British missionary killed and three released after being held hostage in Nigeria

The circumstances surrounding Ian Squire’s death, three weeks after his kidnap, were not immediately clear.

It is understood that Squire and fellow Christian charity workers David and Shirley Donovan and Alanna Carson were working as missionaries when they were abducted from their accommodation in Delta State in the south of the country in the early hours of 13th October.

A UK Foreign Office spokesman said: “We are supporting the families of four British people who were abducted on October 13 in Nigeria, one of whom was tragically killed.

“This has clearly been a traumatic time for all concerned, and our staff will continue to do all we can to support the families.

“We are grateful to the Nigerian authorities, and are unable to comment given the ongoing nature of their investigations.”

In a statement, the families of the four hostages said: “Alanna, Ian, David and Shirley were kidnapped in Nigeria some three weeks ago.

“We are grateful for the support received by the British High Commission and help from the Nigerian authorities in negotiating their release.

“We are delighted and relieved that Alanna, David and Shirley have returned home safely. Our thoughts are now with the family and friends of Ian as we come to terms with his sad death.

“This has been a traumatic time for our loved ones who were kidnapped and for their families and friends here in the UK. We would therefore ask that the media respect our privacy as we come to terms with the news. We…

Denzel Washington Urges Christian Millennials to Boldly Share Their Faith

Denzel Washington Urges Christian Millennials to Boldly Share Their Faith

Well-known actor Denzel Washington, who often speaks about his Christian faith, recently encouraged young people to be unashamed of their faith, even on social media.

In an interview about his upcoming film Roman J. Israel, Esq., in which he plays a defense attorney who must stand up for his convictions, Washington had some words of wisdom for the Millennial Generation.

“I would say to your generation — find a way to work together because this is a very divisive, angry time you’re living in, unfortunately, because we didn’t grow up like that,” he said, as reported by The Christian Post.

Washington also encouraged young people to refrain from becoming addicted to social media, but when they use it, to do so to share God’s Word.

“I pray for your generation,” he said. “What an opportunity you have! Don’t be depressed by it because we have to go through this, we’re here now. You can’t put that thing back in the box.”

Washington went on to share how he and Dan Gilroy, the writer and director of Roman J. Israel, Esq., prayed and shared the Word of God every day while working on the film.

“We prayed every day, we read the daily Word every day,” he said.

“My mother said to me when I was 59, she said, ‘Denzel, you do a lot of good. You have to do good the right way and you know what I’m talking about,'” he concluded. “I don’t drink anymore, I don’t do any of…

Carl Lentz, Pastor to Justin Bieber, Kevin Durant Defines ‘Star’ as Cancer-Stricken Single Mom Volunteer

(Photo: The Christian Post/Scott Liu)Pastor Brian Houston of Hillsong Church looks on as Hillsong NYC pastor Carl Lentz speaks during a press conference on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at The Eventi Hotel in New York City. The press conference came on the occasion of the Hillsong Conference being held at Madison Square Garden from Oct. 16-18 in NYC.

Carl Lentz of Hillsong Church New York City said that although some may view him as a pastor to major stars, such as Justin Bieber and Kevin Durant, others in his congregation, such as a single mother fighting cancer, are also stars and heroes.

“I think everybody’s a star in their own right,” Lentz said, according to the Associated Press. “God has created everybody with really special unique things about their life and about who they are.”

The megachurch pastor shared the story of a single mother who is stricken with cancer but continues to volunteer at Hillsong, describing her as a “star.”

“This is a hero,” he said. “So when people say I’m a pastor to the stars, I just assume they’re referring to that woman alone.”

Lentz talked about some of the famous names he pastors to, such as pop superstar Bieber and Golden State Warriors basketball player Durant. He denied rumors that he influenced Kyrie Irving to leave the Cleveland…

Bishop praying US reviews gun laws

A gunman opened fire at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas killing 26 people and injuring 20.

Police described the victims as “defenceless people”.

A short time after the incident, the suspect was found dead in his vehicle at the county border.

President Donald Trump, who was in Japan, called the shooting an “act of evil”, later calling the gunman “a very deranged individual”.

However he denied the need to address the gun laws saying mental health is a more important issue.

Bishop of Gloucester Rt Rev Rachel Treweek, who’s sitting in the House of Lords this week, is calling for a rethink.

“I do hope and pray it will help Americans review their gun laws,” she told Premier.

Survey: 1 in 5 Jewish Millennials Believes Jesus is the Son of God

Survey: 1 in 5 Jewish Millennials Believes Jesus is the Son of God

Although a defining difference between Christian and Jewish beliefs is that Christians believe Jesus is the incarnate Son of God and Jews do not believe Jesus is the Messiah, a recent survey has surprisingly shown that over one in five Jewish millennials do believe Jesus is the Son of God.

.News.com reports that the study, which was commissioned by Jews for Jesus and conducted by the Barna Group, is titled Jewish Millennials: The Beliefs and Behaviors Shaping Young Jews in America. The survey found that 21 percent of Jewish millennials (born between 1984 and 1999) believe Jesus was “God in human form who lived among people in the first century” and 28 percent “see him as a rabbi or spiritual leader, but not God.”

Additionally, 42 percent of Jewish millennials who were surveyed said they celebrate Christmas.

Ari Kelman, a professor of Jewish studies at Stanford University, was surprised at the survey’s results:

“These don’t look like Jews I recognize,” said Kelman. However, he continued, “I was not willing to just write them off entirely. Maybe these are Jews we’ve never seen before. We know religion is changing; we know parameters of identity are changing; so why would we expect different generations to look exactly the same?”

For Christians, the survey offers hopeful information.

“This was a generation that was spiritual, that is willing to engage in the…

Bakers who refuse to bake gay-themed cakes shouldn’t be punished

The findings come from “The State of Free Speech and Tolerance in America” survey by Washington DC based think tank the Cato Institute.

The poll also went a step further and asked what should happen to a religious baker who refuses to bake a special-order cake for a same-sex wedding.

Most Americans (66 per cent) said nothing should happen to the baker.

However, 20 per cent of people surveyed said they would support a boycott of the bakery and 22 per cent would agree with a government punishment including: issuing a fine, requiring an apology, issuing a warning, revoking their business license, or sending the baker to jail.

Another 6 per cent support suing the baker for damages.

However, the report showed a split in public opinions about serving LGBT people vs. servicing same-sex weddings.

Fifty per cent said businesses with religious views should provide services to homosexuals. However, only 32 per cent said a baker should be required to bake a special-order cake for a same-sex wedding.

The findings come after a Christian cake artist from Colorado refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex ceremony.

Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop lost a case in 2014 in Colorado Civil Court. His legal battle has been taken to the US Supreme Court.

Also, Ashers Bakery in Northern Ireland has taken its case to the UK Supreme Court after it was accused of breaching equality laws by refusing to make a cake which supported same-sex marriage.
