Bishop tackles tough questions on chat show

So far “The Gap” has explored issues of food, identity, money, life and death.

Held at St Nicholas Church in Durham Market Place, each evening began with drama and song, then Bishop Paul and other guests took part in a debate around key issues.

He explained the idea of “The Gap” is to have a relaxed atmosphere where people feel confident to ask tough questions and voice their opinions, despite others having opposing views.

Before the start of the first evening’s show Bishop Paul said: “We want to engage people in thinking about the Christian faith, areas of life and living and show how the Christian faith is relevant.

“That is why we are tackling subjects such as food and money, so we try to help people see that the Christian faith is about all of life.”

The Diocese of Durham said the event was in partnership with Footprints Theatre Company which gave the show a “soap opera” feel.

Bishop Paul said:  “There are several twists along the way, each night it’s different and only comes to light as people watch the themed soap area unfold.

“The other twist is that the audience supplies all of the questions that we discuss via the audience in the show, via Twitter and via text.

“We don’t know what the questions are going to be so we respond to people and sometimes those questions can be quite challenging.”

The first show was about food and…

Supposed Surface Phone Replacement to Boast of Holographic Display

REUTERS/Morris Mac Matzen/Files

A Microsoft representative shows a smartphone with Windows 10 operating system at the CeBIT trade fair in Hanover in this file photo from March 15, 2015. Rumors claim that the next mobile device from Microsoft will be now be called Andromeda and not Surface Phone.

Amidst the reports claiming that Microsoft has already canceled its supposed Surface Phone, the latest rumors say that the Redmond-based company’s replacement for its mystical mobile device, the Andromeda, will come with a holographic display.

Following Microsoft’s confirmation that it is killing its Windows Phone, many believed that the company’s long-rumored mystical phone, the Surface Phone, has been canceled as well. While Microsoft never really confirmed that the Surface Phone was in its pipeline, recent rumors suggest that the tech giant replaced it with its new mobile device, the Andromeda.

While it is suggested that the Andromeda will still carry some features originally intended for the Surface Phone, especially its ability to fold and expand into a tablet, sources claim that it may be the first mobile device to come with a holographic display. Reportedly, Microsoft has already patented the technology, which will enable the device to display a floating image from one of the device’s two displays.

Sources claim that Alex Kipman, who works on Microsoft’s Mixed Reality platform, also takes the helm in the development of the unique display for Andromeda, which supposedly uses micro-lenses to project the image above the surface of device’s display.

While some suspect that the Andromeda and the…

Charles and Camilla attend church service in Malaysia capital

Charles and Camilla, who are on an 11-day tour of south-east Asia and India, took their seat in the front pew of St Mary’s Cathedral in the Malaysian capital.

The quiet setting of the Anglican place of worship was a contrast to the lavish gala dinner staged on Friday night where the heir to the throne said the Commonwealth can play a “pivotal” role in tackling global challenges.

Charles highlighted how the family of nations could draw on its “wide range of national contexts, experiences, traditions” in finding a solution to the major issues, as he addressed Malaysian leaders and members of the country’s royal family.

In the special service held in honour of the Prince and Duchess, the sermon was given by the Archbishop and Primate of the Anglican Church in South-East Asia, the Most Reverend Datuk Ng Moon Hing.

The Archbishop paid tribute to the early missionaries who brought Christianity to the region and the efforts of British troops in Malaysia during the 20th Century, including combating the communist insurgency known as the Emergency.

He said: “We also wish to remember many of the British security forces and Army personnel whose bravery and sacrifice speaks volumes and stands tall – where they defended this land during the Second World War and also during the Emergency.”

Pope slams ‘destruction’ of war during visit to cemetery in Rome

He laid flowers on 10 graves as he marked the Catholic All Souls’ Day commemorating the dead.

Francis saw the graves of 7,680 American war dead buried in the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery.

It also commemorates 3,095 people who went missing in campaigns to liberate southern and central Italy, from Sicily north to Rome, during the Second World War.

The Pope suggested the sight of the arcs of white headstones would stand as a call for peace, saying “no more war, no more of these useless massacres”.

He said that humanity has not learned, or has not wanted to learn, the lessons of war.

He said: “How often in history, when men think of making war, they are convinced of bringing a new world, they are convinced that they are making spring.

“It ends in winter; ugly, cruel, a reign of terror, of death.”

Calling for prayers for all the dead, the Pope made special mention of those “who are dying in the battle every day”.

He referred again to what he has called “a war of pieces”, the many eruptions of violence and attacks around the globe.

Winning Wisdom: You Can Also

Topic: You Can Also [Saturday, 4th November, 2017]

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin. Hebrews 4:15 NIV

Have you ever gotten to a point in life where you’re like “I’m done. I can’t stand it anymore. I give up.” It could be with relationships, academics, career, ministry, family, even with yourself. Or you’re trapped in a fix and you just can’t deal with making a decision. Well I have. But then, I think about the life of Christ, and how He went through all these things I went through. It seems impossible, but Hebrews 4:15 says that he was tempted in every way. Let’s go through scripture for two examples of his temptations and how it affects us and our present struggles.

Rejection/ Belittling: “And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?  Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?  And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?” (Matthew 13:54‭-‬56). Your very own people do not believe in your calling or the wonders you perform. Now you’ve taken offence and have decided to stop praying for them? No. Look to Christ. He was rejected in his home, but He didn’t let pride and anger set in. He did the best their faith could carry, and moved on with His ministry.

False Witness against you: “Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death; But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,” (Matthew 26:59‭-‬60). A calculated plot to take him down by all means, but guess what? He didn’t cry “vengeance, Lord, take vengeance against them.” But He said on the cross “Father forgive them.” They’ve lied and made plans to drag your name in the mud. Look to Jesus and say “Forgive Lord, forgive.”

No matter what you go through in a bid to fulfill your ministry, never let it becloud your vision and distract you from what the Lord has called you to do. It will never be plain sailing, but know this “when you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you” (Isaiah 43:2).

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Father, it is trying and hard having to go through all of these things. But knowing that Christ has gone through these gives me hope I also will. Help me to learn from You, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Our Daily Manna November 4, 2017: ODM devotional – The Weapon Of Worship -1

Our Daily Manna November 4, 2017: ODM devotional – The Weapon Of Worship -1

Always remember this: True worship acknowledges God’s true worth and in every trial you face, worship is at stake!

Topic: The Weapon Of Worship -1 [Saturday, November 4, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: Revelation 4:1-11

Welcome! The greatest relationship between Christ and the saint (believing Christian) centers on worship. See Revelation 4:9-11: “And when those beasts give glory to him that sat on the throne, who liveth forever and ever, the four and twenty elders fall down before him, cast their crowns before the throne saying, “thou art worthy O Lord……….” Listen, child of God, as far as satan is concerned, you must worship him (satan) by force. He attacks you because he wants your worship!

Worship is his problem and worship is at stake in every battle/temptation you face. Remember that he fell because he badly needed worship from the other angels. He is still looking for worship! If he gets worship, he has everything and he is willing to do anything to obtain worship with or without any cost. Did he not “beg” Jesus Christ to worship him? (Matt 4:8-9). That’s how desperate Lucifer was and is, in the matter of worship. Satan is seeking to take the place of God in your life! He sends problems, obstacles or trials your way daily and his chief aim is to get you to curse God and worship him (Job 2:9).

As 2017 ends and 2018 begins, the Holy Ghost is screaming out a message to every user of this devotional worldwide: Deny Satan, your worship! In any trial, keep trusting God! To sustain saintly values of holiness will be so tough in these and times, because worship is not just a song. Worship is total submission: Casting your crowns (your time, money, your joy, your life) down!

It means stripping oneself of all that matters that He, JEHOVAH God alone might be exalted. The devil fears a totally submitted life. It is a powerful weapon against him. Pursue it today! Pursue it daily! Always remember this: True worship acknowledges God’s true worth and in every trial you face, worship is at stake!

Joyce Meyer’s Daily 4 November 2017 Devotional: Does God Love You When You Make Mistakes?

Joyce Meyer's Daily 4 November 2017 Devotional: Does God Love You When You Make Mistakes?

Topic: Does God Love You When You Make Mistakes? [Saturday November 4, 2017]

But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us. — Romans 5:8

Have you ever wondered if you are good enough for God to love you? Unfortunately, many people believe God loves them only as long as they don’t make mistakes.

Perhaps it was this outlook that caused the psalmist to ask, What is man that You are mindful of him?… (Psalm 8:4). Yet, the Bible tells us that we are God’s creation—the work of His hands—and that He loves each one of us unconditionally.

Let’s face it: Jesus didn’t die for you because you were great and wonderful; He died for you because He loves you. Romans 5:8-9 confirms this truth by telling us that He died for us while we were still sinners.

God loved you enough to give His only begotten Son, not only to die for your sins, but also to cover your daily mistakes. He loves you so much, He wants you to live each day in power and victory.

God loves you, and He wants you to believe it and receive it all the time…even when you make mistakes.

Prayer Starter: Lord, Your love is incredible You love me even when it doesn’t make sense to me. When I make mistakes, You are still with me. Thank You for  Your truly unconditional love today.
