John Worboys – who was a cab driver in the capital – was jailed in 2009 for assaulting 12 women but is suspected of attacking over 100.

He was jailed indefinitely, with a minimum term of eight years.

Jill Saward who died exactly a year ago and was the first rape survivor in Britain to waive her right to anonymity after she was attacked by intruders at her father’s vicarage in 1986, branded the sentence a “disaster” back in 2009.

Her widower Gavin Drake told Premier how his wife would have reacted to his release.

Speaking during Premier’s News Hour, he said: “I think she’d be horrified.

“She was one who campaigned and promoted the idea and the concept of forgiveness but also at the same time the concept of justice.

“These were not things that were in competition with each other but they were two sides of the same coin.”

The chairman of the Parole Board has apologised “unreservedly” over the failure to inform the victims of Worboys’ imminent release.

Professor Nick Hardwick said he fully accepts there was a problem with the parole system, and that it was believed the victims had been informed before the decision was issued.

Drake told Premier there were a number of reasons he disagreed with Worboys being released.

He explained: “It is an injustice and it’s an injustice in part because of the secrecy.”

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders said 2.54 million new cars were registered. That’s 150,000 fewer than in 2016.

When asked if these figures mean we are heading away from a car-dependent society, Frost told Premier: “I don’t think we are because these sales are still quite strong.

“I mean this is the first drop-off in new car sales in six years and still some two and a half million [cars] approximately have been sold.

“I don’t think it shows that we are moving away from buying motor cars because this is the first dip in six years and these have been almost a record six years and at some stage it did have to come to an end.”

There was also a big decrease in the number of diesel models being bought.

Speaking on these figures, Steve Frost said: “A lot of later diesels are reasonably clean vehicles, the ones the Government are trying to get off the road are the older ones which don’t comply to the latest euro emissions – they can be quite dirty diesels.”

He said he’d noticed a change towards more people wanting to buy cars that are better for the environment.

He added: : “There has been a move for people to buy some of the nearly-new vehicles. These hybrid electric cars are quite expensive pieces of kit to buy so if you can buy those if they’re six months to 12 months to 14 months old and lower mileage rather than buying brand new, you can get a huge, huge saving.

Taylor’s 2-year-old, Jaxon, fell seriously ill in the days leading up to Christmas. He was diagnosed with Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (H.U.S), a severe complication of E.coli infection that can lead to kidney failure.

A week later his 4-year-old daughter Addie was diagnosed with the same strand of E.coli that Jaxon had.

 

Taylor, who has been documenting his childrens’ health journeys on Instagram, said while his kids aren’t 100 per cent back to normal but everyone’s prayers are working.

“When we were depleted and out of tears, we’d read your prayers and we’d read them over our babies. And man, your prayers have so much power!” he said in one post.

“Addie’s feeling MUCH better and slept through the whole night with a dry diaper. She still has a stomach bug but God’s turning that around.

 

“Today Jax ate a lot (and held it down), he painted, he played with Play-Doh, he blew bubbles, and watched Blippi (his favourite show) and laughed the whole time.

“Now his kidneys need to keep healing…and he needs to pee, in Jesus name Pee! Please keep praying until he’s sent home.”

Taylor also thanked those who have provided his family with meals, gifts, songs, art work, and money for medical costs while his children are hospitalised.

French news website Médiapart’s said that their six-month investigation led to the discovery that the intelligence agents became aware of threatening online messages by one of Fr Jacques Hamel’s killers earlier than was claimed.

While it had been reported the local intelligence officers received the information on the day of the attack in July 2016, the publication said they became aware five days prior but failed to pass it on to the national French intelligence.

It is alleged the police intelligence unit doctored the files in a bid to make it look as if the original report was only written on the day of the attack itself.

The claims have placed counter-terrorism agencies under further scrutiny over a series of terror attacks that have left 239 people dead in France since 2015.

On 26th July 26 2016, Adel Kermiche, and Abdel-Malik Petitjean, who were both 19 and Islamists, burst into a church in the small town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray in Normandy and slit the throat of the 85-year-old priest.

The priest shouted “Satan, get out of here, get out, Satan” during the attack.

The killers were shot dead by police who stormed the church some 45 minutes after they took a number of people hostage.
