Christian charity prays for ‘peace and stability’ in Zimbabwe as army takes over

While the army has denied a coup has taken place, South African President Jacob Zuma has claimed that President Robert Mugabe is under house arrest in the capital Harare and it’s believed his wife has fled the country.

World Vision’s National Director in the country, Emmanuel Isch told Premier that the charity is “praying for wise decisions to be made by leadership”.

Speaking during News Hour, Isch said: “People are very resilient but at the same time there are issues that need to be addressed in terms of the economy, social issues and so on.

“But we’re hopeful that there will be some solid changes and good decisions made to really allow the country to move forward.”

The foreign secretary has also voiced his concerns about the ongoing situation in the Southern African nation.

Boris Johnson told the House of Commons that the situation is “fluid” and said the UK is appealing to everyone in Zimbabwe to refrain from violence.

He said the Foreign Office and British Embassy are working to keep around 20 thousand British nationals safe.

On Tuesday evening, at least three explosions were heard in the capital and military vehicles were seen in the streets.

Troops on Wednesday were patrolling Harare, after they seized state TV and said they were targeting “criminals”.

BBC correspondents have reported that the move may be a bid to replace Mr Mugabe with his sacked deputy,…

Colorado Christian Baker Receives Support from Gay Community

Colorado Christian Baker Receives Support from Gay Community

Jack Phillips, the Christian bakery-owner from Colorado whose case will be heard before the U.S. Supreme Court next month, is not only receiving support from many Christians, but also from many in the gay community, according to The Christian Post.

As ChristianHeadlines.com has previously reported, Phillips case, Masterpiece Cakeshop vs. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, began when Phillips declined to make a wedding cake for a gay couple, citing his religious beliefs. Phillips initially lost his case with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, but won an appeal to bring his case before the Supreme Court.

Many Christians and conservatives have spoken out in support of Phillips’ religious freedom rights, but some members of the gay community also support Phillips.

“I’m TJ, and I’m Matt, we’re gay and we’re here to support Jack Phillips…to buy stuff from him, and support him because we don’t think any artist should be forced to create for something that violates their beliefs,” say two men in a video posted to Facebook by Alliance Defending Freedom, the conservative legal firm defending Phillips.

“Creating space for Jack to live out his convictions shows what a pluralistic society should look like. It would demonstrate what it means to have the freedom to disagree yet to be tolerant amidst those disagreements,” wrote Kristen K. Waggoner, general counsel and senior vice…

Christians Must Not Excuse ‘Disgusting Advances,’ Treating Women Like Sex Fantasies

(Photo: REUTERS/Lucy Nicholson)Women take part in a #MeToo protest march for survivors of sexual assault and their supporters in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California U.S. November 12, 2017.

Kevin DeYoung, senior pastor of Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, North Carolina, has warned that in the midst of the sexual abuse scandals shaking society today, Christians should never make excuses for “disgusting advances” on women.

DeYoung, who is also chairman of the board of The Gospel Coalition, clarified in a blog post on Tuesday that he is not looking to comment on specific accusations or people involved. Instead, he is speaking about the “bigger picture.”

“To be sure, we should not presume guilt just because accusations are made. Of the dozens of allegations made public this fall, some have been owned up to, while others are still resolutely denied,” he said, as many women have made accusations of sexual assault against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein and, more recently, Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore.

The pastor said that in the midst of all the controversy, Christians need to understand two important truths.

“First, men should honor women, not harass them; treat them as fellow image bearers, not sexual fantasies; and protect them, not perpetrate disgusting advances…

Hillsong leader Brian Houston says his beliefs will not change despite gay marriage legalisation

Houston, who said in August a “yes” vote would have wide-reaching ramifications, has encouraged Australians to “move forward in unity and love, viewing one another without labels”.

He said in the statement released on Wednesday: “I believe every person is created by God with a plan and purpose, and the focus of Hillsong Church has always been – and will always be – to point people to Jesus.

“As we move forward as a nation and put what has been at times a divisive debate behind us, my prayer is that we replace anger, criticism, hatred and intolerance with love, understanding, acceptance and kindness.”

However, Houston maintained that his personal belief on the biblical definition of marriage will not change and urged the government to protect churches who do not agree with gay marriage.

He added: “The work of our church will continue as usual as it does in many parts of the world where same-sex marriage is legal.

“It is vital however, that legislation protects the rights of churches, pastors and others to hold contrary beliefs based on the traditional teachings of scripture.

“Freedom of religion is a fundamental part of a democratic society and must be upheld. Any attempt to force Christians to compromise their faith would be wrong.”

He reminded Christians that “Jesus taught us that holding firm to our convictions, and respecting and appreciating other people who hold different views, are not mutually exclusive”.

Could it Happen here? How One Church is Preparing for a Mass Shooting

Could it Happen here? How One Church is Preparing for a Mass Shooting

Did they know how many rounds a gunman fired into First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas?

Did they know how many little boys and girls he killed?

Did they know there was a second violent church attack that same day in Fresno, Calif.?

Barry Young’s voice rose as he led an “intruder awareness and response training” for church personnel Saturday (Nov. 11) at Prairie Baptist Church in Scotts, Mich.

“What happened in Texas isn’t new. It’s just larger than normal,” said Young, the vice president of church security ministries at Grandview, Mo.-based Strategos International, a Christian company that teaches people at schools, churches and other institutions how to deal with a violent, armed intruder.

“We’ve got to get church leaders’ heads out of the sand.”

It was the weekend after the deadliest church shooting in American history, after Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton urged viewers on Fox News, “We need people in church — professional security or at least arming some of the parishioners or congregation — so they can respond when something like this happens again.”

As church leaders across the country considered how to respond — to comfort their congregations but also to make them feel safe — nearly 80 people from churches across Michigan, Indiana and Illinois gathered at Prairie Baptist for the training presented by…
