Operation Christmas Child Delivers Gifts to Children Affected by Hurricane Irma

Operation Christmas Child is a wonderful ministry started by Samaritan’s Purse which involves people around the country packing shoeboxes full of gifts for children around the world.

This year, Samaritan’s Purse is delivering these packed shoeboxes as early Christmas gifts to children in Barbuda whose lives were turned upside down by the devastation of Hurricane Irma.

The Christian Post reports that about 250 children on the Caribbean island have received the shoebox gifts.

Texas pastor Mark Brumbelow, along with his wife, Cherry, whose home was destroyed in Hurricane Harvey, accompanied Samaritan’s Purse workers to distribute the gifts.

For the Brumbelows, the mission was very personal because they know exactly what it is like to have their lives affected by a destructive hurricane.

“Although we weren’t able to take all that they needed, praise God that we were able to take a shoebox and the recipients of these shoeboxes heard the Gospel message and it was so wonderfully presented that day,” said Mark, who is the pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Wild Peach, Texas.

“More than that, the shoeboxes just put smiles on their faces. Children that had so much to frown about had so much to smile about that day. It was just such a blessing to feel that joy and the excitement and be a part of that,” Mark continued.

The team who traveled to Barbuda…

Man Accidentally Shoots 81-Y-O Wife in Church While Discussing Gun Safety

(Photo: Facebook)Inside the First United Methodist Church in Tellico Plains, Tennessee.

Mayhem erupted at a Tennessee church Thursday after an elderly man celebrating at an early Thanksgiving event with other seniors accidentally shot his wheelchair bound wife during a gun safety discussion.

The couple’s family have asked that they remain unidentified for now but a report in The Washington Post said the man and his wife are members of the First United Method Church in Tellico Plains where the shooting happened.

Police say misinformation about what initially happened at the church sparked a brief lockdown at the local hospital and several local schools before police realized what really happened at the church.

Tellico Plains Police Chief Russ Parks explained that about 20 seniors were at the church having an early Thanksgiving meal. In light of the recent mass shootings that have taken place, including the massacre at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs in Texas, the group decided to discuss gun safety.

The 81-year-old shooter quickly volunteered to demonstrate, declaring: “Well, I’ve got my gun on me.”

Parks said the man pulled out his holster to reveal a .38-caliber Ruger handgun. He then removed the magazine, cleared the chamber and began showing the gun to the…

Shop owner sent Bible after deciding to open on Sunday

Leona Rawlinson received a letter from a local Day One group saying the day is for rest and worship.

The 40 year old owner of at Tweed Tastic in Stornoway claimed she has been harassed by ‘extremists’.

Rev Greg MacDonald is a local Free Church of Scotland minister and member of Day One, which was once known as The Lord’s Day Observance Society.

He told Premier News Hour the shop opening on Sunday is a major disappointment.

He said: “That’s always something that grieves us and upsets us, and it does so not because we want to cause any offence to anyone but because we’d far rather they came to hear the wonderful message of the Gospel.”

Rev MacDonald said major chains such as Tesco, Boots and Superdrug all close on Sundays on the islands so he is disappointed that a local business has chosen to open.

He said the Outer Hebrides had held on to Christian traditions for longer than the rest of the UK and warned that without a rest day on Sunday, people would be too busy to hear the Gospel.

He told Premier: “That’s the sadness you see so much across the country. When the Sunday goes, a special day, the day of worship and peace, sadly people tend to find their lives too busy to hear the Gospel.”

Rev MacDonald also said that he believes the business would flourish far better if it was only six days a week.

However, Western Isles Secular Society said in a statement:  “Leona’s is not the first business to be harassed in this cowardly manner and it probably won’t…

The Latest Debate in Micro-Chipping: Olympic Athletes

To combat the doping problem that commonly surrounds the Olympic Games, Mike Miller is considering the benefits of micro-chipping athletes. The Chief Executive for the World Olympic Association is investigating the benefits of this surging technological advancement. “I’m just throwing the idea out there,” he said. “I’m gauging reaction from people but we do need to think of new ways to protect clean sport.”

Radio-frequency identification, commonly referred to as RFID, has been introduced to track animals in case they get lost, and a variety of other beneficial uses have been proposed as well. Imagine not having to worry about our children being kidnapped, or having to dial 911. It’s this kind of evidence that could cause toleration of consumer tracking, and wage the chipping war from both sides. Liz McIntyre, a consumer privacy expert, takes aim at the downside of the RFID chips. She harkens that we live in a peaceful Democratic government now, but technology of this magnitude could be used to collect data by someone less than well-meaning should it ever fall into the wrong hands. “At any time, someone could use that power against us.”

“She likened modern human microchipping to the days of Hitler when Jews were issued punch cards with the help of IBM. These punch cards facilitated genocide and allowed Germans officers to easily identify Jews during the Holocaust.” The…

Billy Graham’s Longtime Photographer Dies; Once Declined Job Offer From President Johnson

(Photo: Reuters/Chris Keane)Evangelist Billy Graham speaks during a dedication service on the campus of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in Charlotte, North Carolina May 31, 2007.

Russ Busby, the longtime photographer of world-famous preacher Billy Graham, passed away following a battle with illness, leaving behind deep impressions and fond memories.

“He (Busby) was greatly trusted by Billy Graham because he just knew when to be around and when not to be around,” shared Blair Carlson, once the international Crusade director for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.

“He really could sense the atmosphere of the situation. He knew the power of photographs and the importance of documenting things, and he was absolutely superb in that. But it was balanced by a great sense that if it was a sensitive moment or Mr. Graham was praying with someone or something like that, he would stay out of the way.”

BGEA reported in an article highlighting Busby’s life and work that he passed away on Tuesday at 86 years of age after a long illness.

It noted that Busby first joined BGEA back in 1956, and traveled with Graham around the world for the better part of six decades, documenting his gospel ministry.

The article pointed out that Busby’s dedication to the ministry was so…

Bishop: internet not for kids

The global method of instantaneous communication was “intended for adults”, Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster John Sherrington told reporters on Friday.

Bishop John spoke as English and Welsh Catholic leaders officially endorsed of a call by Pope Francis for governments and internet companies to better-protect children from “multiple dangers” posed by the internet.

Following a three-day meeting in Leeds this week, the bishops announced their support for the Declaration of Rome which was issued by the Vatican in October.

Diocese of Westminster

They said in a statement: “We challenge internet providers to take account of their responsibilities and to invest in measures to limit and control the deeply damaging ways in which the internet is used.”

Leaders warned that “damaging consequences” have arisen from “unthinkingly” making the internet available to children.

Their statement continued: “We now see so many people acknowledging that they are addicted to its use and to the pornography which is so readily available there.

“The internet has also become a major means of the abuse of children, of blackmail and new forms of degrading slavery.”

House Passes $1.5 Trillion Tax Reform Bill

House Passes $1.5 Trillion Tax Reform Bill

Republican Congress members in the House of Representatives passed a $1.5 trillion tax reform bill last evening.

This marks a major victory for the GOP, which has struggled to pass other major pieces of legislation, such as healthcare.

CBS News reports that the bill passed mostly along party lines 227-205. The bill would cut the corporate tax rate to 20 percent and implement other provisions aimed at helping businesses.

Before the vote, House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) talked about the need to grow the economy, and said this bill would help to kickstart job growth and help the middle class.

“This [economy] has been way under its potential. It’s been growing at a limp 1 to 2 percent,” stated Ryan. “Passing this bill is the single biggest thing we can do to grow the economy, to restore opportunity and help those middle income families who are struggling,” he continued.

Democrats, on the other hand, said the bill would only help the wealthy. “Republicans have brought forth a bill that is pillaging the middle class to pad the pockets of the wealthiest and hand tax breaks to corporations shipping jobs out of America,” stated House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA).

According to CNBC.com, the bill also passed the Finance Committee, and will now go on to the Senate for approval. President Trump also supports the legislation.

‘You and I Know a Different Jesus’

(Screenshot: VICE News)Hillsong NYC pastor Carl Lentz in an interview on “Vice News” published on November 8, 2017.

Pastor Carl Lentz of Hillsong NYC has responded to some Christians labeling him a “coward” for taking an alternative approach when speaking on controversial topics, such as abortion, by stating that they may be following a “different Jesus.”

“A lot of Christians that don’t know who we are say things like ‘You’re a coward’ and ‘Truth is truth’ and ‘You need to speak out.’ I just say, ‘I think me and you — first of all — might know a different Jesus.’ I think I did what I would always do, which is try to get to know a person,” the megachurch pastor told Relevant magazine.

“To me, I’m going in there with the intent of pointing to Jesus and hopefully speaking a language the world can understand.”

Lentz sparked controversy when he suggested that the issue of abortion is not an “open and shut case” during an appearance on ABC’s daytime talk show “The View” on Oct. 30.

“To me, I’m trying to teach people who Jesus is first, and find out their story. Before I start picking and choosing what I think is sin in your life, I’d like to know your name,” he said as part of his answer at the time.

“I think our job is still to help people — not necessarily change how they…
