John Lennon’s murderer says he has been forgiven by Jesus

Mark Chapman was convicted of assassinating Lennon outside his New York home in 1980. Known as an obsessed fan, Chapman shot the rock star in the back four times.

According to the Daily Mirror, the 62-year-old wrote a letter to a US pen pal named Michael about his regrets.

In the letter, Chapman said that he had committed a “heinous crime” and that he’s “never forgotten” the “horrible occurrence”.

But he added: “Jesus is a real, living person I have come to know.

“Jesus is everything. I have found this through the many long years here at Attica [the New York State jail where he was previously held].

“Through it all I have come to know he cares very deeply for me – and for you.

“He chose to die so that our sins – even mine – could be forgiven.”

Chapman also said that Michael can also “know” and “feel” this saviour.

Further along in the letter, Chapman claimed to have written a book called The Prisoner’s Letter.

According to the newspaper, a man who runs a website dedicated to selling personal property of high-profile criminals sold the letter to an anonymous bidder in the US for £265.

However, Eric Holler, who created Serial Killer Ink said he got the letter from someone who was Chapman’s pen pal.

He added that the letter was sold within an hour of it being listed on his website.

Chapman was sentenced to 20 years to life in jail in 1981 after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.  He has been denied parole…

Six Essentials for Advertising on Facebook This Christmas

By Jonathan Howe

It’s November, so it’s time to talk about Christmas—at least that’s what my kids tell me. And with Christmas Eve falling on a Sunday, we’ll have more discussion later about what services and activities churches are planning for this year. But for now, let’s talk about Facebook, Christmas, and your church.

Facebook advertising is the most effective way of getting the word out about your church’s Christmas programming and services. Every church should be using Facebook in some way to promote their services to those in the community. Here are six essentials for doing so:

  1. Target your audience. If you’re going to spend money to reach people, you want to target a specific group as much as possible. Facebook’s ability to target boosted posts or ads to specific zip codes is the best way to reach those in your community with messages from your church.
  2. Use high quality graphics. While advertising will increase your paid reach, your organic (unpaid) reach will greatly increase when you use attractive graphics. Don’t use clip art. If you can’t afford a designer, simply use Christmas templates from Canva or a template from your Christmas cantata publisher if they provide one.
  3. Create Facebook events for your major events. By creating an event for special events during the Christmas season, you can remind those who like your page about the event. You can also share relevant details and answer any questions someone may have about the event.
  4. Encourage members to invite…

Gospel Coalition Lists 9 of the Biggest Challenges Facing the Church as the Reformation Turns 500

(Photo: Reuters/Hannibal Hanschke)German theologian Martin Luther’s theses door is pictured during the 500th anniversary of the Reformation at the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, on October 31, 2017.

The Gospel Coalition has listed nine of the greatest challenges facing Christianity worldwide, as believers marked the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.

Kevin DeYoung, chairman of the board of The Gospel Coalition, and senior pastor of Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, North Carolina, wrote in an article on Tuesday that Christians cannot be blind to the major issues, which he listed as: “Secularization in the former countries of Christendom, opposition to biblical orthodoxy in the West, and increasing violence against the church in parts of the Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia.”

DeYoung continued: “Theological heterodoxy holds sway in too many places, as do grinding poverty (on the one hand) and affluent indifference (on the other). And this is to say nothing of rising racial tensions, widespread nominalism, and the plight of those — numbering in the billions — who have no access to the Gospel.”

Still, he said that the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, observing the day on Oct. 31, 1517, when Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses to the door of the…

Union claims retail workers ‘traumatised’ by repetitive Christmas songs

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers has asked that retailers choose a more varied selection of music and to start playing Christmas songs a bit later.

It claimed that constant repetition of Christmas songs in shops is damaging the mental health of some workers.

It also said some workers have become traumatised by jingle bells and mistletoe and wine.

Linda Blair who is a clinical psychologist said: “Christmas music is likely to irritate people if it’s played too loudly and too early.

“It might make us feel that we’re trapped – it’s a reminder that we have to buy presents, cater for people, organise celebrations.

“Some people will react to that by making impulse purchases, which the retailer likes. Others might just walk out of the shop. It’s a risk.”

However, Gary Grant who is the Managing Director of The Entertainer toy shop said it’s never too early

He said: “In the middle of October, it starts off as being one in four songs. Now it’s one out of two. In a couple of weeks’ time it’ll be all Christmas music.”

The reason is all about making people spend more money and earlier: “We basically spend 10 months preparing for two.

“Without these final eight weeks we wouldn’t make any money.”

Priest prays for doctor accused of murdering mother

Father Feargal McGrady told mourners at the funeral of Anne O’Neill, 51, on Tuesday that her death was a “double tragedy” and prayed “in a special way” for her son Declan, who is charged with her murder.

Ms O’Neill, a mother of two, died on Saturday October 22, following an alleged attack at her parents’ house in Ardmore Avenue, Finaghy, in the early hours of the morning.

She was discovered in the back garden with injuries.

Emergency crews tried to resuscitate her but were unable to save her and she died at the scene.

Declan O’Neill, 27, of Malone Avenue, was remanded in custody charged with her murder.

The doctor, who denies the charge, had been working as a locum at Belfast Trust hospitals.

He did not seek bail when he was charged with murder.

Family and friends of Ms O’Neill gathered for Requiem Mass in St Anne’s Church at Kingsway, Finaghy, on Tuesday morning.

In his homily Fr McGrady, the parish priest, told mourners: “As this is a double tragedy, we pray in a special way for Declan this morning.”

He said that everyone’s “hearts are breaking” for Ms O’Neill’s elderly parents Claire and George and all the family.

“It just seems too much. Too much also for Anne’s daughter Claire-Anne who is at the cliff-face of this double tragedy,” he said.

“I wish we could change it, Claire-Anne, but we all need to help you live for the future.

“We are all to some extent held captive in this world, imprisoned – we’ve made…

Joel and Victoria Osteen’s daily November 1, 2017 devotional: Declare the Shift is Coming!

Joel and Victoria Osteen’s daily November 1, 2017 devotional: Declare the Shift is Coming!

Today’s Scripture: “You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; so light will shine on your ways.” (Job 22:28, NKJV)

Topic: Declare the Shift is Coming! [Wednesday November 1, 2017]

Today I declare that a shift is coming. Whatever you need—a shift in your health, a shift in your finances, or a shift in a relationship. It may not look like anything is happening in the natural, but we serve a supernatural God. He’s about to breathe in your direction in a new way! The enemies you have seen in the past, you will see no more. The addictions or bad habits that have held you back are being broken in Jesus’ name. God’s favor is being released in a new way that will propel you forward. What should have taken you 40 years to accomplish, God is going to do in a split second!

The shift is acceleration. The shift means going beyond where you could go on your own. The shift is seeing Jehovah Jireh, the Lord our Provider, do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond. Now our attitude should be, “God, I’m ready. I’m taking the limits off of You. I’m enlarging my vision. I may not see a way, but I know You have a way. I declare I’m coming into a shift!”

A Prayer for Today: “Father, today I open my heart and mind to You. I declare that a supernatural shift is coming my way. I receive Your Word, I receive Your truth, and I receive the increase You have in store for me in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

From Joel Osteen Ministries.
