Brexit ‘won’t harm UK Church’

Adrian Hilton, a proponent of the process, said missional projects and dialogue between churches and their European counterparts will continue undisturbed once the UK leaves the bloc.

Speaking 500 days before the official exit date, he said: “There is no change at all; we simply revert to the pre-1973 situation [prior to when the country joined the EU].

“There were churches all over Europe then, we were perfectly happy to work with them; mission is not remotely affected.”

Giving his verdict on the Brexit talks so far, Mr Hilton said he was “satisfied”, given the UK was never going to leave in “one fell swoop”.

Mr Hilton said he could not fathom the concern he detected among Church of England leaders, adding that all but one of the bishops he had spoken to have expressed fears about Brexit.

The Brexiteer also said the UK would be better off finishing exit negotiations without a trade deal, than spending up to “£80 billion” on a divorce deal.

PA

He also criticised the media for what he perceived as cynical coverage which implies EU leaders hold all of the cards in negotiations.

Mr Hilton went on to say: “They have a potential loss as well as and that is something that they, of course, want to avoid.

“When it comes down to the trade talks, things will be rather more amicable.”

Seven Ways Being Nice Hurts Your Church

Don’t judge me too quickly on the content of this article.

Unfortunately, I’ve seen it again and again. Church leaders and members sacrifice the health and good of the church for fear of hurting one or a few persons. The body is sacrificed for the sake of a few members.

We think we are being nice, but we are hurting the church.

See if you can identify with one or more of these seven “nice” issues.

  1. We don’t make a needed personnel decision. “It not the Christian thing to do,” we often rationalize. But most people know we need to make the change. We are just too nice to do so.
  2. We are unwilling to confront sin. “Who am I to judge that person?” we often ask. That’s the “nice” rationale. But if that church member is living in open and flagrant sin, we are failing our biblical duty.
  3. We won’t eliminate a weak program or ministry. The ministry or program has outlived its effectiveness, but we don’t want to offend the few persons who have sentimental attachment to it.
  4. We are unwilling to make tough decisions on facilities. The parlor is hardly used at all, and the church needs the space for growing ministries. But we are unwilling to tell the keepers of the parlor we need “their” space. It just wouldn’t be the nice thing to do.
  5. We compromise the Word of God. Yes, some church leaders do just that because they don’t want to seem narrow or exclusive. But the gospel is narrow and exclusive. We think telling someone they are “okay” without Christ is just being nice. But…

Let kids cross-dress, says Church of England

Nursery and primary school children ought to be free to try “the many cloaks of identity” without being labelled or bullied, its 4,700 schools have been advised.

New guidance for head teachers says: “Pupils need to be able to play with the many cloaks of identity (sometimes quite literally with the dressing up box).

“Children should be at liberty to explore the possibilities of who they might be without judgement or derision.”

The statement featured in an anti-bullying document, newly-revised to include transphobia and biphobia – in addition to homophobic bullying.

In a foreword to the advice, the Archbishop of Canterbury warned bullying causes “profound damage” and is linked to mental health issues.

Most Rev Justin Welby added: “This guidance helps schools to offer the Christian message of love, joy and the celebration of dour humanity without exception or exclusion.”

Stonewall, an organisation which campaigns for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality in Britain, welcomed the new guidance.

A spokesperson said: “Our research shows that nearly half of lesbian, gay, bi and trans pupils are bullied for being LGBT at school: a situation that desperately needs to change.

“We would like to congratulate the Church for sending a clear signal that homophobic, biphobic and transphobic bullying must never be tolerated.”

The Church of England guidance also says: “Children should be afforded freedom from the expectation of permanence.

“They are in a ‘trying on’…

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 13 November 2017 Devotional: Draw Close to Him

Joyce Meyer's Daily 13 November 2017 Devotional: Draw Close to Him

Topic: Draw Close to Him [Monday November 13, 2017]

Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. — James 5:16

Do you want to be closer to God? He wants to be closer to us. The scripture above says His Spirit dwells in us and yearns to be welcome with a jealous love. So how much closer can you be?

We can always draw closer in our relationship with God. In fact, we are the ones who determine just how close our relationship with Him will be. Even though He lives in us, the Holy Spirit won’t force a relationship with us. He wants us to make Him welcome in our lives.

God created us for fellowship, and He greatly desires relationship with us. He longs to talk to us, to listen to us, to teach us and guide us—simply to be a part of our lives. And we are the better for it! We are renewed when we fellowship with God. The benefits of spending time with the Father are endless.

My friend, I encourage you to be relentless in making time for fellowship with the Father. He is waiting. He is saying, “Come to Me…” So go ahead…and see what’s in store!

Prayer Starter: God, it amazes me how You desire fellowship with me. I want to be closer to You too. Thank You for loving me and drawing near to me as I draw near to You.

Memorise: “Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? “John 11:40

Read: John 11:39-44

39 Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

40 Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

44 And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

Bible In One Year: Acts 4-5. Hymn: Sing Hymn 3: Deeper, Deeper in the Love

MESSAGE:

Believing what God says about the way condition we are going through is very vital to our walk as Christians. When we believe the Word of God, we are expressing our confidence and trust in His abilities. There is nothing beyond Him. This is why you cannot afford to continue in sin. If you want to activate the glory of God in your life, you have to know Him, and live a life worthy of His calling.

You must learn to always look beyond bad situations and lift your eyes to God Almighty. Overlook all the reports, conditions, difficulties and obstacles; lift your eyes to the Lord in prayer, in praise, in worship and in fasting, and you will be surprised at what the Lord will do. There is no solution elsewhere; the real glory is in Christ Jesus.

Prayer Point: Father, let Your glory be made manifest in my life.

Sing Hymn 3: Deeper, Deeper in the Love

1. Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.

Refrain:
Oh, deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

2. Deeper, deeper, blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will.

3. Deeper, deeper! though it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.

4. Deeper, higher, every day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last.

5. Deeper, deeper in the faith of Jesus,
Holy faith and true;
In His pow’r and soul exulting wisdom
Let me peace pursue

Bishop David Oyedepo: Engaging the Power of the Holy Spirit for Sanctification!

Bishop David Oyedepo: Engaging the Power of the Holy Spirit for Sanctification!

Topic: Engaging the power of the Holy Spirit for Sanctification!

Welcome to the month of November, your season of encounter with the Holy Spirit! I have no doubt that through the ministration of the Holy Spirit, you shall experience Supernatural Breakthroughs!

We understand from scriptures that every child of God is ordained to live a sanctified (Holy) life. This is because every believer by redemption has the potential to be as holy and perfect as our heavenly Father. Remember, God cannot tell us to be what he has not empowered us to be. This is why the scripture admonishes us to: Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect (Matthew 5:48).

While sanctification does not connote a state of ‘sinlessness’, it is man’s quest to please God at all costs as a lifestyle. By this, we mean an insatiable hunger and thirst for righteousness; for blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness; they shall be filled (Matthew 5:6). This makes sanctification a possible adventure which many have imbibed and are walking on the highway of holiness. For instance, we saw how Paul, the great, lived a sanctified life, and as such, he had a glorious ministry.

In essence, our desire to please God spiritually at all times, determines our level of glorification; as no one’s life will ever be more glorified than his or her commitment to be sanctified.

However, sanctification is not possible without engaging the ministry of the Holy Spirit. That means, when you try to live a sanctified life in the energy of the flesh, frustration sets in. This is because the Holy Ghost is the Spirit of holiness as described in Romans 1:4: … declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead. Thus, until we engage the Spirit in our quest for sanctification, our effort will be in vain. We saw how Jesus the son of God needed to depend on the Holy Spirit to live a sanctified life. In order words, that was the Spirit at work in Christ that empowered him for dominion over sin.

Furthermore, the Scripture describes the Holy Ghost as the refiners’ fire that purifies the sons of Levites so they can offer unto God offerings in righteousness. It is written: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness ( Malachi 3:5).

It is common knowledge that gold is precious but until it passes through the furnace, it holds no value. Likewise, every one of us carries an enviable destiny, which must be processed through the refinery of the Holy Ghost for our real values to manifest.

In addition, according to scriptures, there is the mystery of iniquity; nevertheless,  there is also the great mystery of godliness which can swallow the mystery of iniquity just like in the case of Aaron’s rod swallowing up the rods of the magicians (2 Thessalonians 2:7; 1 Timothy 3:16). However, it is important to recognise that the mystery of godliness lies in the ministry of the Holy Ghost.  There is no personal effort that can set a man free from sin; except through the Spirit (Romans 8:13).

A wise man once said, ‘When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.’  It also means, if we don’t know why we need something, we may never be committed to it. This is why we need a better understanding of why we need sanctification to avoid being victims of sin and its evil vices.

WHY DO WE NEED SANCTIFICATION?

It is a Requirement for Answered Prayers: The Scriptures lays credence to the fact that without sanctification, our prayers will remain unanswered. It is written: If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me… (Psalm 66:18).

For New Levels of Anointing: Our enviable destinies require new levels of Anointing; but we cannot achieve this if we keep living in sin (Psalm 45:7; Luke 5:39; Proverbs 1:23).

Security of Destiny: Many great destinies in scriptures crashed for lack of sanctification. Among others is Achan, who saw a wedge of gold, coveted it, dug the ground and kept it there. That did not only end his destiny, but his entire family, were stoned to death (Joshua 5:19:25). We saw another great destiny by name Gehazi who was the heir apparent of the prophetic office of Elijah but his destiny crashed because of the love of money. Also, Judas, one of the twelve disciples was not left out as he sold his master for 30 pieces of silver, after which he hanged himself (Mathew 26:14-26; 27:3-5). It is regrettable that many will do anything to get money; and this has landed them in miserable and irrecoverable conditions.

As regards the lust of the flesh, Samson and Solomon, who had great destinies, crashed as a result of lust (Judges 16:1-2; 1 Kings 11:1-3). In addition, pride is a sin before God and as such, we cannot fulfill destiny with it. We saw the great destiny of Ahithophel, crashed to pride because his counsel was rejected; as a result, he hanged himself.  Likewise Herod and Nebuchadnezzar destinies crashed as a result of pride. No truly sanctified man walks in pride because the anointing of the Holy Ghost naturally destroys it. However, today, by the encounter of the Holy Ghost, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life will be destroyed and that will open up your destiny to a colourful fulfilment.

Nevertheless, are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and personal Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”  For further reading, please get my books: Anointing for Breakthrough, Understanding the Anointing, Anointing for Exploits, Release of Power.

DCLM Daily Manna 13 November, 2017 by Pastor Kumuyi – Hope In God

Topic: Hope In God — Monday November 13, 2017.

Text: Ezekiel 17:11-24

Key Verse: “In the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it: and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all fowl of every wing; in the shadow of the branches thereof shall they dwell” (Ezekiel 17:23).

Bible scholars have identified two remarkable things in the ministry of Prophet Ezekiel. God allowed him to inject heavy symbolism into his messages to the children of Judah in order to drive home precious lessons. Besides, his message would begin with conditions that suggested despair but end with lively hope. We see all these dramatised in the vision of the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37. Skeletons that opened the chapter are progressively transformed by God’s power into a great lively army.

Ezekiel uses figurative language to call confederate kings against Nebuchadnezzar eagles to reflect their royal and powerful status, since the eagle is the king of all flying creatures. But the God of all creation is not moved by the military prowess of man, their “mighty army or great company.” God says these kings have “despised the oath by breaking the covenant” and judgment must come upon them. God’s standard of complete obedience to His lordship is not discriminatory. He demands it from the high and the low. He is no respecter of persons. God can subdue men and women of substance who violate His ordinances. Having announced the plan to deal with the rebellion, God now makes a solemn vow of hope for Israel and mankind in the distant future in verse 24.

He presents what Bible scholars have described as a beautiful messianic promise. God says He will visit Israel again and take away her dryness and barrenness (verse 23). The emerging “goodly cedar tree” would be a shelter to all those who run to it. Jesus Christ fulfilled that prophecy when He came into the world 594 years after Ezekiel’s ministry. Lost mankind must run to Him to be sheltered from all evils.

Thought for the day: Hope in Christ gives birth to joy.

Our Daily Manna November 13, 2017: ODM devotional – Refuse To Be Someone Else!

Topic: Refuse To Be Someone Else! [Monday, November 13, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: Psalm 139:1-18

Welcome to another time of devotional bliss with the God who is called the Cornerstone, the Rock of Offence, the Rock of Ages and the Governor among the nations! It is Virginia Satir who correctly wrote:

“I am me. In the entire world, there is   o one else exactly like me. There are persons who have parts like me, but no one adds up exactly like me. Therefore, everything that comes out of me is authentically mine, because I alone chose it.”The above thought agrees with the Psalmist when he declared in Psalm 139:14: “I will praise Thee, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” The Amplified Bible says, “I will confess and praise You for the awful wonder of my birth.” You can rejoice about the fact that you are unique and there none like you. You are the most handsome and beautiful specie of creation around, no matter your colour, the shape of your nose, les or body build. You are the best to come out of God’s store room of divine omniscience.

God cannot make a mistake and you are not a mistake! Heaven took time for your creation and existence! That means, all you will ever go through on this planet is known to the highest wisdom in the universe – Jehovah God before you were born, and your end product is a wonder and amazement! Look around and shout for joy! Stop pitying yourself! Stop insulting the God of your creation! Self – comparism is demonic. Accept your mistakes and miracles. Accept your failures and fortunes and then make your life.

Avoid following the crowd! Stand out in the world! Just as a fish cannot survive on dry land, you cannot excel in this planet until you discover who you are. Refuse to be someone else! You can only excel an original! Refuse to be a photocopy. Don’t envy anyone! Don’t compromise yourself; it is all you’ve got!

Prayer Points: Take any song of worship as led.

1. Thank God for the Word and thank Him for making you special. Thank God for where you are in life today.

2. Thank God for yourself! I effuse to compare my life or ministry to any other, so help me Lord (Pray it well).

3. I uproot discouragement as 2017 ends. I receive GRACE to begin 2018 with courage and to pray and fast in the 2018 upcoming January 21-day fasting programme again.

4. Pray in the morning, afternoon and evening of today’s devotional prayer points. (In the storms of life, ODM is LIFE’S PARACHUTE. Give a soul/family reasons to keep in touch with ODM this week).
