Archbishop Justin Welby voices concern at people in work using foodbanks

Justin Welby said the majority of visitors to foodbanks were in work, as he reiterated his calls for more to be done to tackle poverty.

There has been growing concern around so-called in-work poverty, with research suggesting more than five million working people in the UK are earning below the real living wage.

Asked about the economy, the Archbishop told ITV’s Peston on Sunday: “It’s obviously producing very good jobs, there’s a lot of jobs at the moment, there’s low unemployment, there’s good news.

“But the thing we see in the Church of England, and with the other churches, all the other churches together, is that at our foodbanks now the majority of people who come to the foodbanks are in work.

“That is a sign that work is not lifting people out of poverty in the way that we would hope in a society that is just.”

He went on to call for investment in areas such as skills and apprenticeships.

Five Key Steps to Reach and Retain Guests

We are living in a world of post cultural Christianity. Our churches can no longer expect guests to show up just because we have the doors open. We have to be prayerful. We have to be intentional.

This post is, by its nature, very practical. But it can be a positive step in Great Commission obedience as you seek to expose people to the gospel and create more gospel conversations.

These, then, are five key steps to reach and retain guests. Most of these can be implemented in your church right away.

  1. Create a culture of inviting. One of the primary reasons our churches do not have guests is straightforward: We are not inviting people to come. In my research for the book, The Unchurched Next Door, we found that nearly eight of ten unchurched persons would come to church if we invited them and accompanied them to the worship services. If we invite them, they will truly come. I will address this issue more fully next week.
  2. Make certain you have a positive “guest flow.” Nelson Searcy, in his book Fusion, created this guide for the number of first-time guests each week in our worship services. If the number of first-time guests in your church is fewer than 5, you need to find out where the challenges reside.
  • 3 first-time guests for every 100 in worship attendance: maintenance mode
  • 5 first-time guests for every 100 in worship attendance: growth mode
  • 7 first-time guests for every 100 in worship attendance: rapid growth mode
  1. Be prepared for the guests when they arrive. The studies we have seen indicate…

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 27 November 2017 Devotional: You’re No Surprise to God

Joyce Meyer's Daily 27 November 2017 Devotional: You're No Surprise to God

Topic: Pursue a Life of Holiness [Monday November 27, 2017]

But as the One Who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all your conduct and manner of living. — 1 Peter 1:15

Do you ever feel like God is disappointed with you? I used to feel this way until one day He said, “You know, Joyce, you’re no surprise to Me. I knew what I was getting when I got you.”

Think about it! God knows the end from the beginning, and all the days of our lives are written in His book. Every decision we’re ever going to make, good or bad, God already knew them before we ever showed up on planet Earth. He already knows today every word in our mouth that is still unuttered—even what we’re going to say a year from now.

Sometimes we go around thinking that God is so disappointed with us all the time. It’s true that we make mistakes. And we’re not supposed to be lighthearted about them—we need to take them seriously. But in spite of our mistakes, God has hope for us and knows He can change us if we’ll stay close to Him.

God’s not disappointed. He’s full of hope where we’re concerned! He believes in us more than we do ourselves.

Prayer Starter: Lord, Your hope for me is so encouraging and inspiring. Even when I don’t believe in myself, I know You do, and that gives me the strength to overcome my mistakes and follow You.

Teens’ Open Heavens 27 November 2017 by Pastor Adeboye - A Liberal Heart?

Topic: A Liberal Heart? [Monday 27, November 2017]

Memorise: “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” – Luke 6:38

Read: Proverbs 11:25

“The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”

Bible In One Year: Romans 8-10. Hymn: Sing Hymn 4 — Take My Life And Let It Be

MESSAGE:

When it comes to giving, the truth of the matter is that what you give may leave your hand, but it never leaves your life. It is to our own advantage to meet the needs of others around us. When you meet the needs of the Almighty God, He will in turn meet your needs. The truth is that God is the only one who doesn’t have a need. Whenever He tells you He has a need, it is only a way to set you up for a miracle. Every child of God should have a giving heart. You must be very generous in giving as you have been blessed by the Almighty God.

Those who never give will continue to beg. You must never be tired of giving because the reward for your giving will never miss you. Solomon was a rypocsl example of someone who was a cheerful giver. No wonder God prospered him. God gave him more than he ever demanded. There are rewards for the act of giving. The one who gives freely will be taken care of by God. The one who finds it difficult to give will also find it difficult to receive.

Key Point: Your life isn’t meaningful until you answer to the needs of others.

Sing Hymn 4: Take My Life And Let It Be

1. Take my life, and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.

2. Take my hands, and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee,
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice, and let me sing
Always, only, for my King;
Take my lips, and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee,
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold;
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect, and use
Every power as Thou shalt choose,
Every power as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will, and make it Thine;
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is Thine own;
It shall be Thy royal throne,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love; my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee,
Ever, only, all for Thee.

TREM’s Daily 27 November 2017 Devotional by Dr. Mike Okonkwo - Just Receive It By Faith

Topic: Just Receive It By Faith — Monday November 27, 2017.

“To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.” (Ephesians 1:6 KJV)

 Child of God, stand firm in the love of God. Feed yourself with the nourishment of God’s love knowing that you have been accepted in the beloved. God has accepted you. In Christ, you are the beloved of God. In Christ, you have been set free from the demands of the law. In Christ, the law has been rolled away. Why?  Because as long as the law remains in the way, you cannot enjoy all that God has made available to you in Christ.

It is written: “But to him that worketh not, but believes on him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” (Romans 4:5 KJV) God justifies the ungodly. So if you are ungodly, you are qualified through the finished work of Jesus on the cross. Therefore, you cannot be denied. I declare to you that sickness and disease die today in your body.  It is already done you cannot be stopped. You cannot be denied by the virtue of the finished work of Christ. Receive your healing for your body because the price has been fully paid.  It is done! It is not up to you, but up to Him.

Christ has finished the work. God has perfected it, therefore you are entitled to your request. It is your birth-right. Don’t struggle to take it. Just receive it by faith. Just like a child will go to the Father, ask and receive knowing the father has it. The child does not struggle to receive from his father. That is the way it is in the kingdom. You receive it by faith in the expectation that it is done. Don’t let the devil lie to you about your healing, because it is already done. God has perfected EVERYTHING that concerns you. Don’t fall for the smokescreen of the devil. I have said it over and over again, and I will keep saying it unto you come to terms with it: THE PRICE HAS BEEN PAID IN FULL. So, I declare that the struggle is over in your life. All that God has made available to you will gravitate to you.

DCLM Daily Manna 27 November, 2017 by Pastor Kumuyi – Come Back Home

Topic: Come Back Home — Monday November 27, 2017.

Text: Job 34:31-37

Key Verse: “That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more” (Job 34:32).

The courage to make amends is a proof of genuine spiritual transformation and desire for spiritual progress and promotion. Many who have strayed away from home and happiness often delude themselves with excuses and reasons for staying away. But the prodigal son would ever be remembered and commended for his decision to go back home and reconcile with his father – even when he felt he had disappointed his father woefully and as such had lost the status and privileges of a true son (Luke 15:17-22).

Repentance from sin and all dead works is central to reconciliation, pardon, peace, worship and fellowship with God. The counsel of Elihu, Job’s friend in our text is a wise and timely one which resonates each time the gospel is presented to those who have gone astray. Repentant sinners should be humble and earnest to ask God for help to understand their faults and resolutely plead for grace never to repeat such sinful acts. Indeed, it is worth crying out to God like Elihu had rightly counseled “…if I have done iniquity, I will do no more” (Job 34:32b).

This is the only way of securing the mercies of God for the penitent sinner who desires to return home to make peace with God. In a world like ours where godly and moral standards have been terribly compromised, seekers after God must humbly pray for spiritual enlightenment and grace to follow the right way and constantly say no to all evil. Our God is so faithful to pardon and welcome every returning prodigal child home. Even so, believers must not lower the gospel standard in the bid to save the lost. Repentance from all sin, not health and wealth theology, must be the cardinal point of our gospel message.

Thought for the day: In repentance and rest shall every sinner find respite.

Our Daily Manna November 27, 2017: ODM devotional – Cloning: The Time of the End

Our Daily Manna November 27, 2017: ODM devotional – Cloning: The Time of the End

Topic — Cloning: The Time of the End [Monday, November 27, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: Daniel 12:1-13

Cloning of human being could possibly be the latest medical controversy in the world today. HUMAN CLONING is a process whereby you produce a person out of a person without sperm cells. Its emphasis is using body cells and accelerating their growth.

You can now get a carbon copy of a person in just 6 months by taking a woman’s eggs and many part of her or any or any human body cells without a man’s sperm. Indeed, a man who believed that aliens visited the earth some 25,000 years ago and created every form of life, claimed recently to have cloned the world’s first baby. Don’t forget that since the world’s first test-tube was produce 24 years ago, there are now about 250,000 children ‘created’ technology

Now it is HUMAN CLONING! The first cloned baby was named Eve in 2002 and people can now take the cell of the dead relative, fuse with many egg, and produce the carbon copy of that person. The first reaction worldwide was that of shock. However, as these signals begin to emerge, the words of Daniel 12:4 become so real: “Seal the book, even to the times of the end: many shall run to and fro and knowledge shall be increased.” our daily manna prophecies

Note: KNOWLEDGE SHALL BE INCREASED! Also, “MANY RUNING TO AND FRO,” means international researches in search of knowledge! Wow! KNOWLEDGE SHAL BE INCREASED! HUMAN CLONING is still a controversy, not fully accepted in the scientific world and sounds unbiblical, but I hope you know that JEHOVAH ADONAI created the eggs of the woman and cells of the body which scientists are using!

The emphasis in today’s devotional however, is that we are in the times of the end. Can you doubt that? It is time to sit up and take stock daily of your life in this planet. If the rapture should take place now, are you really sure that your name is still in the Book of Life? Do a self-check/examination and may we meet at the Foursquare City! Live as if Christ died yesterday and is coming back today!

PLAN TO ATTEND THE LAGOS MOUNTAIN LAST ANOINTING SERVICE OF 2017 ON December 9th; TIME: 8an-11.30am. VENUE IS OGUDU MOUNTAIN!

Prayer Points: Take any song of worship as led.

1. Pray about the word and rededicate your life to God today.

2. Lord, shake out of my life and cleanse me from whatever will stop me from making it to the end in Jesus name.

3. My name shall not be missing from the Book if Life! Mention the names of other believer and pray that their soul will be saved till the end. Pray about today as led.

In the storms of life, ODM is LIFE’S PARACHUTE. Give a soul/family the fortitude to get in touch with ODM.

Topic: Knowing Better — Monday November 27, 2017.

Read: 2 Kings 22:1–4, 8–13, Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 30–32; 1 Peter 4

When the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, he tore his robes. 2 Kings 22:11

When we brought our adoptive son home from overseas, I was eager to shower him with love and provide what he had lacked over the preceding months, especially quality food, since he had a nutritional deficit. But despite our best efforts, including consulting specialists, he grew very little. After nearly three years, we learned he had some severe food intolerances. After removing those items from his diet, he grew five inches in just a few months. While I grieved at how long I’d unwittingly fed him foods that impaired his growth, I rejoiced at this surge in his health!

I suspect Josiah felt similarly when the Book of the Law was discovered after having been lost in the temple for years. Just as I grieved having unintentionally hindered my son’s growth, Josiah grieved having ignorantly missed God’s fullest and best intentions for His people (2 Kings 22:11). Although he is commended for doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord (v. 2), he learned better how to honor God after finding the Law. With his newfound knowledge, he led the people to worship again as God had instructed them (23:22–23).

As we learn through the Bible how to honor Him, we may grieve the ways we’ve fallen short of God’s will for us. Yet we can be comforted that He heals and restores us, and leads us gently into deeper understanding.

Prayer: Thank You, God, for showing me how to live in a way that pleases You. I’m sorry for the ways I’ve not done that in the past. Help me to honor and obey You now.

God gives us a new start.

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland’s Daily November 27, 2017 Devotional: Occupy Till Jesus Comes

Kenneth and Gloria Copeland’s Daily November 27, 2017 Devotional: Occupy Till Jesus Comes

Topic: Occupy Till Jesus Comes [Monday November 27, 2017]

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. – Ephesians 6:13-17

The Bible teaches that as believers, you and I are to occupy until Jesus comes. Occupy is a military term meaning to hold possession, or control, of conquered troops and territory. If we’re to do that effectively, most of us are going to have to change our attitudes. We’re going to have to recognize that Jesus has already won the victory.

That’s right. Satan is already defeated. He was whipped at Calvary. We’re not on the defensive—he is!

What’s more, Jesus has given you His very own armor and sword to use to keep that defeated devil in line. You may be a 90-pound weakling on your own, but if you’ll put on God’s armor, the devil will never know it. He’ll run from you just like you were Jesus.

Think about it. What would you do if you were the devil and you came face to face with some fellow wearing God’s armor and God’s helmet with God’s weapons in each hand? As long as that fellow only spoke God’s words, you would think that must be God inside there!

Don’t neglect any of the armor you’ve been given. Wear it all. Keep the devil on the defensive—and occupy till Jesus comes!

Andrew Wommack’s Daily 27 November 2017 Devotional: The Sword Is The Word

Topic: The Sword Is The Word [Monday November 27, 2017]

John 18:36 “Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.”

Text: John 18:33-37

Christ’s kingdom is spiritual, in the hearts of men – not physical; therefore, our fight as Christians must not be with carnal weapons but with spiritual weapons (2 Cor. 10:3-5). Spiritual forces cannot be defeated with human weapons.

When we are being attacked for being a part of Christ’s kingdom, we must fight with spiritual weapons. Our warfare is not against people, but against the spiritual powers that operate behind the scenes through people. We must realize who the real enemy is and fight with the spiritual weapons the Lord has given us.

We often think that anger will put a person in his place. But “the wrath of man does not work the righteousness of God” (Jas. 1:20). Anger displayed against people puts us right into the hand of the devil. The way to overcome the spiritual powers that come against us through people is to turn the other cheek (Mt. 5:39). That makes the demons flee in terror.

One of the main weapons the Apostle Paul speaks of is the Gospel, which is the Sword of the Spirit, (the Word of God). It’s the Word backed by God’s Spirit that can pull down and crush the strongholds of Satan.

Every Christian is at war. There is a perpetual struggle against Satan and his kingdom from which there are no “leaves” or “discharges.” Our enemy goes about as a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Pet. 5:8). Those who resist the devil will see him flee (Jas. 4:7). The only ones whom he devours are those who don’t actively fight against him.
