Local Christians, and Some Muslims, Surround a Grieving Town with Love

Local Christians, and Some Muslims, Surround a Grieving Town with Love

After a day’s work, Jennifer Garcia drove over from San Antonio and propped a homemade poster drawn by her and her 6-year-old son at an intersection near the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs.

“Love conquers hate,” it said in a flag-themed red, white and blue drawing with stars and hearts, joining the heaps of flowers and teddy bears constituting a makeshift shrine near the church where a mass shooter killed 26 people at Sunday services.

Wiping away tears, Garcia said she felt compelled to drive 30 miles with her husband and two sons and join the hundreds who came to stand beside the people of Sutherland Springs. Later, church groups hosted an impromptu churchlike outdoor vigil.

“I was crying all day yesterday and I thought, ‘We have to come down,’” she said.

On top of hordes of journalists, the well-wishers nearly choked the town with cars and dust. That didn’t appear to faze the townspeople, though some grumbling was heard about the onslaught of media teams in this tiny unincorporated community.

Sunday’s shooting rampage — the worst in Texas history — claimed about 4 percent of the town’s approximately 600 residents.

It also galvanized faith-based charities, from the Salvation Army to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, to shower the town with prayers.

At a news conference beside the town’s only blinking red light,…

Christian politician tells the media to stop hounding MPs

Patel is facing almost certain dismissal after being ordered back to Britain following the disclosure of further unauthorised meetings with Israeli politicians.

She was forced to cut short an official visit to Africa after being summoned by Theresa May to Downing Street to explain herself.

Ms Patel has already apologised to the Prime Minister on Monday after failing to disclose a series of 12 meetings with senior Israeli figures during a family holiday in the country in August.

It has since emerged that she then held two additional meetings, one in the UK and one in the US, following her return from Israel.

Sir Gerald, who’s a friend of Ms Patel, told Premier she made an “honest mistake”.

He said: “It will be a shame if this media frenzy were to force the Prime Minister’s hand.

“I think it’s an innocent mistake. No damage has been done, nobody has been hurt, no public money has gone astray.”

Sir Gerald added that the media has spun the situation out of control and it’s depriving the country of talented people.

He said: “Some journalists are completely unaccountable. They’re unaccountable to the people they work for and certainly unaccountable to the public.

“They’ll move on to the next story, and no doubt they’ll find somebody else and seek to secure their scalp.”

Sir Gerald told Premier he was in a similar situation as Ms Patel when he was in office and said…

President Trump is Filling Federal Courts with Scalia-like Conservative Judges

President Trump is Filling Federal Courts with Scalia-like Conservative Judges

President Donald Trump could fill the federal bench seats with strict constitutionalists, Paul Strand said in a column in the CBN News.

“President Obama picked left-leaning jurists and George W. Bush safe, non-controversial nominees,” Strand said. “But Trump has been nominating judges in the mold of the late Antonin Scalia, who gave first priority to the U.S. Constitution and to the law as it’s written, rather than coming up with his own interpretations.”

There are more than 100 judge vacancies and once chosen, their influence could “last 40,50 years and will have an enormous impact on the future of our country,” said Leonard Leo, of the Federalist Society and adviser for the president.

“This president has an opportunity to potentially fill as many as 40 percent of the seats on the federal bench,” Leo said. “And that will just be transformative.”

Most of Trump’s own picks will sit on lower courts, where about 99 percent of federal cases are dealt with.

“There was a decided leftward tilt by some of these courts during the Obama administration,” said John Malcolm, of the Heritage Foundation. “So I think from a conservative standpoint, getting that shift by the judiciary turned back in the right direction is incredibly important to the direction of the law.”

Meanwhile, Democrats are fighting back against filling the federal courts…

Read the Bible Every Day, Follow Jesus

(Screenshot: BillyGraham.org)North Carolina evangelist Billy Graham in a video on his 99th birthday on November 7, 2017.

On his 99th birthday, world famous evangelist Billy Graham urged people to seek a close relationship with God and read the Bible every day.

Graham said in a video on Tuesday that he has been praying for a “spiritual awakening” but said that that can only happen if individuals “surrender their lives to Jesus Christ.”

He continued by saying that foremost, people need to do “everything we can to follow in the footsteps of Jesus,” which he defined as living a life where people “love one another, help one another,” and live according to Christ’s teachings.

It is the Holy Spirit that helps people live such a “deep lifestyle” that is focused on “love, gentleness, and patience,” he noted.

Graham urged people to read the Bible every day, advising them to start with the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament. As for the Old Testament, he said that they can start with the first verse in Genesis.

“Go to your knees and pray until you and God have become intimate friends,” he suggested, adding that the “joy and peace” that results from such a relationship is indescribable.

Several pastors, journalists, and people who have known the North Carolina evangelist shared their…

Christian charity remembers victims of Typhoon Haiyan

Haiyan was one of the worst cyclones ever recorded and left more than 7,000 people dead.

Millions more lost relatives, homes or their livelihoods.

Stuart Rivers, CEO of Sailors’ Society, which has helped rebuild communities in the Philippines, said: “This year, the world has seen the horrific damage caused by hurricanes Irma and Maria.

“Unfortunately, from our experience with Haiyan, we know storms like these can have a terrible effect for years to come.

“Four years after Haiyan destroyed vast areas of the Philippines, millions of people still suffer from the loss of loved ones, homes and jobs.”

Sandra Welsh from the charity told Premier how communities they work with are still in need.

She said: “One of the critical needs is still rebuilding people’s lives and helping them to return to what was normal for them.

“Once people have suffered traumas like this, life is never the same for them, so we’re helping them to rebuild buildings, to rebuild their lives.”

Sailors’ Society responded to the disaster by raising £225,000 through an emergency appeal and has been helping communities in the Philippines rebuild ever since.

Rivers added: “Around a quarter of the world’s seafarers come from the Philippines and the country is key to world trade. It was important that when disaster struck, Sailors’ Society was able to support communities to rebuild their lives.”

Sailors’…

Billy Graham at 99: He Kept the Faith and (Mostly) Dropped the Politics

Billy Graham at 99: He Kept the Faith and (Mostly) Dropped the Politics

Conservative Christian leaders have President Trump’s ear, but they are certainly not the first evangelicals to counsel the leader of the free world. The most famous evangelist of the 20th century, Billy Graham, advised many an American president, though differently than Trump’s faith advisors approach the job.

As Graham celebrates his 99th birthday on Tuesday (Nov. 7), in what his son Franklin described as “stable” health, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is kicking off a yearlong celebration of the preacher’s past. Franklin Graham, who heads the association, said it will highlight the elder Graham’s “impact on worldwide evangelism and personal testimonies of people whose lives were forever changed at one of my father’s crusades.”

It’s safe to say that Billy Graham’s politics won’t be a central focus of the commemoration. But when he was an up-and-coming preacher wearing hand-painted ties, and later, when he was America’s leading Christian evangelist in the heart of the Cold War, everyone knew where he stood on politics.

Graham railed against communism and anti-war demonstrators. He helped presidential candidates and gave them advice once they made it to the White House.

Over the years, Graham spoke to an estimated 84 million people at his crusades around the world, his wide reach increasing to 210 million when it includes…

We Sense God Moving in Germany on 500th Anniversary of Reformation

(Photo: The Christian Post)A YWAM outreach team worships God in the main street in downtown Wittenberg, Germany, on Oct. 31, 2017.

WITTENBERG — Missionaries marking the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation sense a spiritual breakthrough for Europe and the entire world.

As tens of thousands descended upon the city where the Protestant Reformation began, The Christian Post encountered young people from Youth With A Mission singing songs and worshiping God with guitars on the main street in downtown Wittenberg, the town made famous by Martin Luther.

“We really sense there is some move of God,” said Susanne Schmell, a German native who leads the YWAM base in Bad Blankenburg, which is about 130 miles south and west of Wittenberg.

The group brought a few hundred Bibles to distribute, thinking people would be closed but locals and other Germans were practically “ripping them out of their hands” with eagerness, she said, saying they did indeed want a Bible. The young people hailed from Ukraine, New Zealand, and the United States. One young man from Afghanistan loved passing out Bibles.
