Report: Iraq is ‘Fully Liberated’ from ISIS Control

The Iraqi military says it has “fully liberated” the territories that had been under the control of “ISIS terrorist gangs.”

“Our heroic armed forces have now secured the entire length of the Iraq-Syria border,” Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi said on his Twitter account. “We defeated Daesh (ISIS) through our unity and sacrifice for the nation. Long live Iraq and its people.”

ISIS had taken control of many large territories in Syria and Iraq. According to CNN, the group controlled more than 34,000 square miles of area from the Mediterranean coast to just south of Baghdad.

Over the past few months, Iraqi soldiers have been working to reclaim those territories. In November, the last town under ISIS control was reclaimed.

The campaign took more than three years and included about 25,000 coalition airstrikes.

“Dear Iraqis, your land has been completely liberated, and your towns and villages have been returned to the homeland,” the prime minster said in a televised speech this weekend. “The dream of liberation became a reality.”

“ISIS dream has come to an end,” he added. “We must remove all its effects and should not allow terrorism to return again.”

Experts estimate that ISIS has displaced more than 3.2 million people.

“Our people have paid a high price for its security and stability and the blood of its finest youth, men and women,” Al-Abadi said. “Millions of…

Christmas Ads Cannot Promote Search for God, Federal Court Rules in DC Metro Dispute With Catholics

(Screenshot: NBC News)Archdiocese of Washington Christmas 2017 ad promoting the “Find the Perfect Gift” initiative.

A federal court decided on Friday against an injunction request by the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington D.C. in its case against Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s policies that ban “issue-oriented advertising,” such as urging people to search for God on Christmas.

The archdiocese had filed a lawsuit against Metro for its refusal to sell ad space on buses featuring its Christmas ad campaign “the perfect gift,” which refers to Jesus Christ.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson deemed that the archdiocese is not likely to succeed in its case, which is based on free speech and other First Amendment concerns.

Jackson also rejected claims that separate Salvation Army and yoga studio ads that Metro accepted are showing a double standard.

“It is about as distant from the ancient Indian religious traditions that gave rise to yoga as Black Friday at Best Buy is from Bethlehem,” the judge wrote, according to WTOP.

Ed McFadden, secretary of communications for the Archdiocese of Washington, responded to the decision by stating:

“We are disappointed that the federal court denied our emergency request for an injunction to run our ‘Find the Perfect Gift’ Advent ad…

Christian children injured in Kenya by Islamic militants

Voice of the Martyrs Canada (VOMC), an advocacy and aid group, reported that militants attacked three of eight children belonging to a Christian widow near Nairobi on 17th November.

The Christian charity said: “Hadiya, an immigrant from Somalia, had not yet returned from a trip to a funeral when the assailants — also of Somali descent — broke into her home at 5:30 in the morning.”

The extremists reportedly forced their way into Hadiya’s home after her sons, aged 13 and 21 asked the men to identify themselves when they knocked at their door.

The family, whose surname has been withheld amid security concerns, were attacked by the intruders when they tried to escape.

Neighbours of the family arrived at the scene described by the charity as a “bloody scene”.

Explaining the family’s injuries, VOMC said: “The youngest of the three sustained injuries to his left leg, neck, and chest; while his elder brother, who was hit with a blunt object, sustained more serious injuries to his head, chest and back.

“Their 17-year-old sister, who also received heavy blows and kicks, bled from her nose and sustained a rib injury.”

The charity claimed the assault on the family isn’t an isolated incident.

“Since embracing Christianity, they have suffered much persecution,” it said.

“In another incident, which took place last year, one of Hadiya’s other adult sons was beaten so badly that he was left unconscious.”

VOMC asked for people to not only pray for the family but also for the…

Over 10,000 People Attend Franklin Graham Rally in Vietnam

Over 10,000 People Attend Franklin Graham Rally in Vietnam

The Rev. Franklin Graham recently held a massive rally in Vietnam where he shared the gospel with over 10,000 people.

Following the rally, Graham posted to Facebook that many in the crowd responded to hearing God’s Word.

“I just concluded a Crusade in Hanoi. This is the first time an evangelistic event like this has been held in the northern part of Vietnam. A tremendous crowd came on Saturday night, and in addition to the full sports complex, people watched outside on giant screens,” Graham wrote.

“Some 400 buses brought loads of people to hear the Gospel message,” he continued. “We rejoice that so many responded to God’s offer of salvation and new life through repentance and faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.”

Graham also said that he was at the event to preach the gospel, not to talk about politics, although he does believe that Vietnam’s Communist government is beginning to change its attitude toward Christianity.

“Christians in Vietnam are gaining more religious freedom, and it seems we in the West are gradually losing ours,” he stated, according to The Christian Post. He added that he hopes the Vietnamese government “will see that Christians are not enemies, but Christians are some of the best citizens in Vietnam and people that they can trust and depend on.”

Junior clergy receive trauma training

The course, called ‘Tragedy and Congregations’, aims to help junior clergy react to a tragedy in their area in line with best church practice.

Clergy from all denominations are encouraged to reflect on theological truths by thinking about how tragedy fits in with God’s plan, as well as thinking about how to respond in prayer.

Churches can book a training team for between one and three days to help them think about the minister’s role at times of tragedy and how liturgy can be shaped to help the congregation flourish amidst difficulty.

The training is led by Dr Christopher Southgate, an Associate Professor in Interdisciplinary Theology at the University of Exeter.

He has previously worked as a lay chaplain and on mental health wards.

Dr Southgate told Premier: “When something really terrible happens, still in this country, people look to see what the church will do, so for the church to have a sense of what its resources are is really important.”

Speaking about how churches can react to tragedy helpfully Dr Southgate said: “I hope churches will see the opportunities these terrible events provide them to serve.

“And to provide resources such as prayer and vigil that you can’t find in the secular society.

“We always do material on pastoral care of individuals in times of need but I’ve never seen any programme focused on crisis in congregation and how clergy might respond”

There will be at least twelve sessions held over the country, funded by the Templeton World…

Seeds of Destiny 12 December 2017 by Pastor Paul Enenche: Spirituality – The Fear Of God – Key To Protection

Seeds of Destiny 12 December 2017 by Pastor Paul Enenche: Spirituality – The Fear Of God – Key To Protection

Topic: The Fear Of God – Key To Protection [Tuesday December 12, 2017]

Scripture: …Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. Psalms 105:15

Thought For The Day: Fear for those who do not fear God. Life becomes vulnerable outside the fear of God.

Sometime ago, I heard a story of some rebellious young persons who wanted to take a ride in a car to somewhere. Their mother said to them, ‘Children, may the Lord go with you all’. And one of the rebellious guys told the mother that there was no space for God in the car anymore as all the seats had been occupied by them already. He jokingly added, ‘Maybe God can find His place in the boot.’ What a terrible utterance!

In the course of their journey, they had a fatal road traffic accident, none of them survived. Surprisingly, the car boot where one of them said God should enter was absolutely intact, unscratched including the crates of egg that were right in there.

How could a car be involved in fatal accident that killed everyone on board have crates of eggs at the boot or trunk of the same vehicle that were not broken or damaged?

Beloved, we serve a very fearful God. That is why you should fear for those who do not fear God. Life becomes vulnerable outside the fear of God. Whatever talked through one of them saying that God should enter the car boot, talked all of them into destruction. It is curiosity that makes a goat to go and greet a hyena. That goat will instantly become food in the mouth of the hyena.

In this last month of the year, as you revere and serve God, I prophesy to you, what befall others shall never come near you, in the Name of Jesus Christ.

Remember This: Fear for those who do not fear God. Life becomes vulnerable outside the fear of God

Assignments:

1. Avoid, resist and flee from any invitation to disdain the Name of God.

2. Disconnect from those that easily and habitually talk against God, church or genuine servants of God.

Prayer: Lord, I disconnect from any association aimed at destroying my life on the platform of lack of reverence for You. Help me to maintain a buoyant and unbroken relationship with You, in Jesus’ Name.

FOR FURTHER UNDERSTANDING GET THE MESSAGE: WHAT ARE YOU OFFERING YOUR GENERATION?

Quote: When a man’s conscience is not alive, his character is lost, and the loss of character is the death of destiny. Culled from WHO ARE YOU? by Dr Paul Enenche

Don’t Forget To Attend: The 2 Power-Packed Communion Services tomorrow by 4:45pm and 6:30pm respectively. Invite friends and loved ones. God bless you.

Daily Reading: Amos 7:1 to 9:15, Revelation 3:7 to 22, Psalm 131:1 to 3, Proverbs 29:2

Amazing Fact: The only animals that have eyelashes are mammals.

Today In History: 12/12/1808 – First Bible Society was organized and known as the Bible Society of Philadelphia

Today’s devotional was written by Pastor Paul Enenche of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), headquartered at Abuja, Nigeria, with Pastor Paul and Becky Enenche, as the Senior Pastors. It is a power-packed arena where God’s Presence, Principles and Power are at work for the salvation, healing and restoration of human destinies and dignities.

Priests calls on congregants to bring phones to church for a blessing

Fr Alessandro Palermo, a 30-year-old parish priest for Marsala in the west of the island, also said that images viewed on phones could lead people into sin, according to The Times.

He said blessing the phones could help to ensure that they were used in ways that were instead beneficial for the spirit.

He told members of his church: “Society is drugged by the cell phone but at the same time it is not interested in understanding how it should be used.

“That’s why a blessing can do good, not to the phone but to those who use it.”

Tuesday (13th December) is the feast day of Santa Lucia (St Lucy) which is marked by Catholics and Orthodox Christians, and also celebrated by members of the Lutheran Church.

Lucy, whose name means ‘light’, was born in 283 AD in Syracuse, Sicily, and was martyred in about 304 AD after having her eyes gauged out, according to some accounts.

Other versions of the story say that she took out her own eyes to discourage a suitor who admired them.

Fr Palermo told his congregation the patron saint of the blind could help them.

He added: “We need an educated vision that enables us to make a correct and positive use of our smartphones and tablets.

“That’s why I want to bless them.”

The 15 Best Christmas Songs, Ranked (Religious Category)

Last week, Bonnie and I tackled the 15 best and 15 worst Christmas songs of the secular world, and now it’s time to turn our attention to the religious side of things. Don’t worry—the actual religious part of the equation is only used as a category, not a talking point. The music is what counts. And we won’t be doing the 15 worst religious Christmas songs, because that seems like a great way to make a lot of people angry. (Though if we did, my vote for the booby prize would have gone to “The Friendly Beasts”. I could do without the animal voices.)

So here are the best of the best. And I have to say, reducing this list to just 15 was super hard. For whatever reason—a roughly 1,900-year head start? The ability to work in minor keys?—there are more musically awesome religious Christmas songs than secular ones. The choice between the top two was particularly hard, and I’m still not sure I made the right call after lots of agonizing. But the call had to be made, and here’s how it played out:

Honorable Mention: Songs I Can’t Believe I Left Off

“Do You Hear What I Hear?”
“It Came Upon the Midnight Clear”
“Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
“Away in a Manger”
“Once in Royal David’s City”
“Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming”
“Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella”
“That One Seminal Song I Totally Forgot That’s Going to Completely Embarrass Me”

15. “O Little Town of Bethlehem”

It was a such a close call between this and “Away in the Manger” for the 15th position, but in the end “Little Town” just feels like it has more gravity and a better melody. This is a song that sounds best when sung by children.
