Blackadder star gives nativity story a modern twist

The Three Ships was put together by the Time Team star and renowned composer Professor Paul Mealor.

Narrated by special guests, it aims to address current issues while allowing the audience to enjoy their favourite Christmas carols.

It comes after Sir Tony’s involvement in last year’s Celebration of Carols in London, where Prof Mealor performed with the University of Aberdeen Chamber Choir.

Sir Tony said: “It all came out of just one conversation. I was blown away by Paul’s interpretation of In The Bleak Midwinter at last year’s concert, and afterwards we were chatting about how there are few pieces that challenge us to engage in the drama of the nativity.

“I thought if we could create something that fills that gap – that addresses modern day issues but gives us the opportunity to sing the carols we all love, and be dazzled by the performance of great musicians – then that would be something really special.”

The annual event raises funding for research at the new NHS Anchor Centre, which will be a centre of excellence for treating people with cancer and blood disorders.

This reworked nativity’s debut performance will be held at St Machar’s Cathedral in Aberdeen, but it is hoped the concert will be performed by other groups in years to come.

Prof Mealor said: “I am confident that we’ve got this right and I think people are going to go away feeling good about it. There’s some new music in there, but a lot of old…

All You Need to Know About This Popular American Holiday

REUTERS/Saul Martinez

A Charlie Brown giant balloon makes its way down 6th Avenue during the 90th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan, New York.

While some countries around the world have their respective versions of Thanksgiving Day, American Thanksgiving is always celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November, which falls on Nov. 23 this year.

Contrary to what some people thought, the USA is not the only country in the world that celebrates Thanksgiving Day. While Puerto Rico also celebrates Thanksgiving on the same day America does, Canada observes it on the second Monday of October, Grenada on October 25, and Liberia on every first Thursday of November.

Historians claim that Thanksgiving began in 1621 after the Pilgrims yielded a bountiful harvest, thanks to the help of Native Americans who also introduced them to other crops and skills, including fishing and hunting. Because of the bountiful harvest, the Pilgrims were able to avert the same experience they had when they first landed on Plymouth, Massachusetts the year prior, when they had to get by with rationed food due to the harsh winter.

Thanksgiving Day officially became an official American celebration in 1863 when then American president Abraham Lincoln proclaimed it as a national holiday. However, it was not until the 1900s when the day emerged as one of the most popular holidays that many Americans look forward to even up to this day.

American Thanksgiving Day is not the celebration that it is known for without the traditional roasted Turkey and pumpkin pie on the dinner table. While the Thanksgiving Day menu continues…

US Vice President says air force partly to blame over Texas church massacre

Mr Pence spoke at a news conference on Wednesday afternoon outside the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, where the shootings happened.

He said the gunman lied on his background check application when buying the weapons. He also cited the man’s history of mental illness and bureaucratic failings within the Air Force for the tragedy.

Mr Pence began his trip to Texas by visiting Brooke Army Medical Centre at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio to meet with victims wounded in the shooting.

Then he, his wife and Texas officials met with victims’ families, first-responders and two men who pursued the gunman.

Mr Pence said President Donald Trump had authorised a full complement of federal resources to the investigation, including 100 on-site FBI agents.

Donald Trump Not Invited to Summit in December

U.S. President Donald Trump is, at the moment, uninvited to the climate change summit scheduled to take place in the French capital this December for pulling his country out of the 2015 deal.

(Photo: REUTERS/Joshua Roberts)

U.S. President Donald Trump walks from Marine One upon his return to the White House in Washington, U.S., March 19, 2017.

A representative from the office of France’s President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that it is “for the time being.”

More than a hundred countries have been invited to the summit on Dec. 12, including non-government organizations, all of which have committed to implementing the 2015 Paris climate change deal. Syria announced its intention to be part of the 2015 agreement on Tuesday.

“I would like to affirm the Syrian Arab Republic’s commitment to the Paris climate change accord,” deputy Environment Minister Wadah Katmawi expressed at the climate talks in Bonn, Germany.

Nicaragua, which was one of the two nations to disagree on the 2015 deal, signed up last month. This means that the U.S. which is the world’s second-largest greenhouse gas emitter is now the sole country opposed to the deal.

Through the years, the business tycoon-turned-president has firmly voiced his skepticism on the matter. Much like the abominable snowman or unicorns, he believes that climate change is a myth, only that it is designed to derail the U.S. economy. At some point in the past prior to being elected into office, he said that the concept of global warming was created by the Chinese to destroy the competitiveness of U.S. manufacturing. He also openly criticized former…

Eight Reasons Some Pastors Aren’t Ready to Lead Church Revitalization

SUBSCRIBE TODAY: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play

Ever wonder if you’re ready to lead a church to revitalization? Today we cover eight reasons you may NOT be ready.

Today’s Listener Question:

FROM MARGARET

Our church is struggling to find a new pastor. I think it has to do with our current situation. The church has declined over the past few decade and has seen several pastors come and go. We just need a pastor who will stick it out here but can’t find one. Why is it so hard to find and keep pastors in a church that needs revitalizing?

Episode Highlights:

  • Hiring a young pastor is not a magic bullet for church revitalization.
  • A typical church revitalization takes more than five years.
  • A pastor leading revitalization has to be a pastor with a long-term perspective.
  • If you don’t ask for help, you often don’t get it.
  • Pastors need to know how thick their skin is before entering into church revitalization.
  • Taking risks means there will be significant change
  • We need more wise, risk-taking pastors.

The eight reasons some pastors aren’t ready for revitalization are:

  1. It usually takes a long time
  2. It requires facing reality
  3. The pastor could lose his job
  4. It often requires asking for help
  5. It requires a thick skin
  6. It means you may hurt some people you love
  7. It requires perseverance and tenacity
  8. It means taking risks

Teens’ Open Heavens 9 November 2017 by Pastor Adeboye – Why You Need Jesus I

Teens’ Open Heavens 9 November 2017 by Pastor Adeboye - Why You Need Jesus I

Topic: Why You Need Jesus I [Thursday 9, November 2017]

Memorise: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” – Matthew 1:21

Read: John 8:1-12

1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Bible In One Year: John 16-17. Hymn: Sing Hymn 3: Deeper, Deeper in the Love

MESSAGE:

There are many people who claim to be Christians today, but are living in sin. A genuine Christian will keep sin at a distance, live a life of good works through Jesus Christ and be a vessel that is clean within and without.

Jesus showed the Pharisees how hypocritical they were with respect to the woman caught in adultery. They accused Jesus of breaking the law. They wanted to trap Jesus through her sin, only to be caught in their own trap. They vanished one after the other by the time Jesus showed them that they themselves were sinners. This is why you must come to Jesus, no matter how terrible you feel you might have fallen. You cannot fall below His grace.

There is a sure reward for those who forsake the path of sin and choose the path of righteousness. Righteousness will exalt you, but sin will always bring reproach.

Key Point: Who you follow determines what follows you.

Sing Hymn 3: Deeper, Deeper in the Love

1. Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
Daily let me go;
Higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
More of grace to know.

Refrain:
Oh, deeper yet, I pray,
And higher every day,
And wiser, blessed Lord,
In Thy precious, holy Word.

2. Deeper, deeper, blessed Holy Spirit,
Take me deeper still,
Till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
And His perfect will.

3. Deeper, deeper! though it cost hard trials,
Deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
Let me fruitful grow.

4. Deeper, higher, every day in Jesus,
Till all conflict past,
Finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last.

5. Deeper, deeper in the faith of Jesus,
Holy faith and true;
In His pow’r and soul exulting wisdom
Let me peace pursue

What Led To Joash’s Destruction? Pt One

A Promise For You From Bible Promises:

Topic: What Led To Joash’s Destruction? Pt One [09/11/2017]

Whoso rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house. Proverbs 17:13. 2 Chr 24:17-27

Yesterday, we ended the Devotional with the above question and promised to deal with it today. Glory be to God Almighty for His grace to see today successfully. Amen. Now let’s deal with the process that led to his destruction after God had helped him tremendously.

1) Ungodly company. After the death of his mentor or spiritual father – Jehoiada, some evil princes that could not visit him when his mentor was alive visited him and corrupted him. And the Bible says, evil company corrupt good manner. 1 Cor 14:33. Keep away from friends that cannot give you good counsel.

2) He forsook God. Prior to what many some preachers say today that “once you are saved you are forever saved”, here we see that, when Joash forsook God, God in turn forsook him. David told Solomon his son, “if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him he will cast thee off forever”. 1 Chr 28:9b. Remember God did not just forsake Joash, He first sent him a warning, and when he refused to heed God’s warning, destruction came upon him. Before God – the all merciful permits destruction, He first sends warning signals to the fellow involved or nation. God is sending a warning to all sinners to repent of their sins to avoid the impending doom ahead. See Ezekiel 3:17-20, Pro 1:24-32. Tomorrow, we’ll look at the remaining three points by God’s grace.

#BiblePromisesPrayer

* Oh Lord my God, take away anything that would cause my destruction in Jesus Mighty Name.
