Texas massacre church will be demolished, pastor says

Frank Pomeroy told leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention earlier this week that it would be too painful to continue using First Baptist Church as a place of worship.

A national Southern Baptist spokesman said Mr Pomeroy discussed the plan with the denomination’s top executives, who travelled to the rural community in a show of support.

Sing Oldham said the pastor described the building as “too stark of a reminder” of the massacre. Mr Pomeroy expressed hope he could turn the site into a memorial for the dead and put up a new building on property the church owns.

On Wednesday, Vice President Mike Pence joined Texas Governor Greg Abbott at a memorial service for the victims of the gunman.

Mr Pence told the crowd that the attack was the worst mass shooting at a church in American history and called the gunman “deranged”.

“Whatever animated the evil that descended on that small church, if the attacker’s desire was to silence their testimony of faith, they failed,” the vice president added.

The governor said Texans come together at times of crisis and tragedy. “It’s what we do,” Mr Abbott said. People in the crowd responded “amen”.

He also proclaimed Sunday November 12 a state-wide day of prayer.

Mr Pence also visited wounded congregants at a San Antonio hospital and met with families of the dead in Floresville, not…

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 10 November 2017 Devotional: Face the Truth About Yourself

Joyce Meyer's Daily 10 November 2017 Devotional: Face the Truth About Yourself

Topic: Face the Truth About Yourself [Friday November 10, 2017]

And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do. — Hebrews 4:13

Someone once asked how I live free from my oppressive past. My answer is very simple: God has given me the grace and the willingness to face the truth about myself.

I grew up in an angry, unstable atmosphere. Because of my quick temper, I was upset most of the time. Because of being upset, I grew up depressed, disappointed and discouraged. I wished I could have a better life, but my wishing didn’t solve anything. It wasted my time as I kept blaming my problems on my bad family background.

Finally, God helped me realize that while I wasn’t responsible for what had happened to me and I couldn’t change my past, I had to stop wishing and start taking responsibility for the way I lived moving forward. I had to stop blaming other people and my circumstances, and stop making excuses for myself. As I did this, and put my trust in God to heal and restore my life, I changed. Now I have peace and enjoy my life.

You might be in a similar situation. Facing the truth about yourself is scary, but you don’t have to do it alone. All your flaws are exposed to God, and if you ask Him for His perspective, He will help you pick yourself up, take responsibility, and live a peaceful life. Today, don’t be scared to face the truth about yourself, but let God guide you into a new tomorrow.

Prayer Starter: Holy Spirit, I need Your help to face the truth about myself. It’s time to stop blaming my problems on my past and on other people, and meet them head-on with the power of Your Word. Help me to take responsibility and change for the better.

Pair held over abduction of British missionaries

The pair was arrested in the southern city of Warri, an oil hub, on Wednesday, Delta state police spokesman Andrew Aniamaka said on Thursday.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) confirmed on Monday that Alanna Carson, David Donovan and Shirley Donovan had returned safely to the UK after their ordeal but a fourth Briton had died while being held in captivity.

Local media cited an unconfirmed report that 57-year-old Ian Squire from Shepperton in Surrey died after suffering from an asthma attack.

In a statement released by the FCO, his family said: “We are all deeply saddened by the loss of Ian, a loving father, husband, and devout Christian, who dedicated much of his life in the service of others.

“It’s clear that Ian had touched many hearts with his kindness and grace.”

The four missionaries were working for a Cambridge-based Christian charity providing free medical services to communities in rural areas around the Niger Delta creeks.

Kidnappings for ransom occur frequently in Nigeria; militants in the Niger Delta region and members of the Islamist group Boko Haram in north-eastern Nigeria have conducted several high-profile abductions.

David Abioye’s Daily 10 November 2017 Devotional – How To Be A Father

David Abioye's Daily 10 November 2017 Devotional - How To Be A Father

Topic: How To Be A Father [Friday November 10, 2017]

Givers always earn to themselves fatherhood.

Givers are fathers because they have large hearts to accommodate others.

If you are not a giver, you’ll never become a father.

Abraham was indeed a father by accepting responsibility for the well being of all that came His way.

Giving earns you a senior position amongst your peers.

The giving hand is the upper hand just as the receiving hand is the lower hand.

Giving puts you over and above while those who don’t give will remain permanently below.

Givers earn respect non-givers loose respect.

Respect for givers is natural in response to their giving.

Our Daily Manna November 10, 2017: ODM devotional – Values Of Difficulties

Our Daily Manna November 10, 2017: ODM devotional – Values Of Difficulties

Topic: Values Of Difficulties [Friday, November 10, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: Hebrews 12: 5-13; Jeremiah 31:16-18

Welcome to the fresh dew of hermon! Someone said: “What makes a man of God is what he face in life. A man of God that has not faced anything is just a man. When he faces some real things, he becomes a man of God. It is the level of trials you face that qualifies you as a man of God”.

The same can also apply to every believer and child of God because really, (children of God/believers) are called into one form of ministry or the other! See PSALM 24:19: “Many are affliction of the righteous, but God delivereth him/her out of them all.” This verse confused me for many years after I got Born Again On February 3rd 1976. How can I run from devil to Jesus and then face MANY AFFLICTIONS after that? That one scripture has also sent thousands from the old rugged cross and the narrow way because they lacked spiritual insight!

Did the Bible not say: “THEY SHALL SURELY GATHER (Isaiah 54:15)? Surely! Not MAYBE! So the Holy Ghost is only reminding you through today’s devotional that: One of the marks of righteousness is trials. This is because satan declares WAR on you once you are a terror to his kingdom! He However he knows no weapon fashioned against you will prosper because for every trial, there is GREATER GRACE from your Father God! Your grace to survive is what makes you a winner! Also be reminded that man in his crude state, cannot be perfected without trials!

Ephraim said in Jeremiah 31:18: “Thou has chastised me and I was chastised. I shall be turned for thou art the Lord God.” Chastisement or trials are for your turning! You may not like them, but there is something in difficulties that bring out the best in you and draws you closer to the divine. Emerson said, “Bad times have scientific value. There are occasions a good learner would not miss.” Never forget that tough times never last but tough people do!

I ask again, are you just a man or a man of God? Are you just a child or you are a child of God? You can face trials, trust God patiently and win. Impossibilities vanish when a man and God confront a mountain! There is hope in thy end! You will never end this year or indeed your life/ministry in shame in Jesus name! Amen and Amen!

Prayer Points: Take song of worship as led.

1. Father, grant me grace in every of life’s battle in Jesus name. I reject unnecessary wars!

2. Lord, grant me divine promotion through every trial You allow in my life/ministry I Jesus name.

3. O God, arise and let my head be lifted up above the gates of hell again I Jesus name (Pray it very well).

4. Pray about today now!
