Beware These 7 Gospel-Distortions – Christian News Headlines

Editor’s note: Though this article was written primarily for women in ministry, there are truths here that go beyond gender or calling. We hope you’re able to heed these warnings—and embrace God’s truth—in place of the counterfeit gospels that surround us today. The author, Kristen Wetherell, is a writer, Bible teacher, and the content manager at Unlocking the Bible.

A dear friend of mine worked in a bank overseas for about a year, handling large amounts of money. During training, she had to study various bills and learn their details so she could easily discern counterfeits if they came along.

She studied the real thing so she could identify distortions.

The same goes for the gospel of Jesus Christ. As leaders in the church, we want to be women equipping women to know the gospel so we can identify false “gospels” and grasp how the truth applies to our lives.

But where do we start?

Before you start, build the foundation.

RCCG Sunday School Students Manual 19th November 2017 Lesson 12 — The Anointing Of The Holy Spirit

RCCG Sunday School Students Manual 19th November 2017 Lesson 12 — The Anointing Of The Holy Spirit

TOPIC: The Anointing Of The Holy Spirit [Sunday, 19th November 2017]

MEMORY VERSE: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.”Acts 10:38

BIBLE PASSAGE: Acts 4:5-20

INTRODUCTION:

We have studied how to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit and the actual baptism. We also gave considerations to the Baptiser and the evidence of baptism. Today, by the special grace of God, we shall be looking at the Anointing – what it is exactly and the conditions for maintaining the flow.

LESSON OUTLINES:

1. What exactly is anointing?

2. Conditions for maintaining the flow

WHAT EXACTLY IS ANOINTING:

Anointing is the outflow of the Holy Spirit through a sanctified vessel. It is a divine enabling grace (Acts 4:5-20). It is likened unto Rain (Zechariah 10:1; Joel 2:23), but it is neither the “WELL” of water springing up into everlasting life (John 4:14), nor the flowing “RIVERS” of living water (John 7:38) for these are referring to the operations of the Holy Ghost at the new birth and at baptism of believers (not of water) respectively. This is the Rain of the POWER of God from above to increase the water levels of both the “WELL” and the “RIVER” to bring about the overflow (Luke 4:18-19). The anointing determines the volume of water in the rivers, which in turn determines the functions to which they can be put. Similarly, for example, the level of anointing in a man determines the number of people he can carry along or his productivity as a man of God e.g. compare (Acts 2:41) with (Acts 4:8-32) when 3,000 (three thousand) and multitudes of people received Christ respectively after baptism in the Holy Ghost. The Lord Jesus, as a perfect example, came under a strong anointing and His fame went abroad (Acts 10:38). It makes the Christian life active and full of results. As it were, it enthrones the believer (John 14:12, 1Peter 2:9, Revelations 1:6). The anointing breaks every yoke of the devil and demolishes any spiritual mountain (Isaiah 10:27).

CONDITIONS FOR MAINTAINING THE FLOW

1. Love for righteousness, hatred for iniquity. The Lord Jesus never ran out of anointing because He loved righteousness and hated iniquity (Hebrew 1:9, John 14:30). Sin places a limit on anointing. Paul, a successful Apostle, was no exception (1Thessalonians 2:10). God enjoins us to “DO” righteousness also (1John 3:7).

2. Walking in love: If a believer is to constantly flow in anointing, love for God, himself, the ministry, the church and people in general must be paramount. A release of fresh anointing always follows the compassionate feelings of the Lord Jesus (John 11:35, 43-44, Mark 6:34-41).

3. Living a life of praise: A life of praise increases the flow of anointing (Exodus 15:11). Murmuring and complaints keep anointing far away, so do not engage in either.

CONCLUSION:

All true believers that want to succeed in the pilgrims’ way must equally desire ever flowing anointing. The kingdom of God is not in words but in the demonstration of the spirit and power of God.

QUESTIONS:

1. Define anointing

2. What are the conditions for maintaining the flow of anointing?

Bible scholars aiming to produce the most accurate edition of the New Testament

The new edition, which was printed in its original Greek, was published on Wednesday by researchers from Tyndale House, a bible research institute in Cambridge.

Dr Dirk Jongkind, vice-principal of the institute, explained to The Times the motive behind the new publication.

He said: “There are errors that have been copied and transcribed [over the centuries].

“The advantage of knowing the whole transmission history is that you can see when certain errors were introduced and how they became almost universally accepted.”

The new version took ten years to produce and the researchers have said it could pave the way for more accurate English translations.

The New Testament was originally written in an early form of Greek in the first century but was translated into Latin.

A new edition was published in the original Greek by Dutch Renaissance humanist Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus, in 1516, which relied on early texts.

Dr Jongkind explained errors in earlier versions of the New Testament occurred for a number of reasons including when scribes included elements from Matthew’s gospel while transcribing Mark’s because they wrote from memory.

He said: Previous editors have allowed themselves considerable liberty in standardising spelling, making paragraph divisions, deciding punctuation and other matters.

“This may hide significant data about the origin and even interpretation of the Greek New Testament.”

Christians Must Not Keep Church and Work Life Separate, Business Leader Says

(Photo: Creative Commons via Cubespace/Asa Wilson)Cubicles in a now-defunct co-working space in Portland, Oregon.

A Christian business executive believes workers should not place their faith life and employment in separate “silos,” but rather should think of them as “one circle.”

David Ridley, chief executive officer of the Invesco Alternatives Group (USA) at Invesco Ltd, said in a podcast posted online Tuesday with Dallas Theological Seminary professor Darrell Bock that he used to have a different “silo” for each aspect of his life.

“When I was a younger man, I literally had my life figured out this way. I had my church silo, or circle, I had my family next, and then I had my business next, and then I had my physical fitness circle,” explained Ridley.

“And God told me one time, I’ll never forget it, the most amazing thing. ‘There’s only one circle, Dave. Only one circle.’ And this was 10 years ago or more, and I realized it’s all the same. It’s all the same.”

Ridley told Bock that he “learned not to silo those” things, but instead “to bring all those together.” He hopes to see others in the Church do likewise.
