‘Shocking Behavior’: Only 1.5 Percent of Syrian Christians Accepted into Western Nations

Only 1.5 percent of Syrian refugees granted refugee status by Western countries in 2016 were Christians.

The charity Barnabas Fund said the United Nations has “failed miserably” to protect those refugees— of which many are Christians.

“This is shocking behavior by the U.N. and U.K. officials,” said Barnabas Fund’s Martin Parsons in an interview with Express.

“In 2005 the U.N. adopted the responsibility of states to protect citizens from genocide and crimes against humanity. These statistics show that it has failed miserably in this. Christians and other minorities have been treated shamefully by the U.N. And the U.K. has outsourced its own responsibilities in spite of repeated representations.”

According to figures recently released from the charity, Christians make up about 10 percent of Syria’s population.

In the United States, only 125 of the 15,479 Syrian refugees admitted into the U.S. were Christians.

In the United Kingdom, the country sheltered more than 8,000 refugees in 2015 and 2016, but only 70 were Christians. There were only 22 Yazidis, another religious minority.

The United Kingdom’s Home Office responded to the numbers this week, saying: “We are clear that our scheme will prioritize the most vulnerable refugees, and that is why under the Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme, the U.N. High Commissioner for…

Patriarch of Jerusalem warns a proposed bill could threaten Christians

His Most Godly Beatitude Theophilus III, who is touring the UK said that rules protecting the rights of Jews and Christians to live together and access holy places, are being undermined.

In a statement recorded at Premier, he explained what had prompted his visit.

He said: “We have been mandated by all the church leaders in the holy land to share our story and raise awareness of the challenges we are facing as a Christian community in Jerusalem.

“Recently we have seen the emergence of a trend that threatens to undermine the Christian presence and destabilise the peace of the holy city of Jerusalem.

“The ‘status quo’ rules, that has guaranteed the rights of Jews, Christians and Muslims to live, flourish and thrive together in Jerusalem for centuries is in grave danger. This code, that has safeguarded our religious freedoms and provided access to the most holy places for all people, is being dangerously undermined.”

He said members of the national legislature of Israel (Knesset), last July signed a proposed bill for debate in the Israeli parliament, which if passed, will severely restrict the rights of the Churches to deal freely and independently with their lands. He added that it could also lead to their land being confiscated.

Spokesperson for the Patriarch, ambassador Partick Theros, told Premier’s News Hour how bad the situation for Christians in Jerusalem is.

He said: “In the last couple of decades, a small but very vociferous and very well connected…

‘God and Donald Trump’ Impresses Avid Trump Supporter Jim Bakker .

Jim Bakker and I discuss my book, “God and Donald Trump.” (The Jim Bakker Show )

In my new book God and Donald Trump, I say that no one supported Trump more (in my opinion) than my long-time friend, Jim Bakker.

In June 2016, he invited me on The Jim Bakker Show to talk about . magazine devoting its October issue to Trump. I thought that, because of the Johnson Amendment, perhaps Bakker was using me as an excuse to talk about the election.

As time passed, he became more and more passionate…

The Three Most Common Sentences in Dying Churches

SUBSCRIBE TODAY: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play

Churches headed toward the end of their lives have something in common—you’ll likely hear these sentences from members. Mark Clifton joins us to talk about how to react when you do hear these.

Today’s Listener Question:

FROM TOBY

I just began my first pastorate at a church that needs revitalizing. Everyone has been great so far, but I’ve listened to Rainer on Leadership enough to know that will change eventually. What are some buzzwords or phrases that should raise some red flags for me and how do I respond?

Episode Highlights:

  • Dying churches often don’t make wise decisions.
  • “We’ve never done it that way before” is just another way of saying “I don’t want to change.”
  • Get people to change by giving them something more valuable to enjoy that what they’re holding onto.
  • Is your church really there for its community?

The three sentences that we cover in this episode are:

  1. “We’ve never done it that way before.”
  2. “Our pastor doesn’t visit enough.”
  3. “People know where our church is if they want to come here.”

Resources mentioned in this episode include:

Revitalize & Replant is sponsored by the North American Mission Board and ChurchReplanters.com. More than 10% of churches in North America are at risk of closing and the North American Mission Board is committed to reversing this trend by decreasing the death rate of existing churches while simultaneously increasing the birth rate of…

Houston Astros Win World Series: Altuve Says, “Best Success, Live Your Life for God”

It’s going down as one of the hardest fought, most thrilling World Series of all time, and Houston is celebrating. Fireworks and loud cheers lit up the city Wednesday night, as the Astros claimed their first World Series title in franchise history, defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7, 5-1.

CNN reports, “Houston started the game off fast, scoring all of its five runs in the first two innings off Dodgers starter Yu Darvish. The early run support was all the Astros needed.”

“We’re coming home a champion, Houston,” George Springer said after accepting the World Series MVP trophy named this year for Willie Mays.

The now famous Sports Illustrated cover of 2014, after Houston had lost more than 100 games for three straight years, proclaimed: “Your 2017 World Series Champs.” It featured a picture of Springer in a bright Astros jersey.

“The Astros hit rock bottom, and then some, before beginning one of the best turnarounds in memory,” notes CBSSports.com.

And turnaround, they did. Playing for a city still recovering from Hurricane Harvey and wearing an “H Strong” logo on their jerseys, the Astros brought home the prize that had eluded them since they started out in 1962 as the Colt .45s.

“I always believed that we could make it,” All-Star slugger Jose Altuve said. “We did this for them,” referring to Houston fans who recently endured the…

U.S. Pastors Planning Pilgrimage to Holy Land Urge Christians to Support Israel

U.S. Pastors Planning Pilgrimage to Holy Land Urge Christians to Support Israel

Leaders from the American Pastors Network (APN) are urging U.S. Christians to support Israel. The pastors are also planning a trip to the Holy Land.

According to .News.com, APN President Sam Rohrer, along with “Stand in the Gap Today” co-hosts Gary Dull of the Pennsylvania Pastors Network (PPN) and Dave Kistler of the North Carolina Pastors Network (NCPN), have made it a priority to inform their listeners of today’s news, especially as it relates to Israel.

“News from Israel should be extremely critical to Christians,” said Rohrer. “And the importance of Israel to today’s Christian leaders cannot be overstated. The simple reason we must support the state of Israel is because God does. The Jews are His chosen people, and He gave His promise to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob that He would not only bless them but also bless every nation that blesses them and curse every nation that curses them. Throughout history, God has miraculously protected the Jewish people although the nations around them have sought to annihilate them.

Rohrer added that it is essential for U.S. Christians to stand with Israel as God’s chosen people:

“What America does in relationship to the support of Israel is the difference between experiencing God’s blessing or God’s judgment on our nation. Additionally, Israel has long been America’s strongest ally in the Middle East,…

John Piper Lists 6 Ways Some Protestant Preachers ‘Dishonor God’s Word’ Despite Reformation

(Photo: Passion Conference)John Piper, founder of Desiring God and chancellor of Bethlehem College and Seminary, speaks from the book of Revelation at the Passion 2016 conference Sunday morning, January 3, 2016, in Duluth, Georgia.

Some Protestant preachers continue to “dishonor God’s word” 500 years after the Reformation, evangelical theologian John Piper has said, listing six common ways in which this danger manifests.

In response to a question from an anonymous church leader about preachers straying from Scripture in their sermons, Piper wrote on his desiringGod.com website on Wednesday that it’s a “far too common” problem.

“First, preaching that does not show the people what the text means and what those implications are for our lives is failing to honor the nature of the text as God’s glorious revelation of what we need to know and how it relates to our life,” Piper began.

“It’s failing to honor the text, and he is failing to honor the people in the congregation who should be shown by preaching how they themselves can see glorious truth from the text that is relevant for their lives.”

Piper then accused some preachers of failing to “exult over the exposition of what they’ve seen in the biblical texts,” and said that such ministers reveal “their own laziness,”…

Female clergy call for independent mediators into CofE abuse

In a letter to the Guardian, Jayne Ozanne, a senior member of the general synod for the diocese of Oxford, said: “Abuse of power, particularly in relation to sexual misdemeanours, will never be dealt with by those within the same said power structures.

“The urge to protect one’s reputation is too strong.

“Make no mistake, the instances of sexual abuse and harassment within the church are manifold – at virtually every level of the hierarchy.”

Ozanne says that a bishop advised her not to report her claim that a priest had raped her in the 1990s.

“I trusted him because he was a priest,” she told Channel 4 News. “Shame and guilt is what kept me quiet and silent for so many years.”

Premier spoke to Natalie Collins, who started Spark – a group that equips churches to prevent violence against women.

She told Premier that Christian circles may face different problems when it comes to helping people feel they can speak.

Speaking during Premier’s News Hour, she said: “We have whole issues with purity culture and modesty culture which says, ‘well, women, if you dress a certain way it’s your fault if a man behaves in that way’ and so actually for a lot of women they have been conditioned to blame themselves and say ‘if he’s done that to me it must be my fault’.

“The focus should more be on – instead of saying, ‘what can women can be doing to speak up?’, ‘how should women be changing how they respond?’ – we should be saying ‘How do we stop men be…
