Following Shooting, Texas Attorney General Says Church-Goers Should be Armed

After a deadly mass shooting at a Texas church, the Texas Attorney General has said American Christians should arm themselves when they go to church.

Republican Ken Paxton said churches should consider “arming some of the parishioners” or hiring security.

His comments come after 26 people were shot and killed at First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

“It’s going to happen again,” Paxton said.

‘We’ve had shootings in churches for, you know, for forever. It’s going to happen again, and so we need people in churches, professional security or at least arming some of the parishioner or the congregation so they can respond if something like this – when something like this happens again.”

Texas law says that churchgoers may carry a concealed weapon into worship centers unless the church specifically forbids it.

President Donald Trump also issued a statement after the shooting, saying that the killings were because of the shooter’s “mental health problems” and not a “guns situation.”

Former President Barack Obama released a statement on Twitter, saying that he hoped the country would take steps to prevent these kind of attacks.

“We grieve with all the families in Sutherland Springs harmed by this act of hatred, and we’ll stand with the survivors as they recover… May God also grant all of us the wisdom to ask what…

Call of prayer for those involved in Westminster harassment scandal

Rt Rev Rachel Treweek said it’s important as Christians not to judge the several Conservative and Labour MPs being investigated over claims of sexual misconduct.

She told Premier how we could pray for those with question marks over them.

She said: “We need to be praying for individuals and we need to be praying for the culture within Westminster – about how we cannot use any abuse of power.

“My starting point in my prayers is that we are all broken people. It’s important to remember that as Christians, we are following Christ who died for us out of our brokenness and from there a place of resurrection and hope came.

“Those who feel they are powerful and important need to recognise… that they are no more important than anyone else who works here from someone who cleans the building through to people who work in offices – we are all equal made in the image of God and we need to live those relationships well and that is my prayer.”

Theresa May has promised to “create a new culture of respect” in public life following the allegations of sexual abuse in Westminster.

The Prime Minister’s told top business leaders she wants a climate in which victims know their complaints will be properly investigated.

She’s meeting with other party leaders on Monday afternoon about how to tackle the issue.

Rt Rev Treweek said that it is however important that those guilty of harassment acknowledge their wrongdoing.

She said: “So for…

We Must Protect American Lives .

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson (Jonathan Ernst / Reuters )

Today, the ACLJ sent a letter to the Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, advising him that he has the power to immediately close the legal loophole used by the terrorist Sayfullo Saipov to enter the United States: the Diversity Visa Program.

There is no reason this program should remain in effect any longer. We must protect American lives.

On Oct. 31, 2017, Saipov, who pledged his allegiance to ISIS, used a rented truck to mow down…

Christian financial advisor defends Queen over possible tax avoidance

John Morris from the Harvest Partnership said that investors have different reasons for investing off-shore.

Speaking during News Hour, he said: “People may use it because the level of regulation may be slightly less and at the extreme end of things people may use an offshore investment because they believe they are concealing money from HMRC.”

His comments follow the Prime Minister’s spokesperson sharing the fact that the UK’s tax authority has asked to see the leaked documents detailing popular tax avoidance schemes.

The so-called Paradise Papers reveal secret overseas investments of the rich and powerful invest millions in offshore tax havens.

Those involved include the Queen’s private estate, Conservative party donor Lord Ashcroft and U2 frontman Bono.

Morris said that it’s also important to understand the climate in which some of these people may have invested.

He said: “We have to look back and we have to say the particular investments that were chosen, were done in 2004, 2005.

“The climate on these things was very different then. These things were often done at arm’s length so people don’t actually know what’s going on.”

Meanwhile, Labour’s renewed its call for a public inquiry into tax avoidance.

Jeremy Corbyn has suggested the Queen should apologise if her private estate invested £10 million of her personal fortune offshore to avoid paying tax in Britain.

The Labour leader said those involved in the…

Christians Appeal Ruling Forcing Them to Make Gay Wedding Invitations

Christians Appeal Ruling Forcing Them to Make Gay Wedding Invitations

Two Christian business owners of a stationery company are appealing a judge’s ruling that forced them to make invitations for same-sex weddings.

According to The Christian Institute, Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski run a business called Brush & Nib Studio, which specializes in invitations for weddings and other events.

The Christian women were threatened with a $2,500 fine and possible imprisonment if they did not accommodate their business to same-sex couples.

In order to prevent this from occurring, the business owners filed a pre-enforcement challenge against the city of Phoenix, Arizona.

Judge Karen Mullins of Maricopa County Superior Court ruled against Duka and Koski. In her ruling, Mullins stated that “the printing of same-sex persons’ names on wedding invitations does not hinder in any way plaintiffs’ independent exercise of (their) religious belief.”

Now, with the help of Alliance Defending Freedom, Duka and Koski are appealing Mullins’ decision.

ADF legal counsel Jonathan Scruggs commented on the case:

“Breanna and Joanna are happy to create custom art for all people; they simply object to being forced to pour their heart, imagination, and talent into creating messages that violate their conscience,” he said.

“Phoenix must allow them and any other artists to make their own decisions about which messages they will promote. That’s…

Church leader’s mixed emotions at Snowdonia move

Rev Roland Barnes also expressed pain at leaving his current Ministry Leader post in the south of the national park, where he has lived for 37 years.

The married father-of-two said: “Moving will be a great wrench; leaving so many good friends, with whom we’ve shared all the ups and downs of life for over half a lifetime.”

“However, as I have prayed and thought about this new role, I believe that it will be an excellent opportunity for me and the faithful people of Bro Moelwyn to grow together in our faith and service to our Lord.”

Born and raised in the Bala area, on the eastern tip of Snowdonia, Rev Barnes was ordained in 2003 after training for ministry with the Diocese of Bangor.

The Bishop of Bangor, Rt Rev Andy John said: “Roland has been a faithful shepherd to his local communities for many years.

“I give thanks to God for all that Roland has accomplished, and thank Roland for his ministry in Bro Cyfeiliog and Mawddwy.

“Now he has the opportunity to use his gifts in new communities, to lead and grow the Body of Christ in Bro Moelwyn.”

A service to mark Rev Barnes’ new appointment is planned for February next year.

Establishing Ministry Areas – one aspect of the Church in Wales’ 2020 Vision – has been among a catalogue of changes to try to boost growth in the face of shrinking congregations.

Brothers describe discovering they were abused by the same vicar

Speaking to the BBC, the brothers said it wasn’t until they heard a story about an abusive vicar on the radio that they realised they had both been abused as children by Rev Roy Cotton.

Phil Johnson explained: “… I could just see out of the corner of my eye that Gary froze. He stopped what he was doing and it was just like the penny dropped in that moment.

“I just turned to him and I said ‘did anything happen to you with Roy Cotton?'”

Phil and Gary Johnson claim they were both abused by the Rev Cotton whilst they were members of the choir at St Andrews church in Eastbourne.

Gary Johnson said he felt “time sort of froze” when his older brother asked him about what he had kept a secret since he was a child.

He said: “What was going through my mind in the moment was less about what happened in the past. It was more about the fact that what I had tried to keep secret was now out.

“And I knew there was no way back. I didn’t know what was going to happen next. I didn’t know how to respond, so that’s why I just didn’t.

“But it was a horrible sensation. It was almost like being caught red-handed.”

Rev Cotton, who died in 2006, was never prosecuted, as the brothers were told there weren’t enough independent witnesses to prosecute him.

However, the brothers’ case led to the prosecutions of several other clergy and a national inquiry ordered by Theresa May when she was home secretary.
