Retired bishop of London appointed life peer

The Rt Rev Richard Chartres, who retired in March this year, will sit as an independent crossbencher.

Lord Chartres, 70, was flanked by supporters Baroness O’Neill of Bengarve and Lord Luce as he swore the oath of allegiance to the Queen.

As bishop of London, he was one of the 26 senior members of the Church of England, known as the Lords Spiritual, entitled to sit on the red benches of the unelected upper house. Others include the Archbishops of Canterbury and of York.

Five Reasons Thankful Pastors Are Doing So Well in Ministry

As I was trying to discern some of the qualities and characteristics of pastors who are doing really well in ministry, I was surprised that the most common trait was an attitude of abundant gratitude.

Simply stated, pastors who have an attitude of continuous gratitude are doing very well in ministry. They are joyous pastors. They serve joyous congregations. They see a steady flow of first-time guests at their churches. And they are more likely to see many church members growing as more devoted followers of Christ.

Why? Why are thankful pastors doing so well in ministry? As I have come to know these pastors, I see five common answers to this question.

  1. Thankful pastors are focused on that which really matters. We have a limited amount of emotional energy. We can choose to focus on the energy drainers or those things that renew our energy. Thankful pastors focus less on critics because they are focusing on the blessings of God. They are able to see more clearly God’s vision for the church, because they are seeing the good things God has already done through their attitude of thanksgiving.
  2. Thankful pastors have a contagious attitude. The church often takes on the personality of the pastor. If the pastor is legalistic, the church is legalistic. If the pastor has a dreary demeanor, the church follows. But if the pastor is continuously thankful, the congregation becomes a thankful church. That’s a fun and joyous place to be.
  3. Thankful pastors attract those who are not yet in church. They remind me…

Aled Jones’ family reveals allegation ‘hell’

Elaine Fossett told the MailOnline that the 46-year-old Songs of Praise presenter was “as capable of sexual harassment as Mother Teresa”.

Referring to a report of inappropriate behaviour made against her son-in-law, the 74-year-old also said: “It is utterly, utterly appalling.

“It is destroying my family’s life… they are going through hell and most undeservedly so.”

The Walking In The Air singer said on Sunday that he was “deeply sorry” for any upset caused but strongly denied any inappropriate contact.

A spokesman said for Mr Jones, who married his wife Claire in 2001, had voluntarily agreed to stay off-air, pending an investigation by the BBC.

In a statement, they added: “Whilst he accepts that his behaviour over a decade ago was occasionally juvenile, as was that of others, he never intended to harass or distress and he strongly denies any inappropriate contact.

“He is, however, deeply sorry for any upset caused and hopes this matter is resolved soon.”

The spokesman said the allegation, which dates back more than a decade, did not relate to broadcast work.

Mythical Device to Arrive Next Year Despite Microsoft’s Announcement on Killing the Windows Phone

REUTERS/Morris Mac Matzen/FilesA Microsoft representative shows a smartphone with Windows 10 operating system at the CeBIT trade fair in Hanover in this file photo from March 15, 2015. Rumors claim that the next mobile device from Microsoft is Surface Phone.

While it was already announced that Microsoft is killing its Windows Phone, the latest rumors claim that the company is releasing its mythical Surface Phone next year.

There is no denying that the Surface Phone has been one of the most anticipated and talked-about mobile devices. However, with Microsoft confirming last month that it was killing its Windows Phone, it was also reported that the device, despite not having been confirmed by the company itself, has been canceled as well.

However, according to recent reports, Microsoft may be releasing the Surface Phone next year, and it is alleged to impress with its high-end features, including its long-rumored foldable design. Allegedly, the device will also boast of an aluminum body, AMOLED edge-to-edge display, and

While it remains to be seen whether the Surface Phone is really in existence, other sources claim that Microsoft has replaced the mysterious device with the Andromeda, carrying with it the supposed features originally associated with the Surface Phone. Reportedly, the supposed device is not the Surface Phone as some suspected but will be under a new category of mobile device that the Redmond-based company will introduce. Allegedly, this new type of mobile device will be powered by Windows Core OS that Microsoft is currently developing.

Whether it is called the Surface Phone or…

Church hall fire sparks candle warning

The blaze at St Mary’s Church Hall on St Alphonsus Road in Clapham early on Tuesday has prompted crews to warn against leaving flames unattended.

A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade said: “Candles are one of the most common causes of fire.

“It’s really important that you never leave a candle unattended and put them out before going to sleep.

“Candles should be kept well away from curtains and anything else that can easily catch fire.”

One person was treated by paramedics at the scene for smoke inhalation after flames damaged a room on the first floor of the two and three-storey building.

Crews from fire stations in Clapham, Brixton and Battersea were called to St Mary’s Church Hall shortly before 5.30am on Tuesday.

They say the fire was under control by 6.36am.

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 22 November 2017 Devotional: The Key to Possessing Your Promised Land

Joyce Meyer's Daily 22 November 2017 Devotional: The Key to Possessing Your Promised Land

Topic: The Key to Possessing Your Promised Land [Wednesday November 22, 2017]

Return to the stronghold [of security and prosperity], you prisoners of hope; even today do I declare that I will restore double your former prosperity to you. — Zechariah 9:12

God wants to lead you into your promised land…after all, you have been recreated in Christ, born anew, that you might live the good life that He prearranged for you. But to follow God into that life, He will have to prepare you first, and that means some things will need to change.

Now, don’t be afraid of the word change; it just means that you stop doing some things you’ve been doing and start doing some things you haven’t been doing. For example, stop thinking negative thoughts and start thinking positively…stop settling in your comfort zone and step out of the boat…stop procrastinating and start taking the opportunities that arise.

It’s not enough to just read about and talk about the Promised Land. Decide that you are going to possess your promised land. God is good; He will lead you there. Just be willing to follow and accept the positive changes that God wants to bring to your life as He prepares you to be a blessing to others.

Prayer Starter: Holy Spirit, show me the changes I need to make in order to possess my promised land. Thank You for preparing me to be a blessing to others and fulfill the destiny You have for me.

Our Daily Manna November 22, 2017: ODM devotional – John Adams: I Am Not A ‘Spare Tyre’

Our Daily Manna November 22, 2017: ODM devotional – John Adams: I Am Not A 'Spare Tyre'

Topic — John Adams: I Am Not A ‘Spare Tyre’ [Wednesday, November 22, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 12:12-27

In the constitution of most countries, the position of the vice president or the deputy governor of a State, is like that of a spare tyre in a vehicle. The function of a spare tyre is to allow the journey to continue when the tyre burst. However, the extra tyre becomes useless if the tyre does not busrt throughout its many years of usage. This seems to erroneously imply that vice president or deputy governor have no constitutional roles, except what the president or governor assigns to them. They are therefore like handbags, figureheads and glorified errand boys sentenced to agonizing years of permanent redundancy.

A very prominent victim of this painful example was the deputy (vice) president of the USA in 1789, Mr. John Adams. No responsibility was assigned to him throughout his two year tenure as VP. He later became president after George Washington! Aren’t you glad that in our constitution (the Word of God), no believer is redundant and every child of God is very crucial and important to God’s end time move on planet earth? 1 Cor. 12:18 screams aloud: “God set the members every one of them in the body as it hath pleased Him.” Vs 22 in the Amplified Bible is wonderful: “There is (absolute) necessity for the parts of the body that are considered the more weak.”

What a joy! Let your local church feel your greater impact from this week because you are very important in God’s agenda. In your neighborhood, you are important! Never feel inferior! You are a joint heirs of God’s riches. Don’t insult God by feeling ashamed of yourself! You have value! Be proud of yourself in God! Be bold! You are not a spare tyre in that church, marriage, office or community. Increase your value! Become all you have the possibility of becoming. Maximize your potentials. Stretch yourself to the limit. This generation is waiting for your manifestation! Peace!

TREM’s Daily 22 November 2017 Devotional by Dr. Mike Okonkwo – Don’t Abort Your Miracle

TREM’s Daily 22 November 2017 Devotional by Dr. Mike Okonkwo - Don’t Abort Your Miracle

Topic: Don’t Abort Your Miracle — Wednesday November 22, 2017.

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV)

Even though your victory as a child of God is already assured, do you know that you can abort your miracle through negative confession? Often times we give in to pressure and exchange the symptom for the real thing. Yes, you have prayed and God has assured you of your healing, but the symptom is still there. Understand that the devil actually intensifies the symptom to make you confess negative and of course whatever you confess you receive. So when he backs you to the wall and applies pressure, rather than confess negative, choose to praise the Lord. No wonder God commands us to give thanks in all things. You may not know how, you may not know when, but be rest assured that He will do it.

Rather than say the wrong thing, search the scriptures for a word that promises you what you are asking God for. Meditate on the word and begin to thank Him for the manifestation. Thank Him for what He has done even though you have not seen anything yet. Keep confessing what you expect, and pretty soon what you confess will line up with what your expectations and you will take delivery of your miracle. Confessing what you want to see simply means you are assured in your heart that your expectations shall not be cut short. When you agree with what God has said about you, you are simply demonstrating your faith. You are set to take delivery of all that God has packaged for you. Mary said in Luke 1:38 (KJV), ‘’…be it unto me according to your word…’’ In other words, she put the responsibility of seeing the prophecy come to pass squarely on God.

In addition, don’t join the company of those who just say the wrong things out of frustration. When people around you are complaining about the economy, choose rather to say that your economy is at its best. Remember that when men shall say there is a casting down, you shall say there is a lifting up. Today, as you begin to confess your expectation, I declare that you will not be denied.
