The atmosphere of a recently discovered planet believed to host alien life will be probed using NASA’s latest big powerful space observatory — the James Webb Space Telescope.

A research has discovered a planet that is 111 light years away and is speculated to be the scaled-up version of earth. Named as K2-18b, and is considered to possibly be a “Super-Earth,” the said planet is suspected to host alien life. After all, it orbits within its red star’s, K-12 18, habitable zone, suggesting that it can hold liquid water, which is considered to be the key indicator of the presence of life.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University of Texas, Scarborough, and University of Montreal, Canada, who used the date from the European Southern Observatory (ESO).

“Being able to measure the mass and density of K2-18b was tremendous, but to discover a new exoplanet was lucky and equally exciting,” said the study’s lead author Ryan Cloutier, from the University of Montreal.

After using the High Accuracy Radial Velocity Planet Searcher (Harps) instrument to analyze it, the researchers believe that K2-18b is possibly rocky with a gaseous atmosphere, pretty much the same with earth  Nonetheless, more investigation is needed as it is also possible that the planet may just be mostly water with some thick layer of ice.

According to reports, the atmosphere of K2-18b will be further investigated with the use of NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, which has just been recently removed from its giant,…

Trump Will Recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

Trump Will Recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s Capital

President Trump will officially recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital today, despite pushback from several world leaders.

Trump has often promised to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and this seems to be a step in that direction. As ChristianHeadlines.com previously reported, Vice President Mike Pence recently reaffirmed the Trump administration’s commitment to moving the U.S. Embassy.

“President Trump is actively considering when and how to move the American embassy,” Pence stated, adding that “[The United States] stands with Israel because her cause is our cause, her values are our values and her fight is our fight,” Pence stated on November 29th, while commemorating the 70th anniversary of Israel’s nationhood.

While the President will recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital today, the Embassy move will be temporarily delayed, according to Townhall.com.

Palestinians have already called this change a threat to peace in the already unstable region. Protests are also planned for the next several days, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and French President Emmanuel Macron have all warned Trump about recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Israel’s mayor, on the other hand, has appealed to Trump to go through with this measure of support for Israel.

Court to hear Christian report on key Sharia case

Representatives from Christian Concern and the Christian Legal Centre previously submitted a ten-page document to the Strasbourg-based court, warning that Islamic law is “incompatible” with the Western legal system.

Prior to the proceedings, Christian Concern’s Head of Public Policy, Tim Dieppe, said: “We hope that our intervention will help to show the judges that they should not allow Sharia law to overrule a member state’s domestic law.”

The legal dispute concerns a Greek widow from a Muslim family who claims she is entitled to the estate of her late husband, under Greek law.

But two of her husband’s sisters claim that the inheritance should instead be adjudicated by a Muslim legal expert (a mufti), in accordance with sharia law.

Commenting on the Molla Sali v. Greece case, Christian Concern warned that Sharia law is “discriminatory by nature”.

It added: “A ruling at this level that sharia law can have supremacy over a member state’s domestic law could have dire effects on the Council of Europe’s 47 member states, including the United Kingdom.

“Sharia law is fundamentally incompatible with human rights, and our intervention explains that the Universal Islamic Declaration of Human Rights restricts freedom of speech and freedom of religion, as does the Cairo Declaration on Human Rights.”

Demand for Church Security Seminar High in Wake of Shooting; Texas Megachurch to Host a Second

Hundreds of church leaders from across the United States and from all over the denominational spectrum filed into Pastor Jack Graham’s Prestonwood Baptist megachurch in Plano, Texas, on Tuesday for a free seminar on church security, a conference that was in such high demand they had to schedule more than one.

Mike Buster, Prestonwood’s executive pastor, told The Christian Post in an interview that his church was expecting as many as 700 people to show up for Tuesay’s seminar and that the church had to schedule a second seminar for next Tuesday, Dec. 12, because of the great demand in the wake of the deadliest church shooting in American history that took place about four hours down the road in Sutherland Springs in early November.

“We have never done this before. This is obviously a response to what had taken place in South Texas and we always had churches wanting to know how Prestonwood does what we do. We just wanted to be a resource,” he said.

“We are partnering with the Texas Southern Baptist Convention in this but this is not just for Baptist churches. We’ve got Catholic, Methodist, Lutheran, Spanish, Korean and different language churches. We wanted to do something to…

Christian Aid pays £844k to exiting workers

The worker head count for offices in the UK, Ireland and Spain fell from 556 to 508 in the last financial year, the charity’s latest annual report and accounts information show.

Bosses say the outcome of the European Union membership referendum in June 2016 and the end of a five-year UK Government contract work £36.2 million were two attributing factors.

Chief executive Loretta Minghella said: “The drop in the value of the pound since the Brexit vote and the completion of our most recent Programme Partnership Agreement with the Department of International Development has meant that we have had to undertake a restructure to achieve substantial cost savings.”

Taking into account individuals who work part-time or are in job share agreements, the full-time equivalent figure declined from 507 to 462.

The relief and development agency, which operates across the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and Asia, spent £884,000 on redundancy and termination payments during the year – an increase on £335k the previous year.

Among other measures taken has been a recruitment freeze.

Loretta Minghella added: “Our finances are now more resilient to the type of exchange rate shock that followed Brexit [the referendum vote] and we have secured a number of new institutional grants for programmes which commence in the current year.”

Meanwhile, Christian Aid boosted its international-based staff from 402 to 423 – easing the overall headcount loss figure for 2016/17, which stood…

Four Considerations for Baby Boomer Pastors

I am one of you.

We are the generation born between 1946 and 1964. Until the Millennials came along, we were the largest generation in American history. Our influence is still great.

But most of us are surprised our older years arrived so quickly. We can remember when we didn’t trust anyone over the age of 30. Now we think 30-somethings are kids. Many of us have difficulty dealing with this phase of our life and ministry. Older age was for “those people.” It never was supposed to be about us.

And now we are here. Our ages range from 54 to 72. We are in our fourth quarter. How do we end well, especially if we are in vocational ministry? Allow me to make four suggestions.

  1. Make your life one of mentoring. You have rich experiences. You have served as pastor of good churches and tough churches. You know the joys of ministry. You know the pains of ministry. You know what it is like to be ready to throw in the towel. Find a Millennial pastor. Grab a coffee with him. Go with no agenda other than to get to know him better and to pray for him. See what God will do with that relationship.
  2. Don’t let your vocation be your identity. Your identity is child of the living God. Your identity is Christ. It is not your title or your position or your church. We Boomers often get so caught up in our work and ministry that it begins to define who we are. As a consequence, we have trouble letting go when it’s time to leave. That brings me to the next point.
  3. Know when to leave. We Boomers won’t retire in…

Supreme Court hears landmark religious liberty case

Yesterday, the Supreme Court heard what Eric Metaxas calls “perhaps the most important free speech and religious freedom case in our lifetime.”

Eric explains the case succinctly: Jack Phillips is an artist who designs cakes. His business, Masterpiece Cakeshop, is an expression of his faith. He has refused business in the past that conflicted with his faith–for instance, he won’t design Halloween cakes or cakes that celebrate divorce. The Satanic Temple recently asked him to create a cake for Satan’s birthday, but he refused.

When a same-sex couple asked him to design a cake for their same-sex wedding, he declined. He offered them any cake or other product in his store.

But the couple was infuriated and brought him before the Colorado Civil Rights Commission. It fined Phillips and ordered him and his employees to go through a “re-education” program. He has since stopped making custom wedding cakes, a decision that has cost him 40 percent of his business.

The Supreme Court has previously ruled that government cannot force citizens to make, say, or do something that carries a message they reject. For example, the Court has ruled that the government cannot compel Jehovah’s Witnesses to salute the flag. Now the Court is being asked to extend this religious freedom to the rest of us.

Can businesses “discriminate” against customers?

Writing for The Hill, Emilie Kao states, “At stake is whether the First Amendment to the Constitution protects all Americans at all times.” When Justice Anthony Kennedy authored the decision legalizing same-sex marriage in 2015, he stated, “It must be emphasized that religions, and those who adhere to religious doctrines, may continue to advocate with utmost, sincere conviction that, by divine precepts, same-sex marriage should not be condoned.”

We can claim that people who go into business forfeit the right to “discriminate” against customers. But Colorado already respects the rights of…
