ISIS Threatens to Attack Vatican on Christmas

ISIS Threatens to Attack Vatican on Christmas

The Islamic State has threatened to attack the Vatican on Christmas, in what they are calling a “Christmas blood” attack.

In a propaganda video released by ISIS supporters, a masked figure is shown driving toward the Vatican with a gun and a backpack, supposedly containing a bomb. The video is accompanied by the words “Christmas blood. So wait…”

According to Fox News, Christmas is historically a time when ISIS has stepped up their attacks. One such attack occurred in 2015, when a terrorist who had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State carried out an attack in San Bernardino, California which killed 14 people.

The terrorist group is especially looking for opportunities to be on the offensive since they are losing more and more ground in the Middle East, the seat of their so-called “caliphate.” Terror experts have warned that, because the Islamic State has lost territory they previously controlled, they may focus their efforts on isolated attacks in various parts of the world.

ISIS militants see the Vatican as a prime target because it represents Christianity and the West. Security is being stepped up in the Vatican and in other places around the world as the holiday season approaches.

The Marriage Foundation says Christians shouldn’t oppose reforming divorce laws

Former High Court judge Sir Paul Coleridge, who is the charity’s founder, said it is necessary for these laws to be changed.

Speaking during Premier News Hour, he said: “There is no serious family lawyer now in England now who would advocate the retention of the present system.

“It’s a sham and it’s a joke and it does harm to couples at a very difficult time in their lives when they’re going through separation.

“I’m a Christian myself, and the reality is, whether we like it or not… some relationships don’t work and I set up Marriage Foundation obviously in order to preserve marriage.

“The last thing that I want to do is see any system brought in that will make it easier for people to get divorced.

“There are a number of people who can’t make it work and it’s no good the state locking them together and then refusing to allow them to separate in a sensible and civilised way – it simply makes matters worse.”

His comments follow a report published two weeks ago by the Nuffield Foundation, which condemned divorce laws in England and Wales for forcing couples to have to allege fault or blame.

A majority of divorce petitions in England and Wales still rely on allegations of fault.

In 1990 a Law Commission report set out six problems with fault-based divorce, including that the law was confusing and misleading, discriminatory and unjust, distorted bargaining positions, provoked unnecessary hostility, and made…

Imprisoned Pastor Andrew Brunson’s Daughter Gives Impassioned Plea for Father’s Release

Imprisoned Pastor Andrew Brunson’s Daughter Gives Impassioned Plea for Father’s Release

The daughter of an imprisoned American pastor testified at the U.S. Helsinki Commission hearing this week that her father is being wrongfully jailed in a Turkish prison.

Jacqueline Furnari and the American Center for Law and Justice asked that Congress help secure the release of her father, American pastor Andrew Brunson.

“My husband and I decided to have a civil ceremony and to postpone our wedding until my father is home,” Furnari said. “I’m still waiting for my wedding. I’m still waiting to wear that wedding dress that I got almost a year and a half ago.

“I’m still waiting for my dad to walk me down the aisle, and I’m still waiting for that father-daughter dance,” she continued her heartfelt plea.

Brunson has been in prison in Turkey for more than 400 days, according to CBN News.

He face charges of espionage, acquiring secret political and military information, attempting to destroy constitutional order and overthrowing the Turkish parliament. He has not been formally charged with these crimes, however, said CeCe Heil, executive counsel for the ACLJ.

“Pastor Brunson maintains his innocence and denies all the accusations,” she said.

President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have both personally requested his release, but the Turkish government has refused.

“While Pastor Brunson has been in prison, he has lost over 50…

French top court bans Christmas nativity scenes from public buildings

The decision of the Council of State relates to the Nativity scene that the Mayor of Béziers (a French town in Occitaine) Robert Ménard had installed in the Town Hall in 2014. In 2015 and 2016, a crèche was again installed but with a “more cultural and festive dimension“, accompanied by a Christmas tree and a mailbox to write to Santa Claus, Ménard said in April 2017.

The Council of State ruled that Christmas nativity scenes are legal in other public spaces as long as they are not proselytising.

Secularism was a founding principle of the French Republic and was enshrined in a 1905 law separating Church and State.

Open Heavens 18 November 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Only An Honour

Open Heavens 18 November 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Only An Honour

Topic: Only An Honour — Saturday 18, November 2017.

Memorise: For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it? 1 Corinthians 4:7

Read: Proverbs 3:9-10 (KJV)

9 Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

10 So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

Bible in One Year: Psalm 9-16, Amos 8, Hymn: Sing Hymn 14 – Take My Life

MESSAGE:

In our Bible reading, we are enjoined to honour the Lord with our first fruits. What does the word ‘honour’ really mean? Honour can be viewed from the perspective of giving a person something he or she doesn’t really need. We see a manifestation of this in the academia. When universities or colleges want to give honorary degrees, they look for people who don’t need money, academic qualifications or any such things, and they honour them with a degree. This is why it is called an honorary degree. They give such degrees to eminent personalities, people of proven abilities and achievers in different fields. This is comparable to the way God operates. What money can you give to the One who created the heavens and the earth? What can you give to the One who owns all silver and gold? He says to us, “If you come to the city where I reside, what is most precious to you on earth is what the streets are made of. So what do you want to give me that I don’t have already?” Therefore, whatever we think we can give to God can only reasonably be given in honour of Him.

“For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?” – 1 Corinthians 4:7

Coming up next: Open Heavens 19 November 2017: Sunday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Listen To Elders

When we speak about giving God something, is it really so? What do we have that we have not received from Him? If we have indeed received all we have from Him, it clearly shows that we are simply giving back to Him out of what He gave us. When we were still living in our first house in the Redemption Camp, my little children held a meeting in the room one Christmas season, and they sent the youngest, who was about four years old then, to ask me what I wanted for Christmas. I said I would like a jet. He said they weren’t proposing that kind of gift, and so I asked for a pen. He ran back to the room to meet the others, and he later came back to me asking me to lend him N10. I gave it to him without asking what he wanted it for because I knew the purpose. So at Charismas time, I got a beautifully wrapped gift. Even though I knew what was inside because it was bought with my money, I still gathered my children round and hug them, just for even thinking of giving me something at that tender age. This mirrors the relationship between God and His children. How often do you honour God?

Prayer Point: Father, grant me the grace to honour You in all I do, all the days of my life.

Hymn 14: Take My Life

1. Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.

2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.

3. Take my voice and let me sing,
Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.

4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.

5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.

6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.

Far from the Museum of the Bible, These Artists Use the Good Book as Their Medium

Far from the Museum of the Bible, These Artists Use the Good Book as Their Medium

In 2015, Montreal-based artist Guy Laramée placed a large-format Bible from the 19th century upright with the spine open. Then, using a power grinder, he carved a landscape into the pages and painted along the curvatures, evoking the space of a cave whittled into a sheer mountainside.

It is a beautiful summoning of desert spaces, conjuring the place of the biblical prophets. It is, however, an unusual treatment of the Good Book.

And it is one that would never find its way to the $500 million Museum of the Bible, opening Friday (Nov. 17)  in Washington, D.C. That museum is dedicated to the preservation and presentation of the sacred text through the ages.

Laramée, along with a number of contemporary artists, has been working with books not as muse, but as medium. You could call these artists book lovers, but only in the way that you could call Michelangelo a marble lover or Edward Scissorhands a tree lover.

The trade-offs involved in this sort of love become much more stark when the book in question is someone’s version of sacred scripture.

Artists such as Carole Kunstadt, Islam Aly and Jan Owen create their own sacred books, stitching together pages of handmade papers in creative ways, writing their own poems and prayers or carving symbolic designs out of the pages. The finished product is like a book yet also like a piece of sculpture….

Prayers for those involved in Buckinghamshire mid-air crash

Emergency services were called to Waddesdon, near Aylesbury at around midday after a helicopter and an aircraft crashed.

The Rev Mary Cruddas, team rector of the Schorne Benefice, which includes St Michael and All Angel’s in nearby Waddesdon, said in a statement that both churches would remain open for prayer.

She added: “Everyone is welcome to light a candle and hot drinks will be available at the back of the church.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this incident.”

Both aircraft came from Wycombe Air Park around 20 miles away – which offers flight training for new pilots.

Air crash investigators have been called to the crash site, in a dense woodland, alongside paramedics, firefighters and Thames Valley Police, who said the first priority was “preservation of life”.

Emergency services have revealed that the crash has resulted in “a number of casualties”.

It involved a helicopter and another aircraft – and happened just after midday.

RAF Halton, which is around 10 miles away, has said no military aircraft were involved.

Police are co-ordinating the response to the crash and warned there will be disruption to surrounding roads for the rest of the day.

The SCAS spokeswoman said: “We received the call at 12.09pm, for a mid-air collision involving a helicopter and an aircraft in Upper Winchendon, near Aylesbury.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including a Thames Valley air…
