Christian charity warns of grooming epidemic in Egypt

Release International, which supports persecuted Christians around the world, has warned of an epidemic of grooming and has urged for Egypt’s government to take a stand against such injustices.

Abouna, whose name has been changed for security reasons, works in communities where kidnappings are taking place and supports the victims. He said young women and girls are targeted as part of a deliberate strategy to convert Christians to Islam.

“They start with seducing the young girls, especially the non-educated girls by telephone calls – mobiles are now in every hand,” he said.

“They start to have affairs with them. And after a while, they convince them to marry and the girl finds herself trapped.”
The charity has found that there are rewards for every man who succeeds in converting a girl to Islam.

Kate Ward, a Release worker whose name has been changed, said: “He will be paid, according to our information, £1500 for a non-educated woman or £3000 for an educated woman.

“After that, he might divorce them. She then goes back to a life of shame. The money is coming from religious leaders, who many believe are paid from Saudi Arabia.’

Release has claimed this deliberate strategy of persecution because many abductions take place in Upper Egypt, a poor, rural area many miles from Cairo where attitudes are ultra conservative and the persecution of Christians is most severe.

Ward added: “He will say, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll be able to stay Christian. And when your…

How realistic is ‘Star Wars’ today?

Reading Time: 4 minutes

I recently saw Star Wars: The Last Jedi. As with the other movies in the franchise, the film’s plot depends heavily on some remarkable science-fiction technology. How plausible are these special effects in real life?

Don Lincoln is a senior physicist who does research using the Large Hadron Collider. Here are his assessments:

Droids (short for androids): “Definitely going to happen.” Lincoln points to robots that can do backflips and have made remarkable advances in artificial intelligence.

Lightsabers: “There are no known energy sources” with the capability to do what these weapons do on movie screens.

Faster than light travel: “There is absolutely no evidence” of the alternate time and space dimensions used by Star Wars travelers. As a result, such travel is “not very likely, even if you live as long as Yoda.”

Death Star/Starkiller Base: To destroy the Earth, you’d need to harness the energy output of our sun for an entire week, absorb and store it, then focus it as a weapon. Lincoln’s conclusion: “No way. That’s just crazy talk!”

The Force: “While scientists do talk about energy fields in the universe, with names like dark energy and the Higgs field, they aren’t anything like the one described in ‘Star Wars.’” As a result, “it is very unlikely that the Force will be with you.”

If the science behind Star Wars is largely impossible, why is the franchise so incredibly popular? The narrative resonates with us because it captures the essence of the human struggle: Good is perennially at war with evil. However, evil often seems more powerful than good. Thus, good people must do all the good they can while utilizing the resources of something or Someone more powerful than themselves.

We are reminded every day that we are broken people living in a broken world. From yesterday’s tragic Amtrak derailing to this morning’s fatal shooting near Times Square, the news perennially shows us the frailty and…

Christian reaction to new sex ed proposals

Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) will become compulsory in England in primary schools.

New proposals will likely include more education on transgenderism and same-sex relationships as well as changes to include teaching about the dangers of pornography and sexting.

Some Christians view the consultation period as a positive thing because Christian parents can speak out and say what they would like to see in RSE.

Rachel Gardner, Christian Director of Youthscape and President of the Girls Brigade, told Premier: “This is a wonderful opportunity to get involved and talk about the fact that we want our young people to grown into compassionate, kind adults with self-control and we really want that front and centre on the curriculum.”

Up until now, only a third of all secondary schools have been required to teach RSE.

Gareth Cheeseman from the Christian charity Acet UK which runs sex education classes said: “Our concern at the moment is the number of young people who don’t receive any relationship and sex education because their teachers are untrained and they don’t have the curriculum time to cover it, anything that can help tackle that issue has the potential to be a positive force.”

The news of including teaching about same-sex relationships has not gone down well with those who consider sexuality a moral issue which parents will have different views on.

Thomas Pascoe from Coalition for Marriage told Premier that young children are not old enough to…

Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz defends buying beer for homeless person

The moment was revealed in his new book “Own the Moment” and sparked criticism from church leaders about whether it was appropriate for Lentz to use alcohol as a way to invite someone to church.

When the 38-year-old pastor was asked about it in an interview with NJ.com, he responded: “There’s always going to be criticism from within that’s going to be more frustrating, problematic, annoying than from outside.

“That’s just classic Christian faith stuff.

“It was happening when Jesus was walking the Earth, and it will always happen.”

Lentz said one of the major points of his book is to remind people to seize the moment.

“I think the point of this book is to get people to go like, ‘You’re not going to get this life back; you have to do something now,” he added.

“If you do that long enough, I think it leads to somewhere special.”

Bitcoin Analyst Who Predicted Cryptocurrency’s Rise Now Sees It Reaching $300,000

REUTERS/Arnd WiegmannA sticker reading ”Bitcoin accepted here” is displayed at the entrance of the Stadthaus town hall in Zug, Switzerland, August 30, 2016.

The analyst who first predicted the rise of Bitcoin has come out with a new prediction regarding the cryptocurrency’s value. Independent research analyst Ronnie Moas, who predicted over the summer that digital currency’s price would reach as high as $5,000, now claims that it will reaching a staggering valuation of over $300,000 and become the “most valuable currency in the world.”

Since Mr. Moas’ prediction, the price of the digital currency has surged to over $20,000 increasing its value two-fold in just a matter of weeks. But this is just the start, as the analyst founder of Standpoint research points out.

“Bitcoin is already up 500 per cent since I recommended it in the beginning of July, and I’m looking for another 500 per cent move from here,” Moas told CNBC. “The end-game on bitcoin is that it will hit $300,000 to $400,000 in my opinion, and it will be the most valuable currency in the world.”

Moas’ claims stem from the economics between supply and demand. Given that there will only be a total of 21 million Bitcoins produced over the course of its, the high demand for the cryptocurrency and its finite nature will generally jack its price up. Whether it reaches Moas’ forecast of $300,000 to $400,000 though is still to be seen.

To be fair however, his original prediction was a bit conservative, expecting the currency to reach four-digit valuations. His latest claims are no different, but given the frenzied atmosphere, his…
