Westboro Baptist Church film planned

‘Hate (A Love Story)’ is based on the account of a man who sued the church and its founders after members staged a protest at the funeral of his son.

The subsequent legal battle went all the way to the US Supreme Court, which ruled in favour of Westboro Baptist Church on the grounds of free speech.

Director of ‘Hate (A Love Story)’, Rod Lurie was quoted by Variety magazine as saying: “The first amendment is the first amendment for a reason – our most cherished right.

“But it often creates muddy and uncomfortable situations, ones that are the source of great drama and national self-reflection.”

The film will be based on the story of Albert Synder whose son, Marine Lance Corporal Matthew Snyder, was killed while serving in Iraq in 2002.

Members of Westboro Baptist Church arrived at the funeral holding signs which read provocative phrases including “God Hates You”.

‘Hate (A Love Story)’ is being developed by the Los Angeles-based company Branded Pictures Entertainment and is being produced by J. Todd Harris.

It emerged in August that Marc Webb would direct ‘This Above All’, a film based on the account of Megan Phelps-Roper, a woman who was disowned by her family after leaving Westboro Baptist.

The church became infamous during the mid-2000s for inflammatory pickets targeting American soldiers, homosexual people and others.

Andrew Wommack’s Daily 6 December 2017 Devotional: Where’s Your Focus?

Topic: Where’s Your Focus? [Wednesday December 6, 2017]

Matthew 27:4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.”

These Jews, who had courted Judas’ favor to obtain his cooperation in arresting Jesus, cared nothing for Judas. They had simply used him. The devil’s crowd may flatter as long as they can use you, but you can be assured that when there is no longer anything in it for them, they will forsake you just as the chief priests did Judas.

The serpent didn’t come to Eve in the garden threatening to bite her if she didn’t eat of the forbidden fruit. Instead, he came with deception, presenting himself as being concerned for her welfare. Satan’s greatest weapon is deceit.

Just as a football player, a boxer, or military man’s success depends partly on how well he knows his opponent(s), so believers must not be ignorant of Satan’s devices. Jesus stripped Satan of all his authority (Mt. 28:18). The power that Satan uses against us now, is deception. Those who ascribe other powers to him have already fallen prey to one of his lies. The devil deceives us and uses our own power and authority against us. The thing that makes deception so deadly is that those who are deceived don’t know it. Once they realize they are deceived, they aren’t deceived any more.

The best defense against the devil is to be so God-centered that you give no place to Satan. People who are very sensitive to the devil’s presence usually are so at the expense of being sensitive to the Lord’s presence. David said, “If I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there” (Ps. 139:8). Anytime Satan’s oppression is present, God’s presence is there too (Heb. 13:5). It’s just a matter of where our focus is. Focusing on the devil is a trick of the devil. Choose to focus on God.

Billy Graham’s Daily 6 December 2017 Devotional: Relying on Grace

Billy Graham’s Daily 6 December 2017 Devotional: Relying on Grace

Topic: Relying on Grace [Wednesday December 6, 2017]

Yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. — 1 Corinthians 15:10

Let us face this fact: We came into the world with nothing, and we will leave it with nothing. Where do we get the notion that man’s idea of success and God’s are the same? You have written a book; you are a clever manager and promoter; you are a talented artist; you are independently rich; you have achieved fame and fortune. Without the gifts of intelligence, imagination, personality, and physical energy—which are all endowed by God—where would you be? Are we not born poor? Do we not die poor? And would we not be poor indeed without God’s infinite mercy and love?

We came out of nothing; and if we are anything, it is because God is everything. If He were to withhold His power for one brief instant from us, if He were to hold in check the breath of life for one moment, our physical existence would shrivel into nothingness, and our souls would be whisked away into an endless eternity. Those who are poor in spirit recognize their creatureliness and their sinfulness—but more, they are ready to confess their sins and renounce them.

Prayer for the day: All I have or am, Lord God, has been given to me by Your almighty hands. Forgive me when I tend to boast about my own accomplishments—for I am nothing without Your grace and love.

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland’s Daily December 6, 2017 Devotional: Your Children Released From Captivity

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland’s Daily December 6, 2017 Devotional: Your Children Released From Captivity

Topic: Your Children Released From Captivity [Wednesday December 6, 2017]

Thus saith the Lord; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord; and they [your children] shall come again from the land of the enemy. And there is hope in thine end, saith the Lord, that thy children shall come again to their own border. – Jeremiah 31:16-17

Jesus has redeemed us from the curse. Many of us have been well taught about that redemption where sin, sickness and poverty in our own lives are concerned. But we often fail to realize that redemption has power over the destruction the devil tries to bring on our children’s lives as well.

Deuteronomy 28 states the curse of the law in verses 16-68. Notice what that curse says about children. “Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day long: and there shall be no might in thine hand” (verse 32).

“Thou shall beget sons and daughters, but thou shalt not enjoy them; for they shall go into captivity” (verse 41).

Many Christian parents are still suffering needlessly under that curse. Their children are being taken captive by drugs, alcohol and perversions. But it doesn’t have to be that way! Since Jesus broke the curse of the law, these parents have the authority in the Name of Jesus to order Satan out of their children’s lives.

Don’t let the devil run roughshod over your children! When you see the first warning signs of rebellion in them, confess the promises of God over them and refuse to give the devil any room to operate.

Remember, the children don’t understand the unseen forces that are coming against them. So it’s your responsibility to stand against those forces on their behalf. Exercise that responsibility. Then take every opportunity to minister love to them.

God knows how to deliver your children. Do your part and trust Him to do His. He will bring them back from the land of the enemy!

Our Daily Bread 6 December 2017 Devotional – Trusting God Even If

Topic: Trusting God Even If — Wednesday December 6, 2017.

Read: Daniel 3:13–25, Bible in a Year: Daniel 3–4; 1 John 5

The God we serve is able to deliver us. Daniel 3:17

Due to an injury that occurred in 1992, I suffer from chronic pain in my upper back, shoulders, and neck. During the most excruciating and disheartening moments, it’s not always easy to trust or praise the Lord. But when my situation feels unbearable, God’s constant presence comforts me. He strengthens me and reassures me of His unchanging goodness, limitless power, and sustaining grace. And when I’m tempted to doubt my Lord, I’m encouraged by the determined faith of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. They worshiped God and trusted He was with them, even when their situation seemed hopeless.

When King Nebuchadnezzar threatened to throw them into a blazing furnace if they didn’t turn away from the true God to worship his golden statue (Dan. 3:13–15), these three men displayed courageous and confident faith. They never doubted the Lord was worthy of their worship (v. 17), “even if” He didn’t rescue them from their current predicament (v. 18). And God didn’t leave them alone in their time of need; He joined and protected them in the furnace (vv. 24–25).

God doesn’t leave us alone either. He remains with us through trials that can feel as destructive as Nebuchadnezzar’s furnace. Even if our suffering doesn’t end on this side of eternity, God is and always will be mighty, trustworthy, and good. We can rely on His constant and loving presence.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for being with us, no matter what we’re going through.

Faith relies on our Almighty God’s unchanging character, not on our circumstances.
