Vicar apologises for calling his congregation ‘arrogant gossips’

Rev Andy Thewlis sent a 1,200 word letter to his congregation at All Saints Church in Burbage, Wiltshire where he complained that Sunday morning services were being spoilt by “gossip and disunity”.

In his letter dated 16th November, Rev Thewlis also wrote: “The Sunday morning worship experience is neither warm, nor welcoming.

“It does not portray real love, joy or peace. Rather it reflects an organisation that is characterised by grumbling, gossip, and disunity.”

He has now apologised after being summoned for a meeting with the Bishop of Salisbury, The Rt Rev Nick Holtam, The Times reported.

The Salisbury Diocese said: “Upon being made aware of the letter sent to church members in Burbage the Bishop of Salisbury met with the Rev Thewlis at the earliest opportunity.

“Mr Thewlis has now written a letter of apology to those who received his letter which was inappropriate in both tenor and content.

“The Bishop has also offered Mr Thewlis pastoral support including sabbatical time to consider his future and he has accepted this.”

Rev Thewlis, who relocated to Wiltshire last year after working for 21 years in a Jersey church, also said in his original letter that he and his wife were “actively looking for a ministry elsewhere”.

Apple Rushes Release Of iOS 11.2 To Fix Crashing Issue

Apple official websitePromotional picture for iOS 11.

Apple has released the iOS 11.2 much earlier than it hoped after a new bug caused iPhones to crash just hours prior. The company released the update last Saturday to address as well as add a number of new features to its devices.

The update is the seventh for the beleaguered iOS 11 and was expected to be released this Tuesday, as with most updates for its mobile operating system. Consequently, the software arrived unfinished and will probably need more tweaks over the coming days.

The main feature coming with the iOS 11.2 is Apple Pay Cash, Apple’s new peer-to-peer payments service. Apple Pay Cash will be available on the Messages app, allowing iPhone users in the US to send money through iMessage.

Cash is then deposited on an Apple Pay Cash card inside the Wallet app and can be used to purchase goods through Apple Pay or transferred to a bank account. Servers for the feature are currently offline due to the rushed release but will be available soon.

The update also introduces improved wireless charging for the iPhone X and iPhone 8 models. By adding 7.5-watt speeds through Qi-based charging pads, devices can fill up much faster. While this is still below what other wireless-charging flagships are capable of, it’s definitely a nice addition for active people who like to use their Apple devices on the go.

Like previous iOS 11 releases, the update is compatible the iPhone 5S or later, iPad mini 2 or later and 6th generation iPod touch or later. Users can download the update the software update section of iOS settings. It also…

Traditional Christmas Cards Inherent Part of British Celebrations, Study Shows

REUTERS/Laura Haapamaki/Lehtikuva/FilesA man dressed as Santa Claus leaves for his annual Christmas journey from the Santa Claus Village at the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland December 23, 2014.

While Christmas greetings can now be easily conveyed through text or a social media message, majority of the British populace still prefer to have their holiday greetings done the traditional way: Christmas cards.

Although there is no denying that saying “Merry Christmas” has become a lot easier these days, regardless of the distance that separates the giver and the recipient of the greeting, because of technology, an Oxfam study in Britain has revealed that majority of the British people still prefer to receive Christmas cards. Based on the results of the study, more than half of those surveyed have said that they would be devastated if the Christmas greetings they will get this year happen through the aid of technology.

In the said research, 64 percent of the respondents expressed their belief that those who no longer bother to send the traditional Christmas card have lost the true essence of the season, while 83 percent said that handwritten words convey more thoughts and feelings than greetings posted on social media or sent through text.

“Us Brits love our traditions, and this survey proves our nation is united when it comes to festive greetings.Electronic messages just can’t replace reading a handwritten message from a well-wisher, or the lovely decoration they bring when strung up at home. And unlike some charity Christmas cards, every penny of the profit raised from Oxfam…

Prince William Hand-Delivers Letter to Santa from Prince George; What Does He Want for Christmas?

Prince William hand-delivered a letter to Santa from Prince George during his short official visit to Helsinki, Finland last Thursday. The 35-year-old royal found jolly old St. Nicholas at a festive market and a photograph showed the old man holding up Prince George’s Christmas list.

REUTERS/Richard PohleFour-year-old Prince George wrote a letter to Santa Claus that his dad Prince William gave to Father Christmas.

The letter only contained one item that Prince George wrote down. The 4-year-old royal specifically asked for a police toy car for Christmas.

The young prince also encircled the word “nice” in his letter to Santa. Prince William attested to Father Christmas that Prince George has been a good boy this year.

“I’ve seen you and I had to give you this letter,” Prince William told Santa with amusement. “He hasn’t written down many requests, so I think one request is probably ok.”

The second-in-line to the throne was in Helsinki to observe Finland’s 100th year of independence from Russia. He graced the reception that Britain’s ambassador to Finland Sarah Price hosted aside from meeting Santa and young kids who held British flags in the market.

“The United Kingdom and Finland proudly share the same values as open and democratic societies,” Prince William stated. “We share the same determination to champion those values and promote inclusion and prosperity.”

Meanwhile, there was no mention of 2-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte’s letter to Santa perhaps because she still can’t write. The princess is <a…

Five Reasons the Homogeneous Church Is Declining and Dying

When you are in your worship services next Sunday, look at the people around you.

Do they all look like you? Do they all come from the same economic backgrounds? Are they are about the same age?

If so, you are in a homogeneous church. As the old homogeneous unit principle implied, “We attract people who are like us.” That principle was a point of contention and debate for decades. Is it descriptive (a reality observed), or is it prescriptive (a strategy pursued)?

I contend that the healthy church in America will be neither. Indeed, I contend that the homogenous church is declining and dying.

Why? Here are five key reasons.

  1. We live in a heterogeneous culture. I grew up in the racist world of the Deep South. We whites had our own churches, places of business, and country clubs. No one else was allowed. If you went to the doctor, there were separate waiting rooms for whites and African Americans (“Coloreds”). It was abysmal. It was sickening. I know. Racism is not gone. But I am grateful that my children and grandchildren don’t even know why a person of a different color should not be their friend or colleague. The culture has changed. But not all churches have changed. Those that haven’t will die.
  2. Gen Z will not have a majority racial or ethnic group. Those born from 2001 to today are growing up in a generation that has no majority group. For the first time in American history, whites will be a minority with other minority groups. That is the real world. Our churches need to reflect…

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 4 December 2017 Devotional: What is faith?

Joyce Meyer's Daily 4 December 2017 Devotional: What is faith?

Topic: What is faith? [Monday December 4, 2017]

Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Christ Jesus [the Revealer and Mediator of that will]. — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Faith is a word that we use a lot, but sometimes we can make it too complicated. Faith simply means “belief or absolute trust”; the word also implies loyalty and commitment.

Faith isn’t a huge, complicated concept that we have to stress over. Genuine faith in God simply acknowledges that the message of Jesus’ death and resurrection is absolutely true. It happens when we say, “Not only does it make sense to me, but I’m willing to stake my life on it.”

The Bible says that the uncompromisingly righteous shall live by faith and faithfulness. One way to think of the uncompromisingly righteous is to think of those who are made right by the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Through faith we are made right, and God treats us as His own beloved children.

Today, I encourage you to get back to the basics of faith.  Know that when you put your faith in Him, you are made right. Live by your trust in the God who reaches out to you with loving and open arms, ready to receive you and love you just as you are.

Prayer Starter: Lord, I am so thankful that I can put my faith in You and become “uncompromisingly righteous.” Today, I live by faith in You.

Teens’ Open Heavens 4 December 2017 by Pastor Adeboye – Satan’s Delicacy

Teens’ Open Heavens 4 December 2017 by Pastor Adeboye - Satan's Delicacy

Topic: Satan’s Delicacy [Monday 4, December 2017]

Memorise: “Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.”Hebrews 12:16

Read: Daniel 1:6-8

1 Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

7 Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego.

8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.

Bible In One Year: 2 Corinthians 1-4. Hymn: Sing Hymn 9: My Faith Has Found Resting A Place

MESSAGE:

The word ‘delicacy’ is commonly used to describe a food item that is considered highly desirable and usually scarce and expensive. Delicacies often have unusual characteristics, flavours and tastes, thereby attracting the interest of the high and mighty in the society. Meanwhile, the devil uses delicacies as a potent weapon to bring down his human targets, and it has proven to be an effective weapon over the years. He successfully used it against Adam, Eve, Esau, etc. However, godly people like Daniel know that certain delicacies have the potential to defile a child of God, especially when offered as bait from the devil. Christians are the brides of Christ, therefore, God expects us to maintain our purity. Psalms 119:1 says:

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of God.”

The undefiled resists temptation and is without sin like Jesus was (Hebrews 4:15). If you want to remain undefiled, you must watch against the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-17). To be undefiled, you must remain in God’s will, keeping His commandments. God’s Word and instructions must be the laws governing your life. Are you undefiled?

Prayer Point: Lord Jesus, I refuse to fall for the devil’s trick, please help me to maintain my purity.

Sing Hymn 9: My Faith Has Found Resting A Place

My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device or creed;
I trust the ever living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.

Chorus:
I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.

Enough for me that Jesus saves,
This ends my fear and doubt;
A sinful soul I come to Him,
He’ll never cast me out.
Chorus:

My heart is leaning on the Word,
The living Word of God,
Salvation by my Savior’s Name,
Salvation through His blood.
Chorus:

My great Physician heals the sick,
The lost He came to save;
For me His precious blood He shed,
For me His life He gave.
Chorus.

Andrew Wommack’s Daily 4 December 2017 Devotional: Pilate Condemns Jesus

Topic: Pilate Condemns Jesus [Monday December 4, 2017]

Matthew 27:24 “When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.”

This washing of the hands was not only a symbolic custom of the day that showed innocence, but was also a ritual prescribed in the Jewish law (Dt. 21:6-7; Ps. 26:6).

Matthew is the only writer to record Pilate washing his hands of guilt, just as he was the only writer to record Pilate’s wife coming to him with the details of the dream she had about Jesus. Secular accounts record her name as Claudia. She is the only one who spoke for, instead of against Jesus’ life during the trial.

This dream, no doubt came from God, since Claudia would have had to dreamt it before she knew of Jesus being brought to Pilate. Not only did the Lord bare witness in Pilate’s heart to the innocence of Jesus, but He also gave Pilate’s wife a very clear message through this dream. Pilate was not innocent in this matter. Together, these instances underscore that Pilate did not innocently condemn Jesus to death. Pilate will be trying to wash the blood of Jesus off his hands throughout eternity.

Just as God was faithful to show even Pilate the truth in this situation, we can be assured that every person who has ever rejected Jesus has done it in spite of the conviction of the Holy Spirit in his heart (Rom. 1:18-20).

Billy Graham’s Daily 4 December 2017 Devotional: No Reason to Hurry

Billy Graham’s Daily 4 December 2017 Devotional: No Reason to Hurry

Topic: No Reason to Hurry [Monday December 4, 2017]

When your patience is finally in full bloom, then you will be ready for anything, strong in character . . . — James 1:4 (TLB)

This is a high-strung, neurotic, impatient age. We hurry when there is no reason to hurry—just to be hurrying. This fast-paced age has produced more problems and less morality than previous generations, and it has given all of us jangled nerves. Impatience has produced a new crop of broken homes, or more new ulcers, and has set the stage for more world wars.

Prayer for the day: May my heart be still amid all the turmoil, as I remember Your patience with me, Lord Jesus.

Written by Billy Graham, Founder of Billy Graham Evangelistic Association(BGEA). BGEA exists to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ by every effective means and to equip the church and others to do the same.
