What It's Like to Be Infected with COVID-19: Doctor Charts Daily Course of the Disease on Social Media

An emergency room physician who got infected with COVID-19 is giving his social media followers a day-by-day blog of how the virus’s symptoms are affecting him.

Dr. Dale Tung Chen found out he was infected with the coronavirus. He caught the disease from a colleague while treating patients in the emergency room of the Hospital Universitario La Paz in Madrid, Spain, according to the New York Post.

While living in quarantine in his home since Sunday, Chen, 35, is tweeting out ultrasounds of his lungs along with commentary about the symptoms he’s experiencing.

Chen told NBC News he wanted his experience to be educational, but he wasn’t expecting the warm response he’s received.

“It meant the whole world to me to receive support from people all around the world,” he said.

Chen’s symptoms have been relatively mild. Experts say the virus affects everyone differently.

Day 5 after #COVID diagnosis. Less cough & tired, still no dyspnea/chest pain. #POCUS update: Effusion resolved, as subpleural consolidations spread bilaterally on both posterior lower lobes. Started on HCQ yesterday. #mycoviddiary @TomasVillen @acam_acam pic.twitter.com/fjtq2SEM1d

— Yale Tung Chen (@yaletung) March 13, 2020

Chen told CNN on Friday he had developed pneumonia because of the virus, but “he’s doing just fine.”

You can follow Chen’s progress here.

Chen is not the only one sharing with others their fight against the coronavirus.  A man in Wuhan, China was sick for three weeks with the disease.

Tiger Ye, 21, told The Guardian he was diagnosed on Jan. 17 and was cleared by Feb. 7.  He told the newspaper the illness was at its worst from Jan. 21 to Jan. 26.

People who have been infected with COVID-19 are recovering. As of Friday, the total number of known cases worldwide stood at more than 137,000 – but that’s just for people that have been tested and confirmed. There have been more than 5,000 deaths due to the disease.

However, the total number of people who have recovered from the virus currently stands at almost 70,000.

John Hopkins University has created a website where the medical data by country is added and is regularly updated.

For those who do contract COVID-19, roughly 20 percent will experience severe-to-critical symptoms, but the vast majority do not. That’s one reason why it’s unclear how many people have actually contracted the disease since some people may not even have had enough symptoms to think they needed to get tested.

PODCAST: How the Lord is Leading Me to Pray During the Coronavirus Pandemic-Plague by Daniel Whyte III (Praying Through the Bible #396)

Here’s how Daniel Whyte III will be praying during the coronavirus pandemic-plague:

1. Praying and asking God to be thorough with His church. 1 Peter 4:17 says, “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?” A. J. Gordon prayed, “Be thorough with me, Jesus; be thorough with me.”

2. Praying for Christians: 2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

3. Praying that Christians would begin witnessing to the lost: Luke 10:2 says, “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.”

4. Praying for the salvation of the lost: John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Romans 10:9-13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

George Atkins wrote:

Brethren we have met to worship
And adore the Lord our God
Will you pray with all your power
While we try to preach the Word
All is vain unless the Spirit
Of the Holy One comes down
Brethren pray and holy manna
Will be showered all around

Brethren see poor sinners ’round you
Slumbering on the brink of woe
Death is coming hell is moving
Can you bear to let them go
See our fathers and our mothers
And our children sinking down
Brethren pray and holy manna
Will be showered all around

Sisters will you join to help us
Moses’ sister aided him
Will you help the trembling mourners
Who are struggling hard with sin
Tell them all about the Saviour
Tell them that He will be found
Sisters pray and holy manna
Will be showered all around

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Now, if you are with us today, and you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour, your first prayer needs to be what we call the Sinner’s Prayer. First, please understand that you are a sinner, just as I am, and that you have broken God’s laws. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now this is bad news, but here’s the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will.

Romans 10:9 & 13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved… For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you believe that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead, and you want to trust Him for your Salvation today, please pray with me this simple prayer: Holy Father God, I realize that I am a sinner and that I have done some bad things in my life. For Jesus Christ sake, please forgive me of my sins. I now believe with all of my heart that Jesus Christ died for me, was buried, and rose again. Lord Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul and change my life today. Amen.

If you just trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour, and you prayed that prayer and meant it from your heart, I declare to you that based upon the Word of God, you are now saved from Hell and you are on your way to Heaven. Welcome to the family of God! Congratulations on trusting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. You have done the most important thing in life. Minors Can Now Change Their Sex on Birth Certificates in New York

Minors Can Now Change Their Sex on Birth Certificates in New York

Transgender and nonbinary minors in New York are now allowed to change their sex on their birth certificates.

According to the office of the New York Attorney General Letitia James, the new policy will allow individuals under the age of 16 to apply for their sex to be changed on their birth certificates without the need for a medical affidavit.

Instead, minors age 16 or younger can make the request with their parent(s)’s or legal guardian(s)’s permission. “The requests must include a completed and signed application by their parents or legal guardian(s), as well as a notarized affidavit form affirming the gender identity of their child,” the Attorney General’s office wrote.

The rule’s goal is to allow transgender or nonbinary individuals to alter the sex marker on their birth certificate to reflect their gender identity.

The passing of the new policy was praised by its advocates, the Dallas Voice reports.

“The actions announced today rid the state of a discriminatory and outdated policy and keeps New York rightly among the states leading the country with policies that respect the lives of transgender people,” said Omar Gonzalez-Pagan, senior attorney for Lambda Legal, calling the announcement a “victory.”

“It shouldn’t take a minor and his family suing the state to get their rights recognized, but with this announcement, New York state eliminates an outdated and unjust…

Ravi Zacharias Reveals He Has Malignant Tumor: ‘We Are Trusting the Lord’

Ravi Zacharias Reveals He Has Malignant Tumor: ‘We Are Trusting the Lord’

Apologist and author Ravi Zacharias revealed Thursday he has a rare form of malignant cancer at the end of his spine and is “trusting the Lord” in the midst of pain and trial.

The cancer, he wrote, was discovered during back surgery three weeks ago.

“The surgery was considered a success, and the surgeon felt it was a strong reconstruction,” Zacharias wrote in a message posted on his ministry’s website. “However, since the surgery, I have faced very severe pain, so intense in the night, especially, that I have been unable to sleep.

“While we have assumed this pain was a natural consequence of the surgery, we have learned in the past week that a biopsy taken during the procedure revealed that I have a malignant tumor on my sacrum – a very rare cancer called Sarcoma.”

The sacrum is the triangular bone at the base of the spine.

“[W]e now know this is the cause of my extreme pain,” he wrote. “In the past few days, we have been meeting with specialists to determine the next course of action. They will wait until I am fully healed from the back surgery, and in 4-5 weeks, will begin treatment to shrink the tumor.”

Catholics Rail Against “Christ in Quarantine” Church Closures in Rome

VATICAN CITY, March 13 (Reuters) – Catholics criticised a cardinal’s order to close churches in Rome on Friday to help contain the spread of coronavirus and Pope Francis cautioned against “drastic measures”.

Some took to social media to rail against the move by Cardinal Angelo De Donatis, accusing him of caving in to the government. One said the move had put “Christ in quarantine”.

Catholic bishops around the world were deciding how to deal with the pandemic in their own dioceses and what guidance they should give to the 1.3 billion-member Church in places from Little Rock to Lyon.

“Drastic measures are not always good,” the pope said in improvised remarks at the start of his morning Mass, which has been streamed on the internet and televised live without outside participants in order to limit gatherings of people.

Francis prayed that God give pastors “the strength and even the capacity to choose the best means to help” those suffering from the pandemic “so that they can provide measures that do not leave the holy faithful people of God alone”.

On Thursday, De Donatis, the pope’s vicar for the Rome archdiocese, ordered the more than 900 Catholic churches under his jurisdiction closed until April 3.

Previously, only Masses had been cancelled because of the coronavirus outbreak. Individual bishops can decide whether to keep their churches open or closed and many are open in parts of Italy.

The pope is bishop of Rome and the cardinal is his administrative vicar. It was not clear if De Donatis had sought the pope’s approval for the move.

The Italian government on Wednesday closed virtually every commercial activity in the country apart from pharmacies, food shops and other stores selling essential goods and services.

Customers must enter a few at a time, keep a safe distance from each other and wear surgical masks in some cases.

Critics say being allowed to pray in a church, albeit with precautions similar to those imposed on stores, should be seen as an essential service.

“My heart is in pieces,” Father Maurizio Mirilli, a pastor of a Rome parish said on Twitter. “I have to close everything, even the church … I feel like a father whose children have been snatched from him.”

“Churches closed in the capital of Christianity is a wound that will be hard for us to forget,” tweeted Gaetano Strano. “The Church is independent from the state and was not obliged to adhere to government norms.” (Reporting By Philip Pullella; Editing by Janet Lawrence)

Good Times Star Ja’Net Dubois’ Death Certificate ‘Lists Blues Brothers Star Cab Calloway as Her Secret Biological Father’

Ja’net Dubois’ death certificate claims that her biological father was Blues Brothers star Cab Calloway, rather than Gordon Dubois.

The singer passed away unexpectedly in her sleep last month, and the document, which was obtained by TMZ earlier this week, had Cab listed as the Good Times star’s secret parent.

It also said on the document, which was released by L.A. County, that she was known as ‘Jeannette T. Calloway-DuBois’, though this is disputed online.

Ja’Net’s father is listed as Gordon in her online biographies, while Lillian Goudey is named as her mother both in the document and on the internet.

TMZ went on to claim that Ja’Net’s daughter Rani said that Gordon was Lillian’s husband and said he was ‘instrumental’ in raising the singer.

Cab was the American bandleader and singer for The Cotton Club, a world famous jazz club in Harlem, where some of the biggest names in music performed.

Tom Hanks reminds us, ‘There is no crying in baseball’: The healing power of optimism

Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, are being treated in Australia for COVID-19. On Thursday, they shared a social media post with a picture of themselves and an update:

“Hello folks. Rita Wilson and I want to thank everyone
here Down Under who are taking such good care of us. We have Covid-19 and are
in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else. There are those for whom it
could lead to a very serious illness. We are taking it one-day-at-a-time. There
are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts
and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?”

Then the message closes: “Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball. Hanx.”

Tom Hanks’ optimistic spirit is not surprising to anyone who
has followed his career. But such a positive attitude is also vital to his
health—and to ours.

Optimism has been linked to positive outcomes for coronary
artery bypass surgery patients and those with hypertension. It has also been
shown to lessen the development of heart disease. In one study, optimistic
volunteers were less likely to develop viral symptoms than their less positive
peers.

Remarkably, a US study found that the most pessimistic individuals had a 42 percent higher death rate than the most optimistic. A study in Holland similarly found that those who demonstrated dispositional optimism showed a 45 percent lower risk of death.

The healing power of optimism

How can we develop and strengthen an optimistic spirit?

One: Seek to be positive.

As Joshua was preparing to lead the people of Israel into
the Promised Land, the Lord said to him, “Be strong and courageous. Do not
be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is
with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).

We cannot always choose our circumstances, but we can choose
how we respond to them.

Two: Base your optimism on the power of God.

One of the most positive people I have…
