla hopes to accomplish this via what it calls a virtual power plant or VPP. It works pretty much like a peer-to-peer system where the idea is that by sharing surplus energy produced by rooftop solar panels when not being used, all consumers can benefit. This is all part of Musk’s grand plan to power the world through solar power and batteries.

    The key to creating such an innovative system are smart meters and other clever technology that can determine which homes are producing surplus and where that excess power can be stored or consumed. The scheme will see each participating South Australian home equipped with a 5kw solar system paired with a 5kw/15kwh Tesla Powerwall 2 battery.
