Ken Ham’s Apologetics Conference Critique ‘Unfair,’ ‘Unhelpful,’ Seminary Head Says

(Screenshot: Youtube/Southerner)Ken Ham shares his thoughts about young creation, February 2017.

Southern Evangelical Seminary has taken exception to a recent fundraising letter in which Answers in Genesis President Ken Ham questions an SES professor’s belief in the inerrancy of Scripture, even though the professor believes as Ham does that the earth was created in six days.

Ham was part of a dialogue event at the SES National Conference on Christian Apologetics in October, titled “God’s Word or Man’s Word: From Where Must Apologetics Begin?” He insisted that unwavering belief in God’s Word must be the beginning of any apologetics discussion and criticized SES Professor Emeritus Richard Howe for arguing that a defense of the faith can begin with a discussion of natural law.

Ham said in his assessment of the event that Howe “seemed rather weak in his convictions and not very knowledgeable of the biblical and scientific arguments in favor of young-earth creation. And he is very opposed to the way that I, and AiG in general, defend Genesis.”

SES President Richard Land, calling the young-earth creationist’s comments “unfair and unhelpful,” asserted in a statement, “One will be hard pressed to find a more conservative and steadfast seminary dedicated to teaching and defending…

Street preacher’s conviction quashed

The city’s Crown Court overturned a ruling handed down by Lincoln Magistrates Court to 33-year-old Daniel Courney (pictured above, wearing a pink shirt and orange tie) in September.

The American responded: “I came to the United Kingdom with its rich Christian history, to bring back the message of Jesus Christ.

“The message is a simple one: repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and do not follow false religions.”

Mr Courney had been evangelising on Lincoln High Street for eight years before he was arrested under the Public Order Act over his preaching on 16th June 2017.

Mr Courney’s lawyers said their client was reported to police by a Muslim woman who claimed she had been branded a member of Islamic State and told to “go back to your country” – claims Mr Courney always denied.

Christian Concern

He was charged with using “threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress”.

Mr Courney: “I have been held in police custody and accused of being a hate preacher.

“At all times, I simply wanted to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.

The Christian Legal Centre, which has been supporting Mr Courney, said the case highlights the need for police to “understand how the law protects free speech”.

Survey: Majority of Western Europeans do Not Believe in Heaven or Hell

Survey: Majority of Western Europeans do Not Believe in Heaven or Hell

A new survey shows that in a number of Western nations, the population no longer believes in Heaven or Hell, even if they also claim to believe in God.

The global survey from Ipsos, called “Perils of Perception,” found that a small percentage of the population in those countries believe in Heaven or Hell.

“Some countries significantly overestimate belief in Heaven: Japan guessed that 42 percent of people believe in Heaven when the actual figure is just 19 percent. In South Africa, the pattern is the opposite; their average guess is that 67 percent believe in Heaven, but actual survey results show belief in Heaven is 84 percent,” the report said.

“Guesses on how many people believe in Hell follow a similar pattern of big errors in both directions. For example, people in Spain think that 43 percent of Spaniards believe in Hell, when actually only 19 percent say they do.”

A minority of the population in Germany, Norway, Great Britain, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Canada, Spain, France, Japan and Belgium said they believed in Heaven or Hell.

“It’s difficult to reconcile some of them. Quite a large proportion identify as Christians and yet quite a small proportion believe in Heaven and Hell, so you wonder what those who identify as Christian actually believe,” said Graham Nichols, the director of Affinity, a network of Christian organizations.

“In terms of…

Christian scholar responds to Pope’s comment about altering Lord’s Prayer

Pope Francis said the Lord ‘s Prayer should be changed so that it doesn’t suggest God leads us into temptation.

The Pope said it is a mistranslation and that “let us not fall into temptation” would be better.

He said in an interview: “The French have modified the prayer to ‘do not let me fall into temptation’, because it is me who falls, not the Lord who tempts me to then see how I fall”.

Premier spoke to Dr Pete Williams, Principle of Tyndale House and New Testament scholar, to find out whether the claim of a mistranslation was true.

Dr Williams said: “I think it’s ‘do not lead us’, ‘do not bring us’ into temptation. It’s using that active language of God. It doesn’t have to imply that God’s a mean person who pushes otherwise good people to do bad things.”

“He [Pope Francis] rightly points out that we’re led by our own sin, it’s not God that pushes us…but let’s leave the translation as it is and trust the ordinary people to do that thinking themselves.”

He also pointed out that the Pope wasn’t making a statement but that it was a response to a question asking: “Does God lead us into temptation?”

In terms of the precise verse from Matthew 6:13, Dr Williams said: “I just think from the point of the view of the Greek and also the whole way this has been translated through the ages, he’s wrong in saying the translation is wrong.

“The great thing about this is that it’s been translated by loads of people in loads of different countries over loads of year and…

Open Heavens 9 December 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Stop The Pretence!

Topic: Stop The Pretence! — Saturday 9, December 2017.

Memorise: Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:1 Timothy 1:5

Read: 1 Timothy 1:5-9 (KJV)

5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:

6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;

7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.

8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;

9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,

Bible in One Year: Psalm 120-134, Zephaniah 2:13-3:8, Hymn: Sing Hymn 6 – Deeper, Deeper

MESSAGE:

Salvation through Christ is such a great experience, but the devil in his characteristic manner has introduced counterfeits into people’s lives. The consequence of processing a counterfeit salvation experience is a life of pretense. To guard against this wile of the devil, the Holy Spirit in 1 Timothy 1:5, admonishes us thus:

“Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:”

While God wants us to show love to all, he equally cares about the source of this love. The source of a thing goes a long way in determining its quality and value. You cannot bring something good out of an evil heart. If you do, that good thing is already tainted. For instance, even though you see lots of food in a dunghill, you will not go to eat from there. God is therefore saying that you should do away with pretense and hypocrisy, because they taint whatever good works you are doing. He is saying that if you will show Him love, make sacrifices for His sake, or give to his cause, such actions must come out of a pure heart, with a good conscience and done with sincerity; otherwise, the doer of these works may not get any reward.

Are you saved? Is your salvation genuine or false? 2 Corinthians 5:17 says if you are saved, old things are passed away. This means that if you were stealing before, after experiencing salvation, you will stop stealing. You cannot continue stealing and still lay claim to salvation. While my father-in-the-lord was alive, if you claimed to be saved, he would ask you these questions: “what were you saved from? What were you doing before that you no longer do now?” today, people claim they are saved, and yet they still steal, lie or fornicate. What kind of salvation is that? In one of my missionary trips outside Nigeria, a man came to me and said, “Sir, I heard that you are a prophet of God and that your prophesies are deadly accurate.” “Is that so?” I replied and further added, ‘I am not a prophet but a pastor, but I do hear from God once in a while.” He then asked me to tell him his future. I asked him if he was born again and washed in the blood of Jesus Christ, and His response was “No”. So I said to him, “Your future will be terrible.” Alarmed, he said, “How do you know? You don’t even know my name, and you have not even prayed!” I told him there was no need for that because Isaiah 3:11 says “Woe to the wicked!” on the other hand, if you are saved, your tomorrow will be alright. Are you saved? Did you genuinely give your life to Jesus Christ on a particular day? If not, do it today!

Key Point: The afterlife has no room for pretense. It’s all about reality and truth.

Hymn 6: Deeper, Deeper

1. Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.

Refrain:
Oh, deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

2. Deeper, deeper, blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will.
Refrain:

3. Deeper, deeper! though it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.
Refrain:

4. Deeper, higher, every day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last.
Refrain:

5. Deeper, deeper in the faith of Jesus,
Holy faith and true;
In His pow’r and soul exulting wisdom
Let me peace pursue.
Refrain:

Student-Led Prayer Will Continue before School Board Meetings in Texas

Student-Led Prayer Will Continue before School Board Meetings in Texas

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a case filed by the American Humanist Association which challenged student-led prayer before school board meetings.

According to OneNewsNow.com, back in March, the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in favor of the Birdville Independent School District in Haltom City, Texas allowing student-led prayer to continue.

The American Humanist Organization appealed the court’s decision, but their case has now been declined by the Supreme Court.

Liberty Counsel’s Mat Staver commented on the Supreme Court’s decision not to hear the case:

“It was unanimous because the Supreme Court of the United States has spoken on this issue not very long ago,” said Staver. “Not with regards to school boards but with regards to the local governmental level – and the precedent is exactly the same. I think after this, you’re going to see more and more school boards allow this kind of prayer and certainly not be intimidated.”

A 2014 case, Town of Greece v. Galloway set a precedent of allowing prayer before local government meetings when a high court in the state of New York ruled in favor of allowing the prayers.

The town of Birdville has been allowing prayer before school board meetings since 1997.

Member of public escorted from Lords debate led by Justin Welby after ‘disturbance’

It occurred as Labour peer Lord Giddens was speaking during the annual debate led by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

A shout could be heard, with the peer pausing and noting there was a “continuing disturbance from outside” before resuming his speech.

A House of Lords spokeswoman said the incident occurred at the entrance to Strangers Gallery, where visitors can watch debates.

They gave no further indication as to the reason for the disturbance, which occurred at around 11.18am on Friday.

The Lords spokeswoman said: “A member of the public caused a disturbance at the entrance to Strangers Gallery outside the House of Lords chamber.

“The Metropolitan Police escorted the individual away from the chamber.”

The Most Rev Justin Welby’s debate on Friday focused on the role of education in building a flourishing and skilled society.
