Just when it seemed like things may be settling down, two very unusual earthquakes have hit the west coast within the past couple of days. A 4.4 magnitude quake struck Berkeley, California just prior to 3 a.m. on Thursday morning, and a 3.9 magnitude earthquake hit Mount St. Helens in Washington state on Wednesday. Overall, there have been 68 earthquakes in the vicinity of Mount St. Helens since New Year’s Day, and there has been a total of 629 earthquakes in the state…

Many Christians have made New Year’s resolutions to read through the entire Bible this year, but how do you begin such a task? Pastor John Piper recently offered some help.
According to The Christian Post, Piper has encouraged Christians to begin their Bible reading by reading from four separate places daily.
This is called the Discipleship Journal Reading Plan, explained Piper in a post on his website, Desiring God.
“By reading these four different places, you complete the entire Bible in one year. Two of those places are in the New Testament, two of them are in the Old Testament,” explained Piper.
This plan also only has scheduled Bible readings for 25 days of every month, which leaves time to catch up if you fall behind, which may help you stay motivated to complete it.
Piper stressed how important it is to be regularly reading the Word of God:
“Christ is most magnified in us when we are most satisfied in Him, and we cannot be daily satisfied in the depths of our soul in Christ if we don’t see Him and savor Him.”
“I know that, left to myself, I am an absolute dud. I am blank, nothing deep, nothing moving, nothing intense, nothing beautiful, nothing precious, nothing sweet or wonderful…” he continued. Roman Catholic Church leaders in Kazakhstan have declared that it would be “blasphemy” if divorced people living with someone else would “dare ask” for Holy Communion.
Auxiliary Bishop Athanasius Schneider of Astana told Catholic News Service in an article on Thursday that “divorced people living with someone else would not dare ask for Holy Communion because they know they are living in a situation of sin. It would be blasphemy.”
Other church leaders, including Archbishop Tomash Peta of Astana and Archbishop Jan Pawel Lenga of Karaganda, all signed a statement in December proclaiming “the immutable truths about sacramental marriage.”
The three bishops said that neither they nor any other bishops can authorize Communion for Catholics who are divorced and remarried, unless the previous marriage has been annulled.
The statement comes at a time when Pope Francis is being criticized by some conservative Catholics of not making clear the Church’s stance on divorce and remarriage.

Abilene Christian University (ACU) in Texas told an ABC affiliate why the campus has asked students to avoid aspiring to become “hooter girls”.
Emerald Cassidy, ACU’s director of public and media relations, said: “We have asked students to consider both what Hooters represents and whether that is something they really want to support in terms of both their faith and the value this business model places on women.
Referencing the university’s handbook which challenges “students to make decisions that ultimately glorify God” both on and off campus, she added: “If a student was in a position where the university felt they were not upholding the standards in the handbook, we’d address those issues with that student at that time.
The world-famous restaurant chain is credited for being the first and leading ‘breastaurant’ -food establishments where skimpily-dressed female are waitresses.
In a promotional video about becoming a “Hooter Girl”, students are encouraged to apply via employee’s testimonies.
One server said: “We have a really flexible schedule if you are in school.”
Another lady says: “I love that my management works around my school schedule.
“Being able to come in to work every day and not stress about a test… is a really great thing.”

International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that one of the Chibok schoolgirls who was kidnapped in 2014 has escaped and is in safe keeping with the Nigerian government. The Nigerian military announced the rescue of the girl in the Sambisa Forest area in Borno State.
Confirming the release to ICC, the chairman of the Chibok Parents Forum, Yakubu Nkeki, said with a tone of excitement, “It is true! Her name is Salome Pogu, from Kuburmbula Ward, Kaumitihyahi village.” Yakubu further explained, “Just the day before, her father, Pogu Yahi, came to visit me and asked what further steps were being taken to secure the release of the remaining girls, only for us to hear the good news of the rescue of his daughter today.”
Yakubu also disclosed that the previously released girls who had been in the custody of the Nigerian government in Abuja were brought to spend Christmas with their families in Chibok. He said, “We distributed them to their parents in the various villages. It was indeed a joyful time of reunion and celebration.” The girls would soon return to Abuja to resume their education.
In 2014, Boko Haram, the radical Islamic sect, kidnapped more than 270 primarily Christian girls from their school in Chibok. Chevaze McGregor was jailed for life in June 2017 for murdering Jeremiah in his Wolverhampton home. He cited his Christian faith as a reason for the punishment.
In police interviews McGregor produced a letter in which he stated: “The job of the parent is to correct. God gave us pain so we know to do the right thing.”
The 27-year-old bit his partner’s son, hit him with a rod and belt and fractured his skull during months of abuse.
However, a Wolverhampton Safeguarding Children’s Board review said the “severe level of violence” Jeremiah suffered could not have been foreseen.
An apparent “exorcism ritual” Jeremiah’s mother, 25- year-old Sindyann Regis, underwent when pregnant was only seen by council officials after a video was published by a national newspaper.
The review also said the boy’s mother voiced concerns that McGregor was controlling and scary when telling a midwife her plans of moving from Croydon to Wolverhampton to live with him.
The inquiry said Regis’ concerns were reported to the community midwife and GP in Croydon, but were not kept in her health records or passed on quickly enough to authorities in Wolverhampton after she moved.
It added that Wolverhampton’s children’s services did not know the family had moved for several months.
The Wolverhampton Safeguarding Children’s Board said no “safeguarding concerns” were flagged.

The Islamic State has announced a declaration of war on the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas.
In a newly released video from the Islamic State, the group encourages its followers to attack Hamas.
A man accused of working with Hamas’ military wing is also executed in the video.
“Never surrender to them,” the video’s narrator said. “Use explosives, silenced pistols, and sticky bombs. Bomb their courts and their security locations, for these are the pillars of tyranny that prop up its throne.”
The Islamic State said it is declaring war on the Palestinian terror group because Hamas has itself been fighting against ISIS soldiers in Gaza. The Islamic State also said that Hamas failed to keep the U.S. from recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
In December, President Donald Trump announced the new capital as Jerusalem. The video from the Islamic State includes a clip of Trump’s announcement.
More violence in Gaza is now expected after the Islamic State’s announcement. Gaza is under Hamas control.
It’s also possible that the Islamic State asks supports to launch attacks into Israel and hope that Israel responds by retaliating against Hamas.
Hamas is also and Islamist terrorist organization. The group has been at war with Israel for decades because the group does not recognized the legitimacy of Israel.
