Devil masked thieves lock priest in church before stealing cash

They stole a laptop, watch and the priest’s iPhone before forcing him to show them where donations were kept.

North Korea is Worst Place for Christian Persecution, Group Says

North Korea is Worst Place for Christian Persecution, Group Says

For the 16th year in a row, North Korea tops the list of 50 countries ranked for the worst persecution of Christians in the world, according to the Christian watchdog organization Open Doors USA.

A close second is Afghanistan, which jumped up one place since last year’s ranking. With the exception of North Korea, all the countries that cracked the top 10 are predominantly Muslim and most are in the Middle East and Africa.

“Open Doors exists to support and to advocate for persecuted Christians where ever they may be in the world,” Open Doors USA’s CEO and president, David Curry, said in announcing the list in Washington on Wednesday (Jan. 10). “We are asking that the world begin to use its power and its influence to push for justice, that we would use the list to direct us where justice is needed most in the world today.”

Curry also highlighted three trends Open Doors identifies as persecution against Christians — the rise of “rogue agencies” such as the Islamic State group and the North Korean government; “Islamic extremism”; and actions such as rape and forced marriage.

The list is compiled annually by Open Doors, whose researchers assign a point value to incidents of persecution — forced conversions, attacks on churches, arrests, etc. Open Doors has published its list for 26 years.

The group’s top 10 countries where Christians face the most…

WATCH: Bomb destroys Chinese megachurch

According to religious freedom charity China Aid, police demolished Golden Lampstand Church on Tuesday.

Authorities placed the bombs in underground worship halls beneath the church and proceeded to destroy its above-ground building.

The charity said this is not the first time the church has faced persecution. Some of Golden Lampstand Church’s leaders have been imprisoned for one to seven years, simply for serving at their church.

Also, when the church was being built in September 2009, church members who slept at the construction site were beaten by officials.

China has been targeting unregistered churches such as Golden Lampstand. Churches that refuse to register do so in order to opt out of government monitoring.

Yang Rongli, who was arrested in 2011 for being a part of the church said she saw the demolition.

She told a ChinaAid reporter: “The police surrounded the Golden Lampstand Church. Patrol wagons guarded the church. Workers smashed the church’s glass.

“At this point, excavators are digging into the church, but we are not allowed to enter or watch.

“The village head and the police from the local police station warned all the believers against entering the church. Now, we really have no idea what is going to happen.”

ChinaAid President and Founder Bob Fu has urged the government to stop demolishing churches and to compensate the Christians who paid for the building.

He said: “The repeated persecution of Golden Lampstand Church demonstrates that the…

Mission Groups Warn Misunderstanding of ‘Unreached’ People Hampers Fulfillment of Great Commission

(Photo: Reuters)Amazon forest.

Missionary groups taking part in the third annual International Day for the Unreached later this year have warned that “fuzzy thinking,” such as misunderstanding what “unreached” people actually means, has become an obstacle in fulfilling the Great Commission.

“Let’s be clear. The unreached are not our neighbors or our co-workers who may not be Christians,” Jon Fugler, chairman of the Alliance for the Unreached, said in a statement shared with The Christian Post.

“They are not unreached, because they have us. The unreached live in places where no one is there to tell them about Jesus.”

The movement’s mission is to bring the Gospel to the 2 billion people around the globe who have never heard about Christ, which is part of fulfilling the Great Commission that Jesus gave His followers.

This year’s Day for the Unreached is scheduled for Pentecost Sunday, on May 20.

Concern is rising among alliance members that many Christians have ‘lost sight’ of what the term really means, with missionaries going out to the far corners of the world to spread Jesus’ message.

Fugler added: “Of course, believers need to keep praying for and reaching out to those around us who don’t know Christ, but we believe it’s imperative that as a Church we embrace a greater commitment to seeing the Good News taken to the truly unreached — those in places and among people groups where the gospel has yet to be heard.”

He continued: “Fuzzy thinking leads to fuzzy actions. Only when we recognize that talking about the ‘unreached’ really refers to those who truly have not heard — the…

Philippine Catholic parade leaves 1 dead and 800 injured

The annual feast of the Black Nazarene features a centuries-old life-size blackened statue of Jesus, which people try to kiss or touch, believing it to possess miraculous powers.

Officials said 3.5 million barefoot devotees on Tuesday attended the “generally peaceful” event, despite crowds jostling to touch the icon.

However, police say a man died of a heart attack as he joined a number of people who attempted to climb onto the carriage bearing the Black Nazarene as it arrived at the Quiapo Church in Manila.

This is not the first time the festival has been marred with a death.

In 2016, two people died during the event in the mainly Catholic Asian nation.

Injuries included a suspected neck and spine injury in a fall, according to the Philippine Red Cross.

During the parade, police shut down mobile phone signals in many areas of Manila to prevent potential terror attacks on the procession.
