An evangelical church in Tennessee that garnered national headlines a couple of years ago for coming out as pro-gay marriage is selling its property to a growing theologically conservative church.

GracePointe Church, a progressive congregation headed by the Rev. Stan Mitchell, reached a leasing agreement with Cross Point Franklin.

“Cross Point Franklin has signed a lease with GracePointe to move into the church at 5125 Franklin Pike, with the option to purchase the property in the future,” reported the Tennessean on Tuesday.

“GracePointe announced it was selling its Williamson County building in June. Founding pastor Rev. Stan Mitchell told The Tennessean at the time that the congregation felt it ‘may be better suited to those living in an urban environment.'”

According to the “Beliefs & Values” section of their website, Cross Point Franklin states that although “Cross Point’s ministry is innovative, what we believe about God is not.”

Tennessee Grandfather Banned from Reading Bible on Public Sidewalk

Tennessee Grandfather Banned from Reading Bible on Public Sidewalk

A man in Tennessee who was stopped from reading his Bible on a public sidewalk due to a city ordinance is arguing that the ordinance violates his religious freedom rights.

CBN News reports that Paul Johnson is being supported in his argument by First Liberty Institute and the Center for Religious Expression, who sent a letter to Sweetwater, Tennessee city officials on Johnson’s behalf.

Johnson himself expressed his thoughts on the situation: “I was shocked that a city had a law banning anyone from reading the Bible on a public sidewalk without the city’s permission. All I want to do is tell people about the love of Jesus by reading my Bible, but I was worried I might be arrested if I tried.”

The letter sent to city officials requests that the ordinance be repealed because it is “overbroad and unconstitutional,” as well as “outdated.”

“Because he can’t go into the mission field and go to all the world to preach the Gospel, he does that anywhere nearby that he can,” said Chelsey Youman, counsel for First Liberty, in an interview with CBN News.

The letter also notifies city officials that Johnson attempted to get a permit to preach and read the Bible in public, but that he was arbitrarily denied.

The letter concludes by demanding that Johnson be allowed “to peacefully share his religious beliefs at future events without imposing the unconstitutional permit…

100 Years After His Death, Oswald Chambers and ‘My Utmost for His Highest’ are Still Impacting Lives

Carol Kent is an international speaker and best-selling author. She and her husband, Gene, run the ministry Speak Up for Hope, which seeks to encourage prisoners and their families.

“Readiness for God means that we are prepared to do the smallest thing or the largest thing—it makes no difference.” (April 18)

It was a season of sadness. Following two and a half years and seven postponements of my son’s trial, he was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, without the possibility of parole.2 Wallowing in grief and self-pity, I began spending less time in the Bible and even less time in prayer. My son, a US Naval Academy graduate, had done the unthinkable: he shot and killed his wife’s first husband. There could be no do-overs. There could be no happy ending.

I had always been quick to do what felt like the “big things” for God—speaking, writing books, or challenging participants at a leadership conference. That felt like important work that deserved my time. But what would it look like for me, the mother of a prisoner with a life sentence, to do “the smallest thing”?

My attitude and my outlook began to change. I came to understand that “the smallest thing” in my view is often “the largest thing” in God’s eyes. Before I left for prison visitation, I prayed, “Lord, help me to have a divine encounter with one of the families of inmates today.” As I approached the prison driveway, I began praying with authority, “Father, may your presence be felt all over the prison…

Tenn. Baptist Convention, Congregation Part Ways Over Female Senior Pastor

(Photo: First Baptist Church in Jefferson City)First Baptist Church in Jefferson City, Tennessee

A congregation that once had ties with the Tennessee Baptist Convention is no longer part of the regional Southern Baptist body due to the church’s decision to have a female senior pastor.

The state convention voted on a resolution Tuesday morning to not seat the messengers for First Baptist Church of Jefferson City, acting upon a recommendation of their Committee on Credentials.

FBC Jefferson City provided The Christian Post with a statement on the matter, in which the 747-member church said they were “not surprised” by the resolution.

“Our congregation’s long-held conviction that God calls all people into service regardless of gender has not always been received well, even by some brothers and sisters in Christ,” stated FBC.

“We have been heartened, however, by a tremendous outpouring of support we have received from Christians, both Baptist and non-Baptist, from Tennessee and around the country in recent weeks.”

Atheists Stop Coach from Praying with Team, but Then Students do Something Amazing

Atheists Stop Coach from Praying with Team, but Then Students do Something Amazing

Atheist organization the Freedom From Religion Foundation thought they won a victory when they prevented a coach at a Georgia high school from conducting a time of prayer before football games, but their actions against the coach have backfired.

The FFRF initially sent a letter to the Coweta County School System, making them aware that the coach’s activities allegedly violated the U.S. Constitution because public school officials are not allowed to “further personal religious beliefs by leading their teams in prayer.

The school district complied with the FFRF’s demands, telling school officials that “representatives of the school cannot participate in any student initiated/student-led prayer or other worship while acting in their official capacity. For instance, they cannot join hands, bow their heads, take a knee or commit another act that otherwise manifests approval with the students’ religious exercise, at least where it would be perceived by a reasonable observer to display government endorsement of religion.”

Upon learning of this, Coweta County students doubled down on the prayer effort. Since the FFRF cannot do anything about the students themselves leading a time of prayer, the students came out in full force to support their religious freedom rights.

“Instead of it being 100 players praying, it turned into 400 students praying,”…

Open Heavens 16 November 2017: Thursday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Fulfilling Destiny

Open Heavens 16 November 2017: Thursday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Fulfilling Destiny

Topic: Fulfilling Destiny — Thursday 16, November 2017.

Memorise: The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. – Proverbs 10:27

Read: Ephesians 1:3-6 (KJV)

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Bible in One Year: Job 39-42, Amos 5:18-6:14, Hymn: Sing Hymn 7 – O Jesus, I Have Promised

MESSAGE:

If you are born again, you can connect with God’s destiny for your life. God has a plan for every human being He has made, but those who refuse to receive His Lordship will be unable to connect to His plan and purpose for their lives. In other words, sin is a separator that can disconnect the sinner from his or her God-given destiny. One truth you must recognize however is that the fulfillment of your destiny is in God’s hands and also in your hands. To this end, Proverbs 10:27 says,
“The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.”

Coming up next: Open Heavens 17 November 2017: Friday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Service and Friendship

Although you have a specific number of years allotted to you on earth, your ability to fear God, obey Him and make Him happy will not only help you to fulfill your years, these can also help you to increase the number of your years, just as it happened to King Hezekiah (2 Kings 20:5-6). In contrast, if you decide to live recklessly, the number of your years can be cut short (Psalm 34:16). The implication of this is that you can shorten or lengthen your years on earth depending on how you live your life.
Long before the foundation of this world was laid, God had chosen us in Christ (Ephesians 1:4). No wonder Jeremiah was told by the Lord that what he would become on earth had already been decided before he was born (Jeremiah 1:4-5). Do not however misconstrue God’s plan for you. According to Jeremiah 29:11, He has beautiful plans for you. These plans include your shinning as light and bringing healing to your world as salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13-16). Believe it or not, part of His plan is for you to continue from where He stopped on earth in relation to his miraculous works (John 14:12). Furthermore, some level of monetary suffering is allowed for you as part of His plans (1 Peter 2:21). In fact, if you will be glorified with Christ, you must be prepared to also suffer with him (2 Timothy 2:12). It is also part of God’s plan for you to be a joint-heir with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17). This means that you are not as you think you are. Everything God has belongs to Jesus Christ, and you are a co-heir to that inheritance (John 16:15). Apart from these, it is part of our destiny to forever live with Jesus in all eternity (John 14:3). Having known all these truths, it is important for you to daily thank God for His glorious plans for you and live your life in consonance with divine destiny in Christ.

Prayer Point: Father, let every good thing that is part of my destiny begin to manifest in my life from today!

Hymn 7: Oh Jesus I Have Promised
1. O Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me, my Master and my Friend;
I shall not fear the battle if Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway if Thou wilt be my Guide.
2. Oh, let me hear Thee speaking in accents clear and still,
I dare not trust my judgment: Thy way shall be my will;
Oh, speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;
Oh, speak, and help me listen, Thou Guardian of my soul.
3. O Jesus, Thou hast promised to all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory there shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised to serve Thee to the end—
Oh, give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend.
4. Oh, let me see Thy footprints, and in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly is in Thy strength alone;
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me, uphold me to the end;
And then in Heav’n receive me, my Savior and my Friend.
