Keith Getty Calls Coronavirus an ‘Opportunity’ to ‘Reorder’ Homes for Christ

Christian families who are shut-in during the COVID-19 pandemic have a unique opportunity to reorder their homes for the good of Christ, says songwriter Keith Getty.

Getty and his wife Kristyn hosted a “Getty Family Hymn Sing” on Facebook Live Tuesday night, singing modern and traditional hymns alongside their oldest daughters. The Family Hymn Sing is held Tuesday nights around 7:15 Central.

Many families, Getty noted, are shut inside their homes during the pandemic. The Gettys live in Nashville Tenn., which along with surrounding areas is under a stay-at-home order.

He and his wife are modern hymn writers.

“In the next three months – [or] three months-plus – we have such an incredible opportunity to reorder how … our homes are and [to] share our faith with friends – a chance we’ll probably never have again,” Getty said during the Facebook Live session. “This year provides a unique space for all of us.

Getty said he was interviewed this week and was asked if he was “out of business now that churches have stopped singing.” Getty quoted Jesus’ promise in Matthew 18:20: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

“The promise is where two or three are gathered – so it’s for our homes, and for our churches,” Getty said, emphasizing the need for worship at home.

Getty was the co-writer of In Christ…

PODCAST: Whyte House Family Devotional Reading of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening #68 with Daniel Whyte III

This is Daniel Whyte III, president of Gospel Light Society International with the Whyte House Family Devotional Reading of Charles Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening podcast. This is Episode #68.

Charles Spurgeon was a prominent English Particular Baptist preacher. He was very influential among the Christians of various denominations during his age and even today, and is commonly called the “Prince of Preachers”. After some time of alternately searching for God and running from God, he had a powerful encounter which led him to give his life to Christ. Spurgeon was only 16 when he preached his first sermon and he began publishing books shortly afterward. At the time of his death, he had preached nearly 3,600 sermons and published 49 volumes of commentaries, sayings, anecdotes, illustrations and devotions. Spurgeon said, “encouraging thoughts are like honey to the heart”, and wrote this devotional in hopes that its uplifting messages for each day of the year would bring comfort and refreshment to our walk with God. He was inspired by Isaiah 50:4 which reads, “He wakeneth morning by morning. He wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned” and Psalm 63:5-6 which says, “My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips; when I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches.”

Song of Solomon 1:7 reads: “Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?”

These words express the desire of the believer after Christ, and his longing for present communion with him. Where doest thou feed thy flock? In thy house? I will go, if I may find thee there. In private prayer? Then I will pray without ceasing. In the Word? Then I will read it diligently. In thine ordinances? Then I will walk in them with all my heart. Tell me where thou feedest, for wherever thou standest as the Shepherd, there will I lie down as a sheep; for none but thyself can supply my need. I cannot be satisfied to be apart from thee. My soul hungers and thirsts for the refreshment of thy presence. “Where dost thou make thy flock to rest at noon?” for whether at dawn or at noon, my only rest must be where thou art and thy beloved flock. My soul’s rest must be a grace-given rest, and can only be found in thee. Where is the shadow of that rock? Why should I not repose beneath it? “Why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?” Thou hast companions—why should I not be one? Satan tells me I am unworthy; but I always was unworthy, and yet thou hast long loved me; and therefore my unworthiness cannot be a bar to my having fellowship with thee now. It is true I am weak in faith, and prone to fall, but my very feebleness is the reason why I should always be where thou feedest thy flock, that I may be strengthened, and preserved in safety beside the still waters. Why should I turn aside? There is no reason why I should, but there are a thousand reasons why I should not, for Jesus beckons me to come. If he withdrew himself a little, it is but to make me prize his presence more. Now that I am grieved and distressed at being away from him, he will lead me yet again to that sheltered nook where the lambs of his fold are sheltered from the burning sun.

PRAY.

Thank you for listening to the Morning and Evening podcast. If you do not know the Lord as your Savior, here is how you can be saved from Hell and walk with the Lord morning and evening until you go to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die:

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:8: “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and today I choose to turn from my sins. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. I trust Jesus Christ as my Savior and I choose to follow Him as Lord from this day forward. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you believed in your heart that Jesus Christ died on the Cross, was buried, and rose again, allow me to say, congratulations on doing the most important thing in life and that is accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour! For more information to help you grow in your newfound faith in Christ, go to Gospel Light Society.com and read “What To Do After You Enter Through the Door”. Jesus Christ said in John 10:9, “I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

If you accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior today, please email me at [email protected] and let us know. There is some free material that we want to send you. If you have a prayer request, please e-mail that to us as well, and we will pray for you until you tell us to stop.

God loves you. We love you. And may God bless you.

Congress Passes Economic Stimulus Package amid Pandemic

Congress Passes Economic Stimulus Package amid Pandemic

The White House and the U.S. Senate approved a $2 trillion stimulus package early Wednesday that includes sending checks to people affected by the coronavirus.

According to The Guardian, the rescue deal would give financial assistance to workers, businesses and the healthcare system, all of which are facing economic struggles in the wake of the pandemic.

“The Senate has reached a bipartisan agreement on a historic relief package for this pandemic,” Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell said, calling the deal as a “wartime level of investment into our nation.”

Under the plan, single Americans would receive $1,200, married couples would receive $2,400 and parents would get $500 for each child under 17.

The plan does, however, include limitations based on adjusted gross income. Individuals earning more than $99,000 will not qualify. Qualifying income levels will be based on 2019 federal tax returns if already filed, or on 2018 returns.

“This is not a moment of celebration, but one of necessity,” Minority leader Chuck Schumer said. “To all Americans I say: help is on the way.”

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin said the president would “absolutely” sign the bill if Congress approved it.

The deal also includes $500 billion in guaranteed, subsidized loans to large industries, including hospitals and airlines. Another $367 billion is earmarked for small businesses.

It could be weeks before…

Prince Charles tests positive for coronavirus: Why our greatest fear may not be what you think it is

Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, has tested positive for the new coronavirus. Photo taken at Westminster Abbey in London on Monday, March 9, 2020.

Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, has been diagnosed with coronavirus. His wife has reportedly tested negative for the virus.

An announcement stated that the prince “has been displaying mild symptoms but otherwise remains in good health and has been working from home throughout the last few days as usual.” It added, “It is not possible to ascertain from whom the Prince caught the virus owing to the high number of engagements he carried out in his public role during recent weeks.”

In other news, Hillsong NYC pastor Carl Lentz confirmed that he has tested positive for COVID-19. The virus killed playwright Terrence McNally, retired New York Times reporter Alan Finder, and Dezann Romain, age thirty-six, a school principal from Brooklyn. A teenager in Lancaster, California, may be the first minor to die from coronavirus in the US. Former Texas A&M basketball star David Edwards, age forty-eight, died from complications of the virus.

Of course, coronavirus is not the only mortality-related subject in the news. Kenny Rogers’ death reminds us that celebrities are mortal. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier fell and fractured a rib on a run, then developed pneumonia and remains in critical condition. He has tested negative for coronavirus.

The problem is, it’s human nature to think that what happens to others is less likely to happen to us. Psychologists call this “optimistic bias.” It describes people who think they’re at less risk of having a stroke or getting divorced. Smokers know that smoking is dangerous, but many think they’re less likely than other smokers to get lung cancer.

One of Satan’s most effective schemes

PODCAST: The Scripture & the Sense #454: Amos 5:8-9 with Daniel Whyte III

This is Daniel Whyte III president of Gospel Light Society International with The Scripture & the Sense Podcast #454, where I read the Word of God and give the sense of it based on an authoritative commentary source such as the Bible Knowledge Commentary or Matthew Henry Commentary. This podcast is based upon Nehemiah 8:8 where it says Ezra and the Levites “read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.” The aim of this podcast is that through the simple reading of the Word of God and the giving of the sense of it, the church would be revived and the world would be awakened.

Today we are reading Amos 5:8-9.

8 Seek him that maketh the seven stars and Orion, and turneth the shadow of death into the morning, and maketh the day dark with night: that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name:

9 That strengtheneth the spoiled against the strong, so that the spoiled shall come against the fortress.

________

That was Amos 5:8-9. Now here is the sense of it.

The Bible Knowledge Commentary reads:

In the midst of this denunciation of human perversity, Amos identified the God who controlled the workings of the physical universe and who surely, therefore, would overturn the injustice of men. He who made the constellations Pleiades and Orion—the rising of Pleiades before daybreak signaled the return of spring while the rising of Orion after sunset heralded the onset of winter), He who controls the 24-hour cycle of day and night, turning blackness into dawn and day into night, He who controls the elements of nature, gathering by evaporation the waters of the sea and draining them out over … the land—this great Sovereign of the universe is also Israel’s covenant God. The Lord (Yahweh) is His name. And He would judge their covenant faithfulness. This God whose dominion was unchallenged in heaven was also irresistible on earth. Nothing could withstand His destruction—not the mightiest stronghold or the most fortified city.

____________

Thank you for listening to the Scripture & The Sense Podcast. Remember to read the Word of God each and every day and pray without ceasing to God for wisdom to understand it and apply it to your life. Most importantly, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Please stay tuned for a complete presentation of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ so that you can get your soul saved from Hell to that wonderful place called Heaven when you die. May God bless you and keep you is my prayer.

Did an Italian Priest Really Give Up His Respirator for a Younger Patient?

Did an Italian Priest Really Give Up His Respirator for a Younger Patient?

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — An elderly Italian priest who contracted the coronavirus reportedly offered his respirator to a younger patient and died due to the illness late on Sunday (March 22).

It’s a story that’s made headlines around the world and been shared on social media as an example of living out the teachings of Jesus.

But so far, no one can confirm that the story is true.

Neither the hospital nor a colleague from the priest’s parish could confirm the news account.

The Rev. Giuseppe Berardelli, 72, was a priest at the Parish of San Giovanni Battista in northern Italy since 2006. He died this week, one of a growing number of Italians who’ve succumbed to COVID-19.

His town, Bergamo, is among the epicenters of the pandemic, which has already claimed the lives of 6,820 people in the country and infected over 69,000 people.

“He died as a priest,” an unnamed health professional who works at the retirement home of San Giuseppe in Casnigo, the small town where Berardelli died, told the local paper Araberara.

“I am deeply moved by the fact that the archpriest of Casnigo, Don Giuseppe Berardelli — for whom the parish community had bought a respirator — gave it up of his own volition to hand it to someone younger than he,” the health professional said, according to published accounts.

The custodian of the Arcipresbiterial church of San Giovanni Battista told Religion News

6 Must-Have Church Management System Tips

On average, an American church has about 75 worshippers on Sunday mornings. Whether your church has fewer or more than that, it’s no doubt a tough job to manage your place of worship.

While it’s a religious space, you do have to treat it as sort of a business sometimes. There are lots of things you can learn from business about managing operations, after all. That way, you can give your congregation the best experience possible.

Are you wondering how? To help you out, here are 10 essential tips on how to set up a church management system.

1. Have an Adept Team for Managing Finances

You want to have good faith in your congregation. But unfortunately, the temptation of greed can be too much for some people. As a result, many churches are victims of fraud and mismanagement of funds.

Even if you have someone trustworthy in the financial role, it may be too overwhelming for one person to handle. In this case, it’s a good idea to assemble a team with financial backgrounds. That way, with multiple people holding one another accountable, you can ensure the church’s funds aren’t being mismanaged.

2. Develop a Plan for Using Resources

A very real aspect of running a place of worship is it needs money to keep the lights on. Without it, your followers may not have a place to go.

In addition to a financial team, you also need several departments in your church, such as the adults, youth, communications, and facilities. All should get together to agree on an annual budget that’ll allocate funds appropriately for each department.

Once these budgets are developed, then your church leaders can either approve or suggest adjustments before approval. Not only should each department head ensure they keep on track with the budget all year long, but they should also look at the monthly financial reports to do so.

3. Don’t Forget About Human Resources

While the majority of your staff will probably be volunteers, you’ll still have at least a few employees. This means you need to comply with HR laws and regulations.

You’ll need to meet with your church leaders to have a uniform plan on hiring, as well as set some basic rules employees and volunteers must adhere to. This gives a very clear-cut reference when you need to let someone go. As part of this process, you’ll need to create an employee handbook and also job descriptions for the roles at your church.

For the volunteers, you’ll still have to create proper training and job roles for them to make sure everything at your place of worship runs smoothly. These people play a key role in your organization, after all.

4. Make Sure the Church Is Well-Protected

You may only meet at the church once a week for worship on Sundays. Or maybe you use the space for various religious activities all throughout the week.

Either way, you need to make sure it’s well-protected. While you can trust your congregation to take good care of the church, you can’t necessarily trust the rest of the community to do so.

Because of this, you need to have a robust system for protecting your place of worship. Keep track of who has the keys and when. Hold people accountable for opening the doors in the morning and locking it up at night.

You also need to think about things like fire extinguishers, security systems, and regular maintenance for things like the air conditioner, parking lot, furniture, and more. This ensures your followers can worship in a good environment.

5. Have a System in Place for Emergencies

You have a large group of worshippers who look to you for guidance in hard times. This is especially true should anything happen during church service.

Before anything unfortunate happens, you need to put emergency plans in place. If your area is prone to storms and tornadoes, then have contingency plans for them.

For example, where should you evacuate everyone? Who’s in charge of grabbing all emergency supplies? How will you ensure all your congregation is present and accounted for?

You should also have a definite plan for when service needs to be canceled for the safety of your worshippers. Have a way to communicate quickly with your congregation in the event of an emergency. The next tip on this list may just help with this.

6. Use Church Management Software

Everything’s going digital nowadays, so why not church management as well? Surely the Lord wants you to use His creations in the most effective way possible!

Thankfully, there are many choices out there, such as Icon Church Management, which is web-based church management software. You can use it to keep track of the congregation and reach out in the best way possible.

With this software, you can create directories, perform mass communication, get a good idea of attendance, and more. When you have all this at your fingertips, it’ll be so much easier to get worshippers together when it matters most.

What’s best is if you want to try before buying, it’s possible with many companies, such as the one we just pointed out. That way, you can experiment and figure out which software you like best for your church.

Make Use of These Church Management System Tips

It may be daunting to be in charge of a church at first, but with these church management system tips, you’ll be well on your way to providing an amazing experience for all worshippers. So make sure to use this article as a good starting point for managing the operations of your church. Your congregation will surely appreciate it!

Ravi Zacharias Discusses Cancer Diagnosis, Christian Response to Coronavirus

Leading Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias has opened up about his recent cancer diagnosis and offered Christians some wisdom as to how they should be responding to the coronavirus pandemic.

Faithwire: Popular Megachurch Pastor Tests Positive for Coronavirus: ‘The Symptoms Are So Real’

Earlier this month, Zacharias revealed that doctors had completed an operation to repair his spine, but noted that he was still in the most excruciating pain. Shortly afterward, a biopsy taken during the operation confirmed that Ravi had developed a rare form of malignant cancer called a “sarcoma.”

“We have been meeting with specialists to determine the next course of action,” Ravi wrote at the time. “They will wait until I am fully healed from the back surgery, and in 4-5 weeks, will begin treatment to shrink the tumor.”

FOR CBN NEWS CONTINUING COVERAGE ON COVID-19, CLICK HERE.

Speaking to the Ben Shapiro Show, the famed intellectual opened up about the terrifying ordeal. “It was a shock,” he said of the diagnosis. “I had gone in for back surgery and they discovered atypical.. it turned out to be a tumor. I’ll begin the treatment in a little while.”

Faithwire: Priest Dies of Coronavirus After Sacrificing Ventilator for Younger Stranger: ‘I Am Deeply Moved’

Zacharias noted that the greatest challenge to his recovery was the pain caused by the tumor pressing on his spine. “Frankly, I’ve never felt such pain in my life.. night pain they call it.. pressure from the tumor,” he explained. “But you know what, I’ll get through it, and I should be on the road full-time hopefully by June or July.”

“I value your prayers,” Ravi added. “I know there’s a bit of a journey ahead for me, but I know the prayers of people and God’s strength will carry me through.”

Speaking into the coronavirus situation, Zacharias said believers must “combine our faith and trust in God with wisdom” when responding to the crisis. Trust in God, he said, but heed the advice to keep yourself and others safe.

“We get so used to comfort and answers, that when we find something is out of our control, it is very daunting,” Zacharias added.

“Be sober-minded about it, don’t be cavalier about it. Make sure at all times, your life and relationship with God and your family is strong. That’s what is going to matter at the end of it all.”

Adding some thoughts on the purpose of prayer at this time, Ravi warned against Christians looking at this vital spiritual practice as something of a “slot machine” — where we “put the right coin in and get the right product out.” Instead, he said, prayer is about acknowledging God’s sovereignty and seeking his guidance at times of trouble — apt advice as COVID-19 continues to spread like wildfire across the globe.

“Prayer is about communion with God,” Ravi concluded. “It is the process with which our hearts get conditioned to receive his will and come into alignment with what it is He has for us. Prayer is a surrender to the will of God.”

Trump’s Overall Approval Rating Jumps to 49 Percent since Coronavirus Outbreak, Gallup Says

Trump’s Overall Approval Rating Jumps to 49 Percent since Coronavirus Outbreak, Gallup Says

President Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic response had led to a surge in his approval rating and to a record moment for him in the Gallup poll.

A record-tying 49 percent of Americans approve of the way Trump is handling his job, while a record-low 45 percent disapprove, according to a Gallup survey released Tuesday. Trump’s plus-four net approval rating also is a record.

The uptick in his job approval rating was driven by Americans’ attitude on the coronavirus response. By a margin of 60-38 percent, Americans say they approve of Trump’s handling of the response to COVID-19. This includes 94 percent of Republicans, 60 percent of independents and 27 percent of Democrats who approve of his handling of the response.

“On March 16, Trump acknowledged the seriousness of the situation by urging people to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people and to have workers and students stay home if possible,” Gallup’s Jeffrey Jones wrote in an online analysis. “The administration has had daily press conferences since then to update the nation on what the federal government is doing to address the situation.”

For Trump’s overall job approval rating, 92 percent of Republicans approve, as do 43 percent of independents and 13 percent of Democrats. Trump’s 49 percent approval rating equals his approval in January and February around the time of the…

Civilian Christians Killed amid Military Fighting in Western Burma

Civilian Christians Killed amid Military Fighting in Western Burma

NAYPYIDAW, Burma, March 25, 2020 (Morning Star News) – Burmese army jet fighters killed 21 civilians from the predominantly Christian, ethnic Chin group in airstrikes this month in western Burma (Myanmar), sources said.

In Paletwa Township, Chin state, the army on March 14 struck Meiksa Wa villages 2 and 3, killing 12 civilians, area residents reportedly said. Eight more died in attacks the next day on Wetma village, and one was killed in Pyaing Tain village, they said.

The Burmese military’s Members of Parliament said the predominantly Christian villages were targeted because army personnel believed Arakan Army (AA) rebels from Rakhine state, on Chin state’s southern border, had taken cover in them, according to Mai Thin Yu Mon, program director of Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO).

Another 28 civilians were wounded in the attacks, he said, adding that more than 1,500 villagers fled the areas as some of their houses were burned down.

Chin Christian leaders and local residents said that, based on past persecution they have endured at the hands of the military, they suspect army personnel fired indiscriminately at the villages in part because the inhabitants were Christian. Under the previous military regime, troops came to their villages and systematically persecuted the Christians in order to impose Buddhism. Prior CHRO reports have outlined how Burmese troops destroyed church…
