‘Cowardly act of terror’ kills eight in NYC

“This was an act of terror, and a particularly cowardly act of terror,” New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said after a man drove a truck into a Manhattan crowd yesterday. Eight were killed and eleven were wounded in the deadliest terror attack in New York City since 9/11.

This morning, Police Commissioner William J. Bratton asked, “Could it have been prevented? The New York Police Department works very hard to try to prevent terror attacks. And so many attacks have been prevented. But you can’t prevent them all. Yesterday was a very clear example of that.”

This is the sixty-seventh terror attack in America since 9/11. Where do we find the courage to face such unpredictable tragedy?

The video that shocked the world

On February 15, 2015, ISIS released a five-minute film showing the beheading of twenty-one Coptic Christians on a Mediterranean beach. The image of their deaths made global headlines. Their last words were “Lord Jesus Christ,” repeated at the moment of their deaths.

Now we’re learning that Libyan police recently found their bodies.

One of the twenty-one was an African man named Mathew Ayairga. He was not a Christian when he was forced to join the other kidnapped men on the beach. He was then asked to follow Islam or die. After witnessing the courageous faith of other Christians, he decided to become a follower of Jesus himself.

On camera, one of the terrorists could be seen asking, “Do you reject Christ?” Mathew responded boldly, “Their God is my God.” He then became a martyr for his new faith.

The next time you have an opportunity to stand boldly for Jesus, will Mathew’s courage encourage you?

What is All Saints Day?

Lemuria was a feast in ancient Rome during which the Romans performed rites to exorcise ghosts of the dead from their homes. On May 13, 609, Pope Boniface IV instituted All Saints Day, apparently intending the day to replace this pagan ritual. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory I moved the day to…

Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Won’t Own Newest Smartphone

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak isn’t getting his own iPhone X when the smartphone hits store shelves this Friday. The man who built Apple with Steve Jobs said he will wait and watch how consumers will respond to the iPhone X.

YouTube/CNBCSteve Wozniak, the Apple co-founder, will not be owning the iPhone X.

Wozniak always got hold of Apple’s latest products on the first day of release. The co-founder, however, spoke with CNBC and said that the iPhone X doesn’t have much to offer him.

“I’m happy with my iPhone 8, which is the same as the iPhone 7, which is the same as the iPhone 6.” Wozniak said.

The Apple co-founder also expressed skepticism over the Face ID feature’s reliability so he’s going to observe users first. He revealed, however, that his wife will have the iPhone X so he can check it out when she’s not using it.

Wozniak left Apple in 1985 after making a mark with the Apple II computer. He remains a consumer of the company’s products, however, despite his displeasure for where the company headed.

Known in Silicon Valley as the “Wizard of Woz,” the tech industry authority said he’s no longer interested in smartphones in general. He’s now keener in following up the latest developments in the electric vehicles and self-driving cars industry. He, however, told CNBC that he’s not impressed with Tesla and Elon Musk.

Meanwhile, the iPhone X sold out within minutes of the opening of pre-orders. Consumer demand for this smartphone is at an all-time high compared to the iPhone 8 released a few weeks earlier and despite…

UK stands with New York after terror attack kills eight

The men were reportedly part of a group of 10 friends exploring Manhattan on bicycles when the truck struck in Lower Manhattan on Tuesday.

In response to the atrocity – the deadliest terror attack to strike New York since September 11 – president Donald Trump ordered the security services to “step up” vetting procedures.

Eight people were killed and at least 11 others injured after a man drove the rented Home Depot truck on to the path on West Street at around 3pm local time (7pm GMT).

The driver, who has been identified by law enforcement officials as Sayfullo Saipov, 29, from Uzbekistan, was shot by police after jumping out of the vehicle with what turned out to be two fake guns. He was taken to hospital and is in police custody. Officers said his injuries are not life-threatening.

Hours after the attack, the names of the first victims emerged as Argentina’s foreign ministry said Hernan Diego Mendoza, Diego Enrique Angelini, Alejandro Damian Pagnucco, Ariel Erlij and Hernan Ferruchi had died.

The group were marking three decades since their graduation from Polytechnic College in the city of Rosario in central Argentina.

A sixth Argentinian man with the group, Martin Ludovico Marro, was taken to the Presbyterian hospital in Manhattan.

A Belgian national was also among the dead, the country’s deputy prime minister said.

On Tuesday night, police investigating the rampage were seen surrounding a white Toyota minivan with Florida number plates in the car park…

Memorise: And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel. – 2 Kings 2:2

Read: 1 Peter 4:12-13, 2 Kings 2:1-15 (KJV)

1 Peter 4:12-13:

12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:

13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

2 Kings 2:1-15:

1 And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.

2 And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.

3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

4 And Elijah said unto him, Elisha, tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Jericho. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.

5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

6 And Elijah said unto him, Tarry, I pray thee, here; for the LORD hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on.

7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.

8 And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground.

9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.

10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.

11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.

12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.

13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;

14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.

15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.

Bible in One Year: 1 Peter 2-5, Hosea 10, Hymn: Sing Hymn 7 – O Jesus, I Have Promised

MESSAGE:

There are some vital lessons we can benefit from the story of Elijah and Elisha found in our Bible reading today. The first thing we see in that story is that God always has something better, more precious and more glorious in store for His children. No matter where you are and where you plan to be, God always has a better plan for you. This is why 2 Timothy 1:9 says,

“Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,”

Coming up next: Open Heavens 3 November 2017: Friday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – Upturning Blessing

God has a unique purpose for your life. When you become born again, you were called by God to fulfil that purpose, and He also called you to holiness (1 Thessalonians 4:7). This call of God on you is referred to as a ‘high calling’ (Philippians 3:14). Therefore, no matter how good you are in strategic planning, there is still a need for you to subordinate your plans under God’s will and allow Him to have His way in your life.  No wonder Psalm 37:5 says that you shall not fail to commit your ways unto God and trust Him to help you in actualising your plans. This is also why Proverbs 3:5-7 says that you should always tell God of your plans, so that He will provide divine guidance. Do you trust God enough to let Him direct your steps? Elisha was a successful businessman before the mantle of God’s call fell on him, and he left his business to fellow God’s plan for his life (1 Kings 19:19). Eventually, he became a father to the whole nation of Israel and kings called him ‘father’

Moreover, another lesson is that although God has a higher glory ahead for you, He can use people, situations and circumstances to test your resolve along the way. Sometimes when test come, we don’t recognise them as tests, and because of this, many of us fail the test. You have to pray that in the tests of life, you will not be a failure. When Prophet Elijah was to be taken away, he told his servant Elisha that he had been sent by God on some errands and that Elisha should not bother to follow him. Thank God Elisha was dogged and sensitive enough to realise that it was a test, and he passed the test brilliantly. Some tests of life are so crucial that failing them may rubbish all the past good efforts one has put into achieving greatness. May you not fail in the tests of life!

Prayer Point: Father, Whatever tests I would have to go through, please see me through. In the tests of life, let me not be a failure.

Hymn 7: O Jesus, I Have Promised

1. O Jesus, I have promised,
To serve Thee to the end;
Be Thou forever near me,
My Master and my Friend;

I shall not fear the battle
If Thou art by my side,
Nor wander from the pathway
If Thou wilt be my Guide.

2. Oh, let me hear Thee speaking,
In accents clear and still,
I dare not trust my judgment:
Thy way shall be my will;
Oh, speak to reassure me,
To hasten or control;
Oh, speak, and make me listen,
Thou Guardian of my soul.

3. O Jesus, Thou hast promised
To all who follow Thee
That where Thou art in glory
There shall Thy servant be;
And Jesus, I have promised
To serve Thee to the end;
Oh, give me grace to follow,
My Master and my Friend.

4. Oh, let me see Thy footmarks,
And in them plant mine own;
My hope to follow duly
Is in Thy strength alone.
Oh, guide me, call me, draw me,
Uphold me to the end;
And then in Heav’n receive me,
My Savior and my Friend

Teens’ Open Heavens 1 November 2017 by Pastor Adeboye – Grieve Not The Holy Spirit

Teens’ Open Heavens 1 November 2017 by Pastor Adeboye - Grieve Not The Holy Spirit

Topic: Grieve Not The Holy Spirit [Wednesday 1, November 2017]

Memorise: “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”Ephesians 4:30

Read: Matthew 12:24-31

24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges.

28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you.

29 Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he first bind the strong man? and then he will spoil his house.

30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

Bible In One Year: Luke 23-24. Hymn: Sing Hymn 5 – Oh Spread The Tiding Round

MESSAGE:

There are many Christians living in frustration and defeat because they have set themselves against the flow of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the secret behind every supernatural occurrence. Do you desire to know the plan of God for your browser tomorrow? Get the Holy Spirit. Do you want to live a successful Christian life? Get the Holy Spirit. Without the power of the Holy Spirit, you will live a life of continuous defeat.

As helpful as the Holy Spirit is, one should be careful in relating with Him. Ananias and Saphirra lied to Peter about how much they sold their land. They felt they were deceiving Peter, but they were wrong, and they died for it. The moment a person begins to rebel against the instructions in God’s Word, such a fellow is asking for trouble from the Holy Spirit.

Constantly ask for the infilling of the Holy Spirit. When your life is filled anew, you will find it easy to love what He loves.

Prayer Point: Father, help me not to grieve Your Holy Spirit.

Sing Hymn 5: Oh Spread The Tiding Round

Oh, spread the tidings ’round, wherever man is found,
Wherever human hearts and human woes abound;
Let every Christian tongue proclaim the joyful sound: The Comforter has come!

Chorus:
The Comforter has come,
The Comforter has come!
The Holy Ghost from heav’n,
The Lord’s dear promise giv’n;
Oh, spread the tidings ’round,
Wherever man is found,
The Comforter has come!

2. The long, long night is past, the morning breaks at last;
And hushed the dreadful wail and fury of the blast,
As o’er the golden hills the day advances fast!
The Comforter has come!
Chorus:

3. Lo, the great King of kings, with healing in His wings,
To every captive soul a full deliv’rance brings;
And through the vacant cells the song of triumph rings:
The Comforter has come!
Chorus:

4. O boundless love divine! how shall this tongue of mine
To wond’ring mortals tell the matchless grace divine
That I, a child of hell, should in His image shine!
The Comforter has come!
Chorus.

Our Daily Manna November 1, 2017: ODM devotional – Managing Success -1

Our Daily Manna November 1, 2017: ODM devotional – Managing Success -1

Breakthrough is sweet, but can be bitter also, if not properly managed! Ask God for the grace to control your ‘Isaac’ (your success). Resist the praise of men/pride! Resist women! Resist men!

Topic: Managing Success -1 [Wednesday, November 1, 2017]

Basic Scriptures: Isaiah 14:5-19

Madam Henrietta Green of the United State of America live a life of surprises. She lived and died as a pauper (wretched person), but left behind an estate of over 95 million US Dollars, when she died in 1916. She ate cold oatmeal because she would not spend the money to cook it. She was successful and rich, but could not manage success. There are celebrities in Africa and the world today who are hooked to drugs and alcohol to be able to survive.

Years ago, in the USA also, ENRON, the so-called, “electrical giant,” collapsed suddenly. Attempt at evading huge taxes led to their downfall. They could not manage success! Breakthrough is sweet, but can be bitter also, if not properly managed! Success nearly destroyed King Nebuchadnezzar’s destiny due to pride! Success destroyed Judas due to the love of money. Many praise and worship leaders in many churches can’t flow again because of pride! Success also, has brought great ministers of God to the valley of life because they could not manage the way men adore them as men/women of God. This is why a wise minister will DE-EMPHASIS HIMSELF/HERSELF before he/she ministers!

It is difficult and lonely to stay at the top, but by the grace of God, you will get there and shine! Many believers have stopped serving God or working in their local churches or stopped fasting/prayers because a breakthrough came. Did Abraham not control ISAAC – his breakthrough /testimony? In Gen 22: 7-8, when Isaac asked him “………….Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” , he controlled him and told him, “God will provide Himself a lamb……”

Yet Abraham knew that, THAT LAMB COULD BE ISAAC! Wow! Ask God for the grace to control your ‘Isaac’ (your success). Satan envies you because he could not manage success – Isaiah 14:12-13 (today’s scripture). Resist the praise of men/pride! Resist women! Resist men! Resist lust! Resist prayerlessness/pleasure! Resist excessive sleep/food! Resist lowering the standard of the Word of God and your success will surprise the sky.

Receive this Prayer: Breakthrough will not break you! Amen! Watch and pray! CANCEL DISGRACE THIS NEW MONTH!

GET AND GIVE OUT THIS ODM Booklet as a SPECIAL GIFT item for weddings, anniversaries, dedications, birthdays etc to bless a soul! NEVER MISS AN EDITION! When Life ZIGZAGS, ODM creates SANITY!

Prayer Points: Take your best song of worship to God.

1. In your own words, pray about today’s word as led.

2. Ask God for the grace never to fall into evil from success. Pray that breakthroughs will not break your destiny.

3. Whether the devil likes it or not, I must succeed and possess my possessions. I must remain at the top! PRAY ABOUT THIS NEW MONTH, LOOSE GREAT GRACE!

4. As 2017 ends and beyond, O Lord, by your grace, no level of success/breakthrough will be an obstacle to my life’s journey. Surrender your success and your ‘Isaac’ to Him Now.
