    5 Trump Cabinet Members and Their Christian Faith

    President Donald Trump’s cabinet has been a bit rocky lately, what with recent hirings and firings, but several of those who have stayed with the administration are people of faith.

    Of these cabinet members, some are supported or opposed by different faith groups; others have made public statements or taken actions regarding different faith groups.

    Here is a list of four of Trump’s cabinet members and a description of their relationship to religion.

    1. Jeff Sessions

    U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama was the first senator to endorse Trump. Now he’s the president-elect’s pick for U.S. attorney general.

    Sessions previously was a prosecutor for the Justice Department. (He was denied a federal judgeship over testimony that he had made racist remarks.) He’s made clear he’s “not happy” about the direction the department has taken under…

    Christian legal expert defends Sharia law

    While Sir Mark Hedley sat on a panel which recommended the government regulate Sharia councils amid concerns they sometimes discriminate against women, he said they weren’t bad for Muslim women.

    He told Premier: “All Muslim women’s organisations we spoke to wanted us not to interfere with the presence of Sharia councils because they provide the only way in which a woman can obtain a religious divorce.

    “If they haven’t registered their marriage then the only way of getting a divorce is through the Sharia council if you’re a member of the Sunni community – it’s only the Sunni community that this relates to and the vast majority of English Muslim women are members of the Sunni community.”

    The review by academics and lawyers urged minsters to establish a body which would allow self-regulation by Islamic religious councils.

    But the Home Office has ruled that out, citing British laws and traditions.

    A Home Office statement said: “Sharia law has no jurisdiction in the UK and we would not facilitate or endorse regulation, which could present councils as an alternative to UK laws.

    “In Britain we have a long tradition of freedom of worship and religious tolerance, where many people of different faiths follow religious codes and practices and benefit from their guidance.

    “The Government has no intention of changing this position.”

    The review panel suggested regulating Sharia councils would help ensure the Muslim bodies…

    Russell Moore Condemns Clergy Members for Blessing Abortion Clinic

    Russell Moore Condemns Clergy Members for Blessing Abortion Clinic

    Russell Moore, president of the Ethics & Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, said it was “revolting” that some clergy members have been blessing abortion clinics.

    In a blessing of an abortion clinic in Bethesda, Maryland earlier this week, the Rev. Carlton Veazey, a minister in the National Baptist Convention, prayed over the clinic.

    “Keep them safe and keep them strong,” said Veazey, who is also president of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice. “And may they always know that all they do is for Thy glory.”

    According to the Washington Post, four Christian pastors and one rabbi attended the Maryland blessing.

    Meanwhile, some Christian leaders, including Moore, are criticizing the blessing.

    Father Frank Pavone, the National Director of Priests for Life and president of the National Pro-Life Religious Council, told LifeSiteNews: “The Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, as we have pointed out in the book Holy Abortion?is far out of the mainstream of America and the Church.”

    “Most who identify themselves as ‘pro-choice’ would be abhorred by what Carhart and other late term abortionists do.”

    Pavone was referring to LeRoy Carhart, a Nevada abortionist. In 2013, a substitute teacher from New York who was eight months pregnant died after Carhart performed a late-term abortion.

    Former employees have said…

    How Churches Have Buried a Devastating Legacy of Clergy Sexual Abuse and the Movement Pushing to End the Cycle

    At the Historic Plymouth Church in Brooklyn Heights, New York, the legacy of Henry Ward Beecher, the church’s first pastor who died more than 120 years ago, is prominently displayed in monuments celebrating his life.

    On a cold Saturday morning this winter, a guide could be heard telling tourists at the church about his great work as an abolitionist.

    Buried in lot 18495, section 123 at the nearby Greenwood Cemetery about a mile away from where Beecher is interred with his wife, Eunice, is a less prominently displayed part of his legacy.

    There are no signs announcing her presence, but cemetery records show that along with three other family members surnamed Tilton, one surnamed Pelton and another surnamed Morse, Elizabeth Tilton, a former parishioner of Beecher’s, is also buried here.

    Cemetery staff could not confirm if Elizabeth’s remains were below a white gravestone marked “GRANDMOTHER” in section 123 but confirmed she was “definitely there,” according to their records. She died blind and alone on April 14, 1897.

    Busiest January ever for Christian debt charity

    CAP’s busiest times of year are November, as people try to tackle problems before Christmas arrives and in January and February, when they find new momentum to get things sorted.

    Jake Hutton, head of CAP’s client setup department told Premier News Hour the most common reason for someone seeking help has to do with low cash flow.

    “Income levels are really low. With rising cost of living, housing, heating, and council tax, income is often not really keeping up with those levels,” he said.

    CAP booked in more new clients wanting debt help in January 2018 than in any month in the charity’s history.

    Previously, the record stood at 1,033 people in January 2014 but on 31st January 2018, the total was 1,049.

    “We’re going to have good days aren’t we and we’re going to have bad days,” Hutton said. “We’re certainly not immune from difficult days in our lives and our job at CAP is that we’re there for people on the difficult days.”

    Hutton encouraged Christians to take action if they know someone struggling.

    “We’re not all debt counsellors are we? But at the same time we’re called to look after and love our neighbour,” he said.

    “If we’ve got people alongside of us struggling with debt it’s probably good to encourage them to seek help.”

    Meanwhile, John Kirkby, CAP’s founder, has been awarded the Langton Cross for Community Service by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

    The award was…

    Open Heavens 3rd February 2018: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye — Divine Favor II

    Topic: Divine Favor II [Open Heavens 3rd Saturday February 2018]

    Memorise: “Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.” – Proverbs 18:22

    Read: Genesis 2:18-25 (KJV)

    18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

    19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

    20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

    21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

    22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

    23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

    24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

    25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

    Bible in One Year: Exodus 24-25, Romans 8:18-39

    MESSAGE

    Yesterday, we reflected on divine favor and discovered that divine favor is for those who seek it from God. Today we will be considering the blessedness of having a good spouse as a form of God’s favor. A blissful marriage is a divine gift and a mark of favor from the Almighty God. Some men and women maltreat their spouses because they fail to realize that having a wife (not just a woman) or a husband (just a man) is God’s favor, as our memory verse clearly shows. The truth of the matter is: a blessing you do not appreciate depreciate in your hands as a result of abuse or misuse. It is evil to abuse the gift of God that is your spouse.

    In today’s bible text, we see how God graciously provided Adam with a helper comparable to him, since none of the other existing creatures could meet this needs. The Lord knew that this helper must share the same image that Adam shared with God, and hence He created the woman. From this deed, one can understand why God frowns at sexual perversion, particularly homosexuality and bestiality. The Bible in Deuteronomy 27:21 says,

    “Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.”

    Beloved, the Lord is calling on you today to cherish the gift He has given to you in the form of your spouse. It is an act of ingratitude for you to maltreat your spouse who is an embodiment of the Lord’s favor in your life. Speaking to both parties, the Holy Spirit in Ephesians 5:21 says,

    “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”

    Let there be mutual submission between the two of you. Learn to say “sorry” to one another whenever you wrong each other. To the Christian husband, please love your wife (Ephesians 5:25). You have our Lord Jesus Christ as a role model to copy, being the Husband of the Church. The same unconditional and unending love with which Christ loves you must be extended to your wife. Rebuke the ego that has been preventing you from apologizing to your wife whenever you wronged her in the past. May the Lord help you in this regard in Jesus’ Name. To the Christian wife, I appeal to you not to allow that strange woman to take advantage of your pride and steal your husband from you. Please submit to your husband as the head; he did not make himself your head, God did (Ephesians 5:22). May the Lord preserve your home for you in Jesus’ Name.

    Action Point: Confess your faults to each other today and jointly pray this prayer: “Father, please forgive us our sins and help us to learn how to forgive one another. Father, please make our home as the days of heaven on earth in Jesus’ Name. Amen”

    Hymn 14: Onward Christian Soldiers

    1. Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
    With the cross of Jesus going on before.
    Christ, the royal Master, leads against the foe;
    Forward into battle see His banners go!

    Chorus:
    Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
    With the cross of Jesus going on before.

    2. At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;
    On then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
    Hell’s foundations quiver at the shout of praise;
    Brothers, lift your voices, loud your anthems raise.

    3. Like a mighty army moves the church of God;
    Brothers, we are treading where the saints have trod.
    We are not divided, all one body we,
    One in hope and doctrine, one in charity.

    4. Crowns and thrones may perish, kingdoms rise and wane,
    But the church of Jesus constant will remain.
    Gates of hell can never ’gainst that church prevail;
    We have Christ’s own promise, and that cannot fail.

    5. Onward then, ye people, join our happy throng,
    Blend with ours your voices in the triumph song.
    Glory, laud, and honor unto Christ the King,
    This through countless ages men and angels sing.

    Flatimes’ Notice Board: Please do not prolong your salvation if you have not repented. Many are going home daily and tomorrow maybe too late.
