THE General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has frowned at ministers of the gospel growing beards in the name of new fashion, just as he declared that as tough as things are in the nation today, “we are not owing anybody any salary.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye said “I don’t want to see any of my pastors looking like fellows from the training camps of Al-Qaeda,” he said, stating that any elderly person who cannot showPastor Adeboye of RCCG frowns at pastors growing beards the noble journey for the youths in terms of dressing is not worthy to be described as an elder.

According to him, the youths are young and they don’t know where they are going, but if you watch closely you will find that they don’t know where they are going, noting “they often look up to their fathers for direction but if a father himself does not know what he is doing then there something wrong. “The youths don’t respect an elder that looks like them. You are supposed to be their guiding light after they have fooled around,” Adeboye stated, saying pastors should be clean shaven at all times and must not in any way grow beards that will portray them as persons of different persuasion. He also decreed that anybody who brings tribalism into the church should either leave the church immediately or will soon die like Annanais and Sapphira.

In the same vein, he said no pastor has the church’s blessing to impose Yoruba songs as part of the church sevice in other parts of the country, emphasising the need for pastors in other parts of the country to encourage the locals to sing and rejoice in their local dialects. The 74-year General Overseer also enjoined all pastors in the church to regularly do a medical check up to avoid unnecessary and sudden deaths that can be avoided if the proper thing is done. Worried about various reports of arranged marriages among brethren some of which have been linked to various disruptions in several relationships, Pastor Adeboye also decreed that no RCCG pastor should be seen to be involved in arranging marriages among brethren in the church.

We recall that Pastor Adeboye has earlier counselled youths of the church on marriage, saying “don’t ever marry outside the church and you have no reason to marry outside RCCG. The reason is that if you are both from the same church even when trouble comes it is easier for the pastors to handle it! “Don’t marry a girl simply because she can sing! In the choir there are some people that can sing but they are fallen angels! Marry a prayer warrior! If a girl cannot pray for one hour, don’t marry her. “Don’t marry a girl who is lazy! Don’t marry a girl who cannot cook, she needs to know how to do chores and cook because you cannot afford to be eating out all the time. “Don’t marry a girl who is worldly! If you do, you have carried what you’ll worship for the rest of your life!” he advised. RCCG 64th annual convention: Pastor’s Promotion

RCCG also described as one the fastest growing churches in the world with presence in 190 countries of the world, on Sunday, announced the promotion of some of its senior ministers to cope with the challenges of growth.

The newly promoted officers include five new special assistants to the General Overseer and seven new Assistant General Overseers. A breakdown of the officers include the Regional Evangelist, Pastor Johnson T. Kalejaiye now Special Assistant to the G.O. for Evangelism; head of Security & PICP of Lagos Province 20, Pastor Okey Mofunanya is now SATGO in charge of Security while the Chairman of Mission Board and PICP Lagos a Province 23, Pastor Brown Oyitso is now SATGO in charge of Missions.

Others are the National Prayer Coordinator, Pastor Peter Olawale who is now promoted as SATGO in charge of prayer and Pastor in charge of Region 5, and Youth Affairs, Pastor Belemina Obunge who is now SATGO for Special Duties.

The General Overseer also announced in what he described as good news for the church, seven new Assistant General Overseers. They include Pastor Ezekiel Adedosu Odeyemi, Pastor E.O. Daramola, Pastor Ayo Adeloye, Pastor Johnson Funso Odesola. Others included Pastor Peter Amenkinan, Pastor Olu Obanure, and Pastor Joseph Obayemi.

A Pastor in Turkey Chooses to Drop Charges and Forgive Muslim Men Who Damaged Church
A pastor in Turkey made headlines when he chose to forgive a group of Muslims who damaged his church.
According to ChristianToday.com, Pastor Matta (whose full name is being withheld for security reasons) decided not to press charges against the Muslim men who broke windows and damaged a security camera at the pastor’s rented church building. The extremists were reportedly angered that the church was leading Muslims away from the faith to Christianity.
“During the trial, the judge asked me whether I am pressing charges or not,” Pastor Matta said. “I replied, ‘I’m not pressing charges because the Lord asked me to forgive.'”
The judge was incredulous that Pastor Matta did not want to press charges, but Matta remained firm in his decision:
“No, I don’t want to; the only thing I want is it to be known that we are not bad people,” he said.
Many news sources reported on Pastor Matta’s surprising decision to forgive. The story ended up drawing an overwhelmingly positive response from the community.
“We praise God because after this attack good reports for us were published in many papers, and some officials came to visit us,” Pastor Matta said. He adds that many were shown that followers of Christ believe in loving their enemies.

English churches given £2.4million to protect themselves from attack

CHURCHES in England and Wales have been given £2.4million from the Home Office to protect themselves, just hours after the Normandy terror attack.
Father Jacques Hamel, 84, had his throat slashed during an hour-long siege as two knifemen shouting “Allah Akbar” burst into a parish church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, near the northern city of Rouen during morning mass.

Several worshippers were taken hostage and one has been left in a serious condition as it emerged the Catholic church was named on an ISIS hit list last year.

The pro-Islamic State, United Cyber Caliphate, released a new kill list focusing on churches and synagogues earlier this month but it’s unclear if churches in the UK have been made a target.

The Home Office today launched a £2.4m fund to protect churches from hate crimes and attacks with money for extra security measures and equipment.

A spokesman for the Home Office insisted the fund was not launched in response to the Normandy attack but had been planned after religious officials raised concerns over threats to places of worship.

Churches at risk of hate crimes can apply for CCTV, perimeter fencing, access control gates, security doors and alarm systems.

The Church of England has welcomed the Home Office funding

Prime Minister Theresa May said today the possibility of an ISIS attack in Britain is “highly likely” with the current terror threat level to the UK from international terrorism classed as severe.The National Counter Terrorism Security Office said no security guidance has been issued to churches but if any organisation has specific concerns they can contact their local police.

The Church of England has welcomed the funding and maintained church buildings will remain open to all, despite the terror threat.

All public ministry involves being vulnerable to others, so security measures are good sense in uncertain times.”

Pope Francis Condemns Slaying of French Priest
Pope Francis condemned the murder of an elderly French priest, calling it a “barbarous killing” as the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the brutal attack at a Catholic Church in northern France.
Armed men burst into the church in the small town of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray in Normandy and slit the throat of the Rev. Jacques Hamel as he was celebrating Mass before a smattering of mostly elderly Catholics on Tuesday (July 26).
The slain priest, who was in his mid-80s, was one of several people taken hostage by the two attackers, who authorities said had claimed to be from Daesh, the Arabic term for the Islamic State group.
One of the other hostages was reportedly in critical condition late Tuesday, and both assailants were shot and killed by security forces, French officials said.
Pope Francis expressed his “pain and horror over this absurd violence with the most radical condemnation of all forms of hatred and prayers for those affected” in a statement issued by the Vatican’s spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi.
“We are particularly shocked because this horrible violence took place in a Church, where God’s love is proclaimed, with the barbarous killing of a priest and the involvement of the faithful,” Lombardi said.
The attack comes one day before Francis leaves Rome to attend World Youth Day, a Catholic youth festival in Poland.
French President Francois Hollande said ISIS was behind the attack, and Prime Minister Manuel Valls called it “a barbaric attack on a church.”
“The whole of France and all Catholics are wounded. We will stand together,” he added.
It was the latest in a string of deadly terrorist attacks in Europe in the past couple of weeks, including the Bastille Day attack in the French city of Nice and killings in several places in Germany.
The imam of the mosque in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray said he was “appalled by the death of my friend,” according to the French newspaper Le Figaro.
“He gave his life for others,” the imam, Mohammed Karabila, was quoted as saying. “We are shocked here at the mosque.”
Hamel was an auxiliary priest in the parish and was filling in for the regular parish priest, who had just left on vacation, The New York Times reported.
He was ordained in 1958 and had celebrated his golden jubilee in 2008, according to the diocesan website.
The titular parish priest, the Rev. Auguste Moanda-Phuati, told the French broadcaster RTL that Hamel had refused to retire at age 75, as the church allows, because of the shortage of Catholic clergy in France.
“He was a courageous priest at his age. He still felt strong,” said Moanda-Phuati, who, according to French press reports, is Congolese.
The Islamic State group issued a statement saying the church attack was carried out by two “soldiers” from the group, which has claimed responsibility for inspiring a number of brutal terror attacks in France and elsewhere in Europe.
The killing signaled what could be a new phase in the battle against the group since it has not previously targeted Christian sites in Europe.
The Vatican has long been on a state of high alert for threats against the pope. And Christians in the Middle East have increasingly been subject to vicious attacks by Islamic radicals.
On social media, there was an oupouring of support with the hashtag #JeSuisCatholique and #JeSuisPrete ( I am Catholic, I am priest) in several languages.
The archbishop of Rouen, Monsignor Dominique Lebrun, confirmed the priest’s death.
“I cry out to God, with all men of good will. And I invite all non-believers to unite with this cry,” he said in a statement. “The Catholic Church has no other arms besides prayer and fraternity between men.”  … Read more

Paralyzed Former Football Star Stands Unassisted for the First Time After 10 Years in a Wheelchair

A paralyzed former football star from Alabama stood up for the first time in 10 years, after long journey of physical therapy and prayer, he told ABC News today.

Timothy Alexander, who was injured in a horrific car crash and worked diligently in rehab, was able to stand Monday for a few minutes and unassisted for a few seconds, his physical therapist said.

“I have a stand up chair…normally if they take the brake off I fall straight down,” he said. “I was able to hold myself up for about 3 seconds.”

A decade ago, Alexander, 27, was his high school’s star football player, confident he could go to any college he wanted with a football scholarship.

“Before my injury I was ranked number eight in the state and I could have went anywhere,” Alexander said.

Tragedy struck in October of 2006, when Alexander got into a devastating car crash after his friend fell asleep at the wheel. He described how the car swerved off the road toward a cliff, all while he was holding a 2-year-old baby on his lap.

“I punched the window out, I threw the 2-year-old baby out the window, before we went off the cliff. The car went all the way down, I became paralyzed instantly,” Alexander said. “My friend said ‘Is everyone okay?’ and I said, ‘No, I can’t feel my legs.'”

For a while, Alexander said he was paralyzed from the neck down, but treatment and therapy helped him gain use of his upper body again. “I had traumatic brain injury. I couldn’t read, couldn’t write, couldn’t do anything. When I tried to talk to my Mom they put a marker in my mouth and tried to make me move my head,” he said.

“When I first had my car wreck I had a lot of doctors and therapists that did give me a chance, but after my insurance ran out they said there was nothing they could do,” Alexander said. “The first year I was very suicidal.”

Alexander said he spoke to his bishop and his family, and “embraced a positive attitude in 2008.”

“I just started working out and praying. I had a dream of me playing football at UAB [University of Alabama at Birmingham],” Alexander said, and he went to the UAB gym for physical therapy.

“When I went to training room, the sports trainer said ‘hey, are you here to do football?’ and I said ‘Are you talking to me?'”

Alexander told ABC News he then became the first paraplegic to ever get a scholarship in Division I football. He attended every practice and game and served as a motivator for his teammates.

Despite being on a Division I football team, Alexander still could not stand up on his own. On Monday, however, that changed.

Natalie Shannon, Timothy’s physical therapist and athletic trainer, told ABC News today that she thrilled when she saw him stand up, completely unassisted, for the first time. Shannon added that everyone has different injuries and responds differently to therapy, but Timothy has always been very hardworking towards his goals, training with a standing chair as often as he can to build up muscle.

Alexander says he was inspired to never give up by his older brother, who passed away in a house fire, who told him to set his sights high.

“My big hero was my big brother David,” Alexander said, “he passed away on April 14, 2006.”

“The day before he passed, he said ‘I want you to go to the NFL and make a great name for yourself, to take care of the community and the family,’ and he said, ‘I love you,’ and that was the last words he said.”

Alexander said he still hopes to realize his brother’s dream of being drafted into the NFL “not for money or fame, but to show that if you believe that all things are possible,” you can achieve your goals.

Alexander hopes to work as a motivational speaker, and inspire others with his journey to not give up hope.

Japan: Deadly Knife Attack at Facility for Disabled Kills 19

At least 19 people have been killed and 26 injured in a deadly knife attack at a facility for the disabled outside of Tokyo, Japan.

According to CNN.com, the attack is one of Japan’s deadliest mass killings since World Warr II.

The suspect in the attack, 26-year-old Satoshi Uematsu, worked at the facility for the disabled until last February. He is thought to be mentally unstable.

Uematsu reportedly broke into the facility around 2 a.m. on Tuesday and began his stabbing spree which killed nine men and 10 women.

The motivation for the attack is unknown, but Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga confirmed that it was not an act of terrorism and had no connections to ISIS or other jihadist groups.

The 26 injured individuals have been hospitalized. Thirteen are “severely” injured, ten sustained moderate injuries, and three suffered minor injuries.

Mass killings are rare in Japan and gun ownership is highly regulated. The incident has shocked the country and the small town where it took place.
