Satanist Who Got Abortion Sues State of Missouri over Pro-life Law

A Missouri satanist who had an abortion is suing the state to strike down a Missouri law making her wait.  In response, the Thomas More Society has filed an amici curiae (“friends of the court”) brief with the Missouri Supreme Court on behalf of the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Missouri Right to Life, supporting the Missouri law and the science behind it.

Missouri law mandates a 72-hour waiting period prior to having an abortion. The woman, an adherent of the so-called “Satanic Temple,” claims that the law violates her religious beliefs and violates her freedom of religion because she, as a satanist, does not believe that life begins at conception.

Attorney Thomas Olp, Thomas More Society Counsel, spoke to the primary issue in the submitted amicus brief. “The abortion waiting period and consent requirements dictated by Mo. Rev. Stat. § 188.027 are based on verifiable scientific facts,” he explained. “The question of when life begins is a scientific question, not a religious one. It is an observable scientific fact that the life of a new, genetically distinct organism of the human species begins at conception.”

The trial court dismissed the case, stating that the woman had failed to plead facts demonstrating her claim that the state is promoting religious dogma.

Olp noted that the woman’s claims are…

Speaking at Oberlin College in 2001, transgender activist Lynn Hyckman stated that, “The basic assumption of transgenderism is the transgressing of gender norms. Whether that means completely passing from one end to the other, or finding a space that combines or defies the binary in our society, it…

Church hit by arson

Officers are calling for anyone who saw what happened at Bath Central United Reformed Church in Argyle Street last week to get in touch.

Crew members from Devon and Somerset Fire Service were called to the scene at approximately 3am on Wednesday 8th November.

It appears that the belongings of a rough sleeper were set alight before the flames spread to the doors of the church, causing damage.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary

Photos reveal scorch marks left on two exterior walls of the building, and the extent to which the green-painted doors were left blackened by the fire.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “It’s possible that a passing taxi or delivery driver, or a person on their way to work, may have witnessed the offence.”

Anyone with information should call 101 and quote reference 5217255283.

Buyers Wait Patiently As Delivery Delays Continue

Facebook/teslaPromo photo of the upcoming Tesla Model 3.

Tesla Model 3 reservation holders continue to wait patiently as the automaker struggles with manufacturing bottlenecks. Tesla already pushed back production targets by at least a quarter and despite rumors that it will only get worse, buyers aren’t budging.

One such buyer is Brian Lawley was among the first to reserve a Model 3 after standing in a lengthy line in March 2016. He put down $2,000 for not one but two reservations but after nearly 20 months, his dream electric car is still not the driveway and worse, it seems the wait just got longer.

However, this doesn’t bother Lawley as much as most people would think. Speaking with Bloomberg, the 53-year-old CEO of a consulting firm revealed why he has yet to cancel his order.

“I just want Tesla to get the Model 3 right, even if it takes them an extra six months,” said Lawley. “I view any delays as a good thing to make sure that the quality is excellent.”

And he is not alone because, despite reports that Tesla is currently embroiled in production hell, none of the reservation holders had canceled their orders. This is also after Tesla announced this month it won’t hit a production rate of 5,000 Model 3 sedans per week until March.

Out of 20 customers who reserved a Tesla Model 3 surveyed by Bloomberg, only two were even considering canceling their reservations and so far have yet to do so. Only one was selling his reservation however, this is because he is moving out of the country.

It is possible buyers already accounted for the delay before putting in their reservations and after…

South African officer hospitalised after church attack

Trouble began on Sunday when traffic officers attempted to tow away a car belonging to a member of The Revelation Church of God in Johannesburg.

A video posted on social media sites shows angry church-goers approach an officer who retaliated by firing warning shots.

He is then thrown to the ground after appearing to have been hit.

The church has defended its congregants, insisting they were attacked.

In a Facebook post‚ the church released a different video with the caption “This is the freedom we fought for… for our own people to attack us”, where the officers can be seen arguing with several church members.

Many people took to the social media post also signalling their support for the church member’s actions.

One Facebook user said: “If they knew what The Revelation church of God is doing for this country, they should be ashamed of themselves.”

While another commented: “It’s a huge shame for what we VOTE for.

“The church change [sic] people’s lives, it has an impact on the Hillbrow community, crime has decreased, but they come and do this to us – naah its too much.”

However, many people on social media have also blamed the church for the incident, which happened during a service on Sunday.

Local councillor Michael Sun released a statement on Twitter and called the attack “cowardly” and urged “the church members where this took place to identify those involved… so these perpetrators can be arrested and charged”.

Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke has preached his final message at his “farewell” crusade in Nigeria over the weekend, urging parents to make sure their children follow in their footsteps and accept Jesus Christ.

“We don’t understand with our brains, but with our hearts. That’s where the image of God is,” Bonnke said before a massive crowd in Lagos in a video posted on Sunday, delivering his final message of the five-night long event.

“You must come to Jesus if you want to go to Heaven. He will change your nature, He will change all evil habits,” the evangelist continued.

“Peace will come to your family, and if your parents receive Jesus, your children will follow.”

German-born Bonnke, who is said to have led around 76 million people to Christ since 1974, left the Nigerian audience with a story from Lesotho in his closing message.

“There was a drunkard, a father, and it was Sunday. The father wanted to go to the beer-house, but his little boy was there. It was raining heavily outside, and so he said to his boy, ‘you stay here…

Bill Gates, Liz Smith, and Australian cockatoos

Bill Gates has announced that he is investing $100 million in the fight against Alzheimer’s. The world’s wealthiest person is joining the fight in part because men in his family have suffered from the disease. He notes in his latest blog: “I know how awful it is to watch people you love struggle as the disease robs them of their mental capacity, and there is nothing you can do about it.”

Gates’s legacy in the world of computers is assured. But one day, if the Lord tarries, every technology he invented and every line of code he wrote will become obsolete. However, if he helps defeat one of our most feared diseases, his significance will far outlast his success.

By contrast, the gossip columnist Liz Smith has died at the age of ninety-four. Famous for covering the private lives of A-list celebrities, she once said of her work: “We mustn’t take ourselves too seriously in this world of gossip. When you look at it realistically, what I do is pretty insignificant. Still, I’m having a lot of fun.”

A third news item caught my eye this morning: the yellow-crested cockatoo is wreaking havoc with Australia’s broadband network. The country spent $36 billion on this infrastructure project, but as a spokesman explains, the birds have “developed a liking for our cables . . . these birds are unstoppable when in a swarm.”

What we do today may not last or matter tomorrow. How do we leave a legacy of significance?

Live for eternity today

Life is both short and unpredictable.

Two people were killed and two others were wounded at a shooting in Atlanta over the weekend. Multiple people were stabbed inside the Mall of America in Minneapolis, leaving families and children stunned as they waited in line to see Santa Claus. An earthquake on the Iran-Iraq border killed more than four hundred and fifty people.

Scripture teaches us to “make the most of every opportunity” because “the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:16 NIRV). How? For help, I’d…
