Egyptian fighter jets carried out strikes on Friday directed at camps in Libya which Cairo says have been training militants who killed dozens of Christians earlier in the day.

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said he had ordered strikes against what he called terrorist camps, declaring in a televised address that states that sponsored terrorism would be punished.

Egyptian military sources said six strikes took place near Derna in eastern Libya at around sundown, hours after masked gunmen attacked a group of Coptic Christians traveling to a monastery in southern Egypt, killing 29 and wounding 24.

The Egyptian military said the operation was ongoing and had been undertaken once it had been ascertained that the camps had produced the gunmen behind the attack on the Coptic Christians in Minya, southern Egypt, on Friday morning.

“The terrorist incident that took place today will not pass unnoticed,” Sisi said. “We are currently targeting the camps where the terrorists are trained.”

He said Egypt would not hesitate to carry out further strikes against camps that trained people to carry out operations against Egypt, whether those camps were inside or outside the country.

Egyptian military footage of pilots being briefed and war planes taking off was shown on state television.

East Libyan forces said they participated in the air strikes, which had targeted forces linked to al-Qaeda at a number of sites, and would be followed by a ground operation.

A resident in Derna heard four powerful explosions, and told Reuters that the strikes had targeted camps used by fighters belonging to the Majlis al-Shura militant group.

Majlis al-Shura spokesman Mohamed al-Mansouri said in a video posted online that the Egyptian air strikes did not hit any of the group’s camps, but instead hit civilian areas.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack on the Christians, which followed a series of church bombings claimed by Islamic State in a campaign of violence against the Copts.

Islamic State supporters reposted videos from earlier this year urging violence against the Copts in Egypt.

At a nearby village, thousands later attended a funeral service that turned into an angry protest against the authorities’ failure to protect Christians.

“We will avenge them or die like them,” mourners said, while marching with a giant wooden cross.

GUNFIRE AND BLOOD

Eyewitnesses said masked men opened fire after stopping the Christians, who were in a bus and other vehicles on a desert road. Local TV channels showed a bus apparently raked by gunfire and smeared with blood.

Clothes and shoes could be seen lying in and around the bus, while the bodies of some of the victims lay in the sand nearby, covered with black sheets.

Eyewitnesses said three vehicles were attacked. First to be hit was a vehicle taking children to the monastery as part of a church-organized trip, and another vehicle taking families there.

The gunmen boarded the vehicles and shot all the men and took all the women’s gold jewelry. They then shot women and children in the legs.

When one of the gunmen’s vehicles got a flat tire they stopped a truck carrying Christian workers, shot them, and took the truck.

One of the gunmen recorded the attack on the Copts with a video camera, eyewitnesses said.

The attack took place on a road leading to the monastery of Saint Samuel the Confessor in Minya province, which is home to a sizeable Christian minority.

Security forces launched a hunt for the attackers, setting up dozens of checkpoints and patrols on the desert road.

Police armed with assault rifles formed a security perimeter around the attack site while officials from the public prosecutor’s office gathered evidence. Heavily armed special forces arrived later wearing face masks and body armor.

The injured were taken to local hospitals and some were being transported to Cairo. The Health Ministry said that among those injured were two children aged two.

U.S. President Donald Trump, who has made a point of improving relations with Cairo, said his country stood with Sisi and the Egyptian people.

“This merciless slaughter of Christians in Egypt tears at our hearts and grieves our souls,” Trump said.

The Grand Imam of al-Azhar, Egypt’s 1,000-year-old center of Islamic learning, said the attack was intended to destabilize the country.

“I call on Egyptians to unite in the face of this brutal terrorism,” Ahmed al-Tayeb said. The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Shawki Allam, condemned the perpetrators as traitors.

The head of the Coptic Christian church, Pope Tawadros, who spoke with Sisi after the attack, said it was “not directed at the Copts, but at Egypt and the heart of the Egyptians”.

Pope Francis, who visited Cairo a month ago, described the attack as a “senseless act of hatred”.

ONGOING PERSECUTION

Coptic Christians, whose church dates back nearly 2,000 years, make up about 10 percent of Egypt’s population of 92 million.

They say they have long suffered from persecution, but in recent months the frequency of deadly attacks against them has increased. About 70 have been killed since December in bombings claimed by Islamic State at churches in the cities of Cairo, Alexandria and Tanta.

An Islamic State campaign of murders in North Sinai prompted hundreds of Christians to flee in February and March.

Copts fear they will face the same fate as brethren in Iraq and Syria, where Christian communities have been decimated by wars and Islamic State persecution.

Egypt’s Copts are vocal supporters of Sisi, who has vowed to crush Islamist extremism and protect Christians. He declared a three-month state of emergency in the aftermath of the church bombings in April.

But many Christians feel the state either does not take their plight seriously enough or cannot protect them against determined fanatics.

The government is fighting insurgents affiliated with Islamic State who have killed hundreds of police and soldiers in the Sinai Peninsula, while also carrying out attacks elsewhere in the country.

LGBT Bullies Put Me on ‘Hate List’ — Charisma News

[ad_1]

(lillen/Pixabay/Public Domain)

Join us on our podcast each weekday for an interesting story, well told, from Charisma News. Listen at charismapodcastnetwork.com.

U.S. conservatives are being labelled as “hateful” and “bigoted” simply for opposing the liberal agenda, a commentator has said.

Hannah Scherlacher spoke out after she was placed on an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual) hate list by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

She said she was put on the list following a radio interview she did with the Family Research Council.

‘Bullying Tactic’

Scherlacher, who works for conservative free speech group Campus Reform, said she was labelled an LGBT-hater despite the topic not being discussed.

“The segment was about socialism, but because FRC holds traditional family values, I was labeled an LGBT-hater just for being a guest on the show.”

She described the list as a “bullying tactic employed by the left to silence conservative ideas.”

‘Mob Rule’

Scherlacher said such a list “not only stifles free speech and expression, it empowers and emboldens vicious groups and individuals to violently attack people.

“Americans are afraid to voice any form of dissent from the social or economic progressive agenda for fear of losing their academic standings, their jobs, or being labeled hateful and bigoted.”

Our Daily Manna October 12, 2017: ODM devotional – Why Secret Service?

Our Daily Manna October 12, 2017: ODM devotional – Why Secret Service?

Topic: Why Secret Service? [Thursday, October 12, 2017]

Basic Scripture: John 3: 1-13

Welcome to today’s devotional encounter with the God that fetches water with a basket to disgrace the bucket! Years ago, I was led to do a write-up on, “THE SECRET PLACE and the SECRET SERVICE lifestyle.” Catch this story:

“A young man was coming out of church one day and the preacher was standing at the door as he always did to shake hands. He grabbed the young man by the hand and pulled him aside. The pastor said to him, “You need to join the army of the Lord.” The young man replied, “I’m already in the army of the Lord, pastor.” So the pastor questioned, “Then how come I don’t see you except at Christmas and Easter?” The man whispered back, “I’m in secret service.”

Oh! I just remember a man whose name means, “VICTORY OVER THE PEOPLE” OR “CONQUEROR OF THE PEOPLE, “ but he feared people more than he feared  his God and could not openly defend his faith! He came to meet Jesus AT NIGHT out of the fear of man! Though he later became a bold disciple, it took him many years after he lived a life that depicted the opposite of the meaning of his name! He is Mr. NICODEMUS! But do you know that, the life of NICODEMUS and the story of the SECRET SERVICE young man above is the true picture and description of the lifestyle of many believers in the end time army of Jehovah?

There are soldiers of security personnel in every country of the world that are not publicly acknowledged. Nigeria for example, SSS (State Security Service), while the USA have the CIA (Central Investigation Agency). Israel has the dreaded MOSSAD Secret Service!  The UK has the MI6 (Military Intelligence, Section 6)! Germany has the Military Counter-Intelligence Service (MAD): “Militarischer Abschirmdienst, military intelligence.” Wow! They are always in mufti and you can hardly recognize them in any public function.

Sadly, many believers are secretive about their faith because of their double lifestyle! They are in ‘secret service’ in their offices or neighborhood just like Nicodemus who was a secret disciple. On a lighter note, maybe he was in the Jewish MOSSAD! Determine to live a live that will give you boldness wherever you are.

Someone said, “If you were to be arrested and convicted for been a Christian, will there be enough evidence to convict you at the court of law?” Let your life be a light upon a hill and never forget that, If we take care of our character, our reputation will take care of itself! Pray now!

Prayer Points: Take your best worship song to God.

1. Repent from living any kind of double life any.

2. Pray about any habit/lifestyle that provoke or can provoke public shame in your life and ministry.

3. Dedicate your life to God again. Decree that you will be a shining light!

Twitter Bans Anti-Planned Parenthood Campaign Ad

Twitter Bans Anti-Planned Parenthood Campaign Ad

Twitter has reportedly pulled a campaign ad off its platform that spoke about Planned Parenthood negatively.

The Federalist reports that the piece of objectionable content was a campaign ad video for Republican Marsha Blackburn, who is running to replace Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker.

In the video, Blackburn states, “I fought Planned Parenthood and we stopped the sale of baby body parts. Thank God.”

A representative from Twitter reportedly told Blackburn’s campaign that the statement was “deemed an inflammatory statement that is likely to evoke a strong negative reaction.”

Writing for The Federalist, David Harsanyi points out what is so concerning about Twitter’s censorship of this ad: there seems to be a double standard since pro-Planned Parenthood statements have not been censored.

Harsanyi also notes, however, that Twitter’s banning of Blackburn’s campaign ad will likely help her campaign in the end by drawing more attention to it.

You can watch the ad here and decide for yourself what you think about Blackburn’s statement regarding Planned Parenthood.

Pastor Jimmy Hinton Resigns From Church Protect, Organization That Fights Sexual Abuse in Churches

[ad_1]

(Photo: Facebook)Pastor Jimmy Hinton of Somerset Church of Christ in Pennsylvania.

Pastor Jimmy Hinton of Somerset Church of Christ in Pennsylvania announced Wednesday that he has officially resigned from Church Protect, an organization he founded with veteran clinical therapist Jon Uhler to help churches prevent and report sexual abuse.

“It is with sadness that I announce my resignation with Church Protect. There were some recent events that occurred which I personally felt were not at the heart of the mission of Church Protect and my conscience would not allow me to remain,” Hinton said in a statement on his Facebook page.

According to Church Protect, the organization was launched after Hinton found out that his father, a former minister, is a pedophile.

“God allowed Jimmy’s path to intersect with Jon Uhler and a partnership was born. Jon has over 20 years of counseling experience working as a clinical therapist, has worked extensively with survivors of child sex abuse, and has over 10 years of experience working with sex offenders who are in prison,” the organization said.

Hinton traveled across the country, speaking at churches and other organizations where he trained and equipped church leaders and professionals on detecting and preventing sexual abuse.

Hinton did not get into the specifics of why he resigned but said he and his wife made the decision together.

“I don’t want this to be a time for people to comment, point fingers, name names, or cause any more of the volleying of insults that led to this decision. We are called, in the name of Christ, to care for others, and this is the highest calling that our nation and the rest of the world needs right now. Please use this as a time to breathe, listen, and, most importantly, to love our neighbors who are hurting,” he said. “My love, heart, and calling is to bless others who have survived unspeakable trauma and this fire inside my heart cannot be contained to any four walls. I will continue to bless survivors I come into contact with and will always do my best to respond with kindness and mercy.”

According to Church Protect, more than 90 percent of pedophile say they are religious, which make churches attractive to sexual offenders.

“Pedophilia is at epidemic proportions in the church and, sadly, there are few resources for church leaders to combat this plague. With 42 million survivors of child sex abuse in the United States, it is nearly impossible to find a church that doesn’t have victims of abuse. Sadly, most abuse remains undetected. Worse yet, most alleged cases are not reported by church leaders to the authorities and the majority of allegations are dismissed by leaders who don’t know how to detect abuse,” the organization declares.

Reacting to Hinton’s resignation on Wednesday, Uhler, who is president of Church Protect, posted a copy of the Somerset preacher’s resignation letter.

“My other commitments have become such that I am no longer able to adequately fulfill my requirements of the Board, and would like to afford you opportunity to make room for someone with the proper skills and talents to devote to the job,” Hinton said.

Uhler said he was “grateful” for the work Hinton did with the organization.

“I have appreciated the opportunity to have ministered with Jimmy Hinton. We worked tirelessly together (he and I both volunteered 100% of our time to the ministry of Church Protect), and we are grateful to have been able to help people understand both the nature of those who specifically target churches to prey upon children, and the impact that has upon survivors,” he said. “Prayers are with him, as he continues to seek to minister to those who need to know about the Lord’s love and care.”

Home Breakers! (2) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Home Breakers! (2) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Home Breakers! (2)

Dear Reader,

You are welcome to another exciting time in God’s presence. Last week, I started a series on Home Breakers and I taught on anger and bitterness as some of the things that can break homes. This week I shall be discussing “Impatience” as one of the home breakers.

Impatience is the inability to deal calmly with a situation or wait for something. It can also mean a state of being in an unusual haste. Today, many families have been ruined because of impatience on the part of either the husband or the wife. Isaiah 28:16 says: …He that believeth shall not make haste.  Haste makes waste!

A clear example of what impatience can cause was seen in the life of Abraham in Genesis 16:1-6. Abraham, the father of faith, came to a point in life where he exhibited impatience. God had appeared to him several times, assuring him that he would have a son by his darling wife, Sarah. Having waited for what appeared to be too long a time, he readily gave in to Sarah’s suggestion to go into her maid and raise an heir through her.

One would have thought that as great as Abraham was, he would be immune to impatience, but it was so natural for him to give in to it. He must have been complaining and tired of waiting, long before Sarah made that suggestion, such that the moment an opening came he quickly grabbed it. What an irony that the child born by Abraham out of impatience became an enemy of the child of faith! Ishmael and Isaac could not live together.

Many have killed the joy of their would-be miracle because of their impatience. God’s ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts than ours. Even when He appears to be delaying, you must never lose hope, because He makes all things beautiful in His time (2 Peter 3:9). Don’t let the enemy cheat you out of your blessings. God is never slow or late. He is always on time with whatever He promises. God’s time is the right time!

The cure for impatience is patience backed up by faith in the Word of God. James 1:4 says: …But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.  Perfection will only come, when your patience is in place. Your patience must be backed by a strong faith in God and His Word. For instance, if you are experiencing turbulence in your home, you must discover what God’s Word says is the solution and then step out in obedience. It may not look like the solution, but God is a marriage expert; He instituted the union and knows how best to make it work.

When you are filled with the Word concerning your home, it will not run short of miracles. To keep enjoying God’s blessings for your family, you must keep doing whatever He tells you to do. Not just doing it, but doing it fully, going to the extremes in your obedience. God has not changed, and He will not compromise His standard. God’s Word in Hebrews 10:36 says: For ye have need of patience, that after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Patience is a must! Instead of looking at the problem, challenge or situation, look into God’s Word, confess it to yourself and remind Him of it in prayers.

In case you are given to impatience, the first step to take is to confess Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. This is what being born-again is all about.  If you would like to accept Jesus Christ into your life, please say this prayer “Dear Lord Jesus, I come to You today acknowledging that I am a sinner who needs Your forgiveness. I believe You died for me and rose again on the third day. Forgive me my sins, wash me with Your Blood and write my name in the Lamb’s Book of life. Thank You Lord for saving me.”

Congratulations, you are now born-again! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

With this, you are guaranteed all-round rest and peace in Jesus’ Name! Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through [email protected], 07026385437 OR 08141320204.

Researchers Develop Compound To Eradicate Virus

[ad_1]

Reuters/Yorgos Karahalis

A drug user gives a blood sample for an HIV test inside a clinic in Athens November 25, 2013.

Considering the many threats that the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) causes to people’s health, researchers are hard at work in discovering a cure. Given that a suppressor has already been found, the next goal seems to be completely eradicating the virus in order to restore victims to full functionality and health.

Recent reports have revealed that a team of researchers from Kumamoto University in Japan may have just achieved a breakthrough.

According to the study, the compound being used is called L-HIPPO, which captures the HIV-1 protein. In doing so, the compound is able to relocate the virus from the cytoplasm to the plasma membrane.

Termed as the “lock-in and apoptosis” method to eradicating HIV, the use of L-HIPPO lets the virus die a natural death, which is a process known as apoptosis. Although side effects of the compound are yet to be mentioned, the researchers emphasized that this might be a promising step toward making a cure for the deadly syndrome.

“Unfortunately, this approach is not immediately available for people infected with HIV,” said Associate Professor Mikako Fujita of Kumamoto University, one of the leaders of the study, as reported by Medical Express. “First, we have to improve upon the drugs that activate the virus and combine them with L-HIPPO to efficiently target the viral reservoir. This would be a big step towards a complete recovery from HIV. We believe that our research will help to completely eradicate AIDS.”

Researchers also mentioned that the L-HIPPO compound might be available for oral medication. Though it is still undergoing trials and further investigations, this study has been lauded by the medical community.

Considering that research relies heavily on budgets, those who would like to further the cause can find ways to help by looking for fundraiser and charity events. Regardless, the researchers remain hopeful that this is a method that will succeed.

Council favours stopping Christian pro-life activists

[ad_1]

A range of measures to deter activists will now be considered after Ealing councillors voted unanimously on Tuesday night to support a motion calling for action to be taken.

Councillor Binda Rai said she was “thrilled” by the outcome, adding: “This is really a stand for women, and for women’s rights to access healthcare that is legally available to them.”

Google Maps

Pro-choice supporters claimed that vigils staged outside the Marie Stopes Clinic on Mattock Lane were causing intimidation and harassment for patients and local residents.

Richard Bentley, managing director at Marie Stopes UK, said: “This ground-breaking move by Ealing Council sets a national precedent for ending the harassment of women using legal healthcare services.

“We hope that other local authorities will follow this example and act to increase protection for women in their area.”

GCN

The Good Counsel Network told Premier its members have been holding vigils outside for more than 23 years and their work is entirely peaceful.

On Monday, Clare McCullough from the Catholic group said: “We’ve been holding daily vigils there for the last four years. There have never been any incidents there. There have never been any arrests of charges made there against anybody.”

One option to be considered by Ealing Borough Council will be introducing a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). Previously used to tackle begging and street drinking, it which would force pro-life activists to move.

A public consultation into any proposed action will be held at a later.

Winning Wisdom: He Doesn’t Diminish

Topic: He Doesn’t Diminish [Thursday, 12th October, 2017]

If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. 2 Timothy 2:13

Ever been at a place where a person you look up to spiritually slips in a seemingly small issue. Or you may know someone who has been at that place. It is really devastating. It’s so bad for some people that they go as far as quitting Christianity and moving on. It’s like a huge betrayal from someone you so much trusted to “sin”. Two questions arise. Firstly, why do we get so devastated, and sometimes go as far as stop been a believing in Christ? Secondly, does it mean God is not God and was not able to change the sinful nature of this person?

Firstly, the reason we get so devastated is because we focus so much on this person and make them the reason for our faith. But as scripture point over and again, faith is only through Christ, and there is no faith outside of Him. (Acts 3:16, Romans 10:17). When our faith is based on man, and not on Christ,  it is so easily wavered that we are tossed to and fro by these turbulences. That is why in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5, Paul noted that he made sure that the people’s faith were not based on man, but on God. And also we are admonished in Hebrews 12:2 to look up to Jesus, the “author and finisher of our faith.”

Secondly, that a man slips and falls does not make God any less God. That a man called of God to preach the gospel commits gross injustice against his fellow man does not mean God does not have the power to change a man. Now, it is trite and established that God’s actions does not conform to man’s actions, neither does He repent of a decision He’s made because a man failed. Scriptures say: “and also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.” (1 Samuel 15:29). And don’t forget, He is all knowing, and He knew that man would fail. It’s all a pointer to the truth that the only one you should look up to is God. And like our anchor scripture says, if we believe or not, He will not deny Himself. He will not be any less God. So look up to Jesus today, and base your faith solely on Him, for unlike man, He never fails nor disappoints.

Keep winning daily.

Prayer:

Dear Father, thank You for access to Your truth. Help me to rest my faith on You and not on any man, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Ireland’s Religious Revolution: New Churches Thrive Amid Country’s Increased Secularization

Christians attending an Evangelical Alliance conference. Increased diversity, and the erosion of near-monopolies of religion by institutional denominations, is good news for forms of religion that lay a large stress on personal choice and decision.

It’s 5.30pm on a Sunday in central Dublin. Just off O’Connell Street, tourists in T-shirts tramp past yet another of Dublin’s fine old churches without giving it a second glance. A typical scene that seems to embody the post-Christian secularity of our capital city.

Then you step inside that old church building, and your perceptions are transformed. Every one of the dark wooden pews is crammed to capacity. The balcony is overflowing. On one side of the ornate pulpit a 50-voice choir – images being projected onto a huge screen at the front – is singing in beautiful harmonies.

Over 700 worshippers, all of them adults, are listening in rapt attention. Downstairs over 200 children are engrossed in Sunday school classes. It’s hard to remember that, just yards away, open-top buses are rumbling past.

You have stumbled into one of the many manifestations of a religious revolution of which tourists, and most Irish people, are completely unaware even though it is taking place right under our noses.

This congregation is just one of dozens of Romanian Evangelical and Pentecostal churches that meet across Ireland. Some are small, but others are fast outgrowing any venue that they can rent. Recently another Romanian church, to the west of the city, was granted planning permission to construct a building to seat over 1,000 worshippers each week.

And it’s not just Romanians that are meeting in this way. The Redeemed Christian Church of God, a denomination founded in Nigeria, has over 100 congregations in the Irish Republic.

You can add to that the many Filipino churches, Indian churches, Brazilian churches, Russian-speaking churches, Korean churches, Chinese churches and hundreds of other congregations that cater predominantly to the “new Irish”.
